Reason: In essence, IPs "demanding" that Wikipedia not write about a certain candidate as-is according to NPOV, claiming without reliable sources that another fits the bill (and that it's "biased", as expected). 2601AC47 (talk) 21:12, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Likely collateral damage as one or several users who are making improvements would be affected by the requested protection. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 00:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I don't know what an "unauthorized group" is here. Also, you could have warned them or, better yet, left them a note. Also, you could have explained your edit in an edit summary--all this, plus the complaint, is actually disruptive. Drmies (talk) 02:51, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 13:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The history of protection of this page warrants one year semi-protection to mitigate some of the issues that have occurred recently and the inability of PC to reasonably deal with the cadence of problematic edits. However, by my review, the edits introduced by autoconfirmed editors -- largely not rising to the level of BLP violations -- are of a different character than those made by the IP editors and the non-autoconfirmed editors and exist on the precipice of what could be characterized as a content dispute. Before EC is applied, there needs to be some evidence of discussion failing. However, there is no discussion on the article's Talk page and, insofar as I can tell, no discussion on the individual Talk pages of the editors in question. Chetsford (talk) 20:05, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Getting vandalized by IPs due to recent news events. Since I created the article years ago and have it on my watchlist, I'm recusing myself as involved, but if I were seeing this edit history for the first time I'd be very strongly considering some semi-protection Daniel Case (talk) 18:46, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 24 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. As of the timestamp, by my count, there have been seven recent edits to the article, two of which were obvious cases of vandalism by IP editors, two were reverts of said vandalism, one was a zero byte copyedit, and two -- by registered editors -- added content that's probably WP:UNDUE and poorly sourced, but can be addressed through the normal process of discussion (however, the last attempt at discussion on the Talk page occurred two years ago). That said, I have no doubt that, due to recent events, PC protection will not be sufficient and will need to be adjusted to something more substantial. I'll plan to watchlist the article as well. Chetsford (talk) 19:44, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: No reason for this when the parent template isn't even protected. Gonnym (talk) 08:59, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • The reason you protect a redirect is not the same as the reasons you would protect the target. The target, Template:Hebrew audio, IS protected, btw, just at a lower level (semi). This makes sense as few people watch redirects, so the possibility of undetected vandalism is much higher for that redirect than the template. I'm not inclined to unprotect as I don't see how the protection is actually stopping anyone from making a legitimate edit, but will leave open for another admin to review. Dennis Brown - 09:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not unprotected – Concur with Dennis Brown. Favonian (talk) 10:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Page has been blanked several times, or sourced information has altered, with editors noting a desire to keep the content secret. However, this is content that is already extensively reported in published and online sources. This page has existed and hosted essentially the same chart since 2005, but the first attempt to remove it was not until 2021. Maltice (talk) 20:04, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 60 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I'm not sure 60 days will solve the underlying issue, but it's the best I can do given the short history of page protection. If this is insufficient, it can be re-reported and protection of longer duration applied. Chetsford (talk) 20:14, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – I don't what happened, but there are multiple IPs vandalizing this page to insult this guy. I believe he won some competition, and people didn't like that. Gaismagorm (talk) 20:44, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. While the article does appear to undergo spates of vandalism, in the last 30 days there has only been one instance of vandalism, by an IP editor which was almost immediately reverted. Our WP:NO-PREEMPT policy requires protection be applied for the shortest period possible to stop the disruption. There is no period of protection short enough to arrest a single instance of vandalism. However, if a pattern emerges, please re-report. Chetsford (talk) 19:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There have only been two recent problematic edits to this article, one by a probable WP:COI editor and the second almost certainly by the same editor forgetting to login to their account. Checking to see if protection is necessary. M.Bitton, is there substance behind your revert beyond Per WP:ARBECR? Because I don't like that being the sole reason mentioned. That is, but by itself, it comes across as one of my pet peeves, as seen in the essay Wikipedia:Don't revert due solely to "no consensus" (i.e. non-substantive reasoning)... Otherwise, beyond this one single revert by you today, the page has not seen any meaningful edits, really, in many months. El_C 23:42, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@El C: the notice at the top of the article (when trying to edit it) says "You must be logged-in to an extended confirmed account" and my understanding of ARBECR is that non-EC editors are limited to making edit requests (related to articles within the topic area). Also, I did leave an appropriate welcome message on their talk page. That being said, I have no problem self-reverting (if you think that the revert was unnecessary in this instance). M.Bitton (talk) 00:01, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I have no opinion or objection to either the addition or its removal (I'm not allowed to). But you are allowed to object on various grounds, like WP:DUE, WP:RS, etc., so I'm just wondering if such reasoning exist in this instance. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to decline (inclined to decline?) as WP:PREEMPTIVE. Yes, I realize the instructions (for WP:ECR ≈ preemptive) is a bit contradictory, and that mileage does vary among admins for that. Regardless of what your answer is, I don't think you did anything wrong. I'm just trying to clarify if there's content grounds behind your revert, because if so, yes-protection; if not, likely not at this time. El_C 00:49, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@El C: there is no content grounds behind the revert (for what it's worth, I think it's a good edit), I only reverted to enforce the restriction. M.Bitton (talk) 01:42, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Hello, I would like to request Extended confirmed protection for the The Bloodline article. There are too many accounts making too many changes against Wikipedia's policy and guidelines such as No original research, Fancruft as well as straight up vandalism by editors with no regard or little knowledge of how Wikipedia works and due to the popularity of the article there is simply no way to control it and it is slowly descending into chaos. This is why I request this and I hope this issue can be fixed. Lemonademan22 (talk) 14:07, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Maybe you can show us some diffs where autoconfirmed editors have been doing these things? Because from the last month's history it looks like the current protection is working. Daniel Case (talk) 00:10, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. At the start of the month and towards the end autoconfirmed editors (usually with no user page) have been adding unsourced material, changing paragraph subheadings, adding bare references and messing the article up. Today I had to change about a dozen things back to normal. The current protection, in my opinion, doesn't work and isn't sufficient if I have to go ahead and revert everything they do constantly. Reason: There is a consistent pattern of POV pushing and a biased agenda from this IP. IP user claims that Crimean Tatars are descended from Anglo-Saxon settlers during the Byzantine era. He is using a non-reliable news source about Anglo-Saxon settlers, but the source does not mention any connection between Crimean Tatars and Anglo-Saxons. In fact, last citation does not even contain word "Crimean Tatar" It'd be great if an advanced editor or administrator can shorten the Tatarization section of the article.

He also doing a similar thing to Crimean Goths. I attempted to discuss this issue with the editor on the talk page of Crimean Tatars 9 months ago, but they have continued to engage in edit warring in different time periods. This is urgent. 174.30.12.241 is clearly watching the page and putting false information as propaganda attempting to influence the vote that’s happening tomorrow. The text of the amendment is in the article and you can clearly see that what they’ve repeatedly put in the heading (that many users other than myself have had to remove multiple times) is a lie. Please help. 2600:100A:B1E5:AEBB:24EE:D181:45CF:41D3 (talk) 06:01, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. I count about 10 edits in the last week. --Chris | Crazycomputers (talk) 06:04, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That same editor (as it is clearly the same person) has reinstated that same lie within a day of it being removed by three separate editors on three separate occasions. They reinstated it after I removed it *less than half an hour later*, and they will certainly put it up again as soon as they wake up today. And we are talking about misinformation with the potential for extreme consequences here. *Please* get some experienced editors to watch the page in anticipation of that so they can quickly revert it, at least. 2600:100A:B1E5:AEBB:24EE:D181:45CF:41D3 (talk) 07:12, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you’ll see variations of the same thing being done many, many more times on that article in the short time it’s existed if you look back just a little further. There is not nearly enough attention being paid to it by good editors. 2600:100A:B1E5:AEBB:24EE:D181:45CF:41D3 (talk) 07:15, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please, can another editor who doesn’t work for “Campus Crusade for Christ” look at how vulnerable this page is to extremely dangerous misinformation and do something about it? 2600:100A:B1E5:AEBB:24EE:D181:45CF:41D3 (talk) 07:27, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

*ahem* I have never been employed by that organization, and my conclusion has absolutely nothing to do with the content of the article nor my personal politics or religion. I find the accusation a bit rude. --Chris | Crazycomputers (talk) 07:53, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Callanecc, yes, they have been warned (although I'm not sure of the use, given they are hopping round IPs). They ignored it and the requests to use the talk page and continued to edit war. How else are we to deal with IP-hopping editor who edit wars and ignores any form of discussion? They haven't vandalised the article, so AIV is entirely the wrong venue, and the peanut gallery at ANI is just a waste of time. Under subtitle: Distrubution and habitat. ADD When it comes to their natural habitat, red pandas have a smaller home range of 3.4 km^2, while the giant pandas have a home range of 6.3 km^2. That's about a 30% difference in their ranges. Both species cover 481 meters of daily distances and frequently visit the same bamboo patches, but their activity patterns are different. Red pandas are nocturnal and maintain a consistent activity level throughout the year, but giant pandas have irregular intervals of activity between day and night varying by season. Here a few diffs that were previously asked for that can show my point further [4] [5] (Most of this had to be reverted by another editor) [6] These are just a couple of examples but these editors edit the page against the template set out and provide unecessary details and unverified claims and it needs to be put right otherwise it's just going to continue, and just for referencing purposes [7] this is how it should be set out and this was before most of the disruptive editing occured. If you need any more diffs to prove what I'm saying is true or if there is any need for further proof, please let me know in the reply. Lemonademan22 (talk) 21:52, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
