Eyal Erez

[edit]

"In August 2014 Eyal Erez called the Israeli decisions makers to appoint General Galant to the next IDF Chief of General Staff, after the term of LTG Benny Gantz[3]" This sentence is not supported by the evidence cited.Johannes (talk) 11:52, 17 March 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Lengthened detail section

[edit]

-not just for Yoav Galant, all Israeli ministers

suggesting that the expanded detail section used for ministers or secretaries in all other governments, and for Israeli ministers in the Hebrew language Wikipedia, should also be used for Israeli politicians in the English wiki. People come to wiki for information, and that information that’s presented initially is very relevant, even if it’s a bit long due to the Israeli political system. There doesn’t seem to be another place on the page to present this information clearly Helpfulguy101 (talk) 22:35, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As i mentioned on the User talk page, i think we should keep the subterm template. I'm pretty sure it was even exclusively made for Israeli elections. Regardless of whether that's true, israeli politics tend to change very rapidly. Tzachi Hanegbi served in tons of ministerial portfolios, as did Avigdor Liberman, or Aryeh Deri. Orly Levy was in many political parties, and politicians like Meir Porush served in many different parliamentary spells. The information tends to be relevant, it includes cabinet positions, parliamentary positions and party affiliation. By using the subterm template, we condense the information to be more readable, since even if we could use the normal template for all of it (which we likely can't), we'd still be creating an unreadable clutter. I'd love to hear more opinions though. Totalstgamer (talk) 22:39, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Another option is to put another drop-down section by “political career” with all the info, and have condensed info in the initial section Helpfulguy101 (talk) 22:46, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm cool with this, i believe its done on Shimon Peres. Regardless, the infobox should keep the subterm template. Totalstgamer (talk) 22:47, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Or a second tab right below the first with ministerial positions expanded Helpfulguy101 (talk) 23:22, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think at least the current term should be in long form, with a section for previous positions in short form Helpfulguy101 (talk) 01:49, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli ministers and MKs always have their ministerial offices and Knesset membership listed using the suboffice/subterm parameters. The only exceptions are prime ministers and presidents, who have those offices listed in the main format. Once you start adding in predessors, successors, Prime Minister at the time, etc etc, the infobox gets far too large. That sort of information also usually fails MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE (which states that the infobox should be a summary of the article and not introduce new information – predecessors and successors are rarely (if ever) mentioned in such articles. However, there is usually a template footer with all ministers listed in order that readers can get the information from if they want. Number 57 22:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Then most English language minister/secretary pages should be edited to stop this failure of infoboxpurpose Helpfulguy101 (talk) 23:52, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Most English language politician pages are about people with a handful of party affiliations or positions, they're also none of our buisness. Totalstgamer (talk) 06:41, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right, but apparently no one actually cares that it’s a violation of the rules. That’s the point. Helpfulguy101 (talk) 15:00, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Its not a violation of the rules though, because firstly, wikipedia doesn't have that many rules, mostly guidelines, and its up to editors working on a certain article or set of articles to reach a consensus. And secondly, because in most cases, politicians in other countries hold fewer positions and fewer party affiliations, which means there's no need to condense information. I frankly don't get your point. Totalstgamer (talk) 15:06, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think anyone was talking about party affiliation. In your first section you mentioned it would fail the guidelines. Now that that’s been cleared up, I think the best way to do it would be to put a second info box right below the first with ministerial positions. Helpfulguy101 (talk) 15:10, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need a second infobox. There are a batch of templates at the bottom of the article which show who held the ministerial offices before and after Galant. Number 57 16:21, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t see such a template on any of the pages, and regardless, that’s basic info that should be front and center Helpfulguy101 (talk) 18:45, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They are at the bottom of the article, starting with Current members of the Knesset and ending with Military Secretaries to the Prime Minister. And it's not basic info. Basic info is the person's own positions, their DOB etc. Number 57 18:53, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, British MP’s seem to have the same problem, with many secretariats and such, yet they do have full detail sections in the infobox Helpfulguy101 (talk) 22:22, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
British MPs tend to stick to their party. They also don't hold nearly as many cabinet positions. For comparison, Tzachi Hanegbi, who was until recently one of the most senior MKs, served in 12 different cabinet roles and 3 different parliamentary spells. Peter Bottomley, the most Senior member of the House of Commons, has had two spells and four cabinet positions. Totalstgamer (talk) 22:27, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
certainly for current office, they should have full sections with start dates and predecessors etc Helpfulguy101 (talk) 17:05, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gallant or Galant

[edit]

most other languages spell him Galant. --Kuhni74 (talk) 18:32, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"We will eliminate everything"

[edit]

This is a mistranslation and misinformation. The actual quote is Gaza will not return to what it was before. There will be no Hamas. We will eliminate it all. [1] --Hob Gadling (talk) 11:30, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

human animals

[edit]

using the phrase "human animals" in reference to Palestinians He actually said "We are fighting human animals". Again, someone is confusing Palestinians and Hamas. --Hob Gadling (talk) 10:15, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
