Sources
[edit]- Like most other geography articles, most sources are state owned, so those should be fine. There are some other sources, like The Hindu and The Economist, that are marked reliable by WP:RSP. The only source I see that raises concerns is the Times of India. Is that reliable? 750h+ 11:23, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- @750h+ The Times of India is the one of the oldest and highest circulating English daily in India. Having said that, it does not mean reliability as they have advertorials, hence the WP:MREL as per WP:RSP. It might be questionable when addressing contentious subjects, but as a general news source, it is reliable and have been used in hundreds of GAs related to India. As per WP:MREL, if there are instances where you feel that additional citations are required, I can address that. Thanks! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 04:12, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Okay I’m happy with the response. Spotchecks coming soon. 750h+ 05:36, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

- FN 22 and 24 support: "The region came under the influence of Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century CE."
- FN 95 and 96 support: "The Environmentalist Foundation of India is a volunteering group working towards wildlife conservation and habitat restoration."
- FN 185 and 186 support: "The presence of the weather radar at the Chennai Port prohibited the construction of buildings taller than 60 m around a radius of 10 km till 2009."
- FN 257 and 258 support: "The city's water supply and sewage treatment are managed by the Chennai MetroWater Supply and Sewage Board. Water is drawn from Red Hills Lake and Chembarambakkam Lake, the major water reservoirs in the city and treated at water treatment plants located at Kilpauk, Puzhal, Chembarambakkam and supplied to the city through 27 water distribution stations."
- FN 347 and 348 support: "Indian Navy has a major base at Chennai."
- FN 424 support: "The Foreigners Regional Registration Office is in charge of immigration and registration activities in the city."
@Magentic Manifestations: can you archive some of the links via IABot? Make sure to tap "Add archives to all non-dead references (Optional)". 750h+ 09:07, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

plagiarism
[edit]Earwig detects a 95% similarity to CDN, but with the highlighted text being there (far) before 2018, it's likely them copying off here. Skipping that, the next largest is an 18.7% similarity to a "hubert.herald.nl" source, which is unlikely. Plagiarism check pass . 750h+ 09:20, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
comprehensive
[edit]- 7,665 word article. Seems to have everything needed for a geography article; comparing it to Canberra, it seems fine, and after my prose check, i found it focused and a fine read, so this is a pass. 750h+ 09:23, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
image review and MOS review
[edit]- All images are appropriately licensed. Most are 3.0, whilst there are some 4.0 and 2.0 with some Public Domain and a "Government of India" license. I've never heard of the latter, but I don't see anything wrong with it as it is government owned. All images have relevant captions. Magnificent Manifestations, can you ensure all images have WP:ALT text? 750h+ 09:31, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Let's see the MOS. 7.6K word article, which has a four-paragraph lead, fine. Usual templates (Use [..] English, Use [..] dates, short description, and infobox.). Layout is good too. WP:WTW has been addressed in the #Prose. Lists, which are mostly towards the end, look good too. Pass. 750h+ 09:36, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

I request other editors to follow official govt data rather than 3rd party unreliable websites for GDP
[edit]Real GDP = GDP at constant ( 2011 )prices
Nominal GDP = GDP at current prices
GDP PPP = GDP based on purchasing power parity of currency
Example : 1 USD = 84 INR ( Currency exchange )
1 USD = 20.29 INR ( 2024 Purchasing power parity )
Source : https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/PPPEX@WEO/OEMDC
Hence . 1 lakh crore INR = ( (1 lakh crore ÷ PPP exchange rate ( 20.29 ) ) = $ 49.29 Billion Jagadeesh93 (talk) 09:37, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- C40 data is reliable per WP:RS all major Indian cities are using it. Also you cannot use these conversion rates because it is for india as a whole not a particular city. Also I severely doubt the credibility of the sources you used for the nominal GDP as they are tagged as citing a blog which not RS. Vijaydanny (talk) 19:48, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- i will attach State Finance department website as an extension. You can download the document.
- Conversion rates doesn't Apply for individual cities . It is applicable for whole country just like 1 USD = 84 INR is same all over India.Body Balram (talk) 19:56, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- I can provide multiple instances for which the conversion rate differs from city to city and state to state and more importantly data on Wikipedia must be verifiable which this this imf converter is clearly not. Vijaydanny (talk) 20:10, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- you are confusing purchasing power parity of a country with cost of living of a city . Body Balram (talk) 20:12, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
