Likely a script driven spam bot that have inserted a page with product purchasing link to a $39.00 book into a swath of Scouting related articles and talk pages in rapid succession. These two new accounts are clearly the same person, creating sandboxes (1) (2) in identical styles. Both lead to different sites, but clearly by the same original author/company. There's nothing on them that would be useful for us to link to.

But… since these are two different sites, they don't strictly come under our rules for blacklisting – ie, multiple links to the same site. So I could be in entirely the wrong place, and if so, please suggest a board that might be interested in this (if there is one!). It's probably not worth an SSI since they're just sandboxes and not actually mainspace spamming. 81.2.123.64 (talk) 14:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

@Ohnoitsjamie: (or others watching this page) I suspect reporting these here is just me clogging up a working page. If so, I'd propose moving this entire section to somewhere else. But my knowledge of these outer ends of the 'pedia is shaky: should I move it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam or to Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard or to somewhere in the Wikipedia:Village pump... or even leave it here if it's not actually in the way?

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam would be a good place. I think there may be other participants here who are able to find "nests" of related sites on the same server; if someone is able to do that, we could blacklist them en-masse, but I'm not inclined to blacklist domains based on a single instance of isolated spamming. Just noting that I saw this on the blacklist talk page and I've seen it here. When I get chance, I'll run some checks on the accounts and see if I can flush out any more and possibly block any IPs that are being abused, especially if they're proxies.
