Nasejje Jalia also known professonially as Zabuli is a Ugandan gospel musician born on February 29, 1992 in Uganda a dance hall-ragga gospel artist and a professional teacher raised from Entebbe . She began her music career in 2013 and has since released several hit songs. She has won several awards internationally and locally including the Collaboration of the year at Viga awards 2016[1] and Best contemporary song Viga Awards 2023 .
Early life
[edit]Zabuli was born to a family of 5 children she is number three,[2] with three sisters and one brother to Cherotich Agnes[3] by a Christian mother and a Moslem father was just a starting point for a chaotic childhood because family was always fighting over the children over which religion to practice that it found her looking for her own way around life independently which resulted into a very destructive journey for her[4][5]
Turning Point
[edit]Zabuli's life took a significant turn at the age of 19. An unintended pregnancy with a Muslim man with whom she did not foresee a future presented a significant challenge. The memory of her mother's recent widowhood and her warnings about the importance of family and responsibility weighed heavily on her. Zabuli felt a profound sense of guilt and selfishness, perceiving the pregnancy as a betrayal of both her mother's expectations and her own aspirations.[6]
Unwilling to face the perceived consequences of motherhood, Zabuli attempted to self-induce an abortion. When this failed, she sought medical assistance. However, during the medical procedure, Zabuli experienced a severe medical complication, leading to a near-death experience.[7]
Career
[edit]Zabuli began her music career in 2013 with the release of his debut single “Take the wheel” which became an instant hit. She has since released several other songs including “Dede”, “Kaidali”, “Mwana Wa Muloodi”, and “Kyeeya” among others. Zabuli has collaborated with several other artists including Esther Hadasha, Philla, and Coopy Bly among others.
