District 68
[edit]Initially, former state representative Tim Sneller was the only candidate running in the Democratic primary election in the 68th district. He died on July 11.[16] Matt Schlinker of Goodrich announced his candidacy on July 28.[17] The Michigan Democratic State Central Committee attempted to replace Sneller on the August primary ballot with Schlinker, however Judge James Robert Redford ruled that they attempted to do so too late, as early voting had already began. Schlinker began a write-in campaign two weeks before the election.[18] While Sneller won over 6,000 votes, Schlinker ultimately received the number of votes necessary to win the primary.[16][19]
Incumbent representative David Martin won the Republican primary unopposed.[20]
