Question
[edit]Hi Chris, I uploaded This image and for some reason the color rendering at either full-screen or full-size is fine, as should be. However at thumbnail sizes on Commons (created by Commons) and on en-Wiki, the colors are more saturated, more blue-ish. For example compare this 1024x710 thumbnail with this full-screen version. Is that just me and my display, or have you seen this type of thing before? Bammesk (talk) 19:28, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- You're right, Bammesk. :/ I can't say I've encountered that before. Is it perhaps from an embedded colour profile? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:36, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Actually, I seem to remember having some weird issues with Highsmith's imagery back in 2012/2013. There may be embedded profiles not playing nice with media wiki. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:43, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- So I've opened up both examples in Photoshop. The full-resolution image has "Untagged RGB (8 bit)" as its profile, whereas the reduced resolution image has "Adobe RGB (1998) (8 bit)" as its profile. I'll try comparing some other images, see if that may explain it. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:46, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes Bammesk, it was the colour profile. I've embedded Adobe RGB (1998) (8 bit) and reuploaded. Looks like the thumbnail and full size are consistent now. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:57, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I looked into it after your first reply. I was about to do somewhat equivalent of what you did in GIMP. I use GIMP and it is not a user friendly software when it comes to color space and meta data. I was about to delete the XMP data, which would remove the color profile bit, which would have made the file de facto sRGB. And then I would have done an upload. I keep that in mind next time. You beat me to it, your fix worked, so no need to do anything on my end. Thank you. Bammesk (talk) 20:21, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

AFDs
[edit]Hello, Crisco 1492,
I was looking at some AFDs that were filed and closed tonight (like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Xana (drag queen)) and saw your comments. I've closed hundreds, maybe thousands, of AFDs and I'm not familiar with a "soft close". Can you explain it to me or point to it on a policy page? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:37, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Liz, it was intended as an allusion to WP:NOQUORUM (or "soft delete") and meant to indicate that, should there be any disagreement with the close, I would not object to anyone reverting it. This was meant to facilitate continued discussion should it be deemed necessary. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 13:19, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
