apology
Look, I'm sorry for the waffling. I just can't stand unsourced material being added in a dyk style. If you can get Tony or Sko to say it's ok, then I'll back off.
I'd really encourage you to buff up the FP process so that, in anticipation of being in Featured content, and image will already have the pertinent info. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:03, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Where's the citation? I don't see it. I don't think it's true today, maybe for a short time years ago, but not in today's world. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:20, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- You added it to Whistler's Mother? I really don't think it's true. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:26, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, if you think so highly of it, why don't you replace that awful toad with it? The green of the toad next to the green of the computer board is bibulous. Ugh! MathewTownsend (talk) 00:44, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- I put the flower there because it makes a nice "splash" and readers respond to color. It would've been too much Whistler to have him top and bottom. Plus I don't like that other picture - and it's certainly not iconic. I think the opening image should be recognizable and not a ???? (what the?) reaction. But that green (awful) toad, and I have nothing against toads, with the green of the circuit board, is awful. Whistler's Mother would be soothing. Leave the reader soothed. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:54, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- ps I wrote an article Musée Bolo to link to the caption of the circuit board ! MathewTownsend (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

oh, please, please, please don't put the fireworks image in. It dilutes the impact of Whistlers Mother, and the two pictures aren't related, as the two were last week. I think it ruins it to have them both at the bottom. MathewTownsend (talk) 01:09, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the peer review
You gave me a bit to work on there. Most of it was fixable, only 2 or 3 things the sources were silent on. Good find with the images, at least I won't have to deal with fair use on this article... Oh, and having a TFA did turn out to be a real pain--it attracts a lot of people who are unaware of the guidelines we take for granted. Mark Arsten (talk) 18:40, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've heard. I tried to nominate "Amazing Grace" for TFA a while back but the writer was... well, displeased. So it didn't happen. Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, added in some selected works, I picked the first few from Google scholar and then listed the ones I'd already mentioned in the article. So, overall, what are your thoughts on the article? Mark Arsten (talk) 00:56, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'd support. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:43, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- That's what I like to hear :) I realized the other day that the three articles I'm working on now William S. Sadler, Hiram W. Evans, and William T. Anderson are all about white supremacists. I really hope people don't start to think I'm racist--maybe I should work on the Black Panthers or something to balance things out. BTW, it really sucks how little attention some articles get at FAC. If I were you, I'd start cornering people on their talk pages and demanding reviews at this point. Mark Arsten (talk) 02:08, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Meh, que sera, sera. If you want an African-American or racial minority topic, I can't think of any besides the Black Panthers. Tubman and Robinson are already FAs. Underground Railroad needs work, but... it's definitely a big topic. Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:20, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, on a positive note, I finally transferred William T. Anderson out of my sandbox fully into article space. Now there's just the herculean task of editing it... good thing I like doing that. Mark Arsten (talk) 02:59, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, you've put a ton of work into that. Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:01, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, the strange thing is, I started it because I thought it would be an easy subject to get to featured status. I wonder if someone had spiked my drink that night... Mark Arsten (talk) 03:05, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

blurb length
Hi,
Tony suggested before that the blurbs be shortened and I agree. People like me just skip over them when they are crammed with unfamiliar facts and phrases that mean nothing to 90% of the readers. I think we should just give an over view to encourage those interested to read the article - not put them off by a crammed blurb. We can discuss it with Tony and Sko if you disagree.
I'm staying out of the blurbs re images. Not proofing or anything, as I know you disagree with my view there. Regards, MathewTownsend (talk) 13:09, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but I would consider adding a bit of information that is not in the first paragraph of the lede. Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:12, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I've pursued the article and tried to do that - as long as it's not dense facts/figures but overall statements, and as long it doesn't lengthen the blurbs. I'm really against those blurbs crammed with facts/figures that are not important to the whole - especially specific lengthy specific title, early happenings in a person's life, associations etc. that to 90% of readers are just mumble jumble. We just want to perk up the readers interest in engaging in th whole article. We should be describing why this person/place etc. is worthy of an article, not give the bio of his life with many specific facts. (Same with lists; the reader can read the list if they are interested in the specifics. Just give enough to perk up interest in reader to read the list.) MathewTownsend (talk) 13:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds okay, although a couple highlights for the lists should be included (at the very least to avoid two line blurbs). Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:30, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Pics for up coming Signpost
For featured articles and featured lists, I'm considering these: my mockups so far for this week. What do you think?
Unfortunately, there don't seem to be a good selection of pics this week. Can't have more nudes, nor more Goyas after last week, except Dog I guess. I hate that lizard, the snake is ok, maybe another Whistler (two weeks in a row). Too many paintings of similar styles and eras. Do you think in the future you could spread out your nominations of a specific artist say, over time and provide more variety in style and subject? Get more fantastic building, exquisite landscapes, architectural features, etc.? Just a suggestion. If I knew how to fix a picture up for nomination, I'd look around for more variety. But I don't. MathewTownsend (talk) 16:28, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, for further suggestions we have a nice picture of wheelchair basketball (very underrepresented, and the colours are good). There's a Gamecube too, but that may be bland. A poster and picture of a building are likely to pass as well. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:08, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- I just tried this for effect: Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2012-04-02/Featured_content Feel free to change, as all the contestants aren't in! MathewTownsend (talk) 00:13, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- I saw that snake.Nice! Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:18, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- I love the way it looks you in the eye!
- Going by the noms so far, I'd say three for featured content at this time (6 noms so far but there probably will be more), two for featured list (as they have 5 noms so far) and the rest featured pictures - that's kinda my formula, trying to be fair, but open to modification. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:24, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sound good. I'd probably use The Dog and the Wheelchair basketball one. I like the St. John the Baptise image as well. Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:27, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- well, the selection wasn't very good for me. I had a hard time, and they're not very balanced subject-wise (two of the English coast) - but there wasn't much of a selection. Have fun! MathewTownsend (talk) 22:04, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

- You are on a roll, sir! Khazar2 (talk) 16:04, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, I couldn't resist with a title like that :-D Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:08, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't get this dyk business. This article of yours became a GA on December 18, 2011.[2] and hasn't been expanded since. MathewTownsend (talk) 16:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- April Fool's is different; hooks are gathered over the period of a year. Anal people was created in July. Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:16, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
You said "Kevin brought up a fairly good point for the Yama-Yama Man, so I didn't promote that." What? There was agreement in the thread that quotes addressed the issue, no one disagreed about it. I feel like you decided on your own to go against the consensus of the thread and not promote the article. Green Cardamom (talk) 16:29, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Kevin made one comment, and you replied. Nobody weighed in again after that last comment. Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- You didn't read the whole thread. The quotes were added to the hook by Orlady. I removed them. Kevin said the quotes were needed. I added them back. That's all that happened. There is no disagreement everyone is OK with it, so long as the quotes are in the hook. Green Cardamom (talk) 16:38, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- And nobody tried to build preps either, including yourself. If you feel it should be included, feel free to contact an admin (I am not one, so I cannot put it on the main page) Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have no idea how the process works. I never wanted the thing promoted to April Fools anyway, now it's gotten passed over and too late for it to be added back to the normal DYK. What a mess. Green Cardamom (talk) 16:43, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- I've removed it entirely, but glad to see your own articles were promoted. Green Cardamom (talk) 17:00, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Peter Orno
Would you please put Peter Orno in a queue. If you use Orlady's hook, please correctly place quotes around the pseudonym "Peter Orno". Peter Orno is not a pseudonym, of course. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 10:27, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
