Rollback

[edit]

(Trying this again because one of my scripts broke the template)

I have been reverting vandalism and patrolling recent changes for over a month now. The last time my request was declined, I simply hadn't been patrolling for a month at that point, and @Fastily had no other objections. I have consistently warned all vandals I reverted and reported many to AIV. I believe I'm ready to have rollback now. Also note that I am a pending changes reviewer. I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? It's important to leave a notification for every revert you make (especially when reverting good faith edits). Are you aware of tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which make this extremely easy? -Fastily 23:53, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily Diff by diff:
1. Completely forgot that there is a warning template for NOTFORUM. The last time I used that warning was all the way on Sept 13 [2] which is more than a month ago. Completely skipped my mind.
2. I have no explanation on this one; I probably just forgot.
3. No explanation either.
The earlier failures seem to be one off mistakes I made that happen to be close together, but the revert that happened just today is definitely very unfortunate for me not to warn. The sea of reverts I've made mostly have warnings other than the above, so I don't exactly know how I managed to forget to warn at all. I'll make sure this doesn't happen again. TheWikiToby (talk) 01:10, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. Moving forward, could you please make a promise to leave warnings/notifications for every revert? -Fastily 21:04, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes. I promise a warning/explanation for every revert I perform from now on. TheWikiToby (talk) 21:58, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming,  Done -Fastily 20:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I've been RC patrolling for a month combined and have the needed mainspace edits.

I always warn users when reverting their edits, either with the default warning template or a custom one if the situation is unique.

I think I understand the policies here, as all of my reports to WP:AIV, WP:RPP and WP:UAA have resulted in action.

I would like Rollback because using more advanced tools like Huggle would make my RC patrolling easier.

Thanks for your time! MolecularPilot 08:51, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

 Done -Fastily 20:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

I have been policing many pages and have reverted many vandalism by IPs and disruptive editors and added warnings on talk pages of the users. I have done this for a while now. I have also reported on ANI about vandalism. Rollback rights will make it more easier to help with vandalism and I am ready to accept this role. RangersRus (talk) 16:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done I reviewed your contributions and found little to no recent anti-vandalism work. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 20:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Requesting rollback to assist with reverting vandalism. I was granted this previously on a temporary basis a few years but later took a break and never renewed it. Thanks in advance. -OXYLYPSE (talk) 21:26, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done I see you resumed editing about 10 days ago, after a 4 year hiatus. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'd like to see you spend at least a month re-familiarizing yourself with Wikipedia before assigning you advanced permissions. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits (I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which makes this extremely easy). Thanks, Fastily 22:44, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Fair enough. I have been occasionally editing as a dynamic IP user during this time from both home and work, but I can appreciate the concern nonetheless. Life happens!
Would you mind flagging when I have not warned other editors of reverts? I try to make a habit of this and often use the Twinkle 'editing test' template first as it's a bit nicer at assuming good faith than the others.

1, 2, 3 -Fastily 00:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. I actually self reverted number 1 because it was Nazi Germany in that period. Number 2 about the subject being a builder was being constantly added by different IPs, but point taken. I won't take up any more of your time. OXYLYPSE (talk) 06:58, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

With reference to my previous request for rollback rights submitted on 24 September 2024link and the advice received, I would like to re-submit my request. I have actively patrolled recent changes, reverting unconstructive or disruptive edits, addressing vandalism, and consistently warning editors. In more severe cases, I have reported offenders to administrators for further action and also requested for page protection. I have primarily used Twinkle for these tasks, alongside performing manual reverts. I believe that rollback rights would be a valuable addition to the tools currently available to me and going forward. Thank you. QEnigma (talk) 00:54, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

[edit]

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights: I am an Wikipedian for more than three years and part of various wikiprojects I need permission to expand my works on Wikipedia and also to observe Wikipedia articles. Cactinites (talk) 15:28, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

To review pending changes on Wikipedia Gonzafer001 (talk) 09:16, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

I’d like to request pending changes reviewer rights. I have been active on Wikipedia for a while, focusing on improving content quality and helping maintain the integrity of articles. I am not new to reviewing edits, as I use edit-request tools to answer several requests by unregistered/registered editors that wish to see changes on several articles. I have read all policies on how to handle this right and know the responsibly that comes alongside it. 𝚈𝚘𝚟𝚝 (𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚟𝚝) 16:12, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

I like helping out and reviewing recent changes, and I would like to be able to contribute further by receiving pending changes reviewer rights. Imconfused3456talk 01:31, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

I would like to help contribute to the Wikipedia community and help reviews happen quicker. I am passionate about unbiased true information being presented and I think this would be a good privilege for me. BittersweetParadox (talk) 07:41, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

I have been reviewing changes on many pages made by editors and IPs and helped by improving and protecting pages from vandalism. My editing history will prove that I am very capable and can be great help. I did set aside time and read and understood guidelines for vandalism, Reviewing pending changes and Protection policies before submitting this request. RangersRus (talk) 14:53, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I often review recent changes and find myself looking at a pending revision that is clearly acceptable per policies but am unable to accept it. It would be nice to contribute in this way, in addition to my existing activity reverting vandalism and other problematic edits. -OXYLYPSE (talk) 21:36, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done for the same reason I declined OP's request for rollback. -Fastily 22:44, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi!

I've been patrolling recent changes and reverting vandalism for a while, as well as contributing to AfD, CSD and creating some of my own articles.

I'd like Pending Changes Reviewer because sometimes when I'm patrolling I see pending changes to a page that are constructive and I'd like to accept them.

Autopatrolled

[edit]

They created 141 articles, with only one being deleted under G6, which is not a big issue. Their creations include BLPs and species-related articles, and no significant issues were found during checks. Two of their creations were taken to AfD but were later kept. I hope they can be added to AP. It’s up to you. Thanks. GrabUp - Talk 13:52, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

I've been reviewing this user's contributions at AfC and I have consistently seen clean articles, and they have created 68, which is well above minimum standard. It is my understanding that AfCs approved by non-autopatrolled users (like me) go to the NPP queue, and because NPP is facing a huge backlog, I think that giving autopatrol would be beneficial for the backlog. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 02:17, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

New page reviewer

[edit]

I'd like to request NPR rights. I have prior experience with AfC and NPP, so I'm familiar with the process of reviewing new pages. I'm confident in my understanding of notability guidelines and can easily spot paid/COI editing, as well as unreliable and branded sources. I am also familiar with WP:DP, WP:NOBITING, and CSD

I understand the importance of careful, fair reviews and will do my best to uphold the quality of content on Wikipedia. Thank you! TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 06:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

@Rosguill: My account was compromised and i have never been engaged in paid editing. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 15:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
You are expected to be upfront about prior permissions changes and to address these concerns in your initial request. This is now the third time (2, 1) that you have requested permissions since then without addressing this concern in your initial request. That you did not do so does not inspire confidence. You also have not clarified what steps you have taken to prevent your account from being compromised again, which is a necessity before you are conferred any advanced permissions. signed, Rosguill talk 15:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the chance to explain. I realize I should have addressed this in my initial request, and I'm sorry for not doing so. When my account was compromised, it resulted in my permissions being revoked. I want to be clear that I've never been involved in paid editing.
Since then, I've taken steps to secure my account, including enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on my registered email, setting a strong password for my account, occasionally changing my password, and regularly checking my account activity to prevent any future issues. I understand how serious this is and am fully committed to keeping my account secure going forward.
I'm really keen to contribute positively to Wikipedia again and will approach NPP and other responsibilities with full accountability. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 15:46, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Can you please also give a timeline of what happened? How many weeks was your account compromised for? What date was it compromised and what date was the compromise stopped? How bad was the damage when it was compromised? What kind of edits did the attackers make? Any idea how it was compromised in the first place? I understand this is a lot of detail to ask, but explaining exactly what happened should be helpful here. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:43, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Due to my health concerns, as noted here, I was inactive on the site. I gradually recovered, as mentioned here. However, in June 2022, I experienced health issues again, and this time, I didn’t inform the administrators because I had completely stopped using digital devices. As a result of this inactivity, I wasn't able to monitor my account or review my activity on the site. During this time, when my account was compromised, it was used solely for promotional editing by the attacker. Around 15 days before my account was blocked, I noticed I couldn't reset my password because the attacker had hijacked my email and removed it from my Wikipedia account. I recovered my email soon after realizing it was hacked. Upon reviewing my account activity, I found it in a dire state, used solely for promotional editing, which not only damaged Wikipedia but also hurt the trust I had built over several years of hardwork. I also noticed that the account had been inactive after the attacker created 4 articles between May 2023 and July 2023. I was exploring possible ways to regain access. Since I had previously contacted Materialscientist, I emailed them again (as noted here) in August 2023 to confirm my identity and that my email was the original registered email. However, it seemed they were not available. I then contacted the steward team, who directed me to email ca(at)wikimedia.org. After a series of emails, they video-called me, asked some questions, and eventually restored my account on 16 September 2024. Compromise stopped since i regained access in September 2024 and i took necessary steps to secure my Wikipedia account as well as email address. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 04:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for those details. Sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you're doing a lot better now.
1) So your account was compromised from June 2022 to September 2023 (1 year 3 months)? When we take a look at those edits we should assume those are the attacker?
2) Any idea how your account got compromised? They somehow broke into your email and from there used that to password reset your Wikipedia account and got access to it that way? I guess that means that a) you were specifically targeted by UPEs since random hackers would not know or care about your Wikipedia NPP perm and b) they somehow had your email address? Do you remember any phishing attacks against your email or anything like that? –Novem Linguae (talk) 05:22, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
My account was compromised from May 2023 until it was blocked in August 2023, preventing further edits to the mainspace (actual compromise date is not known since i was inactive and under medical observation). The compromise ended when I regained access in September 2024. Any edits made between May and July 2023 were not mine but were done by the attacker. I'm unsure how they accessed my email, but I suspect it occurred after I clicked on a free mobile phone giveaway link shared in a local job offer WhatsApp group (which I have since exited). I downloaded a zip file containing a PDF, unaware that links from untrusted or unknown sources could compromise personal data. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 06:14, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Those dates all seem to line up (stated inactivity dates, compromise dates, XTools activity graph). As long as no UPE-like behavior is found outside the specified compromise dates (contribs link, deleted contribs link, page curation log), and no poor reviewing is found, I think we should consider re-granting NPP. I haven't yet done a deeper check than just dates and any admin should feel free to jump in and help with checking that if they want. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:47, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
See the parallel discussion of TheBirdsShedTears' recent autopatrolled request. There xaosflux said the evidence for a compromised account was there but "not definitive" and I'm not sure if anyone ran a CU check at the time. Personally I don't feel comfortable granting rights that we know are actively sought by malicious UPEs (NPR and autopatrolled) based on "not definitive". And if there was a compromise, there's still the question of how it happened, which based on the discussion above still seems to be unclear. – Joe (talk) 08:29, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done. I'm sorry, but you don't meet the WP:NPRCRITERIA. Additionally, I'm not seeing much experience with deletion or edits that help establish you're familiar and comfortable with our notability guidelines. I have sufficient experience with the deletion process and have been very active on WP:AFD where I have made policy based votes and feel very comfortable evaluating notability. Please see my AFD history. I have also read and understood the content policies and guidelines. RangersRus (talk) 21:18, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) @RangersRus: I am not an admin, but after seeing your outstanding AfD votes and demonstrations, I invited you to work on AfC, and you were given probationary AfC rights. However, I see that you haven’t reviewed a single draft. Is there any reason behind this? GrabUp - Talk 07:32, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
@GrabUp: I checked after seeing your message and I was oblivious of the probationary AFC rights. I am to blame here and I will get to reviewing drafts right away. For New Page reviewer rights, isn't AFD record enough? If reviewing draft record is also a qualification, then I would withdraw this request and spend couple of months in doing so. RangersRus (talk) 10:28, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment)@RangersRus: Hey, thanks for the response. No, an AfC record is not mandatory, but it helps to demonstrate your understanding. You don’t need to withdraw your request, as you have shown a good understanding of notability through AfD. Thanks. GrabUp - Talk 10:31, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
@GrabUp: Thank you. I have turned on AFC help script from your old instruction message. I will begin AFC reviewing sometime today. Administrators, due to my significant AFD record, I hope you allow me new page reviewer rights to help with the backlog. RangersRus (talk) 10:49, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Greetings, I have been volunteering with the goal to improve the WikiProject for the last 5 years, creating and updating articles mostly in the political area while trying to maintain as high impartiality as possible as well as following all rules established. I've since last year been granted Autopatrolled and in the granted message got asked to consider volunteering for this role too which i'm willing to do, to essentially help with making sure new articles (in the backlog) are in line with the rules. BastianMAT (talk) 13:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for volunteering,  Done for a 2-month trial. You are encouraged to re-apply roughly a week before the permission is set to expire. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:47, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

I would like to request NPR rights to assist in clearing out the backlog and maintaining the expected quality of new content. I have a few months of experience in AfC reviewing, and somewhat less experience with AfD, but occasionally monitor the PROD and speedy deletion categories and have PRODed some un-improvable articles in the past when working through Category:Unassessed articles (though at the time I didn't have the PROD log set up). I aim to help other editors understand Wikipedia's policies in a straightforward and friendly way, new or otherwise, to help them in the new page creation process and to reduce the burden on reviewers in the future. I'd like to get this right to delete unnecessary redirects (i.e. move pages over existing single revision redirects regardless of target). Additionally, I would also like to try to harmonize some pages of Spanish municipalities with the name of the country and the province (when necessary) instead of other subnational units (such as comarca). Moreover if a double denomination exists in some cases, I shall use the slash with spaces in between to enhance visual effect of different linguistic nomenclatures. However if an English form is more relevant I shall use it instead of double and local denominations. Other than that I could help elsewhere to move pages if necessary. Thank you, Nuvolet (talk)

A reasonable number of moves, but I not seeing any WP:RM/TR requests and am concerned by this RM which – based on the previous RM – seemed doomed to fail in the first place. This discussion also looks to be going against you. Primefac (talk) 18:05, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
I only can say I'll be responsible if you grant me this right. I can participate in more TM, I just need to get usedd.to them. Yes it failed however I understood the norms and moved similar articles to Countryname. I opposed to Anatolian plateau because there are other geographical units that use capitalization in similar contexts. — Jɑuмe (dis-me) 01:14, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Redlinked category

[edit]

Special:WantedCategories has, not for the first time, a redlinked category populated solely by a user's .js settings page. The category is Category:New Pages — but obviously .js pages aren't supposed to be categorized at all, and there'd be no call for "creating" that category to serve any other purpose. So the category needs to come off the page, but I don't have the necessary privileges to edit other people's .js pages, and the user is a brand-new editor who so far has only edited their own .js and .css pages with absolutely no edits to anything else.

So could somebody who does have the necessary privileges remove the category from the page? Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 15:16, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Done (I dealt with this via the WP:VPT post. — xaosflux Talk 17:35, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Category redirect populated by awkward pages

[edit]

Can someone go through the category redirect Category:LGBT+ Wikipedians and fix the js and css pages in it (or transcluded on the entries) so they are now in Category:LGBTQ+ Wikipedians? Thanks in advance. Timrollpickering (talk) 17:47, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
