Archive

Regarding user talk pages, it is best to not delete notices, but instead, to archive them. You will find how to do this at Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. Actively erasing non-harassing personal messages is often interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as uncivil. For this reason, if your deletion of notices and concerns on your user talk page is to keep the "clutter" down, I suggest that you instead create archives for these messages. --Geniac 13:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Rocky Horror

Hello, thanks for your message here. Anyone can place template messages on a page - the full list is here. The tag is to highlight that the page needs improvement. Some issues include the lack of sources, and the plot may too detailed (see {{plot}}). The film is significant and controversial, so I'm sure there's more which could be added to the article. Tags can be added or removed by anyone. --h2g2bob (talk) 07:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Information without a source can be deleted, cleanup tag or not. Disputed edits can be reverted/undone if you discuss it on the talk page. --h2g2bob (talk) 07:39, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your responce. Very quick as well! --Amadscientist 07:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

No problem - I know it takes forever to sort out articles (which is why we tag things in the hope others will help :). Finding sources is especially bad, so thanks for helping out. Don't hesitate to be bold and move or completely rewrite parts if you need to. Good luck! --h2g2bob (talk) 07:47, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

If you leave a message on my page, I'll get around there one day and knock the article into shape. It looks as if there is lots of info there already, and it needs tidying up a bit. I'm good at organising and tidying up and adding bits that seem to be missing. --Amandajm 09:07, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I have just recently joined the musicals project and was adding articles which fit our criteria into the project. Rocky Horror Picture Show fits into our project as it is a musical film so this is why it has been added. re: talk page

Thanks for the apology. A lot of editors don't have the merit to do something like that. I am also sorry if I came across as being unfriendly or rude to you. Edit conflicts are very stressful, and I too have quite a few times gotten hot under the collar during them. So no worries. Oh, and a quick suggestion about your talk page, or rather a question. I see you have a script archiving your talk every day. I'm not sure this is a good idea (makes it hard to see previous talk) and I think that might be too often. It's all up to your personal preference, though, I just wanted to suggest that it might be easier for you if you archive less often. Happy editing! CaveatLectorTalk 04:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Stonewall Inn riots

Hi, I'm posting here as I think you're doing an overhaul on gay pride article. The Stonewall riots were bull dykes and drag queens and should be noted as such. They were outcasts of general society as well gay circles (who were primarily white gay men) and they were in a funk because queer icon Judy garland had finally lost her battle to survive.[1] Benjiboi 00:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Lol. Actually the urban myth is that the riots started because the gay bar ran out of ice for cocktails. Judy Garland's death most definitely played a role as her tragic life was empathized by many queens (remember that celebrities generally were a lot less tragic in those days) and she was a gay icon for her character Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz - "A friend of Dorothy" as in any friend of Dorothy is a friend of mine. Her funeral was the topic of the day and had just ended hours earlier.Benjiboi 03:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
I think the following puts it best:

"The uprising was inspirited by a potent cocktail of pent-up rage (raids of gay bars were brutal and routine), overwrought emotions (hours earlier, thousands had wept at the funeral of Judy Garland) and drugs."

June 28, 1969 By JOHN CLOUD (printed Monday, Mar. 31, 2003)[2]
To get a sense of what the street kids, patrons and queens were like here is an excerpt from Martin Duberman's book "Stonewall"[3]

Notability of Frank N. Furter

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Frank N. Furter, by Magnus animum (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Frank N. Furter seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Frank N. Furter, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:38, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

PBL

No worries. We had a serious lack of communication. At first, I thought you were joking around with the tone of your comments on my talk page, but after I saw you were serious about the material, I realized that I should have been more flexible, after all, there's no harm in having a separate article and allowing it time to grow. From what I saw, I thought it was only a stub that was duplicating Ed Ricketts, but I didn't realize that you were just starting on expansion. I apologize. —Viriditas | Talk 12:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Re:Formatting

And that doesn't seem to be how the section is listed in film articles any longer. It seems odd that in-universe information would be separated by an out-of-universe section. I say this because the "Cast" section, as it is in that format, breeds IU information about the characters, even though the section should really be more OOU, in which case it should be called "Casting" and moved into "Production". If you are going to follow the format of "Actor as Character", like Jurassic Park (film), then you should probably keep it next to the point, since it tends to carry IU info about the characters. If you want to purge all IU information and be strictly OOU, then I'd suggest dropping that section in favor of a casting section, like Halloween (1978 film) (my personal choice in the matter). But, there are few FA film articles that actually follow the structure set forth by the Film style guidelines. The closests ones woudl be all the Star Wars articles, which have a cast section several sections away from the plot. But they also put the Production section first, instead of the plot section first.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 02:51, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, if it's "Casting" then it goes in the "Production" section, as it isn't a separate entity. I personally don't care for the "this is the superhero of the movie, he does this, this, and that". Or "she is a reporter that does this this and that". Whatever they do is covered in the plot, or just not importants. I'd much rather see relevant real world information.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 03:08, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Rocky Horror Picture Show

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Rocky Horror Picture Show you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. Superman

Since I was the one who recently nominated the Superman Returns article to GA, it will be nice to help you in the copyedit (I even reduced the production image you asked). But I got to question 2 things:

  1. What are the POV examples of the article, just to fix quickly?
  2. Why did you replace Superman and the plane for just Superman flying? igordebraga 18:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

One of the images has got to go, either the flying or the one with Lois. You cannot have non-free images so far from the text they are supposedly illustrating. You have this image at the end of the section, when the text it illustrates in in the middle. The images are eye candy. What needs to be decided is which one serves the greater purpose.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 22:06, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
We have 3 images of Superman, what is your fair use justification for the image of him flying? There is no reason for that many images of Superman. Seeing him fly doesn't help us understand the concept of him flying, the poster shows him flying just as well.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bignole (talkcontribs) 23:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
It takes two to tango there pal, and you are edit warring back. The point of fair use is that there should be a limited number of non-free images in an article, and you have not justified a reason for this image. Also, because someone else has it is not a reason to put it in another article. Every article is different.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I removed an image that I saw was not justifiable, you reverted. Must be my fault. Anyway, the discussion is on the talk page.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:30, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I told you on the talk page, the only other images of Superman are the poster (that isn't going anywhere) the image of him and Lois (which you believe should be there) and a production photo that shows the greenscreen work they did, and that has real world value. There are two images that do not have real world value, those are the two in the plot. You have the Lois image no where near the text that describes it, and that is a no-no. There are just too many images in the plot section than is necessary. As for the warring, you are aware that you could have initiated the discussion without reverting, the image wasn't going anywhere for at least a week, and that's only if the bot grabbed it as soon as it was removed.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
What context are they providing, that is what needs to be stated. What other articles do has no relevance here, because every article is different. The FA articles differ among themselves greatly, same with the GA articles, so pointing to a couple of them does not equate to "this is the right way."  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:54, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
They influence the style guidelines, but what they do not do is provide excuses for what other articles do. To use your own words in regards to the cast section, other FA and GA articles have Cast sections. I don't know where you got what Wiki wants from, but what Wiki wants is quality articles. How the article is formatted (and images have nothing to do with formatting, which is a structural issue) is minor compared to what the article says.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 00:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't matter, because according to you, if other FAs have it then we can have it. Correct? Style guideline mentions nothing about images in the plot, yet we are going by prior FAs for that. I already know this article is a mess, I have worked on plenty of film articles, and written plenty of FA articles...so I'm no stranger to policy and guidelines. The plot section itself can be trimmed further. The information about the budget has no need to be a subsection. The filming section needs to be expanded greatly. The reception section needs to be rewritten almost entirely. Image size is irrelevant, since "thumb" has a set size (it's user preference, you adjust it in your preference section so that it will appear at whatever size you like). If you want the images bigger, go to "My preferences" at the top, then select "File" and adjust your thumbnail setting to be what you like--You can go as high as 300px. Also, I have no intention of doing anything to the article other than maybe trimming the plot, moving "Promotions" out of "Production", as the two are not related, and merging "Budget" with "Filming" (under the Filming title) as your budget usually directly affects your filming. That, or put the budget in the development portion, as you could consider it part of that aspect.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 00:53, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Talk about civility, telling me my opinions are not relevant. First, I have no idea what you are talking about with the Project Film community and them not agreeing with me. I also do not know where you are getting this theory that my "need to edit others overrides my other efforts," as I have garned enough respect for my work to suggest otherwise. As for image size, to point out your inaccuracy, I actually used to make everything specified, but I changed. You have a preference section, use it if you don't like the image size. Or, try adjusting your monitor's resolution.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 01:02, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Just to point out, unregistered users have a default size. You cannot please everyone when it comes to image size. If you set it at 300px, or 350px, that may be too large for other editors..the same goes with you saying it is too small for you. When you click the image, it enlarges...it doesn't decrease for those that don't want the image in their face while they read.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 01:44, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:35, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Midnight Moon

Give me till the end of the day, I have to go to work, so I won't be able to actually read the article to see how they are using the images. I glanced at it, and one image is public domain, so that's fine. I read the captions on the last two images, and I'm not seeing how those images help to illustrate anything of what they are saying. I'll read it further when I get home at 5 p.m. (in about 10 hours) and let you know what I think.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 11:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Usherette Trixie Roxy.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Usherette Trixie Roxy.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:00, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Palazzo_Pio.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Palazzo_Pio.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:42, 19 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? MECUtalk 01:42, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Rogers

Thanks for the heads up. It doesn't upset me in the least. The material in question is as follows:

In June 2006, Rogers provided the opening prayer for a same-sex wedding ceremony. Rogers reportedly expressed "an intensely deep loneliness that stemmed from his inability to have both a [same-sex] relationship ... and the military career he also loved so much. " [1]

Comments left with the edit: "Not an acceptable source. Find something better and I wont continue to remove this.)" 69.62.180.166 is you? I think, the first sentence is more encyclopedic than the second. I'll also post this on the discussion page.--Robapalooza (talk) 00:29, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Blane Frank N Furter designs.JPG}

Thank you for uploading Image:Blane Frank N Furter designs.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Please stop. If you continue to blank out or delete portions of page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did to California Musical Theatre, you will be blocked from editing. DionysosProteus (talk) 14:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

You do not know what you are talking about. I am a registered user and began that page and watch it closely.--Amadscientist (talk) 03:32, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
A response to the questions I posed here would be helpful, courteous, and perhaps even succeed in changing my mind so that we don't chase each other all over Wikipedia battling out a spelling war.--Bhuck (talk) 13:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
A disagreement over spelling does not constitute vandalism. Amadscientist is by no means a vandal, and is actually a very good user. Adding this warning was a case of extremely bad judgement. J Milburn (talk) 13:32, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
I think the warning by DionysosProteus was about something else, though I don't know for sure. I did not mean to imply that Amadscientist was a vandal, I just thought if there was already a section on his talk page about the CMT, why add yet another? I think we are perfectly capable of discussing the matter as civilized adults and have made a start at it already.--Bhuck (talk) 13:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

I've done about as much as I can with the resources I have at hand. Further work will require more specialized architectural and historical works that I don't now have access to. I plan to keep working on this article but in a more extended, less intense way, as I have other commitments with a prior claim (i.e., the series of articles on Jane Austen). I believe the work I've done is an improvement and would appreciate feedback. I've left a group of comments on the Talk page of this article for consideration.
