[edit]

Thank you for your help with my article on the above. You said remove external links and add citations. Can you please be more precise to what bits of information you are referring to? I also don't understand why you would delete external links once you add a citation? In academic literature adding links is standard practice.

Are you referring to the links to the paintings?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Eikoku (talkcontribs) 14:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eikoku You have external links to https://www.edmontonartclub.com https://www.albertasocietyofartists.com and a number of museums, we don’t use links like that in the body of a Wikipedia article. Theroadislong (talk) 17:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK thank you very much. So re the museum and gallery holdings at the end what should I do? Should I link to the Wikipedia page of the institution and then have the artwork as a reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eikoku (talkcontribs) 18:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that's right. Please also read WP:REFB for help with correctly formatting sources for example what are the "Supra" sources intended to be? Theroadislong (talk) 19:01, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks. Supra means above in Latin and is a standard form of citation in ac academic works. Eikoku (talk) 19:07, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is NOT a standard format for Wikipedia though! Theroadislong (talk) 19:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So how should I refer to a source that has already been cited above? Eikoku (talk) 14:56, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eikoku see WP:CONSECUTIVECITE. Theroadislong (talk) 15:04, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi That doesn't appear to be relevant. I am citing different pages in the same text in part. How do I do that? Can you provide some examples from live wikipedia pages please so I can follow that please? Eikoku (talk) 15:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:OPCIT for same source but different page number. Theroadislong (talk) 15:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I just can't understand any of these wikipedia descriptions which are far too technical - I really just need examples of what to do. Eikoku (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This one seems to just repeat the same citation again? John Duncan Fergusson Eikoku (talk) 15:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It states... Named references in conjunction with the {{rp}} or {{r}} templates to specify the page. Theroadislong (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I just don't undestand that. Can you provide some examples? Many thanks. Eikoku (talk) 15:19, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would edit your draft to show you but I can make no sense of your citation style! I'll try and find an example. Theroadislong (talk) 15:22, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you follow the instructions here instead Template:Reference page. Theroadislong (talk) 15:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So supra 5 just means the reference is the same as that at citation 5.
I also see that ibid (as above) is discouraged... Eikoku (talk) 15:42, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh so I found this - it seems you just repeat the citation? Arthur Lismer See footnote 15 and 16. Eikoku (talk) 16:41, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that's a possibility, though not a very tidy one. Theroadislong (talk) 16:43, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have reformatted a number of your sources, if you want to have a go at the rest I will be happy to check them over. Subject likely passes the criteria at WP:NARTIST but it's good to get the references sorted first. Theroadislong (talk) 17:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So for footnote 8 and 9 which is taken from the same source as 3 - based in the Arthur Lismer page and the John Duncan Ferguson page which just repeats the same citation in full - for footnote 8 and 9 I just repeat citation 3? Thank you. Eikoku (talk) 18:09, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I gave the ref a name here [1] and then linked it to the other footnotes 8 and 9 here [2]. Hope that’s clear? Theroadislong (talk) 18:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you revert it back please to how it was as I don't understand this at all and am concerned that citations have disappeared.
I found something which says you create a "short citation" rather than repeating the whole thing each time. Wikipedia:Citing sources This seems to be the best option as I understand it and can do myself. Thank you. Eikoku (talk) 18:34, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
the citations have NOT disappeared they have been formatted correctly I'm sorry you can't see that, perhaps somebody else at the Wikipedia:Teahouse could better explain it? Theroadislong (talk) 18:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please explain how I repeat what you have done then please? If I repeat what you have done is the next one 1RF? i.e. <ref name="1RF"> Eikoku (talk) 18:52, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually scrap that - can you do these too then further down too? Thank you!
ibid.
Supra 3
Supra 18
ibid.
ibid. Eikoku (talk) 18:38, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what Supra 18 or ibid refers to, this is why we don't use your method of citations here, because when another editor adds a source the numbering of the references changes. Theroadislong (talk) 18:45, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain how I repeat what you have done then please? Is it <ref name="1RF"> then 2 RF etc? Eikoku (talk) 18:53, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK - I've worked it out now. Thank you. Will tidy it up this weekend. Thank you very much for your help!!!! Eikoku (talk) 19:12, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The ref name can be anything I usually use the initials of the source but it can be anything you like. Theroadislong (talk) 19:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to say thank you for your help - I have redone the references and resubmitted. Thank you very much indeed for your patience and help. Eikoku (talk) 12:49, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My report!

[edit]

Hey!, I have reported the case of Abhinav Ankit on Administrators noticeboard. Moreover, I have also added that he is sock. Please check the case. Thanks! TheProEditor11 (talk) 08:14, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Potential Studios LLP

Hi, you have mentioned Times of India is not a reliable source which surprises me. Times of India is one of the leading news paper and news websites in India. KualaLumpurian (talk) 13:17, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:TOI for why the TOI is not necessarily reliable. In short, their fact checking is poor; they have also published at least one AI-generated article. India in general, frankly, does not have a strong history of press freedom. 331dot (talk) 13:23, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. KualaLumpurian (talk) 00:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We consider the Chennai International Film Festival Awards, IIFA Utsavam Awards and Vijay Awards as the notable awards. KualaLumpurian (talk) 00:34, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Beginning to see some trouble in Piece by Piece (2024 film) again

[edit]

A user with the handle "The Clutch Powers" is making [3] [4] more edits about the companies "Tongal" and Pure Imagination Studios. A relatively new user. Claims they recieve an "in association with" credit in the film. the user tries to present these companies as production companies. Even if this is so, and I myself believe it: This is obviously not the definition of a production company. Stark difference there.

Anyway, this could be a sock or meatpuppet from the Pure Imagination Studios company, seeing as we've encountered this trouble before by one of their paid interns trying to add this information (if you recall). It may be too early to invoke WP:DUCK, but I've got my suspicions. Just wanted to put this forth to your attention.

Hope you've been doing well! BarntToust (talk) 14:47, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry I dont understant how I can make an article about prof Polyakov. I made this draft, included some references but it was rejected. Pls clarify what Im doing wrong. John S. Ford (talk) 16:43, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was declined not rejected. As per previous reviewers comment "this is still far from adequate: in articles on living people, every material statement, anything potentially contentious, and all private personal details such as DOB must be clearly supported by inline citations to reliable published sources, or else removed." You have vast swathes of unsourced content. Theroadislong (talk) 16:46, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can make the references for russian-language Wikipedia or not? John S. Ford (talk) 16:52, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is user edited so is not a reliable source. Theroadislong (talk) 18:09, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Damian Tab

[edit]

Hi, In Israel, among the street art scene Damian Tab is a VERY known artist. Several exhibitions displaying his art have been enacted. His legacy as an artist is still very much active. I think that notability in his case is proven. פרחחשמח (talk) 20:15, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've edited this article and resubmitted. Pertinent information (award nominations, chart positions) were omitted from the original submission. Kranthkorpool (talk) 12:09, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AutoMowheelz‎

[edit]

I have knocked back your G4 nomination for AutoMowheelz‎ as the AFD closure was soft delete, and that is treated as a prod. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:47, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
