Elena Matei
Doing a search of dailymail.co.uk. Retrieved on wikipedia returns the maximum allowed 500 search results. There are literally 10's of thousands of articles on wikipedia that source the Daily Mail. Given the article is of event coverage with photographic proof the Daily Mail reference will stay. I get the same results with YouTube.com. Virtually every artist seems to use YouTube.com as a reference. Is there a rule on wikipedia where these two specific references were banned from wikipedia? Never mind I see your previous comment.. The youtube.com account that published the track is from record label which would fit the guidelines of what they say in that banned article list. I will double check on the DailyMail but this is event coverage with photographic proof of the article's context. It doesn't make any wild claims but I am sure there are more references I can find. Regarding article Harishankar Narayanan
Hey. I just came across my mail which stated that you have declined my page on Harishankar Narayanan. It says the DailyMail and YouTube are not recognizable links. I shall delete those, if needed. But he was actually mention in the former and there is a paragraph about him in that article. Also, are the other contents about the page okay? Please do look into it and I hope that you approve the same, as soon as possible.

Daljit Kundi (sandbox)
Dear Theroadislong
Hope your well,
I’ve re-edited the Wikipedia sandbox-draft for Film-composer SINIUS.
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Daljitkundi/sandbox?wprov=sfti1
As requested to contain elements from the source of Wikipedia I’ve cited a few members with credibility that have official Wikipedia pages I’ve included within this draft, I have also taken out the 3rd party references and kept the whole page within the source of Wikipedia’s terms, if the biography is still not acceptable under the terms of Wikipedia, please do let me know how to control this as this is the official biography via the source of sinius’s home website.
If there’s anything else you require please do let me know.
Kind Regards,
-Daljit — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.135.26 (talk) 16:03, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Your draft now has no sources? Notability requires verifiable evidence. Wikipedia requires there to be in-depth coverage in reliable, independent published sources, if there are no reliable sources about Daljitkundi then we cannot have an article. Theroadislong (talk) 17:54, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Please let me know what more reliable and independent sources are required in article to qualify submission?
Hey Theroadislong!
How are you? Thanks for reviewing my page. I would like to know what kind of other references you are requiring in order to prove the reliability of the topic 'Akshay Srivastava'. Which sources you consider 'independent'? Kindly please clear the doubt with an example. I think Google Play Artist Hub is one of the most reliable source that is accessible to millions of people. Information in such sources are already verified. Please let me know what you exactly trying to say. :)
Thanks, Kind regards, akshaysrivastavaofficial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akshaysrivastavaofficial (talk • contribs) 19:31, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Your draft has 17 references none of which are independent I'm afraid, they are mostly commercial links which are not acceptable. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have published about it in reliable places, such as books, newspapers, magazines etc. Theroadislong (talk) 19:36, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

- I'm afraid it reads like an advert and all the external links in the body of the article need to be removed. Theroadislong (talk) 12:42, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- I am sorry you see it that way. I read it through again and find it neutral. The article is written with inspiration from other game-articles on Wikipedia. Moreover, there are no links to any selling pages and only links to the distributors' main pages to verify my statements. Is it "bad" to link to the official rules and a video of the inventor explaining the rules? I thought it was a nice touch but I am not sure if you editors don't like it?
- Articles require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic (see WP:42) we have no interest in what the company says about the game. Theroadislong (talk) 14:04, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Donna Strickland
Hello there, please can you explain what you mean by "incorrectly sourced personal details" for Nobel Prize winner Donna Strickland's page? Donna told me directly 2 days ago, the names of her children and what they are doing. Furthermore, I inserted a link to her daughter, Hannah Dykaar's page at the University of Toronto. Professor Strickland has requested this -- it is part of her life as a Woman in STEM.
I would appreciate it if you would clarify precisely what you consider to be correctly sourced personal details. For example, what about a press release from Waterloo University listing her children and what they are doing? I can request that from the university when I visit to give a university seminar this coming week.
thank you in advance for your response, best wishes Carries MumCarries mum (talk) 12:08, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- Personal contact with the subject does NOT constitute a reliable source I'm afraid, we need independent published sources that state she is her daughter, you added an external link [2] which does NOT mention her being Strickland's daughter. Correct sources are absolutely imperative when editing personal details on BLPs. Theroadislong (talk) 12:18, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

external links within the main text
Hi Theroadislong. Thank you so much for your help! I believe I took care of the external links embedded in terms throughout the main text. Would you mind re-reviewing the page? I'd most appreciate it. PaulThePony (talk) 18:18, 13 October 2018 (UTC)Paul
- The Essays (Selection) section contains at least 30 external links and I'm not sure that the list of essays is required at all. Theroadislong (talk) 18:30, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi Theroadislong. I ineptly tried to withdraw my request to recheck the page because I realized there were still so many things to correct pertaining to your first points! But I now think I've taken care of the 30+ external links. And I'm certainly open to hearing more of your thoughts on the list of essays. More prolifically than anything else in writing, she is known as an essayist, perhaps more so in Germany than the US, while she's also a novelist and visual artist.
Another question--let me know if I should copy and paste this as a new question: At the start of the categories box it is currently stated, "This page will be placed in the following categories if it is moved to the Article namespace." I've been reading up at pages that discuss some of this and it states that categories ought not be in the main article, so I'm confused! At the same time, if there's a way for the page/subject to appear on those various category pages, once/if my article is published, that would be great. Another query: Is there a way to get "Notable Awards" in the infobox changed to read "Awards". Curiously, in source edit mode it only says "Awards". Also, is there a special prize for having exactly 100 footnotes? ;) Thank you, again, for your attention to these matters. PaulThePony (talk) 21:35, 13 October 2018 (UTC)Paul
- The info box parameters are fixed I think, the categories are fine and will work when the article is accepted. There is no prize for having 100 references I'm afraid, the article is more likely to be accepted with three solid reliable sources than 100 poor ones! I have improved my article with more references and sections
I have improved my article on Draft:Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery with more references and sections. There is a limit to how much can be written about a new branding that has only existed for 3 years, but I felt it was noteworthy because of the wider impact that its parent company Mitchells and Butler are having on the UK restaurant market and the demise of the Crown Carvery branding.

Hi Theroadislong.
My name is Tanyka Davson and I work at Weber Shandwick. I am currently working on behalf of my client, Iceland Foods to request a Wikipedia page for Managing Director of Iceland Foods, Richard Walker.
I wondered if you could provide some more information on the reasons for rejecting my proposed draft Draft:Richard Walker (Businessman). I note that this is due to a lack of reliable referencing and hoped you could share your particular concerns. I feel we have provided a number of sources that have been independently written by reliable sources, in-line with similar Wiki articles.
If you could provide any more detail on how to improve this draft it would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Tanykadavson WS (talk) 14:59, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Moving users' sandbox pages into draftspace - why is that a 'preferred location'?
Hi there. When you've a moment, could I ask if you'd help me understand your rationale for moving userspace drafts into draftspace without any prior request from a user? At least - I think that's what's happening, and I'm a bit confused.
For example, with this diff you moved User:BARRY BARON/sandbox to Draft:Saint Matthew and the Angel Redux with the edit summary "preferred location". As there was no notification or explanation left on the user's talk page, half an hour later, what I think was a rather confused new editor posted at the WP:TH, wondering what had happened to his sandbox (diff). I'll be honest, I was too. I've scoured our guidelines (as part of my own learning experience to understand the finer -and sometimes not so finer- points of policy) to see if there's anything to say that draft articles should be moved from a sandbox without a user request being made, or under what circumstances. There's nothing I can see at Help:Userspace draft, or at Help:My sandbox, where the latter says: "My sandbox is a feature which gives you a place to practice editing, either to build a draft for later publication in the main encyclopedia, or just to practice formatting with wiki markup syntax."
And Wikipedia:Drafts states "If you are logged in, creating a Draft version first is optional. Editors may instead choose to create draft pages in their userspace, or new articles directly in mainspace..."
So, I'm left wondering if moving a sandbox without a user requesting it is something I've misunderstood; and if it's a commonly accepted practice, under what circumstances it's OK to do it, and when it's not.
Now, in this case, I think the editor was trying to draft something in their sandbox based on some potentially exciting WP:OR, but we've told him more than once in the last few days at the Teahouse (and now on his talk page) that he stands no chance of publishing it here at this time until it receives coverage elsewhere. That said, I wouldn't think of moving that content into draftspace if I hadn't seen a request for help to do so unless, of course, I'd hoped that in 6 months time it might be deleted if not edited again. (I'd have thought WP:MfD was the appropriate route to follow there). Right now, I've got lots of half-drafted articles in my sandbox subpages going back quite some considerable time, and would be quite miffed if they'd been unilaterally moved to draftspace for what I perceived were no valid reason, and especially if they then subsequently got deleted purely through my own acquiescence in editing them. I'm not suggesting you had no reason - I'm simply trying to fathom out the circumstances in which you see it's OK to take those actions, and under what policies. Any help you can give on this would be much appreciated. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 00:40, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Saint Matthew and the Angel Controversy
I think that you made a reasonable mistake, but a mistake nonetheless, in moving Bobby Baron's sandbox to Draft:Saint Matthew and the Angel Redux. I don't think that it should be in draft space. As User:Nick Moyes explained in discussion in the Teahouse, Bobby Baron is wasting his time discussing and writing in Wikipedia about his research (evidently following up on his mother's research) about the colors of the destroyed masterpiece of Saint Matthew and the Angel. Since what Bobby Baron is working on is never going to be a Wikipedia article, it doesn't belong in draft space. It doesn't really belong in Wikipedia at all, but it definitely isn't a draft. After reading the most recent discussion in the Teahouse (in which Bobby Baron is enthusiastic about what he is doing and continuing to ask questions and not pay attention), I looked at Bobby Baron's work, which was in his sandbox and you moved into draft space. I was considering nominating the draft for deletion at Miscellany for Deletion, because it will never be an article, but then I saw that he didn't put it in draft space. You did, and I am not sure why, because it isn't meant to be a draft article. Unfortunately, I think that your action in moving his work from his sandbox to draft space was disruptive and confusing. (It is less wrong in his sandbox than in draft space, or more wrong in draft space.) You also confused Nick Moyes, who is also trying to dissuade Bobby Baron.
Perhaps you can explain why you decided to move it to draft space, but I think that you made a mistake and have made a confused situation (confused due to Bobby Baron's insistence on what appears to be using Wikipedia for his original research as a rapid publication mechanism) more confused. Robert McClenon (talk) 07:23, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- Aaaargh sorry, Robert McClenon and Nick Moyes brain malfunction, I spend a lot of time at AFC and clearly forget when I was new page patrolling instead. Theroadislong (talk) 08:34, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- OK - thanks for that. Happens the best of us - and you are one of those, so I was getting worried I'd missed something. Erm, I haven't checked any of them, but I see quite a few other recent moves from user sandbox to draft in your latest contributions. Are these all done at user request, or might they need a quick check too? I only ask because User:Plaba123/Miracle Hill Ministries also came up in a Teahouse question, and I didn't see any request at the time to move it to draftspace..
- ...When I get some more free time, I'm thinking of getting some experience at WP:AFC - so you'll be able to nitpick me there in return, I'm sure! Many thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 08:51, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

- User:Theroadislong, User:Nick Moyes, User:BARRY BARON : I tried to move it to User:BARRY BARON/sandbox2. That failed because I got a stupid error message saying that the title is on the title blacklist. This message, which is very user-unfriendly, really means that the proposed title violates any of a variety of rules defined as regexp expressions. In this case, the rule is against having too many capital letters in a title, but the too many capital letters are already in the username. I have moved it to User:Barry Baron/sandbox2, but that isn't the same, because titles are case-sensitive. When I try to complain about the stupid error message, I generally get told that the message is self-explanatory, which it is not, or something equally stupid. NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018
|
Hello Theroadislong, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- Backlog
As of 21 October 2018[update], there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.
- Community Wishlist Proposal
- There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
- Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!
- Project updates
- ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
- There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.
- New scripts
- User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

New to wikipedia... quick questions
Hi,
wow, I was told it was best to submit content then continue to refine while it was in the queue (which could take weeks).
What is best? Wait till complete or submit and modify?
I was asked to put this entry in as the paint is new and won an award in the UK however this is the first time. There is a lot of testing and research papers available by 3rd parties institutions however they are not online. What do I do? Should the product owner put them on their own site or should it be elsewhere??
Any help appreciated!!
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pskbuk (talk • contribs) 14:54, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- Who asked you to put "the entry in" ? Wikipedia has essentially no interest in anything that a subject says or wants to say about itself: it is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have published about it, in reliable places. Article Declined
Hey I just wanted to see what you thought my article on Evan Michael Green needed. There a lot publications that have reported on him and several are the top in their field. Most most of the info came from their sites, not personal blogs. Like AllHipHop and PopDust for example get millions of views.
Please advise, happy to make corrections as this is my first Wiki page I've created!
- Your draft Draft:Evan Michael Green has no sources? If he has been in lots of publications, you need to cite them, WP:REFB will help with formatting sources. Theroadislong (talk) 20:27, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
How to improve?
If I were to provide references to goodreads, would that make the submission more acceptable?
- I have no idea which article you are referring to I'm afraid, but Goodreads would not be considered a reliable source. Theroadislong (talk) 19:56, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
I am referring to In Light of the Last. I would like to understand how I could respond to your notability requirement. Gunjaya (talk) 20:02, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspaper or magazine reviews. Your draft has no sources at all. Theroadislong (talk) 20:03, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
That critique is warranted -- the best I have right now are Goodreads reviews that were made by people unknown to the author. I have since put those into the draft. I do not understand why reviews on a reputable website like Goodreads does not suffice. There are people on Goodreads who have a near-professional hobby of reviewing books. Gunjaya (talk) 20:09, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- You need to read WP:BOOKCRIT to see what the threshold for inclusion is. Theroadislong (talk) 20:18, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
Okay, thank you very much for your help. Gunjaya (talk) 20:21, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
I truly mean it. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Gunjaya (talk) 20:29, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
Do you think the book being written up by a local bookstore in the city in which I live correlates with notability? Or must it be a well-known circulated publication? What if the write-up by the local bookstore was printed in a local newspaper (i.e., it only serves the local community and not on a regional or national scale). I’m requesting assistance bc I did an article on an artist Evan Michael Green that has several million plays and he is blowing up but it got denied. I don’t work for the artist just like the songs and gathered info from over 30 articles online about the artist. Then @OrangeMike dissed me and acted like I wrote a press release. How rude! Assuming and accusing when I was just trying to help the community. How can I get past this issue?
Onlinecrates (talk) 03:50, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- In order to demonstrate notability, you need to provide multiple references to in-depth articles written about Evan Michael Green in unrelated, independent journals, magazines, books or online. You say there are over 30 articles about him, but you haven't listed any of them if you don't source the draft then we can’t have an article. Theroadislong (talk) 15:20, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Saturday Zoo
On 28 October 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Saturday Zoo, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Jonathan Ross in Saturday Zoo (1993) was described as "humour-resistant Teflon"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Saturday Zoo. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Saturday Zoo), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Re-submission
I resubmitted my article in error. I wanted to ask a question as the article is similar in style to Nick Cope Musician yet that has less references, the decline says there arent reference yet many newspaper articles have been referenced.
Paul9571 (talk) 16:11, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- The decline notice doesn't actually say that though? It says "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people)" Please also note that his Facebook page, Instagram, Youtube and his own website are not suitable sources. Mark Allen Group article
Hiya,
I have just seen than the entry I put forwards for the Mark Allen Group has been rejected and I could use some advice on the changes you feel are needed. I deliberately tried to remain neutral when I put the page together but clearly didn't meet the standards needed. I have had a look through some of the suggested articles but I am genuinely confused. I tried to base it off of another media companies article which is live on the Wikipedia at the moment as I thought it would be a good model to use. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Haymarket_Media_Group
Any help and advice you can give would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Dareluca (talk) 12:28, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- The article on Haymarket Media Group is also a poor quality article with insufficient sourcing, your draft has 5 unsourced paragraphs and paid editing is strongly discouraged. Theroadislong (talk) 14:18, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. If I were to delete the 5 unsourced paragraphs would that mean you would be able to approve the page?
Dareluca (talk) 15:00, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- It would be a help, but I won't be accepting it, it's basically a list of company acquisitions and being 46th in the Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 for mid-market, privately owned companies, hardly makes them a notable company, another reviewer might see it differently, feel free to re-submit I won't decline again. Theroadislong (talk) 15:12, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Melanie Dekker
Hi Theroadislong! :) I've added the source now: The English draft is a nearly 1:1-translation of the current GERMAN wiki-site of Melanie Dekker. All the sources in that German version (mostly also by me edited, almost, as you can see in the history) have been confirmed and published already some time ago, as you can see right here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanie_Dekker
If you do understand German as well as English, then it may be no problem to see the article translation is okay. :)
Oh, some time ago (I don't where and when and who it was) I've been told that when making a new article it's no problem when the text is translated 1:1 (without editing all the REFS again). that is why we prepared the text early in 2015 for this English article now (okay, took a while now :)
The missing part of the full translation is finished also and I will add it to the source text this weekend.
Melanie & me are thankful for ANY help if there are still problems. Thank you, best regards from us! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElephantEars (talk • contribs) 23:48, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- The draft has no sources though? It may be copied from the German Wikipedia but it still needs verifiable sources and you indicate that you may have a conflict of interest? Theroadislong (talk) 23:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so far, Theroadislong! :) Q: If a translation of the German article may not be possible, I perhaps misunderstand this translation feature: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Translation#How_to_translate , or? Q about the references: The original article (German) is quite a few years old now and it's former (already approved) refs/sources have been removed from the internet already (coz websites have been renewed or old content deleted). So what to do with these? About my connection: No COI here, i'm only a fan. Liking her music, interested what she did and is doing and I wanna feed (the ENGLISH) Wikipedia now, the same way I already did it years ago in German. She just helps me to translate this into proper English - or do YOU want to do translate the text with me, coz google is not good for that (typos, pronunciation and so on)!? :) ElephantEars (talk —Preceding undated comment added 17:20, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

- Please read Wikipedia:Identifying and using independent sources for help with which sources are deemed independent, her own book is a primary source. Wikipedia has no interest in what the articles subject says about herself, only what reliable sources have reported.
Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have published about it her in reliable places. The article should be limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said about them. Theroadislong (talk) 20:08, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
