20:21:52, 18 May 2018 review of submission by Benchik Pelmenchik

Howdo! I just wondered if you could recommend what would be needed to fix the Magni page you just looked at to demonstrate the notability? Magno is mentioned three times on the Würzburg Cathedral page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Würzburg_Cathedral and has a massive section on this external website: http://www.tessinerkuenstler-ineuropa.ch/ita/magni-gp-ita.html How could I better emphasise this on the Wiki article, do you reckon? Cheers, Ben Benchik Pelmenchik (talk) 20:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Benchik Pelmenchik (talk) 20:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia articles are no good for establishing notability. I've had a quick search and there really doesn't seem to be much written about him does there? Do you have access to Dettelbacher, Werner (1974). Franken - Kunst, Geschichte und Landschaft (German). Dumont Verlag. ISBN 3-7701-0746-2. this is used as a reference in the Würzburg Cathedral article. Theroadislong (talk) 20:37, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
This may be of use [1] and you haven't mentioned his work on Würzburg Cathedral in the draft. Theroadislong (talk) 20:56, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Cheers, just been looking at all that. Here's a big fat academic monograph on the feller, by the way: http://frankenland.franconica.uni-wuerzburg.de/login/data/1999_34.pdf I should have kept it as a draft really, I suppose, and meant to come back to it to add a lot more stuff anyway. Magni is easily comparable to Francis Bernasconi, say, about whom we've had an article for ages. Going back to have a look at the draft again now... Benchik Pelmenchik (talk) 21:11, 19 May 2018 (UTC) Was just working on it, when I saw "declined 3 seconds ago" up at the top - hold your horses! :D Maybe it's better now, would you say?Benchik Pelmenchik (talk) 21:31, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

It was declined yesterday not today? Happy to accept now with the further sources, just re-submit. Theroadislong (talk) 22:57, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Good stuff, many thanks! Benchik Pelmenchik (talk) 15:49, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Some advice about noteability

Hello, I had a couple questions about what you might think I should do. I am writing about someone that I am inspired by. He is really huge in my state and he is very notable. I don't know how to find the articles written on him though. I was hoping maybe you can provide some advice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christianw2018 (talkcontribs) 22:10, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Theroadislong, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

independent sources

Hi Theroadislong,

Can you please tell me what you meant by "no independent sources?", as I wish to further improve the article and resubmit it later.

The article in question is: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Paul_Varghese#Article_Updated_and_Improved

Thank You & Kind Regards, DemonKing158 (talk) 12:33, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Writing an autobiography is probably the most difficult thing to do on Wikipedia and is STRONGLY discouraged. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects and has essentially no interest in what anybody says or wants to say about themselves, on Wikipedia we need reliable sources independent of the subject. Everester Anand Mali

--Malianand (talk) 16:25, 28 May 2018 (UTC)hey hii... i recently created a wiki page for Anand Mali ... he is a mountaineer and has scaled Everest also.. you have rejected saying that its self promotion ... there are many mountaineers who already have similar kind of pages ... eg: Ashish Mane... then why is my page declined... Please help me understand what can i do about it...

My decline didn't mention "self promotion" ? It said "This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue." Your draft has no sources at all. Theroadislong (talk) 18:02, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Re Roger Michell potter edit

Hi, yes, I am Roger Michell's wife. I shall not use bias in any sense at all editing the wiki page about my husband. I am I think in the best position to record accuarate information about him and his work. My first edit was to remove the name of Roger Michell the director from the page as this page is not about Roger Michell the director it is about Roger Michell the potter. When I search for Roger Michell I get the director. If I want Roger Michell the potter I have to put Roger Michell the potter therefore can you explain please the purpose of including Roger Michell the director on this page? with all due respect, Juliamichell — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 21:40, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

It's normal to include a link to other people of the same name but not essential. Wikipedia has no interest in what you or I know, it is only interested in what reliable sources have published about him, all content must be backed up with independent sources. All good wishes. Theroadislong (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Re Roger Michell potter edit

The second edit was linked to my book not because I am interested in advertising it but it is relevant to the fact of the Walking Ware and is the only definitive book on Walking Ware (written actually in collaboration with Roger himself) in existence and as such carries all the information that you need to know about Walking Ware and Roger's connection to it. Although this was and still is his most popularly selling work Roger must not be wholly defined by it as this would not be a true representation of him or his work or his life. Additionally, Danka Napiorkowska is an important part of the Walking Ware phenomenon but as he is not to be wholly defined by Walking Ware neither is he to be wholly defined by Danka or Lustre Pottery. As you can see I have altered the information not to disclude Danka but to qualify the origin of the designs. I had hoped to edit further concerning the origin of Lustre Pottery and hope that Wiki concern over bias will not apprehend the truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 22:01, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

There are quite a few formatting errors in the references now, I will try and sort them out later, but PLEASE note that Wikipedia is not concerned with the truth, it is only interested in reporting what people who have no connection with the subject have published about them, in reliable places. This is why when you have a conflict of interest you are encouraged not to edit the article yourself but to make suggestions on the talk page for others to implement. Gerhard Daum Music edition

Hello Theroadislong,

thanks for your proposal on the Gerhard Daum Music Edition and merging it with the Gerhard Daum site. I'd love to explain why I think that the two articles should be separate and maybe you do have advice for me, how to make them more separate. The Gerhard Daum site is on the composer, mainly focusing on his commissioned work, while the site of the Gerhard Daum Music Edition focuses on the works he has written or rewritten on his own account and that have been made public through the label and the music library, though many of these works have later been used in different media as well. So the difference being that one even though it works under his name is a label, while the other article is about the composer as an artist. Does that make sense to you? thanks again for your comments and looking forward to your reply. Kerstin Gehner (talk) 14:34, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Salt and Pepper page...

Hi... I went to Wiki page because someone was misinterpreting & quoting the info incorrectly on Facebook... I read the entire thing, saw the mention of the Museum & other club, and decided to try to put our group's website link there as well. My plan was to later go back and do some more editing of the body of the article, with added citations from the literature, as I learned how to edit (if it worked).

so why can Museum & other club be there, and not the AGSSSC? please let me know if you have received this? scott roland, GlimmerGlass Antiques, VP-AGSSSC GlimmerGlassAntiques (talk) 18:38, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

GlimmerGlassAntiques Adding links to your own website is considered spamming, I have removed the other links too. Theroadislong (talk) 18:58, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

This is not my own website... we an international collecting club, with hundreds of members, organized in 1983! We have information to share. I do intend on editing the page to correct the misleading statements on salt and pepper shakers... GlimmerGlassAntiques (talk) 19:05, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Response to submission of article: Education Marketing

Dear User

This is in reference to the article "Education marketing" submitted for review. I have duly noted the suggestions given by you. I will make sure that the context is not in the form of an opinion, would re-structure the content like an encyclopedia flow and then re-submit for approval. Please do not delete the article.

(talk page stalker)One of the obvious points, is that an encyclopedia article is NEVER written in second person. Another is that it is not meant to persuade; it is intended to dispassionately present information from impartial third parties. ==Orange Mike | Talk 11:32, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Article for David Eeles

The thing is, like windrush, it is quite difficult to establish notable references as you call them for this potter, I have applied to the crafts council and the crafts association archives on the matter, david eeles was a potter of note, he is mentioned in many books, I have started reference these, haven't I? He is deeply respected by potters who were more a part of the 'establishment' but because of his views was not a significant part of the establishment, let me tell you, he worked in the 17th century tradition, a potter who lived where he worked and the family were involved, this is a dying tradition, probably gone now, it needs to be recorded as such, my article is in its early stages and I have not sandboxed which I can see now is one of those mistakes that newbies make, can someone not help me please with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 16:19, 5 June 2018 (UTC) julia michell — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs) 16:24, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

I have every sympathy for your plight, I am well aware of David Eeles, I am also a potter and have written at least twenty Wikipedia articles on fellow potters including Micheal Cardew, William Staite Murray, Colin Pearson (potter) and Walter Keeler (studio potter), take a look at them for an idea of the sort of sources required. The problem is that we only report on what reliable sources say about a subject, David Eeles's own website is a primary source so can't be used, other links you have used, are commercial links to buy books these are also no good. Wikipedia requires in depth coverage in independent sources, like newspaper articles, books and magazines. I will see what I can find. All good wishes. Theroadislong (talk) 16:30, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
I have added a coupe of reliable sources, please remember that every statement of fact in an article needs to be supported by a source which confirms it, other wise it is original research which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 16:40, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

using a book as reference

Please could you advise me on how to use a book as a reference

Also, I am just not sure if I am understanding the signature protocol, if you could check this for me please or be a bit more explicit if I got it wrong I would be grateful, I have read the advice but still don't get it sorry (juliamichell 22:21, 5 June 2018 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliamichell (talkcontribs)

Why did you edit my sandbox talk page? My name is Tom Miller, who are you? WildBullMiller (talk) 08:52, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

You submitted your sandbox for review as a draft article, I declined it as it doesn't appear to be suitable as an article. Theroadislong (talk) 08:59, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

David Eeles, studio potter, referencing

Yes I see entirely what you mean about referencing and thank you if you can get hold of anything yourself. The Studio was of course the magazine of the arts and crafts so this is good no?

Then the Walking Ware book as you have agreed

There are a couple of other books he is mentioned in, I have cited 2 I think

There is a souvenir booklet from the Dartington Crafts convention thingy in 1977, I have asked Ilfracombe University who hold the crafts thingy archives now if they could email me a copy

So those other sources I shall need to take out, I have re submitted it already, what can I do please so it does not get rejected again?

I have also asked Simon Eeles if he has a list of exhibtions and and if David's work is in any permanent collections, it must be?

I am so sorry for not using the sandbox and going straight into the article I do hope you will all forgive me

Many thanks for your help so far

Also, I now get the signature thing so please ignore my previous request for clarification, thank you

What Wikipedia requires is in-depth coverage not passing mentions, the other possible sources are not suitable as they are primary sources. It would stand a better chance of being accepted if it was shorter and well referenced, we just need the plain dry facts, with no original research or opinions. Thank you for your feedback. I was wondering if you have specific suggestions for my draft?

-Eddieeagle08 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddieeagle08 (talkcontribs) 20:43, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

The usual advice is to forget everything you know about the subject, collect as many independent sources as possible and report on what they say about the subject, we are not interested in what the school has to say about itself. Theroadislong (talk) 20:48, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

hell sir/ ma'am I had created a page related to a govt organisation, Government polytechnic college umaria. i am training and placemnt officer in that office. I am not able to submit references. kindly tell me how to submit reference so that i can successfully create the page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yogace (talkcontribs) 06:25, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject if there are no sources then we cannot have an article, you also need to read WP:COI. Theroadislong (talk) 11:45, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the info

For the bio, is Nicholas Kaufmann's official website a good enough source? That's where the info comes from, anyway. Smacleod2 (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2018 (UTC)SMacleod2 No it isn' I'm afraid. We need independent sources not his own websites to establish notability. Articles on Wikipedia must be adequately supported by reliable sources so that information can be verified. We only summarise what reliable, independent published sources have to say about a subject. If there are no such sources then we cannot have an article. B&R Rig Edits

Hello, I'm a new contributor to Wikipedia and I wanted to ask you about edits you made to the B&R Rig artlicle. Several of the edits were to remove external links from the body of the article. FromWikipedia:External_links

Besides those kinds of links listed in § Restrictions on linking, these external-link guidelines do not apply to citations to reliable sources within the body of the article. (Emphasis in original)

Given that the external links substantiate the assertions the article is making and are reliable sources, for example that the boat model incorporates the B&R Rig, aren't the links appropriate? Thanks, Sean

The links would need to be formatted as references, though some of the content I removed links from were already sourced to a reference so they would be superfluous. Theroadislong (talk) 17:30, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Confusion on cite material - Myles Clohessy

Hello Theroadisong,

I am Antony A Ware and I am the person that drafted and submitted the article for Myles Clohessy several times. I've taken all of the critiques and have altered the page to the things that you are stating. Many of the articles and cites that I have listed more than fully focus on Myles. There are extra articles that also note his work, but the last comment you submitted stated that cites should not merely reference the subject. Again, many of the links point to areas that focus on Myles. I'm trying desperately to get this published and I'm not understanding why I am receiving so much apprehension. Is there anyway that you can help me with understanding which articles are not working? I can easily remove those and there would still be enough reference for the article submitted. If there is anything you can do to help me in this area, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review all that I have submitted.

Disruptive editing

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I've only just seen your messages. I believe the information I have added to these pages is a plain statement of fact. It does not include a call to action (which is inherently part of any promotion or advertising). There is, on other pages, similar information about galleries which house commercial works of art, so I am not sure how this differs. I am not connected to the gallery in question, either. I'm struggling to understand how this breaches Wikipedia's guidelines, but will certainly desist if that can be satisfactorily demonstrated to me.

I appreciate your contacting me, as I have no wish to undermine Wikipedia.

SteveWilde — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteveWilde (talkcontribs) 14:29, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Your only edits to Wikipedia are all connected to the Maddox Gallery, there might be a case for mentioning the gallery but only if it is supported by secondary independent sources, otherwise it just looks like spamming. Theroadislong (talk) 14:59, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
Entire billion-pound advertising campaigns have been conducted without a "call to action" in them. They focus on name recognition or shaping consumers' feelings about something... which seem to be the theme of these edits. While there are no doubt other examples of these kinds of promotional "statements of fact" that haven't been noticed, that does not make these (or those) appropriate. Even in the unlikely event that a random person has taken a singular interest in adding information advantageous to a particular business to Wikipedia with no personal or professional motivation for it, those edits still need to hold up to scrutiny from other editors, and an onslaught of "some of this artist's work is for sale at ____"... does not. -Jason A. Editorial feedback

Hey there!! I just wanted to reach out and get feedback just as I can't quite see where edits are up to. I recently updated and resubmitted the page I have been working on - https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:John_Steven_Novak Just went in to check the update / status and the last I can see is your signature with edits on the page..but I don't know if edits were made or you were letting me know what edits need to be made? If you could let me know what you need me to do as the next step that would be greatly appreciated just as I'm not sure what the next step is from here.. Thanks!! RebeccaRebecca J Mason (talk) 08:58, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

If you look at the article history (view history) you can see that I made a few copy edits, I removed some weird capitalisation and linking of common words etc. it has been commented by another user that it reads like a paid for advertisement. Theroadislong (talk) 09:16, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Help with NPOV

Hello! I could really use help figuring out how to get my draft: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Arise_music_festival approved. I have several reliable sources and I don't feel like it reads as an advertisement at all, but that is the feedback I have received after multiple edits and re-submissions. Is there any more specific information you can provide to help me get this article approved?

Thank you! Beccalyn137 (talk) 17:04, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

The tone is totally inappropriate for example "unleashed the annual Colorado-based festival that encourages its attendees to participate in activism, yoga, discussion, music, and community", "Drawing on experience from other festivals, the two promoters brought elements like healing and wisdom villages, a bonfire, art cars, performers and more to the camping and music festival". "A Shower Oasis is available onsite for a fee, there is a Star Bar Coffee Shop, food trucks, and other types of vendors set up around the festival.' this is all just promotional marketing puffery, the draft also includes a long list of past line ups which is not required.Do you have any connection to the festival by any chance? Theroadislong (talk) 17:57, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Ok, I see what you are saying, and yes I have attended the festival for the past four years and have referenced my very slight COI on my page. I will work on cleaning this up. I feel that a lot of the coverage on this festival includes similar language, so I am struggling to find sources with less promotional sounding language. Also, I looked at another music festival's entry for guidance and found this on Okeechobee, which seems to be quite inappropriate for Wikipedia: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Okeechobee_Music_%26_Arts_Festival. What are your thoughts on that article? I appreciate your help! Beccalyn137 (talk) 20:31, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

I have cleaned that article up a bit thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 20:36, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Thank you again. I am removing the promotional language in the ARISE article. Do I have to take out the past lineup lists for it to be accepted? Beccalyn137 (talk) 22:19, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Desjardins Insurance

Hello Theroadislong. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Desjardins Insurance, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I added some references, and it is likely that notability can be established for a big insurance company like this one. Thank you. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 20:28, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Reviewed page

Hello, you recently reviewed a page that I wrote about an author/politician/businessman and declined to accept it into the Wikipedia database - I was wondering if there might be anything that I need to change/add to the article in order to get it published, as I do believe that this is a significant figure (especially in the world of organizational/behavioral academia, as is suggested by his contributions to the PMBOK). What can I do to get this article published in Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isaacdjacobson (talkcontribs) 20:56, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Your draft Draft:Tres Roeder has only two references neither of which even mention him, ALL content needs to be sourced. In order to demonstrate notability, you need to provide references to articles written about Tres Roeder in unrelated, independent journals, magazines, books, etc. Good luck. Hello Theroadislong. The Sumaira Foundation for NMO

Hello,

I recently submitted the page "The Sumaira Foundation for NMO" and you denied it on the principle that it was not neutral, and the sources were produced by The Sumaira Foundation.

I am confused as to what sources were produced by the foundation, since none of the citations or hyperlinks were in any way affiliated in a non-neutral standpoint with the foundation. The articles linked simply talked about the foundation, but were not created by it.

I would really appreciate some feedback since this was a neutral page creation. Template:Aliaalchalbi (talk · contribs) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aliaalchalabi (talkcontribs) 17:43, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

Lifi Publications notability tag

Hey

I noticed you put a tag for checking the general notability guideline. I have added more citations, authors and award to strengthen it.

Harsh7agl (talk) 05:02, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello Theroadislong,

You said : "Her father maybe notable but no evidence that savannah is yet?"

In fact she is notable, she is part of the musician group The Trishas and she is an actress in several movies and a current serie. She also has a facebook page, Instragam and twitter account and an Imdb page. There is also articles from notable newspapers that I linked with the draft.

Thanks to reconsider the draft.

Good day,

Mimine-xyz (talk) 14:58, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Having a Facebook page, Instagram Twitter account and an Imdb page has no bearing whatsoever on her notability the whole world has these? You need to establish notability by adding references that show there is widespread coverage of her in reliable sources. Theroadislong (talk) 15:00, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Margot Horspool draft article

Thank you for your kind comment about my draft article on Prof. M. Horspool. You are right about the lack of sources. The problem is that I have only the personal information given about her on her big book, and online by OUP. The other surce of information about her is the obituary of her husband in The Telegraph. The rest is just what I have heard as a postgrad student in London - like her being Dutch etc - not a very good source I am afraid. Maybe I should delete them? Thanks again. refs Norbert Küpper

Hello and thanks for your support. Sorry, I am not really expierenced in writing articles for wikipedia. Regarding above topic you say the sources are raised by Küpper. I understand what you say! Beside that these sources tell the official work he is doing. For example an article which is published in The Guardian might be valid to prove the background of Küpper. Also an european congress which is visited by the top heads of newspapers in europe with a history of 20 years should be an indicator that this person is real and of public interest. Nethertheless I see your point. But it is hard to get other sources as Küpper is working with newspapers and of course is himself writing about newspapers and his work more than the newspapers about him. I wrote the same article in german wikipedia where these sources are accepted. Maybe you can help the get result even in english wiki. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mziegle (talkcontribs) 11:51, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

RESPONSE from Tero111

There is an article on birds of Nebraska in Wikipedia

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_birds_of_Nebraska

The external link goes to the NOU website, the organization my article was about. The state has a population of less than 2 million, but from an ornithological point of view is an interesting location between the East and West. The two links I provided improve the Wuikipedia reader's access to reliable information about the state. The effort is run by volunteers, so that the presence of birders and volunteers is never going to be the same level as "birds of Costa Rica" where endeless books and articles exist. However, the small effort here in Nebraska (I live here) is in no way insignificant. Yes, the average user is going to find my information with Google, but does Wikipedia want to push all the curious to go the Google route? Tero111 (talk) 13:46, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

In order to demonstrate notability, you need to provide multiple references to in-depth articles written about the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union in unrelated, independent journals, magazines, books or online. If there are no other sources then we can’t have an article. Theroadislong (talk) 13:51, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Clarification

Hello there,

I am new to using Wikipedia and am having trouble with posting an article about my client, a film, television and theatre actress.

I saw you left a comment stating that IMDb is not a reliable source of information. Any chance you could help me understand how one would cite original personal information such as her biography and filmography? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

(2020visions (talk) 17:14, 29 June 2018 (UTC))

First you need to read WP:COI, Wikipedia is not a venue for promoting your client. IMDb is not a reliable source for establishing notability. We only summarise what reliable, independent published sources have to say about a subject. If there are no such sources then we cannot have an article. Theroadislong (talk) 17:24, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Many thanks. He's certainly worth an article and I don't think the author's seeking to promote him, just proud of his student's considerable achievements. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 21:26, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Dear Theroadislong,

Thank you for reviewing my article. I did my best to add the missing references for the article and I removed the blog entry you mentioned. It would be great if you could let me know if the references are now up to Wikipedia standards or if they need further improvement.

Thank you. I appreciate your help. I hope I have succeeded in sorting out the references now. With regard to COI I should state that Ian Firth was one of my students in the 1970s but there is no COI. I have followed his career at a distance. We are still acquainted since we are both Fellows of the same professional organisation and have been honoured to be former Presidents but there is no other technical, commercial or business relationship. There is no question of remuneration or other type of reward. I have striven to make the biography of Firth objective and unbiased. Firth is, as you say, eminently notable as a structural engineer and bridge designer. We are both SME or domain experts in structural engineering due to our professional qualifications and experience.
