Hello, CambridgeBayWeather,

I was looking at the Deletion Log and saw you took care of a lot of files labeled CSD F8, or ones that were sitting in categories in Category:Wikipedia files with the same name on Wikimedia Commons. I don't work much with files and am frankly intimidated by the list of factors that the instructions say one needs to check before deleting a file for really any speedy deletion criteria. And yet, I frequently see bulk deletion of these files by different administrators. Am I taking the instructions too literally or do admins actually perform these thorough checks before carrying out deletion? Since I review the log, it's a question I've had for a while and since you just cleaned out these categories, I'm hoping you can fill me in on the process.

Many thanks and I hope 2024 is starting off well for you! Liz Read! Talk! 23:03, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For the Category:Wikipedia files with the same name on Wikimedia Commons I open the file on here and quickly check it out and remember to scroll down the page to see the information. If it's user uploaded then easy enough. Just make sure it's on Commons and has the same tags as here and shows the same uploader.
If it's a file like File:TheKominskyMethod.png that relies on being simple enough to not be copyrighted I look to see if another editor has reviewed it. If so then just make sure it's on Commons and has the same tags as here and shows the same uploader. If it hasn't been reviewed then you need to check it out. There were a bunch of Lego files that I had to double check earlier. The File:LEGO logo.svg is OK on Commons but I also had to check that File:Indiana Jones logo.svg was OK before I deleted the local File:Lego Indiana Jones logo.png.
With different names on Commons you have to check and see if the local file is being used and if it is then do this. But it's the same process.
The first few times I did this it did take much longer, and I found it intimidating, but after a while you can quickly see if there are differences in the pages. The main thing is if you make a mistake don't dig your heels in and everything can be reversed.
Happy New Year. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 23:31, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information. I have my plate full of tasks I handle so I doubt that I will do any work with files but it's nice to know how to proceed.
I noticed that the latest category, Category:Wikipedia files with the same name on Wikimedia Commons as of 12 January 2024 has a huge number of files if you are looking for a project to take on. Liz Read! Talk! 23:18, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page Protection Request for Ashok Swain

[edit]

Hi,

The Wikipedia page of Ashok Swain might benefit from protection. I raised a request and it appears the response was a 'd.' Maybe that means it was 'denied.'

Can you take a look at the page history where one editor seems to be persistent one single point. Seems like vandalism.

https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Ashok_Swain&action=history AltruisticHomoSapien (talk) 18:15, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at this it's quite obvious that it was declined because it's a content dispute and not vandalism. Dennis Brown didn't respond with "d" in either his reply, only in the edit summary. You should read replies rather than relying on edit summaries. I'm not protecting it either. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 15:41, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I am making this request here is that I came across Diana Buttu's page.

Page move of Joban Pagi

Just an FYI, I was cleaning up an SPI case and saw you moved Joban Pagi (dacoit) to Joban Pagi two days ago. That overrode a salted page title, the sockpuppet was trying to sneak their article back into Article space. The WordsmithTalk to me 20:37, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Polarised Big Bang Hypothesis

[edit]

Hello

Back in 2007 you deleted my contribution entitled "Polarised Big Bang Hypothesis". Somewhat new to contributing to Wikipedia at that time, I published the page in the wrong place, i.e. the live site rather than the 'sandpit' that I thought I was working with. I have now found a safe area to continue developing the page and wondered if you could remove the delete please? Bwallum (talk) 09:26, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I checked and there were two versions Polarised Big Bang Hypothesis and Polarised Big Bang hypothesis. I restored both and merged together. They are at Draft:Polarised Big Bang hypothesis. That's really bizarre as I certainly didn't write the article. On cheching I see that my name is the first one associated with it but as a move from Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens (Nepal).
This gets stranger. The first time I checked the history there was no edits prior to this move that I made. Not sure what to do, but you made a mistake and I probably compounded it

[edit]

From 1928 to 1942 there were two airlines, *BOTH* called Canadian Colonial Airways. One was American - the parent. The other was Canadian, the 100% subsidiary.

Yes, the US corporation, a US airline, was confusing called Canadian Colonial Airways, Inc. The Canadian was the same name, except "Limited" rather than "Incorporated".

In 1942 two things happened - the Canadian version died and the US version was renamed Colonial Airlines.

In the official record, the Canadian company is distinguished by being called "Limited".

I was in the middle of adding references when you moved "Canadian Colonial Airways, Limited" to "Canadian Colonial Airways". But that is not where it should be located. "Canadian Colonial Airways", despite the name, the more prominent of the two related companies was the American version, which survived until 1956 under the name (from 1942) of "Colonial Airlines".

Yes, this is confusing. But the historical record is clear.

So, "Canadian Colonial Airways" properly should be a redirect to "Colonial Airlines". There should be a separate article for the Canadian version of the company. I am open to suggestions to what to call the article that refers to the Canadian version of the company, but "Canadian Colonial Airways" needs to point to "Colonial Airlines".

So, when I tried saving the references, it told me you had moved the article. I saved over the article, which is probably not the right thing to do, but I didn't want to lose my work. Enplaned (talk) 18:57, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Then the Canadian version should have moved to Canadian Colonial Airways (Canada) (and I can move it there), which is the standard naming convention. Wikipedia does not normally us things like "limited" or "incorporated" (or their contractions) to disambiguate between companies. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 19:11, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would appreciate that. Thank you.
"Canadian Colonial Airways, Limited" should then be deleted - no need for it.
"Canadian Colonial Airways" should redirect to "Colonial Airlines"
FYI, there is also a "Colonial Airlines (Canada)" article that I have put a deletion notice on. There never was such an airline, and the article is an incomplete duplicate of the article for "Colonial Airlines". The small amount of info in the "Colonial Airlines (Canada)" article is nonsensical.
Thank you again Enplaned (talk) 19:29, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. It's done. If Canadian Colonial Airways, Limited is how sources refer to it then it works as a valid redirect. You might wan't to check Pages that link to "Canadian Colonial Airways" to see which should be changed to Canadian Colonial Airways (Canada) and which should link to the US article. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 19:42, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YLP/CYLP

[edit]

Hi CBW. Since you did a lot of work on Canadian airports, I have to ask you about Mingan Airport. There is no info at all about this airport, nothing in List of airports in Canada, nor in List of defunct airports in Canada. According to List of airports by IATA airport code: Y, it had the YLP and CYLP codes, and photos on Commons confirm that it existed (see Commons:Category:Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan). What's going on here? Did it have another name? Very peculiar, considering how complete airport info is on WP. Thanks for any info. -- P 1 9 9   02:56, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was added by Zyxw way back here I looked in the Canada Flight Supplement and there is no listing for CYLP or Mingan in either the current or abandoned sections. I checked https://plan.navcanada.ca/wxrecall/ and typing in CYLP gives and error messages. Searching just shows the usual spam. Flightradar24 can't find the airport.
I finally went to the Mingan article and followed the coordinates. Take a look at 50°17′05.66″N 64°08′41.18″W / 50.2849056°N 64.1447722°W / 50.2849056; -64.1447722 (Mingan Airport) and there is the hanger in the pictures. The taxiway is visible and so are two runways. One is 12/30 and the other is 06/24. There are some buildings to the east of the hanger and the one with the blue roof looks to have a couple of vehicles outside. However, I suspect that it is a long abandoned aerodrome. But not so old as to appear on the List of British Commonwealth Air Training Plan facilities in Canada. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 13:28, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I figured it is abandoned, but judging from the state of the buildings, not abandoned extremely long ago (unless the buildings were maintained for other purposes). Regardless, WP info on abandoned airports is also fairly extensive, but strangely, missing any info on this one. So, its code was probably not YLP/CYLP, and likely, it operated under a name we don't know. How can we find out? -- P 1 9 9   18:07, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect that it was abandoned before 2005 as that when I joined Wikipedia. If it was in the current section of the CFS I would have added it in 2005 / 2006. Ahunt may have some ideas. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 18:23, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your ping on this. I am not really active on en.wikipedia at the present, so lucky that I saw this. I am easier to get on Commons these days! I found Mingan Que listed as "abandoned" in the CFS edition from 27 March 1997 (good thing I kept that!) and located at N50 17 W64 09 which looks like an abandoned aerodrome to me! That is all I have. - Ahunt (talk) 23:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I thought my former supervisor was a hoarder. Thanks. That's the information needed. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 23:52, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just goes to show you: old books are useful! - Ahunt (talk) 01:00, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The YLP code still shows as Mingan Airport on the IATA website ([1]). So the code is valid. Although I can't find enough info for a stand-alone article, I will add it as an entry at List of airports in Quebec and List of defunct airports in Canada. Regards, -- P 1 9 9   14:37, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for reverted page move unclear

[edit]

Hello CambridgeBayWeather! You have reverted the move of Dea Matrona (mythology) back to Dea Matrona. I've made this diambiguation as I think it's necessary in order not to be confused with the rock band of the same name - Dea Matrona (band).

Could you please explain the reasoning behind this revert? I've seen much confusion between fans of the band on this. If I made some mistake in the diambiguation word, I'd appreciate if you'd let me know.

Thanks in advance and have a good day! Fjrbaeta (talk) 14:59, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If Dea Matrona is a redirect to Dea Matrona (mythology) then it is obvious that it's the primary article. If people looking for the band are typing in Dea Matrona then they are still ending up at the goddess so nothing is gained. The hat not at the top of the page is sufficient. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 15:13, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I disambiguated Dea Matrona to Dea Matrona (mythology) precisely to solve the problem of the main article, which according to Wikipedia standards shouldn't exist if two pages have the same topic name. Just the name change and redirect help avoid some confusion even if just of people who mistakingly end up on the mythology page.
What you may argue is that the main page should instead be an exclusive disambiguation page with links to both the mythology and the rock band. If this specific case warrants such a solution, I'll be happy to create the disambiguation page and perform the moves, but in my opinion, reverting the move does not solve anything.
That being said, should I create an exclusive disambiguation page for Dea Matrona in this case? Fjrbaeta (talk) 22:39, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Having looked at the page views (Matrona and Dea Matrona (band)) I think it could be argued that the band should occupy the undisambiguated title. Especially as some of the people who landed on the Dea Matrona page were really looking for the band.
I would suggest that you open a discussion at Talk:Dea Matrona (band) about moving it to Dea Matrona and Dea Matrona to the (mythology) disambiguation. See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Controversial for the instructions and there is a section Wikipedia:Requested moves/Controversial#Requesting multiple page moves. Cheers CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 23:22, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I agree with the decision of moving Dea Matrona (band) to the disambiguated title, was not aware of the difference in page views. I have added the topic to the Dea Matrona (band) talk page and will wait for objections before going ahead with the page moves. Thanks for your guidance on this issue. Cheers! Just a heads up, users creating user pages with {{retired}} and replacing the edit with a {{db-u1}} is usually a sign of someone blindly following wikihow's (crap) advice on how to vanish. Cabayi (talk) 09:04, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Inuktut (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". [edit]

Hello,

You just blocked me on Yasuke page for no reasons .

I was just deleting sources that use Wikipedia info that was written in those sources.

Tell me what my edit is about soapbox or promotion whatever?

And why other users are not banned due to heavy and insistent editing for their soapbox and promotion for Yasuke media content?

Shinjitsunotsuikyu (talk) 11:25, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Things like It is all wishful speculation by black-samurai-believers., Foreigners are delusionary romanticizing Yasuke just because he served this big-shot samurai in Japan., As a Japanese, we feel that our history is getting falsified by foreign delusional Yasuke fans who just want a samurai title for a part of some BLM movement or something., is the source of all these delusional nonsense of Yasuke. and "Many Japanese feel that foreigners are trying to falsifying our history and culture" and others make it seem that you are too involved to edit neutrally. Greensleeves

[edit]

HI - and apologies for contacting you directly. I note that you're an occasional contributor to the Greensleeves thread. I've reverted (twice now) a post from a new poster who's insisting on changing the text because it can't definitely be proved that Henry VIII didn't write Greensleeves. It can, they're just not listening.

I don't want to revert a third time. Any advice? David T Tokyo (talk) 10:03, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have started a new section at Talk:Greensleeves#Henry VIII yet again. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 10:57, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, many thanks for your help in setting up the discussion on Henry VIII and Greensleeves. I don't know if you've been following it but I've reached the limit of my patience with SpamFritterBitter - it's clear to me that he's content just to argue without ever providing any form of backup to the points he's making. I'm not sure how to take it further from here - could you decide on the issue or do I have to escalate the issue up elsewhere.? David T Tokyo (talk) 17:18, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Talk Page

[edit]

Hi there,

I requested speedy deletion of User talk:Myrealnamm/Archive 1 because I was trying to set up a different archiving period (and therefore re-inserted the archived content onto my normal talk page). Sorry if this led to confusion to any admins! Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 18:08, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NunatuKavut

[edit]

I see your user name in this topic but I noticed that the (admittedly a bit debatable) page for Canadian Inuit now has NunatuKavuy individuals listed while people like John Amagoalik and Lori Idlout are not present. I don’t know all the Wiki-ins and outs and you are very much the old timer in Wikipedia for Nunavut - so what is your advice, should I venture into some edits here or is the battleground too technical. In the past when I attempted I seem to have achieved very little and been put on blast by people with technical Wiki knowledge I wasnt able to match. Northfolk (talk) 21:06, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't really edited List of Canadian Inuit in a while. I've had a bit of pushback on NunatuKavut and Todd Russell, to the point that his article is protected and another editor getting blocked of the NunatuKavut article. Looking at the list I think that it could use a expansion. I would add in the land claims area that they are from, Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, and NunatuKavut. I would also add {{NoteTag}} to people like Russell pointing out that their status is disputed. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 22:16, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blofeld

[edit]

Hi, it's been a very long time since I've uploaded there! I think there was an issue with my account renaming in the past, that's why it didn't match the name on English wiki. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:05, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here's my question then. Back in 2010 you uploaded https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Location_map_Canada_Baffin_Island.png which I didn't realise existed until recently. I have used it a few times, but when I did https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Piling_Bay&oldid=1243640529 I discovered that it is slightly off. Is there an easy way to fix it? Thansk. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 20:13, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps Plastikspork or Markussep can help.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:08, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Plastikspork or Markussep any suggestions to the above problem. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 14:54, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The map template uses the coordinates given in Module:Location map/data/Canada Baffin Island. They are the same as the coordinates given in the image file description. Perhaps you can check using known points on the map whether these coordinates are correct. Markussep Talk 17:14, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The coordinates on Module:Location map/data/Canada Baffin Island lead to Prince Charles Island, which is west of Baffin Island. Look at where it shows Piling Bay compared to where it should be. Check out Iqaluit, a coastal city, but it appears inland in the article. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 19:12, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Several things could be wrong, for instance the north-south orientation of the map image could be off, or one or more of the edge coordinates given in the module file could be incorrect, or the problem is caused by the projection used in the map image, which can lead to big distortions this far north. I am not familiar with the geography of Baffin Island, so I can't help you any further. Markussep Talk 10:49, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks for taking a look. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 14:54, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Frietjes has helped me fix maps in the past, so she might be able to help. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:07, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
if you can give me a few corresponding points on the map (i.e., coordinates and pixel locations in the image) I can try to compute the coordinates of the edges. I tried to do this myself, but it's hard because the only geographic features are coastal and it's not easy find a precise point. my suggestion would be to regenerate the map from a known map with a known transformation. Frietjes (talk) 15:37, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are these aerodromes any use? They are all sourced and centred on the middle of the runway. Mary River Aerodrome is the only one not on the coast. Pangnirtung Airport, Kimmirut Airport, Iqaluit Airport, Clyde River Airport (looks a little off), and Pond Inlet Airport. There's Mount Thor, Nettilling Lake, and Tasiujarjuaq which are all sourced. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 16:34, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I missed the bit about pixel locations which I don't have. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 16:36, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Air Tractor

[edit]

After restoring a lot of deleted text (that an editor deleted because lacking citations) together with citations (that editor deleted first as not reliable), I was tired and just copy pasted several short paragraps from a source to literal blockquotes, because I didn't know how to rephrase without loosing meaning or bloating the contents in to many words. I tried first, but gave up and did a limited copy pasting to quotes. Thank you very much for fixing my mess by rephrasing that well.

What I intend when I find time next at the comp is to try to find other sources for inline citations, so the article wouldn't be to heavily single source dependent as it might seem at the moment, and get hit by another deletion run. For international use of Air Tractors, I intend to add citations about firefighting use of Air Tractors in several countries in Europe to the talk page first. That would probably also help fix the supposed lack of notability problem. Marjan Tomki SI (talk) 19:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates from Geographical Names Data Base

[edit]

I have noted that the coordinates given in the Geographical Names Data Base are often erroneous. For example, you changed the coordinates given in the article for Nain, Newfoundland and Labrador from a spot within the town to a spot about a mile away, outside the town. As with most things, primary sources such as poorly maintained government databases are not to be trusted on Wikipedia. (Some people might say, never even used, but certainly double-checked.) Abductive (reasoning) 07:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was using it based on a discussion that I can't find at the moment. It might be a good idea to bring this up at Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 14:52, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

PG climate data

[edit]

hi. i havent had time to do the sort of edits i used to, but i couldnt ignore the obvious bad data problem i found here. please either fix the information or if the src is corrupt move this box to th bottom, retaining only what we know is correct, and use the 1980-2010 as primary data. best wishes, Soap 10:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Soap I'm out of town and forgot my laptop. I'm not very proficient on my phone, so I'll look at it on Monday. If this is about Prince George's climate, I realised hat there are sourcing problems with maximum and minimum temperatures. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 12:31, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give me a little more detail as to what the problems were and what src is? The current version of the template has several errors based on 1981 to 2010 Canadian Climate Normals station data that is used as a source.
  1. The humidex for June is shown as 38.4 but is unsourced and looks like a guess from the unsourced max temp
  2. The max temperature for June is unsourced but there is a source available
  3. The max for March does not match the source but is from the 1991-2020 data
  4. The max for November does not match the source but is from the 1991-2020 data
  5. Wind chill's are given to one decimal place and don't match the source but are taken from the 1991-2020 data
I've double checked and the figures I put in for 1991-2020 match the source.
By the way before I updated the template to the Canadian Climate Normals 1991-2020 Data the Prince George article included the Sewage Treatment Plant. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:30, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well, the Mean daily maximum °C (°F) row was almost identical to the average row. i didnt look for little things, but having a big mistake such as that seems to throw the whole table in doubt. Best regards, Soap 19:22, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
src was just my word for source when im in a hurry. Soap 19:22, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox airline

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you recently edited Template:Infobox airline. However, one part of your edit made one of the displayed field names untidy. Can you please add an additional pipe separator for 'Parent company'. Also, can you please change the displayed field name of 'Callsign' to 'call sign' (it is two separate words according to Cambridge Dictionary, and other dictionaries, and is not a proper noun, so no need to capitalise its first letter) - this specific change will then match the displayed output for Template:Airline codes. Thanks and best regards. Militum professio scriniarii (talk) 01:06, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like I screwed up with the parent company pipe. I also changed "Callsign" to "Call sign". and changed the link to Aviation call signs#Commercial airline as it seems the best of the three possibilities. Airline codes#Call signs (flight identification or flight ID) and Aircraft registration are the other two. I see that it was originally one word, and is sometimes given as a synonym, the major use is two words. While it's not a proper noun I believe that a capital is warranted. It is operating as the first word in a sentence and as such should be capitalised. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 16:06, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Please could you restore this and let the RfD discussion take its course. Neither being derogatory nor not being mentioned in the current target are, in and of themselves, violations of BLP - especially when we do have directly relevant content elsewhere (that multiple people proposed to retarget to). If it were actually an actionable BLP issue there would not have been multiple comments in favour of not deleting it, and some of those who do favour deletion would have mentioned it. Thryduulf (talk) 19:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Two comments that wanted to re-target to an article where context was given. I still think it is a BLP and the default should be delete or context in his article for the term be provided. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 19:53, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship on Whigfield

[edit]

Hello,

You have been contacted requesting help to remove content from Whigfield. The Page has been "extended protected" by a user, in order to not have the content restored. The information that has been removed is relevant and is included in other Wikipedia articles and other language versions of the Page. Previously, COI has been reported, and many removals of information have happened. Therefore, I think that this particular protection is ill-intentioned and I believe that the erased content should be restored before protecting the Page, in order to include the relevant information, improve the article and avoid censorship motivated by COI.

Thank you, Fixfxx (talk) 23:32, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:11, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
