You reverted a change by Aluisios on Barney & Friends...removing a comma in a date. I thought commas belonged in dates--(April 6, 1992) instead of (April 6 1992). Am I wrong? Should I be removing commas when I see them? Gladys J Cortez 17:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recalibrated Location_map_CanadaGeo based on 8 points

[edit]

21-Feb-2008: I have recalibrated the CanadaGeo map-spec template to align the markers correctly (see: Template_talk:Location_map_CanadaGeo). My phone line went dead in a rainstorm here, but I was able later to update the map settings. Sorry, for leaving the former impression that Canada cannot be mapped in Wikipedia; I want to assure you, that yes, Template:Location map polarx really can "do the impossible" and place latitude/longitude markers on those complex, real-world conic projection maps: I eventually derived the mapping formulas mathematically, to align over precise locations for most of the visible map. Due to the underlying mathematical precision, it is more likely for a particular map to have a slight graphical inaccuracy, than for the marker to miscalculate the latitude/longitude. Again, I apologize for giving the impression that complex maps cannot be handled: it does work, despite the massive, mindnumbing complexity.
Remember to set "lon_shift=4.1" to compensate for the vertical-meridian (-90) as not being in the center of the map image. -Wikid77 (talk) 19:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I finally completed the copy right permissions as per your request. I completed it once before incorrectly causing this delay! I have added the copyright details to the qiniq talk page as is suggested but I thought I would mention this to you as well in case you are able to confirm the OTRS submission that I submitted and get the content for this page back up. The title to the message I sent to the OTRS was: [Fwd: Re: Wikipedia Copyright Authorization]

I have not received a trouble ticket number back, I use OTRS at work so not getting this concerns me, it should be automated. This is in relation to the content that you temporarily removed from: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Qiniq

Hope you can assist. Charwalker (talk) 19:52, 22 February 2008 (UTC)charwalker[reply]

"Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport" article broken link

[edit]

I thought you could help because you have edited that article a lot. I posted my question on the discussion page for that article, but I'll copy and paste it below too.

From the article discussion page:

___________________________________________________________

Broken Link! (7 Future Section)

[edit]

I found a new link for the broken link to the GTAA Planning Document .pdf file at the bottom of the page, but I am not sure if the page number references still apply. It looks like the version I found is just a lower resolution pdf than the one originally cited; I can't be sure though, since I can't find the original document.

old link: http://www.gtaa.com/%5CDocuments%5Ccorporate%5CPickeringAirportDraftPlanReportHiRes.pdf

new link: http://www.gtaa.com/local/files/en/PickeringAirportDraftPlanReport.pdf

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell who originally added those references? Maybe that person would be able to find the new page numbers to go with the new link?

If not, here is an example of the problem I had relating the new document to the old one without the old one as a reference. For example, the wiki article currently cites page 6, but the pages on the new version are numbered i, ii, iii, not including the title page until chapter 1 begins, at which point they are numbered 1:1, 1:2, 1:3.. until chapter 2, where they are 2:1, 2:2, etc.. Page 1:6 is blank. There is no page vi (6) in the intro section, however if you begin numbering at page 1, as Adobe pdf reader does, page 6 corresponds to page v of the document, which is titled "Foreword," not a blank page.

Anyway, I'm not really a pro at this, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Jalirpa (talk) 14:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC) ___________________________________________________________[reply]

Conrad Black

[edit]

I have decided to revert your revert. You are vandalising the entry for Upper Canada College (re Conrad Black). I have reviewed your NUMEROUS edits, and I see that you are a serial vandaliser - simply reverting other people's edits. In this particular case, I suggest that you take the time to BOTHER to even investigate even the SURFACE of the man - hey, he's a convicted felon - due to report for a 6-1/2 year federal sentence starting Monday - convicted for fraud (just go look at his Wikipedia entry, idiot - DUH!!!!.*

Anyway, I am going to keep a watch on you, and if you continue your conduct, them I am going to randomly go down your list of edits and reverse them. This is a warning to you - DO NOT JUST REVERSE EDITS ON ENTRIES WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SIMPLY BECAUSE OF YOUR PREJUDICES.

It is people like you that make Wikipedia worthless - you are trash, and YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.139.97 (talk) 14:12, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very old deletion

[edit]

Hi! About a year ago, you deleted an bio I'd written under my previous username, that of Don Laughlin. I can assure you that Mr. Laughlin is slightly more than a "noted gambler." He founded the town of Laughlin, Nevada itself, is the founder and owner of the Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino (itself worthy of better article) as well as a major cattle ranch in Kingman, Arizona and regularly pumps millions of dollars into the local economy. In fact, he paid for the bridge at the north end of town which connects Laughlin with Bullhead City, Arizona. The town has an article; Mr. Laughlin's bio has a red link. I don't think that finding suitable third-party references will be a problem. I wrote that article before that edict was so strictly adhered to. Might I ask you to please restore this article so that I can add some third-party refs to it? Thanks. Best, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 08:18, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wow, talk about service...! Thank you! I need to get to bed (late on my side of the planet), but I'll address any issues the article may still have. Again, many, many thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 08:23, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, joy...somehow, I thought you were in England! Heck, you're only an hour ahead of me. I don't have to be at work until the afternoon, but I'm in need of heading off to stare at the backs of my eyelids. I'll find a couple of references before I do. Can't thank you enough for the help. Stay safe and stay awake.  :) Always a pleasure doing business with you. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 08:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Shehu ladan

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Shehu ladan, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Shehu ladan is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

Hay River

[edit]

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Most likely what happened is that I made a mistake of some kind when I was converting the radio stations list from the old format to the table — particularly given that the city said Kakisa but the station was listed between Hay River and Inuvik, and consequently separated from the other two Kakisa listings. And a Google search does confirm that it's a community station in Hay River; there are at least two CRTC license decisions for it. For obvious reasons, the fastest way to convert the radio lists is to cut and paste a completed table line and then change whatever has to be changed, so there's obvious potential for messing up every once in a while. And the reference source that we used to compile the radio lists (the radio lists at TVRadioWorld.com) can occasionally be wrong, too, in which case I'm invariably going to replicate any error of theirs that I can't personally identify as an error. So I've changed the listing.

CFMI is based in Vancouver, but the usual references state that it does have a fairly substantial network of rebroadcast transmitters serving communities in Northern BC and the Yukon. Bearcat (talk) 18:03, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan,

I understand your concern over the African topic template. The way it currently works is to link articles about people from different African countries together. That is not the main intention of the template. It should eventually work like Template:Africa topic. If you're not familiar with the Africa topic, the idea is you can place the template on any article and add something to the beginning (ex. "Fauna of", "HIV/AIDS in"), and then it automatically generates links to that topic for every African country. Unfortunately, this doesn't work when you want the articles to generate with the demonym starting off (ex. "African art", "African literature"). The African topic template is supposed to take care of that. Unfortunately, I don't know enough Wiki code in order to make it work properly. If you do, please feel free to make the appropriate changes! The other problem you mentioned about the consistency of articles to which demonyms redirect is an important issue as well. I am unsure as to which type of article is most appropriate. What do you think would be best?

TELUS Corporation

[edit]

Yeah, I've seen the MOS on trademarks - that user pointed it out to me too. My problem is the usage in the article isn't within the context of a trademark. What we're talking about is the legal name of the company, which is TELUS Corporation, not Telus Corporation. Any of the places where we'd source information to use as a reference in the article - the provincial securities commissions, the corporations branch of their home province, etc. - would reflect the name in that manner. Anyway, no particular vested interest - just seemed weird to me. Mlaffs (talk) 03:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the last 24 hours, an anonymous user decided to be bold and simply create a Wikiquote page with the same content. Since the article never went through the transwiki process, what should be done with it? Should I just blank it and turn it into a redirect? Or, is there some other process? Having never dealt with this issue, I felt I should get some guidance. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:51, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

African airport stub templates and categories

[edit]

Hi CBW - every now and again, I complain about someone making an unproposed stub template - or sometimes two or three unproposed stub templates. This is the first time I've ever had to say that anyone's created 56 unproposed stub types, plus five categories... As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Most of your new stub types are currently listed at WP:WSS/D, and two of them have been proposed for deletion or renaming - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for these stub types. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first - it'll save us a huge amount of work in future if you do! Grutness...wha? 01:19, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Before I created the stubs I checked through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting pages, to ensure that they followed the guidlines laid out there, but I found my self very disturbed by the amount of control the project is attempting to exert. I have nothing against the members and I am sure that the aims and goals of the project and the people involved with it are only trying to help Wikipedia. However, I find the idea of having to ask permission to edit is un-Wikipedia like. We trust editors to create articles, complex templates, categories and upload material, but to create a stub type, they have to ask permission. Do you not find it a bit strange that you need to ask permission (Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion/Log/2008/April/6) to delete a category, update nine templates and create the correct category?
I can understand your points, but believe me, there are good reasons why stub creation is a little more tied in red tape than other parts of Wikipedia. I don't find it strange at all, not when you consider that stub sorters have to try to keep some sort of organisation in a very complex system in order for it to work to the best advantage both of themselves and of editors in general. Unlike permanent categories, which are for the benefit of readers, stub categories are for the benefit of editors and as such have different requirements - including keeping them close to a "sweet spot" as far as size is concerned. As such, it's really necessary to confirm that any new categories will not be too small or too big to be of practical use - and it's also necessary to keep the people who actually sort stubs in the loop when it comes to the creation of new templates, otherwise many stubs will still be sorted using old, no-longer used templates. We laready have a major problem with many deprecated stub types having to be kept so as not to confuse anyone who sorts stubc asually and might expect an old, no-longer-used template to still be there. In the case of the categories you made, Category:African airport stubs was right close to the centre of the "sweet spot" at around 450 stubs, and the split of Africa by subregion is being slowly phased out where it is used elsewhere in the stub system, so the creation of these five new categories has caused a ittle concern. "Asking permission to edit" is not that uncommon in Wikipedia, BTW - many pages have restrictions on editing, and even the old watchword WP:BOLD has a note that it primarily applies to articles, and that categories and templates require more circumspection. And the size of the various deletion process pages is evidence that, while we may trust other editors to make pages, templates and the like, they don't always do it in a way that best suits Wikipedia. You deleted this article as A7 bio. However, there was an article that existed before it was created by some teenager in high-school. Looking at the deleted edits, the old article doesn't seem to be hugely notable, so I won't restore, but would you look at the article that was also there? Thanks. seresin ( ¡? ) 23:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was mostly taking about the news articles about his death from bbc. I'll look into it a bit more. seresin ( ¡? ) 23:42, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As a heads-up, I restored the old version of the article, since I personally don't feel it should be speedied, and has been around since 2005. seresin ( ¡? ) 04:50, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

templates for airport stubs

[edit]

Howdy; basically here because the BC airport stubs cat you created; this doesn't mean you created all those airport stubs, just popping by to comment that most of them don't have the {{WikiProject Canada|bc=yes|class=stub|importance=low}} template; I've put it on a few, starting at 'a' and over time whenever I drop by one (Nimpo Lake I remember doing); just wondering if there's a bot....Skookum1 (talk) 13:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Simple Plan/Vandalism. I only used it once, and it's never been used since. It was kind of a stupid idea looking back on it and kind of violates WP:BITE. Deleting it would be appreciated. Thanks! — Poe Joe (formerly Ian Lee) (Talk) 04:08, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and could you also please delete Wikipedia:WikiProject Simple Plan/Wait ubx as it's out of context now. It's only used by one retired user. Once again, thanks! — Poe Joe (formerly Ian Lee) (Talk) 04:12, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New change in WP:MOSISLAM

[edit]

Salam Alaykum

Two weeks ago I put a comment in the talk page of MOSISLAM and proposed using "The Prophet" in especial cases and about one weeks ago I changed WP:MOSISLAM [2]. Nobody protest or change my proposal. Thus I want to insert it in the related articles.--Seyyed(t-c) 23:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

I mistakenly created these two pages and wondered if you could delete them for me (I already moved them).

If you could, I'd really appreciate it! Blessings, AmericaNeedsJesus 03:52, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My, that was quick! Thanks, AmericaNeedsJesus 04:03, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The postal code and telephone exchanges for Dettah are the same as they are for Yellowknife; I've already put this info into the article. Sorry it took me so long to respond. Cheers! -YK Timestalk 01:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coffee and the environment article

[edit]

I made revisions to the external links to this article, which you reverted, which I changed back.

Previous links were to a birdwatching site (linked as "Bird Friendly" and an outdated coffee site.

I clarified that the "Bird Friendly" site was a birdwatching site; I added a link to the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center's "Bird Friendly" coffee web site. They are the research institution that first developed criteria for shade coffee, and have trademarked that term. The information there is has far more authority and depth than the former site. I have no affiliation with Smithsonian.

I then added a link to my site, Coffee & Conservation, which is an non-commercial account (albeit with some clickable ads) entirely about coffee and the environment. I am an ecologist, and provide references for all scientific material on the site, either through links or citations. As the Wikipedia article is at this time very brief (I will try to work on it myself as I find time), my site is a good source of information for readers, especially considering that the other link, Coffee Contact, has not been updated since 2001.

Not sure why these links were deleted, but this is why I updated them. -- Julie, coffeehabitat@gmail.com

Ranger disambiguation page

[edit]

Nice job! I was surprised to see a change of that size that wasn't a reversion. All across the board, that was a damn fine edit. If I cared about barn stars, I'd give you one. EvilCouch (talk) 01:19, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Land area vs water area

[edit]

Just curious about your 4th/5th in area edit re the British Columbia article - what's the water area? Lake surfaces, I'm guessing, or are offshore waters included? I'd think not the latter, although I suspect the Strait of Georgia might have been included (?); it would be a lot more than 2.9% of total if the claimed 200mi offshore limits are included; but then Nova Scotia and Newfoundland would be a lot larger, too, huh? Must be the lakes, then, and makes me wonder what the percentage was before all the big reservoirs got built (Hechako/Ootsa, Peace/Williston and the various Columbia reservoirs and a certain list of smaller ones (Carpenter Lake et al). I suppose getting all the reservoir areas together and subtracting them from the main water-area total would help figure it out, not that it matters for the article, just an interesting tangent....a real picky serious geographer would calculate out the water area of the large rivers, too; e.g. in the Lower Mainland the Fraser is a sizeable chunk of the lowland area as it's so wide; the Columbia, Nass, Skeena, Taku and Stikine area likewise big broad rivers as are short but immense ones like the Klinaklini and Homathko.... Interesting to contemplate, difficult and citation-irrelevant to figure out as areas aren't calculated that way; but I submit if you totalled up the surface area of the Fraser from Tete Jaune Cache down to Delta/Richmond it would come out as one of the larger "water bodies" in the province. Anyway, just coffee/waking up musings....Skookum1 (talk) 14:52, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Garoowe

[edit]

I didn't input the population figures on that page. Someone did before me. What I did was revert the page back to the way it was before the user Paidmonk's vandalism. Paidmonk attempted to portray Garoowe as the capital of the independent "republic" of Puntland, which is of course absurd since Puntland is an autonomous region within the larger Somali Republic and not a country unto itself. Paidmonk attempted this same trick on the Puntland page, so I had to correct him there too. Causteau (talk) 20:47, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's quite alright. As you pointed out, those figures were wrong to start with so they needed redressing anyway. Causteau (talk) 00:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good job with the Gander article

[edit]

The Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador article looks much better now with the extra census statistics, references and whatnot. Your help would be appreciated with Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador and Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, too. NeonFire (talk) 15:42, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I like the Twillingate edits too. Thanks! NeonFire (talk) 12:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whitman Page Again

You mention it is a "possible" copyright violation. Over 80% of Wikipedia articles have "possible" copyright violations. Do you mind if I remove all the "Possible Copyright Violations"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.34.203.161 (talk) 04:30, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you going to remove the Time, Life, Houston Chronicle images from the Whitman page? Are you going to remove all the links in the references section to websites like Texas Monthly, etc.? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.34.203.161 (talk) 05:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll save you time, all of the photos in question were pulled directly from the Internet with the exception of outside school.jpg which was a scanned image from a brochure. Sitel edit

[edit]

I understand on one level why you've edited the text on Sitel. However, if you have any knowledge about the way our modern world functions, you should be fully aware of the phenomenon outsourcing, i.e. large corporates relocating to countries "where salaries are as low as possible and worker rights are scarce or non existent". This is not some juvenile bitterness but rather a known fact. It is not coincidence causing workers in the "developed" part of the world to loose their jobs when the fabrics, call centers, etc. relocate to cheaper countries. Why do Microsoft hire voice coaches to learn Indians to speak with an American accent? Is it because they feel sorry for unemployed Indians? Or is it because they can hire, I don't know, five Indians for the prize of one American? Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy that Indians find a steady employment (and who knows, maybe a second hand PC from the west!!!!), I just don't respect the true reason.
