Canada-airport-stub

[edit]

At WikiProject Stub sorting, I recently proposed a template {{Canada-airport-stub}}. If there are no objections by tomorrow, the template has been cleared and I will create the template and matching category. As far as I know, it's not possible to sort the stubs alphabetically, unfortunately. Aecis praatpaal 09:51, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re-sorting is about as easy as it gets. It's simply copy-pasting the template tag with a small notice in the edit summary ("Stub" usually is enough). Even the most overpopulated stub categories can easily be emptied in a few hours. The reason {{Airport-stub}} is taking a bit longer is because of other activities on wikipedia and in real life, but at 1,180 articles originally, it would have taken perhaps 4 to 5 hours of diligent work to empty the category. Aecis praatpaal 19:30, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have created {{Canada-airport-stub}}, so it can now be filled :) Aecis praatpaal 17:16, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. Well done in moving the Canadian airports to Canada-airport-stub. We'll see if there are any more Canadian airport stubs in airport-stub, but I don't think you've missed many ;) When I proposed the stub, I never imagined there would be so many Canadian airports. As you can probably tell, I'm amazed :) Aecis praatpaal 12:16, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Are you in Cambridge Bay? I have visited CamBay's website and it has info about the town, but one of the glaring omissions is a map of the town showing the streets. Still can't find the map on the main town website. Where should I be looking for the Cam Bay street map? GBC 22:38, 12 January 2005 (UTC) (hand-entered time - I'm not logged in)[reply]

I see that they haven't updated the site yet. Here's a direct link to the only street map I know of (at my own site). It's well out of date. It was done after the high school burnt down but before the new one was constructed and should be just to the left of 19b. Other than that it looks OK. My house is just across the road from the "t" at the end of "airport". CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:01, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans/ Oklahoma City Hornets

[edit]

I apologize for trying to add my point of view to the article. However, the logo I have kept adding is their official logo. The Hornets never abandoned that logo, however they NEVER adopted the logo you keep replacing mine with. That is a logo created by an Oklahoman, not the Hornets. The Hornets have never endorsed that logo, which completely ignores New Orleans. Lately, the team has chosen to use its city-neutral "H" logo, which I have just placed in the article in place of the phony, fabricated logo. I apologize if you thought I was simply trying to eradicate Oklahoma City from the site, but the Oklahoma City logo is completely inaccurate and does not belong in a serious encyclopedia striving for correctness. In addition, I felt the recent events section unfairly served only the Oklahoma City point of view while completely ignoring Louisiana. I have toned down my rhetoric, but I can think of no more accurate word than "steal." New Orleans has done nothing to lose the team, but Oklahoma City is doing everything to take it. At this point there is no reason to believe that the Hornets will denounce all their previous commitments and relocate to Oklahoma City. Neither the NBA nor the team has said anything to that effect, and any inference in the Wikipedia entry to the relocation is factually incorrect and reflects the point of view of only the citizens of Oklahoma, not the rest of the US, the NBA, the Hornets, or any credible members of the sports world. I have merely been trying to add useful, accurate information about the team's New Orleans connection and trying to get rid of blatantly opinionistic rhetoric from Oklahomans. I shall continue to strive to retain accuracy on the Hornets entry in Wikipedia, and at the same time I shall strive to leave my pro-New Orleans point of view out of my edits. I thank you for your suggestions, and I appreciate your hard work to preserve the correctness of the site. Thank you.

coor dms2

[edit]

I don't think any change in the URLs/sites linked to is an intentional change by Zyxw. I think he was only intending to force the E/N to be split over two lines instead of the normal behaviour (it's one one line if it fits, two otherwise). Thanks/wangi 12:25, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the airport infoboxes currently use the "coor dms" template to display the coordinates with a link to the "map sources" page. The problem with "coor dms" when used in the airport infobox is that some browsers wrap the text onto a second line creating something which looks like this:
35°41′21″N, 51°
18′49″E
The point of creating "coor dms2" was to have it wrap in a more logical point, between the latitude and longitude:
35° 41′ 21″ N
51° 18′ 49″ E
I also added spaces between the degrees, minutes and seconds to make it easier to read. The only difference between "coor dms" and "coor dms2" is how the text is displayed. Both templates should generate the same URL for the Map Sources page, assuming they are given the same coordinates. The reason for the change in the Castlegar Airport page is because besides changing from "coor dms" to "coor dms2", I also added "type:airport":
original:
{{coord|49|17|47|N|117|37|57|W|}}
49°17′47″N 117°37′57″W / 49.29639°N 117.63250°W / 49.29639; -117.63250
this causes the map sources page to use a scale of approx. 1 : 300,000
my edit:
{{coord2|49|17|47|N|117|37|57|W|type:airport}}
{{coord2|49|17|47|N|117|37|57|W|type:airport}}
this causes the map sources page to use a scale of approx. 1 : 30,000

Airdrie Airport

[edit]

I changed it because yes, it is in the Calgary area. Airdrie is Calgary's nearest suburb in fact. While I can see that it is not referenced as Calgary/Airdire in the airport's own website, this is also the case for the websites's of other airports such as Springbank which is known simply as Springbank Airport and not Calgary/Springbank. So, the question is, do we use a consistent labeling method that follows that ANY airport within the metropolitan area of a larger centre shall be named like Calgary/Airdrie, or do we simply assume that since this was not mentioned excplicity in third party literature that it must therefore not be true? --Tyson2k 16:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MCR

Hey, CBW! I'm not sure whether MCR would make a viable topic - basically (almost) every Oxford college has a JCR (Junior Common Room), MCR (Middle..) and SCR (Senior..). The first comprises the undergraduate student body, the second the graduates, and the third the College fellows. The two student common rooms take charge of things like their members' welfare, organising entertainments, campaigning on student issues etc. Does that explain things well?

Heliports

[edit]

Sounds good, although I thought I'd let you know that CFB Shearwater's runways have been deactivated (i.e., no planes), and the facility is now used primarily as a heliport. Also, I'm not sure that the Halifax airport has any formal helicopter pads, although I do know they have a spot where helicopters land and take off. I'll leave it all to you, though. Ouuplas 23:30, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, in past years (about five years ago) Shearwater was used for air shows, so I might be partially wrong. They do hold the airshow at Halifax airport now, though. Ouuplas 23:33, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

My name is Jaffer and I started editing by linking video clips. I got a user account after a few edits. I am almost 50 years old and have been in the historical video business for 20 years. I never wanted to do anything wrong (and you can call me at 708-478-4500 ext. 105 if you like).

I have made many edits with links to video clips...most of which have been historical in nature. The site is evtv1. I have only made links where they were extremely relevant. While it is true I am connected to evtv1, the site it is really not more commercial than imdb...which was in fact sold to Amazon for over $100 million and sells advertising.

All of the clips that I link to are legal and copyright permission has been granted. I truly believed that this was a service. Yes, there is advertising...but those Elvis Home Movies are priceless...and the edit was reversed. This is LEGAL Footage...isn't it worth the commercial message at the front?

I would love to continue to edit and link to APPROPRIATE videos. I am having a lot of fun and I really believe that there is value. But if you want me to stop, I will. I can be reached at Jaffer@gophercentral.com.

Please know that I love Wikipedia and do not wish to hurt it in any way. My hope would be to eventually become an administrator. 216.159.242.201 18:10, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Jaffer[reply]

No problem at all mate, I'm still quite confused as to how it generated that weird name in the first place.
