PRODs

[edit]

Hello, Bri,

For some recently tagged articles, you somehow merged BLPPROD tags with PROD tags. These are two very different forms of deletion and the current merger is confusing for a reviewer to assess. It would have been simpler if they had all just been regular PROD taggings. And, for example, the tags don't include the username of the tagger as is typical.

So I'm going to leave them for another admin to try to sort out. If, in the future, you could just choose one form of PROD, either an BLPPROD tag or a regular PROD tag, it would be much more straight-forward for the admin who needs to evaluate them. Just use Twinkle to select one form of PROD instead of creating original forms of tagging. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 20:18, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Sorry for the trouble. I don't use Twinkle, I just place the templates by hand and manually log at User:Bri/PROD. Thought that it was a good idea to use BLPPROD where it seems justified. I.e. applying BLPPROD only where no references exist, per the documentation. Some BLPs don't satisfy this requirement, so I use PROD instead.
Based on your description above of "merged" I'm not sure what is wrong; if you could provide a diff maybe I would understand better. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:58, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page 2025 in Washington (state), may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A bare URL and missing title error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 23:08, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:NONSOVEREIGN and MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE

[edit]

Per MOS:NONSOVEREIGN and MOS:FLAG RELEVANCE, requesting relevant use of Puerto Rico’s flag in a sporting or beauty contest where the American territory competes separately & independently (sovereign) from USA since 1948.

MOS:NONSOVEREIGN supports the use of sub-national flags as “exception[s] in sporting contexts“, which would naturally extend to beauty pageants.

MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE approves use of sub-national flags when it is “directly relevant to the article”, which applies here considering that in the beauty competition the candidate of “Puerto Rico” represents “Puerto Rico”, wears the band of “Puerto Rico”, and performs in front of the projected “flag of Puerto Rico”.

This further satisfies MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE, as it has made the flag easily “recognizable by the general public” throughout the history of major international beauty contests in which Puerto Rico has continuously participated since 1952 with great success.

The candidate from Puerto Rico does not carry the name nor the flag of the USA during the competition, as that is the responsibility of the candidate in the competition directly representing the “USA” or the “United States of America”.

Like in the Olympics, the USA and PR athletes/candidates are considered separate and independent from each other, which is why the USA team wears and performs under the American flag and the Puerto Rico team wears and performs under the Puerto Rican flag. Tektonson (talk) 22:09, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tektonson: I think this should be discussed at the MOS talkpage. I initiated a discussion there in 2022, where I felt there was either support for no flags in pageant articles, or adherence to NONSOVEREIGN, my interpretation of which is PR is not sovereign and would be covered by the US flag. Would you like to start it? ☆ Bri (talk) 22:13, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The case is clear to me, but a discussion would help!

[edit]

The case is clear to me, but absolutely, there should be a discussion because it is profoundly misleading and confusing to have a separate and independent candidate in a beauty pageant registered as “Puerto Rico” representing “Puerto Rico” with the “flag of Puerto Rico”, and not reflect that on the wiki page of the pageant. She is not representing the “USA” with the “flag of USA”, as that duty falls on the separate and independent candidate registered as “USA” in the pageant. Tektonson (talk) 22:33, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am a little confused. you removed the discussion that you started. do you intend to reopen it at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Icons? ☆ Bri (talk) 16:12, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes!

[edit]

Yes, will be adding shortly. Thanks Tektonson (talk) 20:56, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
