Problems
- Some pages show the error
Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject
. This problem happens on pages with a Lua module that uses Wikidata. The developers are working on fixing the problem. You can fix a page by opening it for editing and then saving without changing anything. [1] - Wikidata and German Wikipedia could not be edited for an hour on 28 July. You can read why and how we could avoid it in the future in the incident report.
Changes later this week
- Some wikis already have the larger and brighter OOjs UI edit page buttons. All remaining wikis except Commons will have these from 1 August. [2]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 August. It will be on all wikis from 3 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 1 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The default font in the edit window will soon change for some users. Instead of using the browser default it will be monospace. Users can change this in their preferences. This should only change this for some users on Macs and iOS devices. [3]

Talk page stalkers - any of you use PGP?
A question -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 19:26, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- Well, yes, I use GNU Privacy Guard for signing email and encrypting backup data stored in the cloud. I use Hushmail for much of my email messaging, as it uses OpenPGP for encryption/decryption. I have a GnuPG add-on for my local email system, Thunderbird. There are few PGP users generally, so I find I can't use PGP much for general emails. I tend to use the Signal messaging app more often for secure communications, both text and voice. Geoff | Who, me? 22:00, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Glane23: Interesting.. I used to use it heavily but ended up losing keys and the such. I recently created a new key (0xB66DB2C1) solely for this account, am I correct in thinking this would be a good way for proving ownership of the account should I get compromised (encrypting a message with the private key)? -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:54, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

- Mind your fingers, mind your toes, watch the doors, they're gonna close. -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:21, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
I believe I use PGP but to be completely honest I'm not sure. It has me baffled that I don't know. Dinah In Wonderland 14:09, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Regarding "proving ownership" with PGP. Here is what you can do:
- Post your PUBLIC KEY (not just the index/hash value of it)
- Make a posting that is SIGNED by your PUBLIC KEY
- That will show that you are in control of the PRIVATE key and can be verified by anyone. In the future, you can prove that you have access to the same private key that you have access to now (that presumably you have kept secure) by creating a new message and signing it again. That new message will be able to be verified again by anyone with the ORIGINAL public key you posted. — xaosflux Talk 14:18, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- ENCRYPTING a message is not the way to do this - the SIGNING is how you do it. For example, look at the "ownership" statement on User:Fluxbot. — xaosflux Talk 14:18, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ahhh, thank you Xaos - I'll do that :) -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:23, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can now see which Wikipedia language versions are read in a specific country. This tool is called Wikipedia Views Visualized. [4]
- The Architecture Committee is now the Wikimedia Technical Committee. You can read the charter. [5]
Problems
- You can get an email when a page on your watchlist was edited. You can choose not to get emails for minor edits. There is a bug that means that you then don't get an email when someone does a normal edit after a minor edit. The developers are working on fixing this. Until it has been fixed you can activate "Email me also for minor edits of pages and files" at the bottom of "User profile" in your preferences if you want to. [6]
- The thanks button sometimes didn't work for mobile users. This was because of a new bug and has now been fixed. [7]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 August. It will be on all wikis from 10 August (calendar).
Future changes
- Editors and readers who still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP will not be able to use Wikipedia. Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP can't connect securely to the wikis. When we allow them to do so it means that we get less security for everyone else. If you use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP you can install Firefox 52 ESR instead. Around 0.1% of the traffic to the Wikimedia wikis comes from Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. [8]
- Links to sections on Wikipedia don't work well in languages that don't use the Latin script. The URL in the address bar in your browser shows Latin characters like
.D0.A1.D1.81.D1.8B.D0.BB.D0.BA.D0.B8
instead of the section heading in the wiki's language. Links to sections in non-Latin scripts will be in the script of that wiki in the future. This will happen in the next few months. [9][10] - Wiki pages printed by the web browser "Print" function will have an updated style. This new style will be similar to the when you download a page as PDF. It will be better at showing tables, infoboxes and headings. [11][12]

Request of removal of permission to use Twinkle for Adamgerber80
Wikipedia:Requests for permissions#Removal of permissions leads me to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, which I have no access to. Could you please post the following notice on behalf of me (as Adamgerber80's rollback right was approved by you)? Thank you! --146.96.252.3 (talk) 05:20, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
Recently I added some material, well sourced (except a mistake: I mismemorized the year 1973 as 1968), to Kingdom of Sikkim, which was subsequently reverted by Adamgerber80 with a threat to block me. His edit and threat were subsequently reverted by another user (which was to my surprise, years ago it would just leave there).
It would be a happy ending but later I realized Adamgerber80 do not at all think he has done anything wrong and questioned Kautilya3's right to "undo issued warnings". He attributed the issue to "ones which have a history of pushing their agenda", which he later clarified that it has nothing to do with "this particular case":
“ | I agree with your point that we should retain editors but not ones which have a history of pushing their agenda | ” |
As he insinuated my behaviour were the reason of the conflict while I have never added anything unsourced or done any vandalism in WIkipedia, I intervened into and told him even if he believes that a small part of my edit withour source, he could just undo the small part and ask for a reference about it, instead of undo all valid edits and issue a threat. Unfortunately, he didn't agree to change his "approach", using his word.
I believe, if more than 1~2 percent of rollback from a user are false positive with false warning, granting him rollback right would do more harm than good, as Twinkle rollbacks and warnings give inexperienced users a facade that his edit might be reverted by an admin and he might be warned by an admin (thus more people would refrain from editing Wikipedia). Plus, without Twinkle, one can still undo edits, leave messages, etc. Also, I have noticed that this is not the first time Adamgerber80 has done a disputed rollback within the eight months he has rollback rights (see his talk page). For all of those reason above, I request a removal of Adamgerber80's Twinkle permission. --146.96.252.3 (talk) 05:20, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi There'sNoTime, Please have a look at User_talk:Adamgerber80#Don.27t_bite_newbies and the edits in question. I believe the editor above is misrepresenting facts to suit his/her narrative. I would be more than happy to clarify any of the rationale behind above mentioned edits or any other edits by me in the past (That is if you feel one is required). Thanks and sorry for bothering you. Adamgerber80 (talk) 16:08, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- He will not be responsible to cancel any permissions from you. Instead, he will transfer this problem to the incident notice board and you will receive a notice then. There, everyone will look into the case and I believe they'll not just listen to one user and judge your behaviour. People will look into everything, include your ur entire user talk page (not just that section), my user history and yours. So relax. --146.96.252.3 (talk) 19:09, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

- @Kostas20142: That they did, and WP:OS does state that it can be used to
hide the IP data of editors who accidentally logged out
, but given you reverted the edit and didn't attempt to follow up with the IP (asking if they meant to edit logged out) I can't imagine you've contacted OS.. Perhaps you should contact the IP first -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 17:53, 11 August 2017 (UTC)- It was the first ever edit from this IP (and the only one), and all this just looked accidental to me. The Rambling Man
Didn't you tell me on my talk page a few days ago that his removal of 3rd-party comments was inappropriate? If he's going to follow me around undoing things I do, maybe I should look in to an IBAN. And I know I shouldn't assume malicious intent, but it does seem queer those things he's done, especially since whenever I ask him to stop doing them, his answer is, "Shut up! You're going to get banned very soon!". BTW, I am here because TRM apparently doesn't want me talking about him and/or to you on his own page. pbp 20:32, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- In answer to what you said on TRM's page while I was here, the answer to, "Do I really think that?" is "Yes". pbp 20:33, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- And what is it with his 'tude? His airs suggest that I'm somebody horrendously beneath him. I'm hardly the first to be rubbed the wrong way on that one. pbp 20:36, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It was inappropriate, but then again it's in that same grey area where people believe it's inappropriate to template a regular - regardless of TRM's, yours or my own opinion on DTTR, I think the best thing anyone can do on Wikipedia in these sorts of situations is step well away from the editor, and get stuck into something else. You're welcome to pursue a formal IBAN, but it's just more drama than this website is worth imho.. -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 20:37, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- I know Wikipedia's a big place, but that dude has his fingers in a lot of pots. Especially some of the very important ones. I feel like he's betting on me starting some discussion where he can counter with his "Ban PBP" BS, so I'm going to hold off on the IBAN proposal until he does something else egregious. pbp 20:42, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- By all means don't hold off. I will fully support an IBAN. Let me know when you request it and I'll pop by to add my unwavering and indefinite support. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:45, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

- Let me ask this: I am still interested in participating in ITNC from time to time. I may be again interested in participating in 2017 or other RYs when something important comes up. (These interests are not TRM-related and ebb and flow with what's happening in the world). An IBAN doesn't forbid me from completely desisting from those places, does it? pbp 20:50, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Here's what I'd like in an IBAN:
- TRM and I can't undo each other in any space.
- TRM and I can't post on each other's talk pages.
- TRM and I can't start discussions on the other's conduct
- Am I missing anything? pbp 20:50, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Traditional IBAN covers all that, and you can't pick-and-choose. I'm happy to do that, whoever gets to a thread first can comment, otherwise it's blockville, as I discovered earlier this year. You won't be banned from participating, but you will be banned from commenting on any thread I start or any comment I make on any other thread. Ditto me to you. I'm extremely happy with that. After you. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:53, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

Re: What are you doing?
Just block me again now, I don't have time fixing the portal. I think South Park is higher then Family Guy based on the pageviews report. My edits were autistic when I got blocked for excessive uploads, mainly my edits to Courage the Cowardly Dog was a huge mistake. JJ98 (Talk) 20:39, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

There'sNoTime, since there is no active admin checking my case I want you to take a look at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Snowsleeping and determine the case whether the 2 accounts that I suspected are sockpuppets of Snowsleeping. Thanks. TheNewSMG (talk) 11:11, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Is there any way for a lowly user like me to view the results of the edit filter you just created/modified, short of requesting to become an WP:EFM myself? I'm really interested in adding cases to the LTA. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:07, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Update
Since you have protected the page Islamic terrorism in Europe (2014–present), could you please update the "List of attacks" section to show the recent attack on Barcelona. Thanks. Darius robin (talk) 11:56, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Darius robin: I've unprotected the page, seeing as that was primarily what the dispute was about - in my opinion, the admin who fully protects an article due to a content dispute should not make any changes relating to that dispute -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 12:16, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

University of Phoenix
I have an issue with Nihlus Kryik's use of rollback. I deleted critism and lawsuit sections under the University of Phoenix, because we as editors seem to have a double standard. There are major universities that have far greater sins and crimes against them, but yet these sections do not exist and should and until these are added to other universities one should not be the "whipping boy" for editors.
This was clearly not vandalism and Nihlus Kryik extremely abused their roll back authority.Ballastrae (talk) 13:13, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
There is clearly nothing here about rapes investigations etc: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Baylor_University
nor anything about raping children and/or the lack of leadership here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Pennsylvania_State_University
I can add site after site, but you get my pointBallastrae (talk) 13:13, 19 August 2017 (UTC) Ballastrae (talk) 13:14, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Ballastrae: Edit warring and removing content for a stupid reason like
not holding up the same standards for other universities
(and putting shit likeWe can do this all day!!!!!!!!!!!
in your edit summary) and then telling an admin is a really bad idea. Blocked for 31 hours. No abuse of rollback (though @Nihlus Kryik: in the future, please don't continually revert, and instead let an admin know so we can block them quicker) -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:20, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- Pennsylvania State University#Child sex abuse scandal. That? You can't just constantly remove something from an article because you don't like it or because WP:OTHERTHINGSEXIST or don't exist. Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. The preferred course of action would be to add the information that is missing, not disrupting other articles to prove something. — nihlus kryik (talk) 13:18, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- Will do. I've seen admins bite at the lack of four warnings before though on AIV. — nihlus kryik (talk) 13:21, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- It happens, and you were working through the warnings very well - in this case I think you did fine sometimes however you may find that an editor hits 3RR before you work through all the warnings. In that case, a report to WP:ANEW or even just a message on an admin's talk will bring a quicker resolution to the disruption -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:25, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi There'sNoTime, would you please take care of this harassing editor? User:SahabAliwadia warned this IP on his/her talk page for making disruptive edits to Tomorrow's Pioneers and then this IP did the same thing by falsely accusing SahabAliwadia of disruptive edits on his talk page. SahabAliwadia and I both warned this IP for falsely accusing people of disruptive edits/harrassment on the IP's talk page. Once again he falsely accused both SahabAliwadia and me on our talk pages for harrasing/falsely accusing people of disruptive edits. I find it funny that after all of this the IP claims that him/her did not make the edits and the IP was being used by someone else AND he expects us to believe his crap. It is getting really annoying. Thanks. TheNewSMG (talk) 02:34, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- You are right user. He warned me once again saying to tell him what he did wrong knowing what he did and, and, and when he was blocked for 3 months, he once again warned this user in his talk page saying that he will block him and he is happy for that. Please administrator, block him indefinitely and revoke his talk page access. SahabAliwadia 07:47, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- @SahabAliwadia: Hi, I see the IP has been blocked - we don't block IP addresses indefinitely as they are often shared between lots of people, and it could stop a good editor from being able to contribute. I will keep an eye on the IP for you -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 10:48, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- @There'sNoTime: But he is also blocked in past (see this), but no improvement can be seen by me. SahabAliwadia 11:01, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

User:SahabAliwadia is correct this IP has been blocked several times before but no improvement. Right now this IP is editing my warning content and making it look like he is warning me. When I warned him that he will lose his talk page access he said the same thing back to me. So far, SahabAliwadia and I warned once again that if the IP continues his behavior he will lose access to edit his talk page. Please revoke talk page access and ban him indefinitely. Recent changes
- You can now test the new Timeless skin on the test wiki and mediawiki.org. You can turn it on in your preferences. You can report bugs in Phabricator. It will come to more wikis soon. [16][17]
- Your watchlist can now have the option to unwatch pages. You have to turn this on in your preferences. [18]
- If a table has several columns you can often choose which column you want to use to sort the table. This has not worked for some columns for readers who have used Firefox or Safari. This has now been fixed. [19]
- The RelatedArticles extension has shown related pages on Wikivoyages. You will now see the related pages at the end of the article together with an image. Previously the links were in the sidebar. Wikis that want this extension can request it on Phabricator.
Changes later this week
- Videos will now be played in the WebM format in all browsers. Previously some browsers used Ogg Theora (.ogv). If you use Safari, Internet Explorer or Edge you may see slower playback speed at high resolutions. Instead we will get better quality and smaller file size. You can still upload video as Ogg files. They are automatically converted to WebM. This doesn't affect Ogg audio files. [20]
- The default font in the edit window will change for some users this week. Instead of using the browser default, it will be monospace. Users can change this in their preferences. This should only change this for some users on Macs and iOS devices. [21]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 August. It will be on all wikis from 24 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 23 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 22 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 16,991 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
Technology update:
- Rentier has created a NPP browser in WMF Labs that allows you to search new unreviewed pages using keywords and categories.
General project update:
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working with the community to implement the autoconfirmed article creation trial. The trial is currently set to start on 7 September 2017, pending final approval of the technical features.
- Please remember to focus on the quality of review: correct tagging of articles and not tagbombing are important. Searching for potential copyright violations is also important, and it can be aided by Earwig's Copyvio Detector, which can be added to your toolbar for ease of use with this user script.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

IP 72.198.49.108 block evasion
It is clear that IP 72.198.49.108 is evading their block using the IP98.191.196.7.
One article, America at a Crossroads, is a clear indicator that IP72.198 = IP98.191
And there are more similar edits. Azadbeh, Racism in Saudi Arabia, Beliefs and ideology of Osama bin Laden, just to name a few articles I have found. Both IPs call editors that have reverted them, vandals, socks, etc. --Kansas Bear (talk) 01:42, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

- ACTRIAL, a research experiment that restricts article creation to autoconfirmed users, will begin on September 7. It will run for six months. You can learn more about the research specifics at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial, while Wikipedia talk:Autoconfirmed article creation trial is probably the best venue for general discussion.
- Following an RfC, WP:G13 speedy deletion criterion now applies to any page in the draftspace that has not been edited in six months. There is a bot-generated report, updated daily, to help identify potentially qualifying drafts that have not been submitted through articles for creation.
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
- Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
- In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.
- Applications for CheckUser and Oversight are being accepted by the Arbitration Committee until September 12. Community discussion of the candidates will begin on September 18.
Hi
I kept trying to add a request for unprotection to the protection modification request page but for some reason I kept being disallowed by some edit filter nonsense? I don't know why, but I saw you are an admin, so I was wondering if you can help me. Here is what I was trying to post on the request page:
Grenada has been semiprotected for more than 4 years, for no good reason. There was not any unusual or egregious level of abuse back in 2013 when it was protected, and I don't see how an article like that would warrant indefinite protection. Can you please remove the protection, at least to see if there is a problem? 192.31.106.34 (talk) 13:16, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Syntax highlighting is now a beta feature on Wikimedia wikis with text written from left to right. It will come to right-to-left wikis later. This beta feature is based on CodeMirror. [22][23]
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device or IP address that have logged in to your account before you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can turn this off or choose to get an email notification in your preferences. You can also turn on to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address. [24]
Problems
- Some pages show the error
Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject
. This problem happens on pages with a Lua module that use Wikidata. This has now been fixed and no new pages will get this problem. You still need to fix pages that were broken before and still show the error message. You can see how on this page. [25]
Changes later this week
- You can block users from sending you notifications. [26]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).

- You can join the next meeting with the Technical Committee. The topic this week is Migrate to HTML5 section ids. The meeting will be on 30 August at 21:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- In the future you will have global preferences. This means you could set something in your preferences to work in the same way on all wikis. You will not be forced to use global preferences. The developers are now asking if editors need exceptions. This is where you want to use global settings on almost all wikis, but have some wikis where you want it to work in a different way. If you want this you need to tell the developers now. You can do so on the talk page. [27]
- New filters for edit review is a beta feature to improve recent changes pages. It will work on watchlists from 5 September. [28]
- The jQuery library will be upgraded to version 3 in September 2017. Wikis can ask on Phabricator to get it early, so they can help find and solve problems now.

Request for ease in protection
Dear admin,
The Wiki page on "Bilal Akbar" relates to a serving General officer and present Chief of General Staff in the Pakistan Army.
I understand that the page was repeatedly vandalised and certain people went against community standards to misuse their authorities. There are certain entries or rather allegations of human rights violations attributed to the said General officer.
I request you to please allow me to remove the false allegations from the page or you may remove them. Allegations hurled against the officer, when cross-checked from their original sources, do not implicitly refer to him by name, nor do they provide incriminating evidence of his past record having engaged in such violent activities.
I will be grateful and obliged to your kind assistance.

Dear There'sNoTime,
My request may not carry weight, as such, since I am indeed a new user. Human Rights Watch (HRW) is certainly a credible forum but my point of contention is that the user "Rameezraja001" who inserted these details in the first place did so out of political motives and bias. I probed his editorial contributions and found that he has made entries in favour of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), a Karachi-based political party which has direct conflict of interests / issues with the Pakistan Army.
This is similar to someone from, say, the Democrat lobby making entries critical of Republican President Donald Trump. But beyond that, to give a separate heading under "Torture" beside the name of a serving General officer is objectionable. I represent the institution which he belongs to that is why I placed this polite request before you.
I would be very grateful if you oblige.

"Regarding NSEL case"
I would like to bring your attention towards this page once again. Its content has been reversed a couple of times by Nimrodindia and CMshah in the past few days without adherence to the consensus building exercise. The reference links shared by the former user are as old as 2013 as stated by Michaeltibbs which have been modified as per the case’s progression under the judiciary. If I may say so, this is an example of blatant ignorance to Wikipedia’s norms. I request you to look into the matter and suggest a way forward so as to put an end to these edit wars and gain neutrality on the page. Thank you. Anrdshr (talk) 18:12, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey
Hello,
Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.
We really appreciate your input!
Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 14304 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
- Currently there are 532 pages in the backlog that were created by non-autoconfirmed users before WP:ACTRIAL. The NPP project is undertaking a drive to clear these pages from the backlog before they hit the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing a few today!
Technology update:
- The Wikimedia Foundation is currently working on creating a new filter for page curation that will allow new page patrollers to filter by extended confirmed status. For more information see: T175225
General project update:
- On 14 September 2017 the English Wikipedia began the autoconfirmed article creation trial. For a six month period, creation of articles in the mainspace of the English Wikipedia will be restricted to users with autoconfirmed status. New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.
- Before clicking on a reference or external link while reviewing a page, please be careful that the site looks trustworthy. If you have a question about the safety of clicking on a link, it is better not to click on it.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

Structured Discussions was previously called Flow. [44]
Changes later this week
- You now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device or IP address that have logged in to your account before you will be notified after five failed attempts. For security reasons you will soon get an email by default when someone tries to log in to your account and when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address. This can be turned off in your preferences. [45]
- Users with extremely old browsers (for example Netscape 2–4, released from 1995–1997) which do not support Unicode will no longer be able to edit. They should try to install a new browser. [46]

The speedy was contested by two editors on the talk page. It was deleted without response, discussion or AfD. Do you decide and not the community? And what's the rush? -- GreenC 15:02, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- @GreenC: Thanks for getting in touch - I saw no credible claim of significance in the article, which made the tagged A7 valid. Devoid any encyclopedic value, the page was just a cheap way of taking a shot at a company. I honestly couldn't care less than the article content was all negative, as Wikipedia contains neutral fact. I don't believe the tagged G10 was overly valid. The arguments on the talk page did not negate the valid A7, and attempted to address issues which didn't even exist ("
It's not a copyvio and the material sourced does verify
"). That all being said, I prefer to see content kept on Wikipedia than deleted, and I will happily restore the content to draftspace to be worked on. As forwhat's the rush
, please refer to WP:SPEEDY which states "administrators have broad consensus to bypass deletion discussion, at their discretion, and immediately delete Wikipedia pages
" -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 15:12, 29 September 2017 (UTC)- Ok thanks for the explanation and offer to take to Draft as I think the issues raised might be addressable. I don't have a copy of the original article. -- GreenC 15:14, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

- Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.

Lexi Temkin moved to draftspace
With due regards to the earlier thread, I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please do the needful.Warm regards:) Winged Blades of GodricOn leave 08:33, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Hey
I have decided to mess with your draft, hope you don't mind ;-) To be honest, I feel the minor outburst was completely reasonable. I hope one day we can work to address and resolve the divide between editor/admin and content creator/maintenance workers. Warm regards, Alex ShihTalk 12:04, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Alex Shih: Not a problem at all It's on my list to try to create that at some point. I don't see a divide, but many do, which is a shame -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 07:14, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Draft:Nextiva
Hello There'sNoTime, I am an Articles for Creation volunteer, and I would like to approve Draft:Nextiva. ISince the article seems to have been created before and has been page-protected, I’m unable to move it there. Would you be willing to do it? I appreciate it! --1990'sguy (talk) 02:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- @1990'sguy: I've removed the page protection, so you should now be able to move the article -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 07:13, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
A note..
Hi,
Greetings:).With due consideration to the recent chain of events, I don't feel Lexi Temkin passes WP:GNG or as such any WP:SNG as of yet. Will you be comfortable with me draftifying it?Regards:)Winged Blades of GodricOn leave 08:25, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Godric on Leave: Sure thing, I believe the notable research she co-lead passes the low-bar of WP:GNG, but I'd much rather continue to work on it in draftspace than it getting AfD'd (I'm not entirely confident it'd survive AfD in its current state!) -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 08:28, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- Done-Many thanks! Anyways, I will be keeping a watch on your 28-day mission to see if I can help out on any issue.Winged Blades of GodricOn leave 08:35, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- At any case, consider me as one of those who truly hope that the Maintanence-workers vs Content-Creaters divide fizzles out real soon.Winged Blades of GodricOn leave 08:38, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- I was actually going to talk to you about this too, while PROF is not an exclusionary standard to the GNG, in practice we don't consider people who don't pass PROF to pass the GNG unless it is for something other than their academic work (it can be related, though, for example: someone who has taken their academic research and written a pop-science book that gets great reviews in the NYT). If you want ideas on articles to write for your 28 days, I might be able to think of some depending on your interests. I'm boring though, so they'll likely be less interesting than what you'd have thought up :) TonyBallioni (talk) 13:12, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- I've got to say, it's interesting looking at these policies from this side of the fence - I consider myself to have a detailed understanding of our notability policies (heck, wouldn't be an admin otherwise) but the difference is I know them from the point of view of deleting ("does this article meet a criteria for deleting"). I can see that the predisposition to delete isn't helpful, and that in fact there really shouldn't be any "fence" to be on either side of.. @TonyBallioni: I'd appreciate some suggestions - so far I've been looking at the WiR redlist and grabbing ones which have a few links to possible references. I'll admit, I did start writing Lexi Temkin before looking at notability, oops! -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:24, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- Well, my first comment is that while I get the challenge it might be easier and more benefit for the encyclopedia to go to a stub category you are interested in, find a pre-2010 article that is in dire need of repair, and bring it to DYK and then GA (if it were me, I'd pick something like Papal conclave, May 1555).If you want to create articles, probably one of the easiest ways to do it is find someone in the Dictionary of National Biography that looks interesting and write on them. They are automatically notable per WP:ANYBIO, and should be somewhat easy to get a non-stub article there. I can't find if there is a list of DNB entries on Wikipedia right now. I know we have lists of the Canadian version at Template:Dictionary of Canadian Biography, which I've been going through and creating articles on academics and educators. TonyBallioni (talk) 13:52, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
- A couple of the WiR redlisted articles are in the ODNB, so I'll look at them. The whole 28 day thing is a personal challenge given how much I struggle with finishing a writing project (blog posts, university papers, my dissertation!) but I will definitely have a look at improving some stubs Thanks for the pointers Tony -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:00, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Transonic
Aww... And I was just about to explain to the IP the difference between subsonic (<0.75 mach), transonic (0.75-1.0 mach) and supersonic (>1.0 mach). E.g. 747-8 has a max mach of 0.91 which is transonic, not supersonic. Mr rnddude (talk) 15:16, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
- Isn't Wikipedia brilliant - transonic lead me to Prandtl–Glauert singularity which caused me to click through to Singularity (mathematics) and now I'm stuck into Removable singularitys. ... I hate to go to the Great Dismal Swamp, because I'd like to write articles. I have been on the receiving end of restrictions, as you may know. It's humiliating to have to ask for mercy, in other words, to appeal. (I was too proud to appeal for two years.) If you have little time: just make that block a fixed time. If you have more time: look for my name on Joe's talk page. I hate to repeat Precious when he's blocked, and it may happen again this month. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:34, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Hi Gerda, thank you for your message and for the level-headed approach you bring to difficult situations such as this. I'm genuinely torn in this case, on one hand you have incivility which makes Wikipedia a difficult place to work (and I'm not talking about what is and isn't a personal attack) but on the other the very real fact that I jumped on the report very quickly. The feeling I get at the thread is one which makes me feel foolish for rushing in, but one which supports the idea of something needing to be done. I see the user has been warned and asked to cool off multiple times, and we've escalated up block durations to hopefully try to encourage a change of behaviour.. What is left to do?
- Joefromrandb has contributed greatly to Wikipedia, but with an attitude I cannot ignore. To me, there's no ratio of incivility to content which makes behaviour like that justifiable. Please don't get me wrong, I want a resolution here and the restriction ended as soon as possible - I'd unblock immediately if Joefromrandb put their hands up and committed to continue working here without these little outbursts, just as many of our amazing content contributors, such as yourself, manage on a daily basis. As always, I'm open to comment and criticism - if you were in my shoes, what would you do? -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 07:47, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- I thought you'd at least read my first thought, about how humiliating it is to expect someone to "put their hands up" and say "I commit to continue working here without these little outbursts". If you have little time, just follow the link from my last comment on his page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:03, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- I can quite happily stop and see when I've mucked up, and admit to it - that shouldn't be humiliating. I saw the link to this post -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 08:08, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- If you can happily stop, then do it. - (ec:) About being in your shoes: hard. I am not an admin, and never want to be one. I wrote my little questionaire (which could be subtitled: Do you really think a block is good for Wikipedia?) for a reason. Next time someone makes a report as this one: ignore ignore ignore. I said already above what I'd do if I was you, now that you are already in this mess: make the block a fixed time. Life is too short. (My questions about blocking came up discussing with Kevin, DYK?) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:15, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- A joke, as a token of thanks (from the time when we had DM and Pfennig): Auntie to little Peter: "If you don't use that dirty word again, I give you 10 Pfennig." Peter, in expectation: "I know a word for 50 Pfennig." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:24, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

and on Special:Statistics will now only include Wikidata edits as activity on Wikidata and not on other wikis too. [64] - Previously you could create wiki links starting with two colons. Now you need to use one colon. [[::File:X.jpg]] now has to be [[:File:X.jpg]]. There is now a new Linter category. You can see a list on Special:Linterrors/multi-colon-escape. The Linter extension helps you find technical errors in articles. You can read more about using Linter. [65]
Problems
- You will not be able to edit or upload files to Commons for around 30 minutes on 11 October. This will start at 06:00 UTC. This is because of work to let Commons show 3D models. [66]
Changes later this week
- The font in the edit window is monospace by default. Today you can change preferences to another font family or use "the browser default" instead of monospace. Switching to the browser default has only changed the font on Macs. The option to use browser default will be removed this week. [67]
- If you want to print a page or make a PDF of a page you can do so in the side menu. The way the pages look when you do this will change. You can read more on mediawiki.org.
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 October. It will be on all wikis from 12 October (calendar).

- @Ateenageboy: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! To begin with, I'd recommend you complete this training (it won't take too long, and you can do it in parts). Once you've done that, taking the Wikipedia Adventure will teach you important elements of interacting with other editors. Once you've got all that done, drop by my talk page again and I'll run through how you can help remove vandalism and we'll look at getting you the rollback permission -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 13:56, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

The ANI about a block
- Joefromrandb (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
Hello There'sNoTime. If another admin were to try to close the thread about Joefromrandb right now, WP:ANI#Long-term gross incivility and WP:BATTLE they would probably have to say there is no consensus for the block. I figure that there are about 10 people in favor, 7 against and 9 who say that the block was too quick. Ironically, this leaves us uncertain how the 'too quick' people would have voted on the merits. Since the thread has been open more than a week a further shift of opinion seems unlikely. You might choose to just to lift the block and then leave any further action to ANI. In this way you could take yourself out of the loop. I take no position on the block myself. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 04:33, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
- When you edit a template with the visual editor it follows the template's
format
configuration on how to save it. You can now change the format in more powerful ways if your wiki wants it. [68][69] - The TwoColConflict extension is a new way to solve edit conflicts. It makes it easier to copy and paste the relevant text to the text field. It has been a beta feature for the last five months. You can now try out the new interface on a page where you will actually get simulated edit conflicts. You can give feedback to the developers.
Problems
- There is a problem with recent changes pages and your watchlist that show a large number of pages. Until it is fixed, Wikidata edits will not be shown on recent changes or in your watchlist on Commons or Russian Wikipedia. If necessary, Wikidata edits will be removed from all wikis. [70]
- Notifications are not working for some actions. For example some users don't get a notification when they are mentioned. The developers are working on fixing this. [71]
- Users on some wikis could not change their preferences. This has now been fixed. [72]

- Editors and readers who still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP will not be able to use Wikipedia from 17 October. [73]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 October. It will be on all wikis from 19 October (calendar).

Formatting of Pages of Singapore MRT Lines
Hello.
I seek your assistance regarding the article guidelines of certain pages on the Singapore MRT network.
A few months ago, some users started adding an excessive amount (in my opinion) of unnecessary colours into tables and articles. They evidently cite the reason as to closely mimic the style of the local transport, which feature station codes in ovals. As I had been on hiatus, I did not notice it until recently. See links for examples.
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Downtown_MRT_Line#Stations https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Circle_MRT_Line#Stations
Having maintained the pages for many years, I find this absolutely unnecessary as it clutters up the articles. I seem to recall reading guidelines that stipulate the use of colours in articles, but unfortunately, I am unable to find it and cite it in my discussions with Irobotboy. Attempting to remove the coloured codes only result in him adding them back. I have already posted a message to his talkpage but he evidently responded on another user's page. (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:1.02_editor#Stations_for_Downtown_Line) I therefore replied to his query but he has not answered. As I had already "reverted" his edits twice, I find myself unable to respond to his latest activities without involving myself in an edit war.
I seek your opinion on the matter. This is without precedent as I have been unable to find examples of any other metro network utilizing station codes.
Thank you

OTRS query
I'm trying to do some OTRS cleanup.
As brief background, DGG locked a number of tickets, and in some cases began a discussion with the customer. In some cases, he has not begun a discussion with the customer. As you know, he is now very active with Arbcom, and unable to devote enough time to OTRS tickets. In cases where DGG initiated a discussion I am taking them over. In the case of ticket:2016021510020372, you are the only agent involved. Would you be willing to do an update? It has been some time, so it may be worth starting with a question whether the issue is still open in their minds.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:14, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Sphilbrick: I'm currently taking some time away from Wikipedia/OTRS etc., so I would recommend asking someone else. Apologies -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 17:17, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Seeking advice...
Hi There'sNoTime. You mentioned I could reach out any time with questions, so here I am. A user has been editing Michael Lovell to add the "worst university president" award. Them and I have been in discussion here. As the latest discussion comes from a new IP address, it looks like there have been three IP addresses involved, but seem to be the same person.
Am I wrong in my arguments that this "award" should not be included in the article? I was hoping someone else who watches the page might weigh-in, but that hasn't happened yet. The reference they provide looks to be a blog/editorial, and not a reliable source (please help me understand if I am wrong).
Their latest comment calls me "a subordinate of Michael Lovell" (I am not). Should I reply to the comment? Should I give them one more chance before requesting an admin to protect the page? Or am I wrong, and this "award" should be included?
Oh, and I just realized now that Lovell was considered a runner-up - so he didn't really receive the "award" to begin with. = paul2520 (talk) 18:10, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

If this is wrong......
Earlier you placed a semi on The Shield article here, a user removed it here while adding more inaccurate info, I went and restored your previous edit here. If my restoring of this is wrong please let me know, Thanks Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 22:18, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- @WarMachineWildThing: All good! -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 08:56, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
The semi you placed on The Shield article expires on Nov 6 I believe. Can that be extended? Because if the whole Kurt Angle/Shield member false info thing wasnt bad enough now there is this. I suspect there will be edits in mass to the Shield article and it will either because an edit war with editors and IPs or worse someone is gonna get 3RR trying to end the nonsense. Per current consensus If you look at the talk page under Kurt Angle you will see where several folks said No to Angle being a member which him being added over and over by IPs is what started the semi protect because it's false information, he replaced an ill member for one night. Now HHH replaced the same ill member for one night overseas and Im afraid once the semi is lifted it will be the same thing all over again for this HHH nonsense. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 00:40, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- @WarMachineWildThing: Hmm, I'm not the biggest fan of extending a protection without seeing if the article can be edited constructively, but I can see where you're coming from. I'll have a look at the situation. It may be worth allowing the protection to lapse, but taking a stance of re-protecting at the first instance of disruption? -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 11:39, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I am Chris I just want to recreate the page called Mayestron (rapper) which you deleted on the 22 February, 2017. The article was created by Papamayani which is now already banned on Wikipedia. Spartan Race
Today I came across User:Jkxyz/Spartan race, a copy of the article now at Spartan Race that you created for dispute resolution back around the start of 2016. The editor whose userspace you created this in has been blocked for legal threats and generally abusive behaviour, and it's likely that this form of the article contains BLP violations. Do you know of any good reason to keep the draft? Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:54, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Ivanvector: Thank you for checking with me, but no, I see no reason to keep it -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:01, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Okay just one more question: do you happen to know where this dispute resolution discussion occurred? I can't find it in the DRN archives. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:15, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm looking through my archives now, as I have a feeling at least some of it occurred on my talk page -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:35, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking, but I've elected to go in a different direction. I'll have a better look at the draft later to see if there's anything useful and then I think it should probably go through MfD. Cheers. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:01, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Ave Fenix Pictures
Hi, I'm an employee of Ave Fenix Pictures, a few months ago you deleted the article Ave Fenix Pictures since it had been created by an editor who worked outside the Wikipedia rules. We think that hiring an editor would be the best option because we do not know how to edit the platform, but we had no idea that the editor worked without following the rules. I want to know if there is any possibility that we propose a draft of the article, to put it to your consideration, we know that we can not edit ourselves directly. Can we have that possibility? We could do a translation of the Spanish version. Thank you..Michael.j.schwartz (talk) 04:08, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Michael.j.schwartz: Hi, thanks for getting in contact. I would first advise you to read through our FAQ for organisations (Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations). It would indeed be possible for you to work on a draft, and I would suggest you do this through the article wizard. If you have any further questions, The Teahouse will be happy to help -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 12:10, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi There'sNoTime,
A few weeks back you deleted the article "Moxie (composer)". Looking at the deletion criteria listed, I believe that in its previous state the deletion of the article was fair. I'm still a novice when it comes to article creation and editing on Wikipedia.
But I think with some more research, article comparison, checking of Wikipedias guidelines and editing, I can get better and make the article acceptable.
Is any possibility that you can access the Wiki markup/Wikicode of the removed article and send it to me? I'm happy to start from scratch on the article if need be but if the Wiki markup/Wikicode still exists somewhere it would be handy to have to start my revisions and editing upon.
Thanks for your time There'sNoTime :)

- @Tomo 557755: Hey, thanks for getting in touch - I've restored the content to the draft Draft:Moxie (composer) where you can continue to work on it. Once you're ready to submit it for review (using WP:AFC), add the code

Nipun Jaswal Page Restoration
Dear Admin,
Few months ago, you deleted a page called "Nipun Jaswal" due to non notability of the author or his books which was a fair decision. However, as the time passed by the author is now listed in google with his books. Do you think a restore is possible? I can try editing the page if you agree. Thanks--Rafiq Marbaros (talk) 08:31, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).
- Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- It is now possible to upload MP3 files to Commons. Only users with MP3 file upload rights can upload MP3 files. [106]
- You can now use live updates for recent changes if you use the new filters. This feature updates the filtered recent changes every three seconds when you activate it. [107]
- There is an experimental onion service for Wikimedia projects. [108]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 5 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 6 December. It will be on all wikis from 7 December (calendar).
- Very old versions of the Opera Web browser are no longer supported. This means that technical development will not be tested to make sure it works with those Opera versions. Use Opera 15 or above or another browser if you have problems. [109]
- Almost 170 wikis with no high-priority errors in Linter categories will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. A few larger wikis such as German and Italian Wikipedia will also make this switch. It will happen on 5 December. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [110][111]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 5 December at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 6 December at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The 2017 Community Wishlist Survey will decide what the Community Tech team will work on next year. You can vote for wishes on the survey page until 10 December. You can see what has happened to last year's wishes on the 2016 results page.
- The Community Liaisons team at the Wikimedia Foundation is looking for active tech ambassadors. This is to make sure the Wikimedia communities get all the information they need about new features and can be involved in the technical development. [112]

Recent changes
- URLs that link to sections on Wikimedia wikis with non-Latin scripts have looked like this:
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Википедия#.D0.98.D1.81.D1.82.D0.BE.D1.80.D0.B8.D1.8F
instead ofhttps://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Википедия#История
. This has now been fixed on all wikis. Old links will still work. [113] - A new tag marks edits where a redirect was created or removed. This still works when the editor writes something else in the edit summary. You can see the tags for example in the recent changes feed, article history, user contributions or on your watchlist. [114]
- If you use Chrome on Android, you can now use the print to PDF button to create a PDF of an article. [115]
- Filter by number of edits or filter by time range have been grouped on a same menu on the recent changes page if you use the new filters. The "View new changes since $1" link is now more prominent. [116]
- Some of the web fonts that were provided by the Universal Language Selector extension are being removed. This is to reduce the load time on pages. The web fonts were added many years ago to help users read text in scripts which did not have fonts or had broken fonts. This is not the case any more. You can check the status page for a list of all web fonts and whether they are currently being used and especially for special requirements. [117]
Changes later this week

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
- Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!
Outreach and Invitations:
- If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with:
{{subst:NPR invite}}
. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.
New Year New Page Review Drive
- A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
- Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.
General project update:
- ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
- The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 8 January 2018.
Problems
- When you import a page from another wiki the usernames of the users who edited the article on the wiki you imported it from are shown in the article history. This should link to the users on the original wiki. A script to fix this caused problems for Wikidata and German Wikipedia. It also created a large number of SUL accounts on wikis where editors had never edited. [136]
- Some bot owners got email about their bots logging in from a new computer. If this is from one or a couple of wikis, you can turn these messages off in your preferences on those wikis until the problem has been solved. If not, you can report more about the problem in Phabricator.
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week. There will be no new MediaWiki version next week either.
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 19 December at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Files on Commons will have structured metadata in the future. The developers are now looking for examples of different kinds of metadata to make sure they are aware of them when they build prototypes for structured data on Commons. You can read more and help by giving examples of interesting media files.
- The Structured Commons team are making sure Commons work with structured data. If you regularly contribute to Commons and Wikidata you can answer a survey that helps the team prioritise the tools that are important for the Commons and Wikidata communities. The survey ends on 22 December. You can read more on Commons. You can also help the team decide on better names for "captions" and "descriptions". This ends on 3 January 2018.
- The 2017 Community Wishlist Survey has now ended. You can see the results. They decide what the Community Tech team will work on next year.

The message I left on your user page has some helpful links in regard to copyright, so I'd recommend having a read through of those. Let me know if I can help! -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 00:27, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

I have the article in my Sandbox, could you check it? (Note since my publication was archived I did not know if I should contact you again. My apologies as I do not have experience in these cases). It is a translation of the Spanish version, with some phrases that I have added, I have even changed a link that in the Spanish version is broken. Could you publish it yourself, or another editor, if you think it's appropriate? Thanks! Michael.j.schwartz (talk) 06:08, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

G13 Eligibility NoticeThe following pages will become eligible for CSD:G13 shortly. Thanks, HasteurBot (talk) 03:00, 2 February 2018 (UTC) The Catholic Historical Society of Western PennsylvaniaHi, It looks like my recent draft for The Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania (CHSWPA) was deleted because of the blocking for copyright infringement back in the summer. Just some background - I am a member of the board of directors for CHSWPA, treasurer, in charge of the website, co-editor of the journal Gathered Fragments, etc. My fellow board member and co-editor, John, had originally wanted as much information on our Wikipedia page as possible. So, we took what we have on our website and revised it slightly - we do own the copyright on that. Well, apparently, that can't be done so I told him that we would try something basic. I finally got around to taking another stab at it, just doing the bare bones and apparently I can't do that either because of the original block from the summer. I had John review what I wrote yesterday and he said go ahead and try to post. I returned to Wikipedia today and found that what I had written had been deleted because of the summer block. If you go to the following website http://digital.library.duq.edu:2012/cdm/search/collection/gf/searchterm/Kathleen%20Washy/field/all/mode/all/conn/and/order/title/ad/asc, you will see my name pop up and you should be able to verify that I am a board member that way. Duquesne University is in the middle of creating a new website to hold past issues of Gathered Fragments, but it is still in early stages and I don't think it is out there for the public but you can look at it here and you will see my name: https://ddc.duq.edu/chs/ There are days that I feel that I am the living history of CHSWPA as I have been a board member since 1992 - 26 years. However, one other board member has me beat as she has 34 years. What can I do to get my bare bones submission into the mix? Below was my bare bones draft from yesterday. Should I chop it down even more? Any advice would be appreciated. Kathleen Washy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kwashy (talk • contribs)

The weekly newsletter was started by Lydia at the very beginning of the Wikidata project, even before the first deployment, to keep the community informed about the developments, the new projects and tools. More than five years later, the newsletter is still there, its content powered by the community, and sent every week all along the years. I wanted to say a warm "thank you!" to each person who helped filling the Weekly Summary <3 Over the past years, as you know, Wikidata has grown a lot. More data, more tools, more editors and reusers, more exciting projects led by the community. The Weekly Summary has evolved with us, and the 300th edition seems a good moment to ask you all your suggestions about the newsletter, how it could continue evolving, and how you would like to improve it. On that purpose, you can find a feedback page to express all your ideas about the Weekly Summary. We're very interested to know more about your reading habits, the parts you're more or less interested in, the new topics you would like to share with the community. Thanks in advance for filling it. I stay available anytime to discuss with you, feel free to contact me if you have any question or concern! Cheers, Léa

regarding Simona FuscoDear Admin TNT, I respectfully wonder if you can consider in light of Wikipedia guidelines deemed exclusively promotional”, like this, if you would entertain a “fundamental rewrite” to conform with as provided below? Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION. I understand that this article originally read much more promotional than I intended but it is in the tone that Wikipedia biographical article pages, currently reference and would presumably link to this article(if published, are using. The articles citations reference reputable sources, including the Los Angeles Times. While appreciate the requisite adherence to neutrality and objectivity, it is perhaps more challengeing to adopt an enclyclopedic style when the tone of the third party and reputable source convey a promotional tone. But it is more constructive for me as an editor ot be conferred an opportunity to make such edits as below and I was wondering if you could provide feedback or consider the following modifications. While I understand immediate deletion for article submissions with questionable notability, I don’t understand why this was not tagged such that I could edit the contribution as provided below. salvaged, I think I offer constructive edits below that are appropriate for a new article on a notable subject.
Monologuebaby (talk) 23:46, 4 March 2018 (UTC) JJ at CLA DevelopmentHi! I recognize that I have a close affiliation as the page I am editing is my employer, but I feel that I am using neutral language. I am very mindful as to not use this page for promotional purposes but instead, wish to legitimize our organization online. An issue I am running into is that much of the history of the organization is found only in newspapers/articles dated from the 1800's and early 1900's, when much of the organization's transformational history took place. I'm unsure as to how to cite them when many, as they are of now local interest (though not at the time of publication) are unavailable in digital forms. I am also attempting to correct the information that is already on the page and then begin the more in-depth process of finding these archival-level items. I am also looking at other comparable institutions like the institution I represent who source much of their material from their own website as well. I am very aware of the "other stuff exists" guideline but I am currently trying to figure out how to balance the fact that many libraries and archives keep most of their records for themselves and seldom share these records with major publications. Thank so much! JJ at CLA Development (talk) 14:41, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. What's new? The Collaboration team has announced the start of a new project: In-Context Help and Onboarding. The idea is to improve retention of new wiki editors by giving them short tutorials and other training experiences related to, and triggered by, their current activities on the wikis (that’s the “in context” part). The project follows from the conclusions of the New Editor Experiences research. The work is in its very early stages, but we’d like to hear from people with ideas on the subject—particularly if you have experience supporting or training new contributors. Special:AbuseFilter/825I pinged you somewhere else about a different filter, but wanted to ask you about Special:AbuseFilter/825. You're the only author, and I see the filter hasn't been edited and in nearly a year and is in log-only. Are you still monitoring the logs, or do you know of someone who is? I'm trying to disable old, forgotten filters. Hope all well! — MusikAnimal talk 21:15, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
