Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers
This page lists proposed article mergers (and sometimes mergers of project or other pages) as a supplement to the merge categories; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger template(s) to the pages before listing them here.
To see all articles templated for merging, see § All articles tagged for merging.

When to propose a merger
[edit]There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:
- 1): Mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
- 2): Mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
- 3): Mergers that are controversial, potentially difficult to carry out, or where at least one affected article is either rated Class B or higher or is over 100K in size will need assistance from uninvolved editor(s) in determining whether to merge the pages.
If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group above, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

How to propose a merger
[edit]If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group above, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out a type 2 merge):
- Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the target article (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example
==Merger discussion==
). - Step 2: Put one of the Merge Request Banners (MRB) at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The merge request templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common banners used. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the same section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions going on at two different talk pages). (Merge Request Banners should NEVER be placed on article TalkPages.
- Step 3: If the proposed merge is type 3 (above) follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.)
See: Copy and Paste easy merge templates for easy to follow shortcuts of the above procedure.

Requests for merge assistance and feedback
[edit]If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:
- Tag the article as shown above
- Create a discussion as shown above
- Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
- If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, request help at Merge Talk for assistance.
For other topics:
- If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
- Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have moved an article by this deprecated method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please do not perform further moves by cut and paste.
NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge
If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.

Merge requests
[edit]Please list new requests at the bottom of New Requests section.
- Precede your request with:
*'''Merge'''
(↑ Copy and paste that.) - Enter (at least) a link to the article to be redirected in the edit summary.
- Legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (
~~~~
). Unsigned requests may be ignored. - Please consider helping the project and completing a merge request from one of the categories list at the bottom of this page. Thank you.
New requests
[edit]- Merge Bride kidnapping in Kazakhstan into Ala kachuu. The Kazakh terminology used is similar to that of the Kyrgyz term and is the same practice that is done in Kyrgyzstan. I feel that a few sections can be used for applications and laws against bride kidnappin in each of the two countries. Please review and make the appropriate decisions, thank you! 202.94.70.51 (talk) 09:46, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- No discussion on talk. Arguably the English title would be better. Johnbod (talk) 14:31, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Merge - I suggest something like the above commenter, to merge both articles into a new article: Bride kidnapping in Central Asia. 47.229.123.105 (talk) 05:16, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merge Victoria Leigh Soto into Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting. Wikipedia is not a memorial and does not have articles on any of the other teachers killed in the massacre or the shooter himself. There is nothing special about Soto that makes her worthy of having her own article. 2603:7000:26F0:74B0:CF7:8D75:FA49:8724 (talk) 23:52, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Ernest M. McSorley into SS Edmund Fitzgerald. Wikipedia is not a memorial and he is a classic case of WP:ONEEVENT, only being known for being the captain of the ship the day it sank. The article contains mostly trivial and uninteresting info anyway. 2603:7000:26F0:74B0:7059:C7A4:83DE:D763 (talk) 14:15, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Vengeance and Retribution Are Mine and Nakam. While the book maybe meets the WP:Notability, but there is already a paragraph about it in the article on the topic.Kershatz (talk) 14:40, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Stratigraphy of the Cambrian into Cambrian. The information on the page is contested and now out of date. What is relevant would be better in the Stratigraphy section of the main Cambrian page. Silica Cat (talk) 14:44, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Silica Cat (talk) 14:45, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Maternal effect dominant embryonic arrest into Medea gene. biohistorian15 15:00, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge: Hoping someone can advise, as not sure on this one. I cleaned up Americana Music Association a little recently, but realised later there was a very similar page just for their annual conference/festival- Americana Music Festival & Conference. Most of the content on Americana Music Association was about the conference so I felt maybe they could be merged. There's not a great deal of sources just on the Association so expanding that page didn't seem likely. I then realised there's a third page on their Music Honors & Awards (an event that takes place as part of their conference)- which actually seems to have more sources than the other two- Americana Music Honors & Awards. So now I'm really not sure of best thing to do- three way merge? Or just keep separate and assume they can grow and become more distinct over time? Thanks. Editing84 (talk) 10:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Merge: Chicago Board Options Exchange into Cboe Global Markets. These two articles are referring to the same entity. The Chicago Board Options Exchange became CBOE Holdings at the time of its IPO in 2010. In 2017, CBOE Holdings rebranded as Cboe Global Markets. At that point the Chicago Board Options Exchange / CBOE stopped existing. There is no separate CBOE exchange or legal entity, and there are no accurate contemporary media mentions of "Chicago Board Options Exchange" because, again, that entity doesn't exist anymore. To be clear, I work for Cboe and have been making article edits requests on the Cboe Global Markets Talk page. I have a pending request there about updating the History section that would further clarify this issue. Spencer at Cboe (talk) 21:44, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Edmonds-Karp algorithm into Ford-Fulkerson algorithm. EKA is merely an implementation of FFA that specifies breadth-first search. It's like saying Dijkstra's algorithm with a binary heap and Dijkstra with a Fibonacci heap are two different algorithms. Article on EKA is largely similar and belongs in FFA. - Merge List of Beetleborgs monsters into List of Big Bad Beetleborgs episodes. The monsters' article has no references, its sources are all fan pages, and its contents are mostly fancruft information that belongs on a Wiki dedicated to the show. Whatever little content worth keeping can be added to the merge target as it already has a list of every episode of the show and each had just one monster. 2603:7000:2600:C2F2:A5AD:8845:3064:DAE0 (talk) 21:03, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Merge List of academic fields into Outline of academic disciplines. The lists almost entirely overlap. There was already a merge discussion initiated on both talk pages, but it didn't turn into a merge proposal. The lists are very extensive, and there are significant structural differences that might benefit from discussion and feedback before merging, especially from WP:WPLIST. I'm not an experienced editor and don't know how to get this started. 正负号 (talk) 18:22, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Outgames into World_Outgames. They are both referring to the same organization, but the Outgames page appears to be created for a school project in 2012, while the World Outgames page was created in 2006 and contains much more information. Probably uncontroversial, but I've hit the limits of my editing knowledge just getting this request put in! Raccoon428 (talk) 21:04, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Nashville SC (2018-19) and Orlando City SC (2010-2014) into Nashville SC and Orlando City SC respectively. The two teams kept the same coaches and players. It's must more useful to view them as being the same as the MLS team. There's no promotion relegation in the US but these teams are the same team even if they played on different levels. Note how no such separate article exists for FC Cincinnati's USL years. Gazingo (talk) 15:38, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Merge House of Bokassa into Jean-Bédel Bokassa. Does not fit criteria for a generation-to-generation dynasty, he was emperor for not even three years before deposed, all of the information is in the bio article already. Gryffindor (talk) 10:01, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Semi-metro into Premetro.Consensus was largely reached as preferred solution for merger. Also discussed was discussed merger with Light rail but Premetro deemed more appropriate. Difference is largely a matter of terminology. Both terms describe transit systems with features that overlap significantly Unique and valuable content from the Semi-metro article should be preserved and integrated into the Premetro article. - For consensus, first of all discussion need to take place. However, none of my concerns have been addressed in the past two weeks. Besides that, the difference is that both terms have their own definition. Both the definitions have plenty inline citations from secondary sources. KatVanHuis (talk) 08:08, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- Merge LAN messenger into Instant messaging. No need for it to be separate from instant messaging, unnecessarily fragmenting the topic. The content here is already short and really doesn't warrant its own article. --Sucrehypsy (talk) 18:26, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Killing of Aysenur Eygi into Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi. The details in both articles are pretty much the same (though the Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi article has more information). I suggest after the merge that we keep the article's name as "Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi"; as is the case with similar killings such as Tom Hurndall, Rachel Corrie, Iain Hook etc. Thanks. - Merge Kambojan language to Kambojas#Language and location, This should be redirected to Kambojas. As far as I am aware when I rewrote Kambojas, we barely have enough info for the people, let alone their obscure language. This article doesn't give any valuable info that isn't already mentioned in the more well sourced Kambojas#Language and location. This article also had several poor quality citations, which I've removed. HistoryofIran (talk) 23:12, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Proskynesis into Adoration. Proskynesis is a type of adoration[1] and should have its own section in the page Adoration rather than its own article. At the very top it is mentioned that Proskynesis was used as part of religious ritual for Greeks and Romans and it consisted of kissing the land or the limbs of a respected person. In the Roman form this consisted in bringing the kiss from ones lips towards the statue of a deity with ones's fingers, this is also described in the page Adoration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pincermitosis (talk • contribs) 10:20, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Merge Cutting room floor with Deleted scene; the former article is a definition and does not have much content relating to the topic itself, while the later contains important context that would remove overlap. - Merge New York State University Police with State University of New York. Police article belongs as a section on the State University of New York (SUNY) article, since they are part of the SUNY administration. - Merge Grain to Cereal. The only difference I can see is that the former includes pseudocereals, legumes and oil seeds, and it's alleged on the talk page that this violates our policy on original research. Lophotrochozoa (talk) 22:28, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge Masada myth to Siege of Masada. Masada myth article is a POV fork. There've been enough of these on subjects relating to Israel (these are) that ArbCom has recently suggested "The community was encouraged to run a request for comment (RFC) on POV forks" (see Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2025-02-07/Arbitration report). [edit]After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion: the request should be added to the bottom of this section. - Merge AT&T Corporation into AT&T. I am sorry but I didn't know where else to turn to bring closure. There is a discussion on Talk:AT&T Corporation about merging the two, it was informal. And I don't know how to open an official merge discussion. I would like if someone with more knowledge than me can launch an official merge proposal now where votes are counted and a final decision is made to bring closure to the topic. - Merge Storrs, Connecticut to Mansfield, Connecticut: Mansfield is a municipality in the state of Connecticut. Storrs-Mansfield, sometimes informally and unofficially called Storrs, is an unincorporated community within the Town of Mansfield; it is notable because it is home to the main campus of the University of Connecticut, but the article contains unnecessarily overlap. - Merge Southern Nevada into Nevada. The article is basically a stub; its only unique information, the region definition, could easily be a couple sentences in Nevada#Geography or Geography of Nevada. Its other information is already either in the main article or repetition of information of sub-counties, and if it were to expand, it would be even more duplicate. On a related note, if this becomes a redirect, we should probably have a redirect for Northern Nevada as well. --dexcube (talk) 03:51, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge owner's manual to user guide: Conceptually one is a subset of the other, and content-wise these are simply WP:CONTENTFORKS covering the exact same scope. - You should add {{merge-to}} templates, etc., on the articles as discussed above & make a section on the talk page of one of the articles. Ideally, also make a section with a link to the discussion on the talk page of the relevant WikiProject; I think there's probably one about elections, to elicit people with opinions. The procedure, I think, is then that if nobody complains for a week you can go ahead and do it. Mrfoogles (talk) 18:54, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the hiatus or busy schedule, but got it. I have added the templates. Sculture65 (talk) 17:28, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
Not done. Nominator did not open a merge discussion thread at either article's talk page, and other editors have since removed the merge tags, on 1 March 2025. If nom is sure such a merge should proceed, the please propose the merge properly, with a rationale given in a merge discussion at a relevant article talk page. I would suggest, however, that the idea is almost certainly mistaken, as WP covers elections and the like in separate articles when they are separate events, as these two were (separated by more than 4 months). — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 22:01, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
