Cornelius Autrey (Colonist)

Thanks. Another of his articles has been taken to AfD, and I earlier removed some very dubious material from it. The editor also seems interested in the word white, as in calling people white Americans by piping White Americans to American. I'm not optimistic about him. Orange Mike -- I have removed all the "Peacock" words from the Joseph W. Mountin article in previous edits and believe these resolve questions about the "neutrality of the article." File:IE 11 Wikipedia.png

Hello

I am calling about File:IE 11 Wikipedia.png which you have speedy deleted as "unambiguous copyright violation". I believe I am the original uploader of the image. Would you care to tell me what was the unambiguous copyright violation? Because as far as I can tell, it was non-free image uploaded within the limits WP:NFCC.

Best regards,

They are not

merely mentioned. There are even references that suggest the very conception of magneto was Malcolm X's "by any means" attitude, while that of Xavier was the MLK's concept of nonviolent resistance. Since both the civil rights movement and the comic began in the 60s this is highly plausible. 06:17, 8 May 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ninefive6 (talkcontribs)

I understood that. This still does not make Professor Xavier significant to Dr. King, certainly not significant enough to be part of the MLK template; and ditto for Magneto and Malcolm. --Orange Mike | Talk 08:46, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Is the following permitted?

Over the years, I've noticed all kinds of violations for the biography of John Legend. In this case though, the banners that are placed by external links now have a "new" banner referring to a record company founded by Kanye West, labeled "GOOD Music" by a Grammy Banner-- I have strong doubts that it is permissible, else all the other labels (both prominent and indie) would all have their own versions below all musicians' articles. Would you please have a look at it, and figure it all out? Thanks- it's been a long time, eh? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 22:34, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

That's not a banner, that's a template. If you feel it's inappropriately spammy you need to propose it as a Template for Deletion. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:32, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Aid on re-creation of the article page Merlin Senthil

I see that some time in the past you disabled the creation of the wikepedia page for Merlin Senthil. I ask that you create, or allow creation for that page now. I was asked to create the page now with recognition of his TV show, which has publicly aired. It is currently half way through it's first season. I understand the first attempt at the creation of this page was pre-release of his show and resulted in "A7." However, I just request that you re-contextualize that decision amongst the current circumstances. Here are a few immediate sources containing information about Merlin Senthil. IMDb Show info. I linked it to science fantasy because common knowledge led me to believe that their title would make them more appropriate as a sci-fan club rather than sci-fi club. The IP you just blocked for disruption at Talk;Electronic Harassment

Is a DHCP address. Other addresses they've claimed are:

  • 80.117.21.77
  • 95.252.92.104
  • 87.1.112.55
  • 87.3.91.177
  • 87.6.119.119

Any suggestions on how we can get a range block going? This individual seems to know how to rotate their IP (not that it takes much skill, mind), and seems intent on disrupting the page as much as possible. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 21:57, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Comrade Mike!

Sorry to bug you, but the software is flagging my move of Emmanuel Afe Babalola to the correct Afe Babalola. Long story short, this Nigerian lawyer, industrialist, and philanthropist went to an Emmanuel school in his village, later established a legal firm known as "Emmanuel Chambers," but is not himself named "Emmanuel," so far as I can determine. July 2016 in regards to Pre-Settlement Funding page

Hi Orangemike,

My apologies, I am still learning how to edit and cite on Wikipedia. Perhaps you can help me. I noticed that the external resource for the pre-settlement funding page was broken and have a perfect source for the page. Cherokee Funding offers extensive context around pre-settlement funding. If not as an external resource (to replay the broken www.pre-settlementfunding.com) how can I best cite cherokeefunding.com as a resource for the material? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A block at this point then becomes punitive. We don't want to punish editors, an action which is not within the remit of any Wikipedia editor/admin and which turns away editors, and we do need editors. Please reconsider your block. Best. I'm no fan of paid editing, but when a paid editor realises what is required of them and complies with our requests, what value is there in blocking them? The message it sends out is that a paid editor is better off not declaring their connection - the exact opposite of the behaviour we're trying to encourage. --RexxS (talk) 22:06, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Wallen75/The Postelles requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.mtv.com/artists/the-postelles/biography/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sorry for the Uppercase letters

Orangemike, I certainly didn't intend to offend anyone with my uppercase comments in my Help Desk message. I was just trying to emphasize the reasons for my claims. Gamergate draft

In a recent RfC you expressed a fairly resolute confidence in your understanding of the contours of the controversy, which concorded with how the current article presents things. I believe that article has some significant omissions and weight problems, and have spearheaded a draft that reveals more of the nuances found in the reliable sources. I would be grateful if you would review it and give your opinion on how well it does or does not summarize the significant views published by reliable sources. Rhoark (talk) 15:14, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

The problem with a wholesale replacement like this is that it makes it impossible for anybody with a life elsewhere to do a fair comparison with the current version. I confess myself overwhelmed by the sheer vastness of the draft, and unable to trace the differences and similarities with the current coverage. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:39, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion and salting of Blake Fitzpatrick

The now salted page had a 2nd Afd discussion that did not end with a clear consensus! All you have to do is read it! I was told that if I conceded the overturning of the second undelete by several liars that a new article could be recreated to fix the vandalism from the old article, so I withdrew my complaint and did so. Now all these users have been doing is attacked my new fixes. You actually deleted my new article, with brand new sources, not the old one. The user that proposed your action to delete and salt has a personal vendetta against the page and lied many times during the undelete procedure. Filmfan655321 (talk) 03:09, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
1. You used more words, but it's basically the same article as the deleted one.
2. We assume good faith on the part of our fellow editors around here; slinging accusations of "Liar!" around is not going to get you a very good reception.
3. If you think you can create a valid article, with more substantial references and losing the word "transgressive" (which is neither neutral nor well-sourced), then create a DRAFT, don't just slap a recreated article down. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:09, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Abhinay Banker Delete topic

With due respect, If you don't know about a person's work and contribution towards any industry or field especially in Art where Theatre is one of the most difficult and oldest form of performing arts, you should NOT raise any question on him/work done by him.

We had the same discussion before some months and the decision was to KEEP the article then why are you discussing the same thing again? Can't you read that first before proceeding for 2nd delectation request?

1st one is here:https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Abhinay_Banker

Many thanks

Jaydev Pala (talk) 08:28, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Jaydev Pala (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Jaydev Pala, while specialists in areas are certainly welcome, sources and notability should be shown in a manner which is clear to those who both know the topic and those that do not. To pick an example, an article on an American Football player should be written and sources in a way that would allow an editor from Thailand to contribute in regards to the notability of the article.Naraht (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Naraht (talk) Yes I agree, but whatever have written on the page had been verified by many admins and moderators in Wiki Live chart help. They have done necessary changes and then after have been approved. In addition, one can always EDIT rather than putting a straight tag of deletion. Because am not that much good with wiki, always prefer to get my work checked by an editor/moderator. I do have all copies of previous chat where one had said its all good. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Orangemike. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

This was a draft of a class project at UC San Francisco. I don't understand why you deleted this since it was under my own sandbox. I spent all day on it as a proposal for what I would suggest around legislation for healthcare analytics article, and you just went in and deleted it. Do edits made by a blocked account remain?

Hi, I edited a draft made by somebody else with further sources and resubmitted it. Then my account got blocked because of my username. Will the edits that I made to the article remain, and can the article still be approved if it follows the guidelines, even if the account that last submitted it has been blocked? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.138.214.3 (talk) 08:20, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Adamfkelly

Hi Orangemike,

I see that Adamfkelly has been blocked for making legal threats. I see nothing resembling a legal threat, only the word "defamation". Thoough I am one of the editors who has restored the paragraph that Adamfkelly has been deleting, I consider the block unjustified – I would prefer Adamfkelly to be able to discuss the issue, giving their reason, and preferably a reference, for the deletion. (Of course if a legal threat has been sent by another channel, it's justified, I wouldn't know about that.) Maproom (talk) 09:35, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

"Defamation", like "libel" and "slander", has a specific meaning in law. It seems to me that it crossed the line into legal threat. Do you disagree? Does HE disagree? --Orange Mike | Talk 01:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
I accept that the word has that meaning. But I don't think using it as a header implies a legal threat. I took it to mean "I believe that defamation has occured and I want to discuss it." But while he has not responded, I don't think there's reason do do anything. Maproom (talk) 07:57, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:34, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

HI, Mike. I'm puzzled why you protected this page today. From what I can see, an IP inserted a contentious description without an edit summary, Semmendinger reverted them as Vandalism, and then Littlepurplegoth reapplied it. Five hours later, somebody else correct the spelling, and then a couple of hours after that you protected it. (Then today you part-reverted the change). I don't see edit-warring, so I wondered why you protected it.

Disclosure: I was alerted to this by a discussion on facebook: somebody reported the "Vandalism" reversion, and were predicting tht "there will be a bunch of editors determined to fight the "Vandalism" of correcting "womanizer" to "sexual predator". ... That's how Wikipedia works". I have replied, explaining that it was the anonymous insertion of contentious material without an edit summary which almost certainly triggered Semmendinger to revert it as vandalism, but that the reinsertion by a logged in editor has been retained. --ColinFine (talk) 23:55, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Well, if you feel that I over-reacted, I'll be glad to notch the protection down. Does that meet your concern? --Orange Mike | Talk 00:26, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Orangemike.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Orangemike. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Question regarding Fandom page

Hi, Orange Mike. I'm so pleased you reached out to offer help in editing the Fandom wiki page. I'm taking you up on the offer and have a question about the sources currently used on the page. The page has the website Fanlore listed as a source but I was unsure if the website actually meets Wikipedia's guidelines for sources; I don't want to use the site in my own editing if it didn't. Draft:International Fall Workshops on Geometry and Physics, Conflict of Interest

Dear Orange Mike, Does it count as a conflict of interest that I am a member of the Scientific Committee that organizes this series of meetings? Of course, as such I am well placed to describe the series, probably better than anyone who is not a member of the committee. If you think there is a COI here, please let me know what I should declare, e.g. "I am currently a member of the Scientific Committee of this series of meetings". I certainly do not get paid for preparing the wikipedia article, and my main interest is to give the wikipedia readership hopefully objective information about this series of meetings. Thanks in advance. Iberian15 (talk) 22:57, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Yep, conflict of interest is not always a commercial matter. You have a perfectly understandable desire to present your organization in its best light, and to let the world know about you and what you do. Openly revealing your COI is definitely a good first step. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:55, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Language like, "renowned inventor, entrepreneur, businessman", "passion for innovation drove his success", "did improve upon existing products until he infamously created a more efficient design", and "Not only was Gust a successful businessman, but he was appreciative of the country around him" has no place in an encyclopedia. A completely new draft without all the "goshwowoboy" phrasing and peacock words might stand a better chance of surviving. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:40, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, OrangeMike -- thank you for your helpful input on Skip Burkle's page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Skip_Burkle. Could you give a specific example of missing proper inline references and inline links which you identified as the problem there?

Also, what other issues do you see that need work / correction? It'll be much appreciated if you could point to specific problematic instances as illustrative examples, since it is more understandable that way.

Thanks in advance.EMAgain (talk) 21:42, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, Orange Mike. Can you be more specific and show the instances of the objectionable and non-neutral language as you see them in the draft?EMAgain (talk) 05:04, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Some of it is gone; but I still see the paragraph "Burkle's vision was to have the CFE serve as a civilian-led research and training institute that would enhance the capacity of the U.S. and foreign militaries to operate effectively in humanitarian assistance missions by improving militaries' understanding of the humanitarian ethos, the guiding principles of humanitarian organizations, a rich understanding of the international humanitarian architecture and the key humanitarian organizations involved in humanitarian response. Dr. Burkle hired a highly experienced staff drawn from academia, the United Nations, the medical field, and the U.S. military to fulfill this vision.", followed almost immediately by the unsupported assertion, "Many of the staff Burkle hired have since gone on to play leading roles in a variety of humanitarian organizations and in the private sector." --Orange Mike | Talk 05:25, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

The article is not up for speedy deletion; it is being considered for possible deletion. Notability is not contagious. Nobody cares what socks Donald Trump wears or what toothpaste Kim Jong-Un favors. If there is no substantive media discussion of this company, then it fails our standards of notability.

United Furniture Workers of America

I am interested in contributing a small article on UFWA local 154 (Gardner, MA). This is will be my first time contributing to wikipedia. I see that some other entries of union internationals have subsections for locals (e.g. SEIU). Should I start by editing your article on UFWA or start a new article. Again this is my first time contributing to wikipedia. Thanks Jadudley (talk) 13:11, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Speaking as president of a smaller and even less notable local (AFSCME L. 91), I would strongly advise sticking to improving the article on the international first. It is tough to argue for the notability of most locals, but the internationals are more clearly notable. (I have been cautious about doing so, because my uncle Willie Carl was the last international president of the Furniture Workers before the merger.) --Orange Mike | Talk 14:25, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't have lots of information about the international. My main source is the 1989 book Becoming a Mighty Voice. I am willing to add to the article about the international, but I am not really sure what to add. I don't have a ton of info about local 154 either, but feel more comfortable writing about it because I'm here in Gardner and looked into it more. Frankly my priority is to get some more information about local 154 accessible, but if contributing some more information to the general UFWA article first is a means to doing that I'm willing to. Could you give me some suggestions of what kinds of information I should include in an edit of the UFWA article? An outline for example? I could just pull information about its founding, expansion, etc from Becoming a Mighty Voice. Someday I plan to head to GSU in Atl to visit the southern labor archives and dig in a little more. I also recently interviewed the current Business Agent for IUE-CWA 81-154 the successor local to UFWA local 154 (he's also the manager for the old UFWA union hall in Gardner) but I know a primary source document like that can't be a source for wikipedia. Any suggestions about how I might move forward would be much appreciated. Thanks Jadudley (talk) 15:37, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Mighty Voice is a fair start, but there's all the content in the books which it references. There's a fair amount in libraries about the founding era, the role of the UFW in CIO/AFL rivalries, and the ugly period when the UFW purged their militant/commie (depends on who you believe) element. 154 may be important in and around Gardner, but I'm skeptical about whether it really meets our standards for notability of an organization. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:45, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your help thinking about this. It seems like this would be a much bigger project than I can take on. I think I'll just keep poking around and see what I can learn about local 154 but not worry about trying to contribute to wikipedia. I didn't realize there were other books in addition to Becoming A Mighty Voice I'll have to keep looking. Thanks again. Jadudley (talk) 18:25, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Underwood International College

Dear Orangemike,

Last year you successfully stopped vandalism in the article Underwood International College, Yonsei University. However, the vandalism started again in 5-6 March 2017. 5 March modifications seem to be made by a COI user and 6 March modifications were geolocated to Yonsei University. These modifications aimed to remove secondary source information which criticizes the college. Could you please check the modifications and protect the page if you consider it necessary? Thank you!

Hope I didn't upset you

Feel free to talk to me here or at my page. Your removal was out of order as I explained, ironically in the comment you removed. I suspect you were not aware of context. Endercase (talk) 02:36, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

No upset; but you need to pick the most appropriate place, and discuss it there. Your comment, in addition to being a violation of the closing instructions, made no sense whatsoever. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:41, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, bit confused are you an authoritarian anarchist? The red and black plus the tax the rich. Anyway, why should I obey their instructions? Are you familiar with those particular users? I am. Endercase (talk) 03:07, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Anarchism works when the participants follow a set of mutually-accepted rules. I feel that you overstepped those boundaries for no useful purpose. --Orange Mike | Talk 07:26, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Alright, so particulars. Have you read the discussions that led to those posts? In this case, a number of users are enforcing a sitewide ban of multiple sources (they do not even have a publicly available list) that was not made following protocol (see discussions). WP:CAN does indicate that in order to prevent wp:Localconsensus one is "allowed" and "encouraged" to post in relevant locations with neutral wording to inform other affected users. Additionally, this was not even a case of Canvassing following WP:DISPUTE when Consensus can not be reached in on a particular forum it is the "duty" of invested parties to escalate the discussion to a "higher" related forum. Whereas NPOV is a pillar and Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard is not, this notified move was well within policy, even if it was not traditional{citation needed}. At best their bans fall under Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution#Community_sanctions but as it is site-wide instead of "in a particular area" it does not even qualify, as such their actions represent a large change in policy, discussion must be made about banning in general as they wp:bold and avoided it. As of now, we have a number of users running around removing all sorts of cited information because it came from sources they don't like. If you would like me to provide you with a list of usernames I could easily do so. But it would not be difficult for you to find them yourself. Find an accurate article (the hard part) from Brietbart, Infowars, or the Daily mail (or a few other sources) and cite it, in short order you will have caught at least 1 editor, that is removing sources and sometimes even information that they could have at least left a citation needed tag on, citing a "ban" that refuses to take context into consideration or even talk about their actions (very bot like). Endercase (talk) 13:30, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

I have upset a number of users with my actions. I stand accused of being WP:NOTHERE on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I'm really sure what to do about it. If I actually am in violation I think the process should play out. However, the only users who seem to think I'm in violation so far are also the ones that have been the most offended by audacity and arguments. As you are a user whom I have interacted with, your input on either side of the issue would be helpful. Thank you for your time. Endercase (talk) 00:16, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Ender, you're accomplishing nothing but the waste of time and energy by defending indefensible sources of lies and deception. When people point this out, you wiki-lawyer and whinge. That does seem to smell of NOTHERE. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:00, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Orange, I was not attempting to wiki lawyer, I was trying to debate. I was not aware this is closer to a Quaker community than a Jewish one in terms of disagreements. I am now. Thank You for attempting to assume good faith and not outright saying my behavior is NOTHERE. You can close this discussion if you would like (I'm still not clear on how personal talk pages work as far as closes and such). Endercase (talk) 06:24, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of Merchant & Gould Page

Hello,

It has just come to my attention that the page for Merchant & Gould was deleted. I was able to find the deletion record and note that it has been gone for several years.

  • 17:56, 11 August 2014 Orangemike (talk | contribs) deleted page Merchant & Gould (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)

I would like to recreate our page, but I would first like to know what caused it to be considered "unambiguous advertising or promotion" to ensure we do not violate any rules again.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Kind regards, Misty Mborgmisterek (talk) 19:20, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

The article was created by an account named User:Merchantandgouldlawfirm. It consisted in large part of a detailed catalog of the kinds of IP law services it offers; and the only sources were the firm's own website. There was a lot of bragging, and not a whisper of actual reliable third-party sources. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:54, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Meaningful Broadband Model (talk) 20:02, 26 March 2017 (UTC) Dear Orangemike (or another reviewer) of the Meaningful Broadband Model post. In our last feedback from you on behalf of Wikipedia, you said that you would be willing to unblock "meaningful broadband" if the name is changed. So we changed it to Meaningful Broadband Model. But that also was blocked, without an explanation. Please unblock the site or explain why it is now being blocked. I believe we have met your concerns by demonstrating that: Meaningful Broadband is not a self-promoting business but an academically led trend that has that has academic and political traction in Asian nations and intergovernmental organizations, such as World Bank. We have changed the name of the entry, from Meaningful Broadband to Meaningful Broadband Model to clarify that this is not a label fair a business but for a framework for test-market deployment that addresses ethical concerns of great interest to the Wikipedia readership. The entry includes references from third parties and publishers who are commenting on Meaningful Broadband and its implications, particularly among Islamic nations, as Indonesia is the primary country of deployment.

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

Questions on WikiProject Science Fiction

Dear Orange Mike: We met at Worldcon last year and talked briefly. I've decided to become more active again on Wikipedia and was curious why WikiProject Science Fiction seems to have become inactive. Come forward if you are an Expert try to prove that this Hypothesis is wrong or try to bring real experts in Life sciences in support for you...

Adding to another article

Hey, the organization that I work for has a sister organization that has a Wikipedia article published. Would we be breaking the rules if I added to their page and put information about our site? For example, they are headquartered in the UK, but we are in the US. Would it be possible to have a section about the US site on the same page?

--Wash1875 (talk) 18:48, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Due to your conflict of interest, it would be best to make the suggestion on the talk page of the article about the UK organization, fully disclosing your conflict of interest when you do so. Unless the one organization controls the other, however, the other editors may decide that this would be inappropriate. Again, discuss it; that's part of what talk pages are for. --Orange Mike | Talk 04:13, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Restored so that I can reply

Hey orangemike. Not sure why you felt the need to not answer my question with your dismissive missive but the fact is a reviewer has already said they will APPROVE the article because it does meet the notability requirements. I assume you are not an entertainment professional. But read the comments and the history of the page. Wiki has tons of Broadway folks less notable with less citations and support that have pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parplaywright (talkcontribs) 02:43, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I was trying to clarify that you need to set your priorities. I don't want to see you disappointed by submitting an article draft and getting it rejected. The problem is that there are plenty of folks with Equity and SAG cards who don't quite meet our standards of notability. (Me? I'm married to a WGA/IATSE dual card holder; never trod the boards since high school myself, but know enough not to whistle backstage or name the Scottish play.) --Orange Mike | Talk 04:33, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

No hurt feelings. I'm a former professor and first industry liaison at NYU TISCH School so I wouldn't be creating a page for an actor or actress unless they were notable. An Equity and (more accurately) a SAG-AFTRA card ( both of which I carry) are not what we're talking about here. I've worked with DeNiro and LuPone but I'm not notable. This is an award winning Broadway actress and Symphony Orchestra soloist in this case. Well worthy of a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parplaywright (talkcontribs) 04:52, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

BRG are the initials of Bernard R. Goldberg. Combined with the fact that this s.p.a. was only editing the article about Goldberg, I feel that this was either intending an impersonation of BRG, or is BRG himself. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:42, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
