Your username and account

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Your work sounds interesting, but you may need to rethink your username and registration. You state on your user page, "We are a multidisciplinary group of researchers..." Please see WP:Username policy and in particular WP:ISU. Wikipedia does not allow shared accounts; each account must be connected to and used by just one individual. If there is really just one person using this account, you could request to have the account name changed to something that is specifically yours; one way to do that would be something like "John at Wiki crowdresearch". If there are several of you, you could each create a new account along these lines, or using any username you like. (Some people advise against using your own real first and last names, however.) But your current username appears to violate Wikipedia policy and could even be blocked. (If one of you is from the Wikimedia Foundation, you probably should have known this!) If you have comments or questions, you can ask them here on your talk page; I will see them. --MelanieN (talk) 15:49, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MelanieN: I've blocked this as per below - if there is some exceptional situation going on that you want to deal with feel free to unblock. — xaosflux Talk 16:12, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

The English Wikipedia does not allow role accounts. — xaosflux Talk 16:08, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Wiki crowdresearch, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

A cup of coffee for you!

[edit]
Hello.

I see that you are messaging a lot of Wikipedians.

As a researcher, I presume you know the concept of "survey fatigue". You are attempting to recruit some of our most experienced and busy community members whose time is extremely valuable. Wikimedia community members prefer to keep the community shielded from disruption of their regular activities. Research is valuable, but when people do research, I hope that the researchers try to minimize the extent to which they change the community. When researchers make these kinds of requests, people sometimes ask for more information about the researcher to make sure it is in the best interest of the community. Could you provide more information about your research? I would like to request the following -

  • Can you provide a copy of the human research subjects approval from your universities IRB? The research you are doing is a significant intervention on the activities of the Wikipedia community.
  • Can you talk about your commitment to give back research results to the Wikimedia community?
  • What is your estimate for the most amount of volunteer time that you would recruit for your research from the Wikimedia volunteers?
  • What diligence have you done to minimize having your research disrupt the Wikimedia community?
  • What existing research are you building upon?

Thanks for your attention. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:56, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative to a name change

[edit]

Hello, Claudia! I see that this username has been blocked. You have said you want to change the username, but I don't believe you have actually filed the request for a name change yet. I found the following notice at the username page: "Please note that, due to some technical issues with the global rename tool, no requests will be processed until further notice. This page is already severely backlogged; if you wish to have your username changed, you may wish to hold off on your request until the problems are fixed. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may have caused." In fact it looks as if no name change requests have been acted on for weeks. In light of this, I believe you would be justified in just setting up a new username for yourself and leaving this one blocked. "Claudia at Wiki crowdresearch" could be your new name, if you wish. The only drawback would be that the new account would not be connected to the history of this account. If you decide to do this, let me or User:Xaosflux know, here on your talk page, so that we can reblock this account. --MelanieN (talk) 17:24, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest creating the new account as well. And if you are an existing Wikipedia user that is going to use this as an alternate account that should be declared. The best way to create it would be to log in with your existing account, then use Special:CreateAccount. — xaosflux Talk 17:29, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: This account has been re-blocked per above; you continued to edit after being unblocked for the sole purpose of requesting a name change. — xaosflux Talk 17:32, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • As a renamer, there is a chance the rename could be successful. I looked at the SUL, and believe it might work. However, you would need to be aware that if the rename fails, you will get locked out of your account and both your current username and target username will be inaccessible until a sysadmin fixes it, not to mention it will annoy the sysadmins. So it would be, do at your own risk, and mine.—cyberpowerChat:Online 19:15, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also I see that this user requested a rename. I'm looking at the queued request right now.—cyberpowerChat:Online 19:18, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • If it's easier to everybody I can just create a new username, I don't mind, just let me know. Thank you :)
That's what I would recommend, because of the backlog. If you already did request a change of username (I can't find the request, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place), you should withdraw that request before creating a new one account. Oops, but since you are blocked, you can't withdraw it - maybe you can ask someone else to withdraw it, because you can only edit your talk page! Sorry this is getting so complicated, we don't usually try to make it so hard for new users! and I know you have been trying to operate in good faith. If you need help you might ask User:Cyberpower678 since they know what they are doing in this area and I don't. Renames are way above my pay grade. --MelanieN (talk) 23:36, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you really want to be renamed, and you have patience, then I suggest wait. If you don't have patience, I can risk the rename provided I won't upset a sysadmin, and you are aware of the risks. If you don't want to risk, and you need that account now, just create a new one and I'll decline your rename request.—cyberpowerChat:Online 07:07, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So the sysadmin says it's too risky to run because of the race conditions that happen during the rename. So that leaves you with either waiting or create a new account.—cyberpowerChat:Online 08:03, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The rename tool seems to have been fixed, so I would until we get to you.—cyberpowerChat:Online 06:37, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Existing survey research from May

[edit]

We are working on plans for WikiConference North America atm, and ran a survey with past attendees at WikiCon events in DC and NY. How best I can I share that survey and results with you?

We are also looking for academic submissions to the conference - held here in San Diego Oct 7-10. The Call for participation should be out next week. Would be happy to discuss both. DrMel (talk) 05:55, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lee Ann De Reus requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.calu.edu/events/womens-studies-conference/index.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —MRD2014 (talk) (contribs) 17:42, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Runa A. Sandvik

[edit]

Hello Claudia from wiki crowdresearch,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Runa A. Sandvik for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Melaen (talk) 00:47, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Claudia from wiki crowdresearch. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Françoise Gallet, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Melaen (talk) 01:15, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Some notes

[edit]

It sounds like you're doing a rather interesting project. I do see you've run into some difficulties, though. So, a few suggestions. First, you may want to look up our requirements for notability. It boils down to the idea that in order to have an article about something, we need to have available multiple reliable sources that cover the subject in reasonable depth (not just blurbs or name drops), and that are independent of the subject (meaning not being affiliated with or having incentive to promote the subject, and not simply uncritically republishing material written by the subject such as press releases). I might suggest, since you're rather new to this, that you start your new articles as a draft rather than introducing them directly to the main encyclopedia. While there are still some rules for drafts that can result in their deletion (chiefly, they must still comply with our biography of living persons and copyright policies, and must not be blatantly promotional), they do not need to immediately follow many requirements of mainspace articles, such as asserting and demonstrating notability. That's only necessary when the article is ready to get reviewed for a move to the main encyclopedia. Once you think the article is ready, you can submit the article for a review, and an experienced editor will check out the article. If the article is indeed ready for prime time, they'll move it into the encyclopedia for you. Otherwise, they'll let you know what specifically needs to be corrected. As a final note, please note that articles on individuals should be written in the form of a biography, not a CV or list of accomplishments. I hope that helps you going forward, and do feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Seraphimblade Talk to me 07:48, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Frances Cannon

[edit]

Hello Claudia from wiki crowdresearch,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Frances Cannon for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Some notes

[edit]

I've just deleted Frances Cannon. Sorry, but it just didn't pass our speedy criterion A7 (WP:CSD#A7). The subject was stated to be an art student, and the only reference was to a page at a marketing site. For someone to have an article here, they must be shown to pass WP:BIO, but with artists WP:NARTIST can also apply. Students are very unlikely to pass either of these. In all cases (but especially with biographies of living people) referencing to reliable independent sources is needed - please see WP:RS. Another thing (but not a reason for speedy deletion) is that you posted in Spanish. This is the English language Wikipedia, and articles should be in English. There is a Spanish language Wikipedia where all is Spanish. There are over 200 different Wikipedias in different languages (including Limburgish and Sanskrit...) (and I've edited on at least 20 of them - mostly minor things...) but in at least one of the smaller ones (Luganda) English articles have been posted until they had the time to translate them. Most seem stick to their own languages, though, and while rules vary, I would think all have policies about notability (and advertising and copyright violation, etc). If you have any questions about things here, I'm not guaranteeing to give answers but I'll try (I don't know some areas here, and keep out of them...), and I'm away over this weekend, but MelanieN and Ritchie333 are very helpful. (Type User talk: in front of their name in the Search box). Most admins are helpful, in fact. If you come upon a crabby one, just try someone else. Sanchez Alayeto Twins

[edit]

Hello. I moved the article on the Sanchez Alayeto Twins back to your user space at User:Claudia from wiki crowdresearch/sandbox/Sanchez Alayeto Twins. That article is not yet suitable for mainspace.

  • For one thing, we usually write articles about individual people, not twins as a single entity. For example, George W. Bush's twin daughters, Jenna Bush and Barbara Bush (born 1981) are not covered at Bush twins, but each has their own article. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is about the twins' joint career - as being twins was part of their act for a long time, but they each have separate articles about their own lives. If the Alayeto twins are both notable sports figures, then they should be treated in individual articles, not a joint one.
  • For another thing, the article did not do a good job of establishing notability as sports people. It didn't even indicate what sport they play. It merely asserted they were "Paddle champions" without explaining what that meant. There are many sports that use paddles. It also didn't cite many sources.

There were other issues with the article too, but those were the main ones that caused me to decide it wasn't yet suitable. Work on fixing those issues and then try again. I've also noticed that you seem to be having lots of issues with articles you've drafted. Might I recommend you try using Articles for Creation in the future? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:24, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
