Nomination of Shōnen for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Shōnen is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shōnen until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:17, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I have moved Shōjo to Shōjo manga per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shōnen. My worry is that the article doesn't go beyond a dictionary definition. Would it be better presented on Wiktionary? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 15:55, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Need some help
Do you have any advice for Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Deletion Archive/2016? I am waiting for Yukimasa Obi to close so it is okay that it says "Invalid time" for now on that one, but it shouldnt say that for the others where the start date is "29 November 2016". - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 18:36, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Speculative fiction category being removed
Hello Nihonjoe I ask you to explain to User talk:MarnetteD what speculative fiction because he wrongly removes the category of articles. Because his comments "there is no sourced info in the article to support the cat" demonstrate a complete ignorance of the meaning of the term. For example, his inexplicable editions in articles: Fantastic Planet, Despicable Me, The Magic Voyage ets. After all of the content articles is absolutely clear that they are directly related to speculative fiсtion. Please help you, as a power user in "Speculative fiction theme" recovery my version of this pages, if you agree with them. With respect--Yasnodark (talk) 14:36, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

I believe you "gave" him rights that are included in the administrator bundle.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:32, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- It's possible. It doesn't really matter, though, as it works the same whether it's explicitly mentioned or bundled. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:34, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- Don't you like the elegance of simplicity? Not a big deal but I find it mildly confusing to see the rights rollbacker and administrator together. You didn't even need to "explicitly toggle" extended confirmed user. I don't have it, although something tells me I've edited enough to warrant it. You don't have it either. Anyway, I'll stop being persnickety and leave you alone.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- WP:CRAT#Promotions and RfX closures states "Do not remove the extended confirmed user permission", so I replaced it. If that's wrong, then we need to verify that, and remove that line from the procedure. As for you finding it "mildly confusing" to see those rights together...I don't really have anything to say about that. Simplicity is great, but worrying about it is rather pointless. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 01:07, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Sea of Japan/Archive 4
Hi Nihonjoe
I'm not sure what the first part of this edit was supposed to do, (the second part was to move things into the archive) but it has created numerous requests for "the semi-protected article at Sea of Japan/Archive 4 be created" - also listing it at User:AnomieBOT/SPERTable - Shall I simply revert these to the previous format? - Arjayay (talk) 12:48, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Usernames/ANI
Hey, I had to remove the ANI thread. Could you please report such usernames directly to oversight instead of a noticeboard and if possible find a a checkuser also when you find these names? We apply WP:DENY to these users and the names are oversighted for...the appropriateness shall we say. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 09:52, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- @DeltaQuad: There's nothing a CU can do (other than verify the IPs match). It's a software issue, not a CU issue. The blocking actions are not being logged (or if they are, they are not being logged correctly), and they need to be. This is a developer issue. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:15, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- They are definitely being logged (I can still retrieve them now), just not in the view of administrators or public users, it's a feature of suppression blocks/global hiding. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 17:40, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- @DeltaQuad: The only place I can seem them as logged is on the SUL page. If nothing else, something should appear in a public log, even if it's just a "blocked at account creation" note or something. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:58, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- I get that you would wish to see something to indicate a block, but there are very real use cases where verifying a username exists in the first place is extremely problematic. I suppose we could unbundle the suppress options in the block interface (it's just a one box oversight all) to be OS only revisions, only username, only edit summaries, or the whole lot including the block entry. I can't speak for global hiding as I'm not a steward and have no idea how that works. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 08:09, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Atsuko Tsurumi
The article Atsuko Tsurumi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No independent sourcing. No assertion of notability. No pertinent GBooks hits. Just nowhere near enough to sustain a BLP.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 16:48, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

March Madness 2017
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:23, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Edit war on Cassandra DePecol article
Hello, I have been following the article Cassandra DePecol for a couple days. I realized that edits I had made were quickly being removed, and was curious as to why, since the information was factual and relevant. Looking back through the page's history, I noticed a pattern: every time experienced editors like yourself contributed information to the page, a user without a user-page would revert it, with inadequate or inaccurate summaries of their edits. These edits were made under multiple user-names that I believe may be sock-puppeting for one another. These users include Test189, Dembun8, and 39ui912. All of these accounts have only been editing the Cassandra DePecol article, and are quick to revert any changes, each time claiming a different inaccurate reason for such changes. None have any information about themselves on their user-pages, and I wonder if they create sock-puppets with user-names to hide their IP address and location. I speculate that the person behind these edits may be the titular figure herself, trying to hide any facts that portray her in a bad light.
I am newer to Wikipedia, and have never dealt with a situation like this before. I am reaching out to you because I saw you had also edited the page prior to me and had added information similar to the information I had tried to add. As you seem a very experienced and unbiased user, I figured you might know what steps to take in this situation.
Thank you! Hayleyet (talk) 09:05, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

The Language of Scouting
You changed WikiProject Scouting/MOS to read "These formal guides are used by the Scouting WikiProject. Please refer to them in all Scouting Movement matters regarding capitalization ..." So I followed The Language of Scouting to the letter. I literally searched within it to find the Scouting accurate capitalization for each and every capitalization change I made so that the Wikipedia articles now exactly match The Language of Scouting that the Scouting WikiProject specifically says to follow. Almost immediately after making those changes project member Kintetsubuffalo undid each and every change, labeling each disruptive editing. Each edit summary lists a direct link to The Language of Scouting so no one even had to bother to look it up like I did. Kintetsubuffalo is ignoring the Scouting WikiProject direction to use The Language of Scouting and instead is using his "common sense" or more accurately "whatever they feel like at that moment in time" which is exactly the problem with the capitalization wording on the Scouting WikiProject in the past. Pretty please, with sugar on top, call off the attack dogs. The Scouting WikiProject very clearly directs people to use The Language of Scouting. I did that and yet I am still being hounded and accused of disruptive editing. This is beyond ridiculous. Abel (talk) 05:40, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

No one is editing the article, but offering their opinion on how the article should be changed. There is no reason to close discussion with one-line statement that barely addressed any of the issues I brought forth. All that I said were valid opinion. I ask you to respond to all points made in my comment, rather than dismissing them and abusing your role as admin. (Chunbum Park (talk) 00:08, 31 March 2017 (UTC))
- @Chunbum Park: I appreciate your concern. However, as you are offering no new evidence to support your claims, the notice at the top of that page applies. There is no point responding to every point individually as all of the arguments you make can be found in the talk archives of that page. There is no admin abuse going on as I don't have an opuinion one way or the other regarding the article's name. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:12, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
- I would have posted the evidence if you asked for it. I don't think it's fair to close discussions immediately to squelch any dissenting opinion.
- Hideki Kajimura "To presume that the existence of Takeshima/Tokdo was not known to those people who lived and engaged in farming on Ullungdo for several hundred years is caused by a prejudice regarding Koreans as half-witted."
- "The two families of Otani and Murakawa often expressed that the Shogunate government bestowed Matsushima and also Takeshima to them, but in reality, the government only issued a permit of voyages to the two islands and did not give these islands to them. Apparently, the two are stretching the interpretation in their favor. To be exact, it should be construed as "bestowal a permit of voyage."
- "The word 'voyage' (or crossing sea) means voyage to a foreign country (since a permit is not needed for going to a domestic island), and the fact that the Japanese government issused a permit of voyage to Matsushima means that the Japanese government did not regard it as a Japanese territory." (Chunbum Park (talk) 00:51, 31 March 2017 (UTC))
- @Chunbum Park: Those quotes (if that's what they are) prove nothing about which name is more accepted internationally. Additionally, this is not the place to make your arguments. If you want to post real evidence of which name is more accepted internationally (not just quotes from this, that, or the other person rambling on about nothing in particular to do with the topic at hand), then do so at Talk:Liancourt Rocks. - I don't want to make arguments on your talk page. I want to continue the discussion on Liancourt Rocks talk page. You cannot filter out only what you want to hear. There are two main set of arguments for the claim to Liancourt Rocks, and they are 1) historical and 2) international law. South Korea has much stronger case in both. The Wikipedia article should reflect this reality. As long as Wikipedia continues to use Liancourt Rocks, when it has a huge influence that feeds into how the name is used in other sources, and the other sources feed into how the name is used on Wikipedia, there will continue to be a feedback loop that wrongly reflects on the reality that South Korea has a stronger case per historical evidence and international law. I am demanding multiple changes to the article that reflect this reality, not just a name change. (Chunbum Park (talk) 16:14, 31 March 2017 (UTC))
- And I am not demanding that everything be suddenly changed my way. I am demanding you to open up discussion to test consensus and reason, so we can make small changes, one at a time, that are sensible. I got article approved on Citizendium on Liancourt Rocks because what I did was reasonable. (Chunbum Park (talk) 16:16, 31 March 2017 (UTC))
- @Chunbum Park: You are demanding that, however. Your very first posts on Talk:Liancourt Rocks demanded that. As I've said multiple times now, if you have strong, real evidence supporting a change in international usage (not just the propaganda spouted by hundreds of angry Korean blogs and "news" sites), you are welcome to start an discussion on the talk page of the article to discuss the issue. The same evidence would be required if a bunch of Japanese were demanding the article be moved to "Takeshima". Please note, however, that any sources you provide will be gone over with a fine-toothed comb because this has been a raging topic for years now. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:31, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Draft article Japan Medical Association
Hi Nihonjoe, I've just finished and submitted for review a draft article on the Japan Medical Association Draft:Japan Medical Association. I wrote the article using Japanese and English sources. I'm not sure if it's up to scratch content wise but I think it needs to go into the main space (I think that's what you call it) so that others can develope it further. It is a huge organisation and a lot of work for one person to author. I put some notes on the article talk page as an explanation of how I approached the article source material. Also I think the wiki markup is not so good as I was try to learn this on the fly.
I wonder if some of the other members of the wikijapan project might be able to have a look at the page? I would value any input and would follow through on any advise, that is within my capacity to accomplish.

DYK nomination I think the DYK nomination is appropriate. When I was reading the source material about the 2011 daishinsai I was impressed by the overall logistical accomplishment compared to the Kobe earthquake in the 1990s. I was working as a Sr Researcher in epidemiology in 2011, and when asked what would be the public health implications, we had no biostatistical data to base any recommendations on. Despite that the Japanese nation pulled off one of the most successful responses to mass human tragedy since WW2. I believe that in the future there will be scholarly value in the emerging field of [Disaster Medicine]. Forgive me for pontificating but I'm personally moved not on,y by good, but also by meaningful scholarship. Dr.khatmando (talk) 01:55, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

AWB and dates
Hi Nihonjoe, I saw your message to Colonies Chris. Spot on. We have many pages which do this knid of linking, including the "Main Page" of all things. Every day article (which is analagous to the portal pages he's changing) is similar too, e.g. May 2, so presumably those will all be next in this automated sweep of delinking and date format changes. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:24, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: Perhaps a discussion needs to be started somewhere to discuss this issue (Village pump? Not sure where...). I can understand not going crazy with the links, but I think some people are taking the guidelines far too literally, and not allowing for specialty pages such as the date-specific pages on portals. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 15:27, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Japan Medical Association Journal & Japan Medical Association
Hi Nihonjoe, Thank you for looking over the content changes on the Japan Medical Association article. I look over the timely editing you do after I have expanded the content, and try and learn a what I can from your example. I feel that is helpful for my learning (thanks for your patience with me), and the process feels collaborative as well. I have two things I'd like to ask of you when you have time:
1) I've added a lot of secondary sources to the Japan Medical Association and would like some feedback about how to improve the article further. Do you think the article meets the criteria for B or higher? I've delved deeper into the research than I thought I would, so think I need some guidance in case I'm overemersed in the content.
2) I've also been working on an article for the Japan Medical Association Journal. Would you please cast your eye over this article as well? This article was harder to write than I thought but I'm not sure it can be improved much more.
I appreciate your ongoing support

Thank you.
Thank you for lifting the block on me. I will endeavor to be a proper editor. I have a question. According to the notice on the terminal talk page I am advised not to edit the article. I wish the warning would be removed and I would be able to edit with proper information according to Wikipedia guide lines. If I can not then it seems useless to have an account. What do you suggest I do if I can not be a contributor? Sparky1997 (talk) 06:08, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Sparky1997: The conflict of interest guideline very strongly suggests that you do not edit articles on topics with which you have a close connection. That is the case with the Buffalo Central Terminal article. You are welcome to make suggestions on the talk page if you wish to take that course. You are also welcome to edit other articles, too. There are 6,929,663 articles on Wikipedia, so surely there are others that might interest you, too. If you want suggestions, you are welcome use the SuggestBot to get suggestions on other articles which might interest you.
- Regarding the notice (it's not a warning) on Talk:Buffalo Central Terminal, that will remain there because it's important to note when editors may have a conflict of interest when editing specific articles. You're welcome to follow the suggestion I gave you when unblocking your account if you wish for the other account to be renamed to something else. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 07:28, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
User:Indainstitute
Hi Nihonjoe! I'm just wondering why you softblocked Indainstitute after they placed a copyvio advertisement at their userpage. Common practice is certainly hardblock with possible copyvio warning. I am concerned that the user will simply register a new account and place the same content at Wikipedia again. I must be missing something obvious. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:34, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Because I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. It's likely they own the copyvio text, so while it's a copyvio per our rules, it's not technically a copyvio. My guess is that they just don't know our rules. If they reregister, we can then hardblock them. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:09, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Nihonjoe. I understand about the copyvio aspect. But the user still got no information about undeclared paid editing, conflict of interest, or using Wikipedia for advertising.
- I am not trying to be disrespectful. I defer to your long experience at the project. I am posting here to know how I can do things better. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:42, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Artist Page
Hi I would just like to ask about your reasoning for requesting the deletion of the Gabriel Garzón-Montano page on basis of significance and ask if there is anything I can do to fix or request your reconsideration of the deletion. The artist is significantly prominent with an avid following of 10 million spotify plays and collaborations with artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Drake, and significant media coverage. Among google searches, his wikipedia page was one of the more frequently searched. A previous page pertaining to his info appeared to copy mostly info directly from press releases through his label and images, but my version now been completely unique and independent content. Thank you for your consideration! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jokerinthemarketplace (talk • contribs) 20:31, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Comment about a block
I see that you blocked Jokerinthemarketplace as a sockpuppet of Artassociates. However, Artassociates had been given a "softerblock", and a block notice which explicitly said "please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy". There is therefore no abuse of multiple accounts, and your sockpuppetry block was clearly a mistake. Since it was unambiguously a mistake the account should be unblocked, but i thought it best to consult you rather than just going ahead and unblocking. (Note that this is without prejudice against any future block for any reason other than sockpuppetry of Artassociates.) The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:55, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @JamesBWatson: The abuse comes through immediately recreating the previously-deleted article Gabriel Garzón-Montano that had been created by Artassociates. Artassociates has been changed to a hard block, too (before you posted this). ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 20:57, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Also, Jokerinthemarketplace was created before I originally blocked Artassociates. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 20:59, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- OK, blocking for re-creating a deleted unsuitable article may be justifiable, but that does not constitute blocking for abuse of multiple accounts under the circumstances. Changing the block on the original account does not retrospectively change legitimate use of another account into sockpuppetry. I also don't see how an editor who has been given permission to create another account can be faulted for instead switching to an existing alternative account. (Of course, the alternative account may have been created with a view to illegitimate purposes, but we cannot assume that in the absence of evidence of bad faith, and even if it was we block for abuse of multiple accounts, not for contemplating abuse of multiple accounts.) I really don't see any way of justifying calling this a block for sockpuppetry. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 21:10, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Incorrect deletion of Katfyr Article
Good morning Nihonjoe, I see that you have proceeded to delete the article for Katfyr, but this must have been an error. You stated the the decision is to "delete as the keep arguments failed to establish notability via multiple reliable sources," however multiple sources were included and I explained how these are relevant in my response at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Katfyr. Since the comments in this AFD page are long and perhaps made the decision complicated for you, I have simplified it and added the comments below to make it easy for you to see the points. Kindly, please proceed to undelete the article.
Initially, the article had only 4 cited source at the time that it was moved into this board (for deletion within 1 week), and as a response I have added 5 new sources including 3 from the truly notable sites beatport.com and anime-expo.org, and this has been done to meet WP:MUSICBIO #1. Note that this artist falls within a specialized market and subculture, and therefore some of the sites offering reviews are also specialized and not well known. The inclusion of the well known music distributor "Beatport" and the anime/cultural exposition organization "Anime-Expo", and offering a total of 9 unbiased references should provide enough evidence about the validity of this artist. Nevertheless, thank you for allowing this improvement. pbigio (talk) 16:24, 4 May 2017 (UTC) In addition, to meet WP:MUSICBIO #5, I have included notable mention of Katfyr's multiple releases with major music labels in the EDM industry including Armada Music, UKF Music, Hypnotic Records, and FiXT_Music. I will continue working on this page during the weekend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by pbigio (talk • contribs) 220:43, 5 May 2017 (UTC) "Further additions" - Contesting the Proposed Deletion: Please note that I have added more notability items, including that the artist has made multiple releases, over 18 singles or EPs, via the notable electronic music distribution site Beatport. I have also added information about the artists' nationality, instruments used, and other biographical facts. pbigio (talk) 3:48, 6 May 2017 (UTC) At this point I clarify that for Katfyr notability, as per WP:MUSICBIO, has been addressed by including mention notable work along with reliable sources that have been added (including beatport.com, armadamusic.com, ukf.com, and the website and youtube page for the company PreSonus Studio One. Examples of notable work added include his work with award winning Emma Hewitt and then releasing the associated remixes through Armada Music. The reliable source for this is the links to the Beatport music distribution website. This aspect of notability occurs twice, first with Emma Hewitt's Foolish Boy and then with the song "Rewind." Another example of notable work include the fact that Katfyr was able to reach position number 1 in the Beatport Dubstep Charts in May 2014 with his original song "Lose Control", which meets WP:MUSICBIO #7. For this point, I have also included more reliable sources have been added since the first one was simply a website that tracks Beatport charts, in addition mention has been added to the website for the company that makes PreSonus Studio One which includes many links to videos and other articles which also mention the fact that Katfyr did indeed reach position number 1 on the dubstep charts in Beatport. Another example of notability, which meets WP:MUSICBIO #10 for inclusion in a notable compilation, I have added the work Katfyr did in two music compilations by World-Touring band Celldweller, and released through the well known record label FiXT_Music. Lastly, there has been the addition of a full discography which shows at least 18 different releases that are present on the Beatport.com website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pbigio (talk • contribs) 12:54, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Pbigio: Sorry, but I disagree that the sources were enough to establish notability, and those participating in the discussion disagree with you as well. The consensus at the discussion was that the sources in the article failed to establish notability, so I was required to close it per that consensus. If you think I misread that consensus, you are welcome to start a discussion at WP:DRV. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 14:27, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
- OK this is not a problem for me. But it must be here noted that the consensus did not follow the rules stated on the AFD, where the points must be clearly addressed, and it is not a voting contest. In this case you are agreeing with a consensus that was based on people simply saying they want the article to be deleted without providing any solid proof for their argument. Pbigio (talk) 15:04, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Blond vs Blonde
(copied from here to give context)
Both "blonde" and "blond" can be either an adjective or a noun per any number of dictionaries. They are variants of each other. Your edits to change them to your preferred version constitute edit warring, and you need to stop. Regarding the content of the edits, please do not make edits where you are only changing the spelling of a word when both are perfectly acceptable. If you really want to change them, take the discussion to the talk page and gain consensus for your change. Any further changes like this may result in your being blocked from editing. Editing on Wikipedia must be done by consensus, especially when people obviously disagreee with what you want to do. Thank you. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 15:58, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
- Please see here: https://grammarpartyblog.com/2012/07/06/blond-vs-blonde/ "Blonde" as an adjective is a common mistake but not an equally acceptable word, and I do not appreciate your accusation of edit warring or threat of blocking. And if they had been equally acceptable, you shouldn't care that I change it, either.
- Also here: http://writingexplained.org/blond-or-blonde-difference "Blonde" can be an adjective in British English, but not American English. The article uses the American "Neighborhood" rather than the British "Neighbourhood", for example, and the official Wikipedia guideline is to have grammar be consistently either British or American in the same article. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 17:24, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Noneofyourbusiness: Sorry, but blogs can't be used to clarify things like that. Merriam-Webster, on the other hand, can. Note that at the very top it states that "blonde" is a variant of "blond". Also note that the definition specifically states that it is "spelled blond when used of a boy or man and often blonde when used of a girl or woman". ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:38, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Deletion of TrustATrader Page
Hello, I see you are the editor who deleted the TrustATrader page I submitted for, according to the notes, advertising. Are you able to give me some more specifics as to which parts of the article were deemed as advertising? I was very careful to make sure all of the sources used are reliable and that the information provided regarding TrustATrader was purely factual. Is the reason for deletion the mention of other brands in the TrustATrader group? I hope you can give me some clarity as to exactly why the article was rejected, in more detail, so I can make the necessary changes in order to successfully resubmit. You can of course feel write to talk to me at the article talk page, but as I noted, I will not be interacting with you further there. Jytdog (talk) 06:13, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Jytdog: Well, that's a really good way to get things accomplished. If you can't be bothered to respond, then please leave the page alone. Communication is key to getting things done around here, and if you can;t handle a little heated discussion, then perhaps Wikipedia is not the right place for you. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:17, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah I thought about that. In our brief interaction you have induced rage in me, and that is very hard to do. I have over 100K edits and work on very controversial stuff. Your communication style is overly aggressive and much of what you have written on the talk page is simply wrong. The thing about censorship of the library not belonging on the library page is one of the most ridiculous things I have read in a long time in WP. And I deal with some real freakshows. Jytdog (talk) 06:24, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Jytdog: Yes, sometimes I can come across as aggressive or blunt. I don't mean to, but it is what it is. Sorry. As for censorship of the library, I have no idea what you're talking about. I never said anything about censorship of the library not belonging. For the parts where I did mention censorship, I suggested you add the information (since you've already done some research, it seems). The only thing I said didn't belong there was academic freedom at BYU (which would be better addressed at the main university article) and that all employees enforce the honor code, so there's no reason to single out librarians for doing it. How is that at all ridiculous? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:32, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- I thought about how to turn this interaction around. I get criticized for being blunt too and I understand the value of being direct. If you were writing sensible things I would work through the style. Example. At the talk page you wrote
Academic freedom at BYU: Since this article is about the library at BYU, not BYU itself, it seems that would be better addressed at Brigham Young University, not here.
. With regard to the library, academic freedom = what books are present or absent = censorship or not, which is what I went into later in the comments I made - the first lines in the comment were just kind of a LEAD. Part of the purpose of providing the WL to Academic freedom at Brigham Young University was to make it clear that it is a notable (for WP) topic for the university so is likely to be for the library as well. From my perspective your response was simply wrong at worst or just thoughtless at best, yet stated so bluntly. Rage inducing for me. I deleted several blunt responses before I noted I would be responding here. - You also don't seem to be aware that the GLAM program at the library does not appear to be going well - both the student workers and the lead person appear to spend their time mostly promoting the library, and people have had to spend time cleaning up spammed ELs from them across many articles. GLAM editors live right on the edge of the bad kind of COI, and when GLAM editors go wrong it is awkward and difficult. Kind of like how classes under the education program go awry sometimes. But I have been pondering how to deal with the larger picture. They have a big digital collection and if they could get better aligned to using that to support the mission more broadly it would be a boon. But I am also a bit worried about pushback from them on getting some of the difficult topics into the article. I was not counting on somebody supposedly neutral showing up and writing "everything is fine" so authoritatively nor dressing me down in front of them. You have made the work I have before me on the larger issues around this GLAM program harder, and that is also frustrating. I may not even do it since the ground under me is eroded there now by you calling my statement a "complete falsehood" and your writing "It's (again) good.". An article that fails NPOV - that has nothing difficult in it - is not "good". Argh.
- But back to our little tangle. As I said I am trying to not let my buttons get pushed. If you are interested in the topic I guess we will be interacting but I am going to keep that to a minimum. Please be aware that I try not to write thoughtless things in WP, ever. I am wrong sometimes, sure. And I can hear that. But I will probably just not respond to you sometimes. Jytdog (talk) 07:03, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

- @Doug Weller: No, I didn't realize you were concerned because you've never told me you were concerned until now. All ELs should follow WP:EL. I've never said anything different, so I'm not sure why you "would appreciate a comment from you about this." If the ELs being added by the HBLL GLAM project are not appropriate, tell them, not me. - Hi Doug Weller and Jytdog. I try to follow the guidelines on Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library/Cultural Professionals for linking to our collection. I was sick one day and my student picked up the task before I had a chance to properly explain it to her. In the future I won't be assigning my students to add links. It would be helpful to know which collections are inappropriate for linking--it is rather disappointing to link to a findingaid with no digital content (although sometimes they have helpful metadata). Can we talk about it on Wikipedia talk:The Wikipedia Library/Cultural Professionals? Also, adding external links to pages is not our main work. Usually we are expanding pages of people in our collections, and occasionally nominating them for DYK or GA. - Thanks for acknowledging that you merged the histories. So the article when we were discussing it, was the product of one person with a COI per this diff that you had moved to mainspace. I would appreciate you striking the "complete falsehood" thing on the talk page and adding a note that clarifying that you merged the histories. - So you did. So to recap, you moved the recreation of the article by 1 editor with a COI (diff) to mainspace and merged the history (diff), and you originally say that this is a "a complete falsehood" and even now say that this description was "inaccurate at best" (you have edited it extensively since you moved it, so now it is not true of the article). And you here call my attention to this tiny step back (diff). If that is the closest you can come to dealing with reality, that is a problem. - and about what you wrote here.
- First that was inappropriate for an article Talk page.
- More importantly, you seem to think that COI is something "evil" and that naming COI is smearing people. You also appear to be unaware of what humans tend to do, when they edit with a COI. What they tend to do when they edit is completely understandable and human, but it is generally not good for WP nor our content, which is why COI needs to be managed here (just like it is at any knowledge-publishing institution).
- You have again spoken "bluntly" about things in a way that is significantly incorrect and you have ... complicated my efforts to address the problems at this article. Dealing with COI is already delicate (which is why I didn't just charge in and start making changes but instead started proposing things at the Talk page), and your "blunt" incorrectness is unhelpful. I am asking you now to stop doing this. Jytdog (talk) 16:45, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
- How on Earth was it inappropriate? And how do you know what I think? You're obviously not a mind-reader since that is absolutely not what I think. Your efforts were blundering and unhelpful, and I've addressed all of the issues you raised. Yet you continue to whine and complain about things that have already been fixed. "Official" in a username
I saw you blocked Pranhakarofficial (talk · contribs) for a username violation. Given how common social media it is to have usernames exactly like that for individual use, I was surprised. Are you aware of this being discussed at any length? I'll take it to WT:U when I have the time. --Ronz (talk) 16:39, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Ronz: Because the username (with a typo ("n" instead of "b") was being promotional, and because the username implied usage by multiple people (being the "official" account and all), it was blocked. You're welcome to open a discussion at WP:U that discusses whether such shared-use account are acceptable, or whether being promotional is acceptable. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:23, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
- In the case of Pranhakarofficial , I agree the misspelling is cause for a block. My concern is associating "official" in a username as indicating it is a shared account. --Ronz (talk) 15:29, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
- "Official" in the username often indicates usage by a marketing team. This is a very common reason to be blocked, especially if editing content that matches the other part of the username. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:44, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Draft:Ivan Lam
Hi Nihonjoe,
In regards to the action you took in the subject above.
First of all, I would like to apologise for my carelessness, I did not realise that I was plagiarising from an existing text on another website.
As of now, I would like to have the page back up (if possible), as a draft so that it would be easier to work on it from there. I did not save anything of what I wrote previously in the page. If you are unable to perform my request, then I completely understand and I will start from scratch again.
However, I get this message when creating a new draft, and I am unsure of what it means. Hence, why I am contacting you.
Do hope that you can help.
Appreciate a swift response.

Pukerua Bay School Museum
I am wanting to make a Pukerua Bay School Museum page. I've seen a warning saying that there was one made and it was deleted. I have decided to leave a preview of the page I want to make below.
- The Pukerua Bay School Museum
- The Pukerua Bay School Museum is the only museum in Pukerua Bay. It is also the only museum in New Zealand that is run mostly by children.
- Founders
- It was founded by three children. Their names are Isaac, Paddy and Aurelia.
- History
- The Pukerua Bay School Museum was originally a pop-up museum in one of the founders living rooms. It was founded on the 9th of June 2016. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Da Boz152 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Da Boz152: I suggest working on a draft in your own userspace, say at User:Da Boz152/Pukerua Bay School Museum. Keep in mind the topic must meet the notability guidelines for organizations by having multiple reliable third-party sources that can be used to verify the notability claimed in the article. Additionally, Wikipedia is not to be used for advertising, and you have to make sure you are aware of how your personal bias may influence what you write.
- If you need help figuring that out, I recommend going here and following the directions. I also recommend reviewing the information here as it will help you create something that meets all of the requirements to have an article on Wikipedia. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:44, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
Creation of In The Wake (band)
I recently created a page "In The Wake (band)" that you had deleted. The band is a published and trademarked group in the United States. May I ask why I cannot create this page as I have I have cited references to the legitimacy of the group?
Thank you,

P.S. If you have any suggestions of how I can get this page created please let me know. Also would like to know how every other published musical group has created pages on here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawn Shutts of Wake Entertainment (talk • contribs) 06:38, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Shawn Shutts of Wake Entertainment: I apologize for any confusion, but "every other published musical group" has not created a page here. In fact, music groups generally don't (and shouldn't create their own pages. If they do, they often get deleted as they don't tend to meet our inclusion guidelines for music groups (which happened in this case). "Legitimacy" is not one of those inclusion criteria, and neither is being "trademarked" or "published". I recommend reviewing this page, which gives instruction on writing your first article. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:46, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
Foncmu's username
Hi. You blocked User:Foncmu under the username policy, but I don't agree that their username was unambiguously promotional. It's very common for students to include their alma mater in their screen names, and such names appear to be allowed under WP:ISU anyway. (It's not always possible to tell a student trying to write about their school from an employee engaged in self-promotion.) While the user needed to be educated on the copyright policy, I don't think their username warranted a block. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:44, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Paul 012: Their username was an acronym for the name of the school, so it was clearly promotional. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 08:24, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

- To quote the relevant point underWP:ISU,
Japan Pharmaceutical Association draft
Hi nihonjoe, I hope all is well with you. I've been trying to get the draft article of the Japan Pharmaceutical Association moved to the mainspace by have run into trouble with the reviewer. We had an ongoing dialogue about the page and without notice they deleted the conversation from their user talk page. When I raised the issue again, they deleted that conversation also and pinged me on a thread they created on the talk page of the draft article. That thread contained nothing. I was going to raise the matter one last time, but when I went to their talk page their was a huge argument ensuing between them and several other AfC reviewers. It's all a bit much for me who seeks to live a quiet life...
So I didn't want to bother you with too much to ask but if you get the chance, could you have a look at the Draft:Japan_Pharmaceutical_Association and add any spit and polish you think would helpful. The article is not as comprehensive as the Japan Medical Association article, but most national peak professional associations for pharmacists aren't as publicly active as medical associations. Therefore I thought it best not to labour on it just to make the article longer. However JPA has some notable members including a Nobel laureate, and the founder of Shiseido cosmetics who served as the 3rd president of the JPA.
I always appreciate your help and hope this is not too much trouble. Dr.khatmando (talk) 01:50, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

At the time of this writing, discussion pursuant to the question of the meaning of a word in the talk page of a WP entry on the novel 1984 has been closed, with an appended note explaining that the discussion contained "nothing of value," and according to the same opinion apparently must have posed no prospect for containing anything of value. There is some irony in having to respond to this specifically with regard to an article devoted to 1984. Nonetheless, let me say that I respectfully disagree. This was no "forum discussion" as stated. No discussion was taken into the article. "Newspeak" is a term used in the novel that contains its own WP entry. A reliable answer on point (either footnoted or via passing mention, as noted) that adds anything substantive to the article's description of this term would only add to the quality of the article. As explicitly noted, discussion was pursued throughout with such an improvement in mind.
I see no reason for discouraging follow-up on this topic.
Please try to encourage discussion on improvements (to this article, and to others), rather than discourage it. All the best, Alfred Nemours (talk) 10:56, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- Your discussion was not about improving the article. It was about satisfying your curiosity, which has nothing to do with Wikipedia, as you've been told multiple times on multiple talk pages. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 14:31, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- Editing WP and responding to others on WP is not my full-time job. If others have brought criticisms to me elsewhere that have as yet gone unread and unanswered, I look forward to considering them and replying in due time. Whether you are piggybacking on whatever they might have said or are not--before raising irrelevant, ad hominem claims about others attempting to make contributions to WP, I suggest taking a moment to read and understand what they have written. You first simply disappeared a WP talk page question item and its blocks of text containing several citations without any justification except the phrase "forum discussion" without any explanation. (I would not have even noticed had I not checked back a little while after.) When that topic was restated, you seemed to understand the error, revise your view, and even suggested how a misunderstanding might be avoided in future. After further response, you attempted to close discussion altogether, adding claims about a contributor's internal motivation in posing a question despite explicit statement to the contrary. This raises the possibility once again that you haven't taken a moment to read the question posed (along a few sentences outlining some reasons for posing it, all backed up with citation and fact) before further kneejerk reaction (in this case, with summary assessments about the contributor himself, both irrelevant and totally inappropriate). Please redirect your energy from attempts at wholesale censorship, kneejerk valuations of topics, and gratuitous ad hominem comment on WP contributors to: contributions to WP elsewhere on topics that stimulate your interest. We all have unique interests. There well be many contributions to WP whose value neither you nor me can appreciate. It is difficult to see how anyone gains by simply trolling to call topics that may not spark your interest "of no value" when such energy might be directed to topics or WP entries that animate you. Take care, and all the best, Alfred Nemours (talk) 17:41, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
- Your discussion about "Newspeak" had nothing to do with improving the article. Please take a moment to think before inserting bombastic claims contrary to fact and closing discussions
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I am writing directly to you because it concerns your replies, rather than improvements to WP at large.
You inserted a rather thoughtless reply in the topic above before immediately attempting to close discussion on that topic. This is not advised. In that reply, you again repeated the opinion that "your discussion about 'Newspeak' had nothing to do with improving the article" as if it were fact, and without any basis, ignoring several replies already. You are invited to consider the topic "weird," though calling a topic "weird" to in some way discredit seems to me an especially weak attempt to quash other potential contributions. Your statement that no reliable sources have been provided is contrary to fact. Sources animating the question have been provided and cited, as explained now repeatedly. Lastly the question as to whether "anyone even cares" about the topic has already been answered. I care enough to have raised the topic. And more relevantly, as already shown by passages cited, Orwell/Blair cared. His already cited writings demonstrate a concern about justifications for the violence of states in the English-speaking world. I would have guessed that you of all people would have appreciated this, given your interest in Japan, and given your interest in the themes raised in 1984 sufficient to have apparently led you to the WP entry on 1984.
Please take a moment to reflect before publishing bombastic claims contrary to fact, particularly when the facts have been directly brought to your attention, and before closing discussions to which you have only contributed by questioning whether they deserve to exist. If you have an objection to the relevance of facts being raised, or to something else, fine, but simply pretending that they don't exist or are the product of someone else's imagination helps no one. Basic civility entails avoiding ad hominem. And the peremptory closing of discussion after getting the last word in, I don't know what to say, it just kind of reads as silly.
Please reflect on this in the spirit in which it is meant. As always, take care, and all the best, Alfred Nemours (talk) 18:49, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Galkayo page sources and Information
This 174.21.32.153 user is claiming false information. The user is claiming Galkayo city which is divided into South and North has 4 districts which are completely incorrect, This user has in the past undid the work I have contributed to the page and replaced it with outdated sources from 2002-2007. Galkayo has five districts. wadajir, Howlwadaag, Horumar, Israac, garsoor. Galmudug Controls Howlwadaag, Wadajir, south Horumar and south garsoor while Puntland controls Israac, north Horumar, and North Garsoor.
Here are my sources.
Here is a news article about the Chairman of Howlwadaag district discussing a brand new market opened in Howlwadaag district (Controlled and Administrated By Galmudug) [1]
Here is another News article about the residents of Horumar district helping construction workers on Galkayo-Hobyo road construction by providing Food and other needs. [2]
The Mayor of Mudug for Galmudug attending a newly multi-sports complex opened in Garsoor District[3]
Lastly but not least, here is an English source where the districts of Galkayo are mentioned. (South Galkayo is the Galmudug part and North Galkayo is Puntland part of the City) [4]
As I said many times before, I am only on that page to contribute while the other user is not contributing But wants to keep false and outdated sources and information on that page. Talk to Mohamed958543 09:20, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

ANI premature closure?
Hi Nihonjoe,
I believe you closed this ANI prematurely, so I would appreciate some clarification. In your explanation, you wrote in part: "follow the directions at WP:DISPUTE. This is one of the last steps listed there, and I know you haven't taken all the others." The primary concern of this dispute, per the ANI, was conduct, not content. So WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE applies. While the user's conduct was indeed discussed with the user on the article's talk page, not the user's talk page; the very next step, per that policy, was to "ask an administrator to evaluate the conduct of the user." That's just what I did with the ANI. So I'm not quite sure what you were referencing by saying that coming to ANI was "one of the last steps listed there." Could you please tell me what are the other "steps" you believe I missed? Thanks. X4n6 (talk) 08:01, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- @X4n6: Even though you were trying to focus on the conduct, the dispute didn't seem to actually be about that. You disagreed on what should be in the article, and (other than some rude behavior) that's what it boiled down to. I recommend getting others involved, whether that's a third party, mediation, or the other options listed at WP:DISPUTE. If nothing comes of all of that, then feel free to come back to WP:ANI. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 08:13, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response, Nihonjoe. As I noted in the ANI, the user began an RfC on the content. So I expect sufficient responses for consensus. But again, the ANI, as the bolded sections showed, was specifically about conduct - which your closure, by default - never addressed. X4n6 (talk) 08:31, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
dbdlucas reliable sources
The reliability or officiality of my "source" is irrelevant here, since I wasn't making or pretending to make an objective statement about the nature or history of moe, but, rather, I was filling in the "Criticisms" section, and simply stating that some people have a negative opinion of moe. The fact that that text was written at all is proof that somebody has this opinion. Wether that opinion is wrong or right is irrelevant to its placement in the criticisms section, whose purpose is simply to list criticisms made of moe. Please reply to tell if you're still opposed to my citing this blog. Dbdlucas (talk) 02:42, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Dbdlucas: The reliability of the source is the only relevant thing here. Sources that are not considered reliable may not be used on Wikipedia, whether they are true or not, and whether you like it or not.
