Putting you at contribution

Hi,

Just asking you if you are interested to look for more refs & informations on Miki Tori's Kuru Kuru Karin. You can find my findings on Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Japan/Anime_and_Manga#K. It will be interesting for the Animanga project to get more articles on manga released in the 80s which is clearly in a project blind spot. Thanks --KrebMarkt 21:41, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Creating page for historic hotel, blocked

Can I please have "The Clarendon Hotel" unblocked? The hotel was the site of the 1976 carbombing of Arizona Republic pulitzer-nominated journalist, Don Bolles. It is a point of pride in the City of Phoenix. The page was blocked in just a few minutes when we started creating the page after people mentioned that we should create a page. Other similar hotels have wiki pages: Mission Inn in Riverside, Chateau Marmont, Mondrian, Standard Hotel, Arizona Biltmore, etc., etc... thank you in advance! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benbethel (talkcontribs) 04:03, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

The page had serious copyright violation issues when it was deleted, so I can not restore the article. If you wish to work an article, I suggest creating it at User:Benbethel/The Clarendon Hotel and making sure you do not copy the text from any other location (including the official site of the hotel or its restaurant). You need to make sure it meets the notability requirements by including reliable sources which let other editors verify the information found in the article. Once you have it ready to be moved into the mainspace of the encyclopedia, you can let me know and I will be happy to review it at that time. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:58, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Possible goings-on

I just noticed something here, but I have to run off to a job interview, so I can't look into it. But you blocked Hcc webmaster at 16:13 per spam username. At 16:25, Johnny B. Webmaster was created and immediately started editing Haywood Community College. I can't take a look at whether those new diffs are NPOV or not, I've got to run, but I thought I'd make you aware if you were not already. Useight (talk) 20:13, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Yup, I'm aware of it. I'm allowing it for now because he was wanting to change his username but kept editing, so was blocked. He now seems to be willing to work with others on the article, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:01, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Re template

You caught me just as I was logging out :) I don't have the time to do anything right now (and to be honest I'm not the best with intricate template stuff), but I'll take a look tomorrow if you like. You could also try User:Geometry guy or User:Kirill Lokshin, both of whom are far better at writing templates than I am. Hope this helps, EyeSerenetalk 19:18, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I've already left a note with Kirill Lokshin, and I'll leave w=one with Geometry guy, too. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:27, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

User Christina Mendez is reusing the copyright image of the subject in the article, even after you have told him not to. He also has reverted teh article back to its' original edit reverting all constructive edits. Doesn't know how to create wikilinks after I have shown him how to. Also, would like your opinion to see if subject is notable or simply a vanity page. Is there any way you can help? --XLR8TION (talk) 19:22, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

User:Mujahid1947's name still appears in edit history

You recently changed the name of User:Mujahid1947 to User:Gameboy1947. This request was part of an unblock request as some admins found his name offensive. I was watching the whole situation take place, and it looked like it was finally resolved, but now in the edit history of in Afghanistan (2001–present), his old name is showing up again, and I'm worried he might get blocked again for an offensive username. Do you know why this is happening? This user has shown a lot of confusion with functioning on Wikipedia, so I suspect he might be logging in wrong. AzureFury (talk | contribs) 15:42, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Well, it's his own fault for not staying logged in as Gameboy1947. The new (old) account has been blocked now, so that should get his attention. The block notice tells him to login under the Gameboy1947 account. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:47, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Liancourt Rocks edit

I left a comment on that page suggesting measuring the distance to mainland Korea and Honshu Japan. I got taken by this subject after a news article. I don't know why the distance to Honshu is given with 250km when it's 212km only. The 217km to mainland Korea ist correct though. The Korean article and the English article lists the 250km which cannot be changed. The Japanese article doesn't mention it though. If you find time maybe you can check it out and correct this. NPOV concerns

Sorry for bothering you again ... but did you have a chance to check the references on the Kaba Group article. Thanks EichenStaiger (talk) 13:14, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

The sourcing concerns have been met. You may want to have someone else go through the article and rewrite it to a more neutral tone, though. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:24, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for checking the references. The article was mostly modified on December 3rd because of the NPOV concerns towards a more neutral tone. Do you think it will need even more modifications? Thanks EichenStaiger (talk) 08:14, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, me again ;-) Not sure if you already had a chance ... but could you please check the content again. As mentioned the last time, the article was already modified in December. I would just like to make sure everything is ok with the content. EichenStaiger (talk) 13:39, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Isle of Man Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! Just a note to point out that this image was claimed as fair use, which exempts it from CSD:F9. Stifle (talk) 09:38, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

The image taken from a website which stole it from the owner of the image and then modified it to remove the copyright information from the image (which makes it a copyvio). I am working with the owner of the image to see if we can use one of their images with permission, and perhaps have it licensed under CC/GFDL. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 10:36, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Capitalization

Why is it that MOS-JA seems to expressly forbid using all capital letters or all lower case letters to refer to anything Japanese that uses the English alphabet? I recently wrote Akino Kawamitsu because I was aware that there were a handful of pages that refer to her, so I edited the pages that do refer to her. Then User:MS shows up, and as usual, automatically makes it so everything is capitalized the right way ([1], [2]). Is it really that essential that a page title manual of style be applied to the text of the article?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 22:56, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

WP:MOS-JA#Capitalization of words in Roman script follows the guidelines at WP:MOS-CAPS and WP:MOS-TM. There's no reason to follow weird capitalizations which are only used to draw attention or look "different". Also, that part of MOS-JA is not only applicable to titles, but rather to any incidence of the words. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:31, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

My point is that if I pick any article at random say Glass Mask. What proporition of content is actually encyclopedic and reliably sourced? I can see that the subject i slikely notable but the amount of often poorly written in universe junk that dominates these articles I think to myself on looking at it, this has been written by a kid. Try to see it from a neutral viewpoint. If you cam across this in a random article what would you honestly think. Most of the information is in universe, and if read by somebody unfamiliar with the series/subject it comes across as rubbish. Do you see what I mean?
Boogiepop Phantom on the otherhand is a good article and contains decent encyclopedic content. But then I click the director Takashi Watanabe and its back to one line stub and list again. Your project could sure use more people to write the articles and remove a lot of the fan cruft and replace it with decent paragraphs of referenced text. Best of luck with it. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:50, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
I do look at articles here from a neutral viewpoint (and you would do well to assume that everyone here does unless it is proven otherwise). As Dandy Sephy already pointed out, there are a very large number of articles with only a small number of people actually working on them. They will all eventually be brought up to snuff, but this will take some time. As others have pointed out, there is no deadline for any given article. If you have a bee in your bonnet about a particular article, feel free to source away, but don't expect every other interested editor (most of whom have thousands of articles on their plates, waiting for the time to be worked on) to simply drop everything else they are working on and come running just because you think one particular article is more important than every other article they are working on. People are working on it as fast as they can, and you'll just need to deal with it.
I should also note that throwing around words such as "fan cruft" is not going to earn you any respect here as that phrase has been abused so often that all it does now is show that you couldn't care less about the topic and have no clue what you're talking about. Please don't take that in the wrong way, though. It's just a statement of fact. We appreciate your passion for improving the encyclopedia, but you need to learn to work about it in ways which will actually produce the results you're wanting rather than raising people's hackles. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:56, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
I've said this elsewhere, but I have no idea why your are singling out the project for what is a wiki wide issue. We'd love to get more editors who know what they are doing but we simply don't have them. And those we have are already swamped with things to do. Dandy Sephy (talk) 20:02, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
I understand the issue, it s the biggest problem all over the site. Perhaps its because anime/manga is not a traditional encyclopedic subject so can often be quite difficult to avoid it looking fan based if articles cannot be immediately attended to I dunno. But by the looks of it if content like Lupin III can be produced, we could sure use several hundreds clones of yourselves to write these seiyu and other series articles to the same sort of encyclopedic quality. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:02, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, but the work on Lupin was more or less a rewrite of someone elses work, just brought up to the standards of the time. So I spent around 10 hours over a month of so refining and improving someone elses work. This is becoming a specialty of mine but the important thing to note is the amount of time it takes. I can do a rewrite and expansion in 9 hours IF I have the time to concentrate in it and IF I have the sources to hand and if the original article has enough content. It then takes an extra couple of hours to refine it. It's not possible to do this with articles of individuals for the most part because they lack the sources. Lupin had 40 years of them, but most of the article still relies on one site. We do have one seiyu GA, I believe I can get another within the next couple of months. But most will never be beyond a stub because there isn't enough information to do so. If you wish to discuss it further, please leave a message on my talk page rather then us clogging up Nihonjoes page. Dandy Sephy (talk) 21:10, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Block of DJ15Nario

I hope I'm not adding fuel to the fire here, but I believe you're mistaken in your block of DJ15Nario. You linked to 3 diffs (1, 2, and 3) as evidence that he had logged in as DJ17Nario instead of DJ15Nario. If you check those diffs again, you'll see that he was editing as DJ15Nario but was copy-and-pasting a signature (using "DJ17Nario" for some reason) because he didn't know of the 4 tilde method. I think it's a simple case of new editor confusion on his behalf. And just so you know, I know of this editor from a message board we're both on, but I'm not friends with him per se, nor did he ask me to speak to you on his behalf. Cheers! You're barging around like a bull in a china shop, not caring (or noticing) all the things you're smashing. You need to realize that everyone here doesn't have infinite time on their hands, and that we do not have to work according to your timetable. As many people have told you, we are aware of the issues you are raising, and we are working on those issue, but we are only so many, and we have only so much time to put into this. If you look at what WP:JAPAN and WP:ANIME have accomplished since they were established, you'd be quite amazed at the very significant improvement made in the quality of articles under their watch. Yes, there is still a lot of work to be done, and it will likely never be done, but we are making progress. Then you come barging in demanding (yes, demanding, if you look at some of your earlier comments) that a very large pile of work be done immediately or you would begin AfDs for them (and you did begin some already).
I'm not usually this frank, but where do you get off ordering other people around and telling them how to spend their time? This is a volunteer project, and everyone who participates here is choosing to spend their valuable free time working on articles which interest them in some way. Your methods and approach are horrible, and are never going to produce the results you desire under the timeline you propose. Your proposal is a start in the right direction, but it still has the feeling of you wanting people to do things your way. If you want to encourage people to work on something, it's much better to approach it with something like, "I noticed this issue, and I wondered if anyone else has noticed it? I thought of a couple solutions to it, and here's what I'm going to work on to address the issue." This approach shows that you are willing to dig in and help solve the problem, not just pop in to tell them a problem exists and that they better fix it right quick.
Now, compounding this issue is that fact that you have little-to-no experience in these areas, and therefore little-to-no knowledge about the topics. Additionally, there is the issue of not understanding Japanese. There's not much that we can do to address those issues short of you taking a crash course in Japanese language and culture (and I'm not sure that's going to happen). If you are willing assist (as you indicated in your proposal) with the organization end of things, then those who have the knowledge you lack can work to address the issue. Again, this needs to be done according to when people can work on them, not when you want them done. If that's acceptable to you, then we may have a good combination of talents here. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:43, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Your VOTE 2 vote at CDA

Hi Nihonjoe,

Firstly, apologies for this long message! I may need a response from you directly underneath it, per (3) below.

You are receiving this message as you voted in VOTE 2 at the recent Community de-Adminship 'Proposal Finalization' Poll. Unfortunately, there is a hitch regarding the "none" vote that can theoretically affect all votes.

1) Background of VOTE 2:

In a working example of CDA; ater the 'discussion and polling phase' is over, if the "rule of thumb" baseline percentage for Support votes has been reached, the bureaucrats can start to decide whether to desysop an admin, based in part on the evidence of the prior debate. This 'baseline' has now been slightly-adjusted to 65% (from 70%) per VOTE 1. VOTE 2 was asking if there is a ballpark area where the community consensus is so strong, that the bureaucrats should consider desysopping 'automatically'. This 'threshold' was set at 80%, and could change pending agreement on the VOTE 2 results.

This was VOTE 2;

Do you prefer a 'desysop threshold' of 80% or 90%, or having none at all?
As a "rule of thumb", the Bureaucrats will automatically de-sysop the Administrator standing under CDA if the percentage reaches this 'threshold'. Currently it is 80% (per proposal 5.4).
Please vote "80" or "90", or "None", giving a second preference if you have one.

This is the VOTE 2 question without any ambiguity;

Do you prefer a "rule of thumb" 'auto-desysop' percentage of 80%, 90%, or "none"?
Where "none" means that there is no need for a point where the bureaucrats can automatically desysop.
Please vote "80" or "90", or "None", giving a second preference if you have one.

2) What was wrong with VOTE 2?

Since the poll, it has been suggested that ambiguity in the term "none at all" could have affected some of the votes. Consequently there has been no consensus over what percentage to settle on, or how to create a new compromise percentage. The poll results are summarised here.

3) HOW TO CLARIFY YOUR VOTE:

Directly below this querying message, please can you;

  • Clarify what you meant if you voted "none".
  • In cases where the question was genuinely misunderstood, change your initial vote if you wish to (please explain the ambiguity, and don't forget to leave a second choice if you have one).
  • Please do nothing if you interpreted the question correctly (or just confirm this if you wish), as this query cannot be a new vote.

I realise that many of you clarified your meaning after your initial vote, but the only realistic way to move forward is to be as inclusive as possible in this vote query. I will copy any responses from this talk page and place them at CDA Summaries for analysis. Sorry for the inconvenience,

My vote stands as I did not interpret it incorrectly. My comment after "None" makes it very clear what I meant. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:51, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Changing username

Hi Nihonjoe,

Can you please rename my username, according to Wikipedia:Changing_username#User:WikiJoddha_.E2.86.92_User:Bagh71? It will be great if you could do it soon. Thanks a lot in advance. --WikiJoddha (talk) 20:16, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Please note that I am not the only one handling requests on that page, and that your request will be handled as quickly as possible by the volunteer staff there. As it has not even been 24 hours (and just barely over 12 hours), I don't see what the hurry is. Thanks for your patience. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:04, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Nihonjoe, Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm in no hurry, so please do the rename at your convenience. With regards, --WikiJoddha (talk) 23:11, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Nihonjoe, thanks for renaming my username, but the name on top of my page, or my log-in name, is still "Triztanbenedict". Only my User and User talk page are named "Triztan Benedict". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Triztanbenedict (talkcontribs) 04:25, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
You need to logout of your Triztanbenedict account, then login as Triztan Benedict. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:04, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

User:65.254.165.214

I don't know if you're the right person for this, but it seems that 65.254.165.214 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) has been constantly blanking Negima!? whenever he logs on to Wikipedia. Any long term solution against this guy? It seems that all vandalism on this article is from the address, BTW. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 10:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
