Thank you for coming to WikiWorlds Fair! Claim your complimentary shirt!

[edit]
Thank you for attending! Wiki World's Fair - Your complimentary shirt!
Thank you User:Legoktm for attending the Wiki World's Fair at the Queens Museum in August! A round of applause to all who attended, socialized, gave lightning talks, edited, listened, and toured the Panorama of the City of New York. Thank you to Xavier Robles-Armas and the Queens Museum for having us. For the first time in Wikimania history, we held a T-shirt design contest during the event to generate a shirt for the conference. We are excited to announce we have produced a shirt with the winning design by User:Bagelpigeon. As previously announced, the shirts will be given, free of charge, to those that attended the conference. You are a confirmed attendee and now is your chance to claim your free shirt! If you want a shirt, we need your size!

What size are you? Please fill out this Google form or email: Wil@Wikimedianyc.org (One "L") Once we have everyone's size and we will order them and distribute them at local meet-ups or via mail. If you are out of town, please include your mailing address. The shirts will be available Feb or later.

(User:Pharos, seen here wearing a size large)

Please let us know by January 15 or come to Wikipedia Day 2023 at the Jefferson Market Library and let us know in person!

OTD helper not working (Error 400 and 'The etag for this request is missing or invalid' errors)

[edit]

So, found out about OTD helper today, and I've been trying to work through this month's OTDs. However, when I reached November 9 and tried using your tool to help with it (https://otd-helper.toolforge.org/day/November_9), it gave me a 400 Error, stating HTTP error: HTTP status client error (400 Bad Request) for url (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/rest.php/v1/page/Wikipedia%3ASelected_anniversaries%2FNovember_9/html?redirect=false).

For this first error, it looks like the requesting https://wiki.riteme.site/w/rest.php/v1/page/Wikipedia%3ASelected_anniversaries%2FNovember_9/html (without the ?redirect=false) should fix it, but, y'know, not exactly in a position to fix that myself (and idk if the ?redirect=false is actually there to stop breaking anything else or not so I'm hesitant to touch it myself anyway).

After I got this error on November 9, I decided to hit the back button to see if maybe there was an error in the way I entered November 9 or something, however, upon going back to the sixth (https://otd-helper.toolforge.org/day/November_6 or https://otd-helper.toolforge.org), I was then greeted by a different error message, saying The etag for this request is missing or invalid (presumably something related to the request to wikipedia's servers?). No idea what could have caused that to happen.

It's probably not a clientside issue, as, even on my phone, I'm encountering the same two error messages.

So yeah uhh seeing as it said to contact yourself in case of any issues with that tool, mind taking a look at these problems? Thanks in advance! 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talkedits) 15:57, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's not good. I'll take a look soon but might take me a few days because of the election stuff. Legoktm (talk) 18:44, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair enough. Managed to make a decent amount of headway on the OTDing anyway this afternoon, so there's no rush. 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talkedits) 19:02, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See T374683#10294212. Legoktm (talk) 20:11, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HotMess: it should be fixed now. Thanks for reporting, you managed to find a much bigger issue in the Wikimedia software! Legoktm (talk) 00:09, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, so, uhh, here's the thing. It's mostly fixed (no more 400 errors or etag errors!), but the tool now decides to complain in Spanish from November 10.

You might need to pester The Powers That Be a little bit more 😅 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talkedits) 00:19, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah no, that's definitely a me bug. I'll take a look in a bit. Legoktm (talk) 01:48, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HotMess: November 10th is fixed now. Legoktm (talk) 06:21, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hooray! Thanks again :)

Reminder to participate in Wikipedia research

[edit]

Hello,

I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Wikipedia. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.

Take the survey here.

Kind Regards,

NDAs

[edit]

Well, it goes like this:

  • 3 different general NDAs for Arb/CU/OS; they updated them twice after my first signing, and insisted everyone sign the new version
  • 3 different OTRS/VRT NDAs; again, updated twice after my first signing, everyone had to sign the new version
  • 3 different ones during MCDC work
  • 2 different Communications Committee NDAs. Oddly, I think they both had the same text, but since the committee was reformulated, they started over.
  • 1 and maybe 2 for Funds Dissemination Committee
  • 1 (I think) for Elections Committee

And those are the ones I remember. There could have been more. Risker (talk) 05:29, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you permitted to disclose the fact that you signed a NDA? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 11:48, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's no prohibition on it. The WMF isn't dumb, they know Wikimedians would tell them where to go if they were to try to stop them from saying that they had signed an NDA. And to be honest, there aren't any on the list that are surprising. Committees are often given information in advance of public release, so reasonable to ask people to maintain the embargo. Some committees do work with non-public information (e.g., Electcom doing its own scrutineering) or otherwise sensitive information (we heard about some personnel issues when on FDC), and I think most people would find it appropriate that this information be held quite privately in keeping with the existing privacy policy. My issue isn't signing them, it's that they have proliferated to the point of silliness. Give people one and have them sign off on it yearly if you really want, but this is just weird. [edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
