Did you know nominations/Andrew Brown (minister)
I see that you edited {{Did you know nominations/Andrew Brown (minister)}} to fix some errors of mine. Thank you very much. I see that you also removed the second sentence of the first hooks, saying in your edit summery: "...removed john bit from first hook as we're not allowed two sentences."
I had noticed that Wikipedia:Did you know/Onepage#Hook format says: "The hook (or in the unusual case of multiple sentences, only the hook's first sentence) should end with one question mark. That is because the implied "Did you know ..." grammatically makes the first sentence, and only the first sentence, into a question that needs a question mark." This seemed to me to indicate that two sentances were accptable, albeit unusual. I thought the cited fact of the anticipation of the Brebner work (which should probably have an article of its own) was part of the interest of the first hook, and since I could find no way to get it into one sentence that flowed at all well, i used two. Should this never be done? DES (talk) 14:54, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- @DESiegel: It's unusual as it's more difficult to make an interesting hook with two sentences. Feel free to restore the John bit. If I can offer some constructive criticism that the first hook is not interesting as it requires knowledge of who John Bartlet Brebner was and why it is of interest that he was influenced by Andrew Brown. The second hook is merely a statement that two historians met which is not interesting. The third hook could work if you specify that he's a historian. If you want to keep the first hook: "...that Andrew Brown concluded the Acadian Expulsion was largely dictated by Boston interests, an idea later supported by fellow historian John Bartlet Brebner?" could work to express both ideas. I would also advise that you or someone from the Guild of Copy Editors go through and copyedit the article for spelling and grammar, there are a lot of spelling mistakes. - Cowlibob, thank you. I will do some copyediting, and perhaps ask for assitance. I will consider altering the hooks as you suggest. I am seriously thinking of creating John Bartlet Brebner, there is what looks like sufficient materiel online, which could later be filled out from offline sources. Again thanks. My attempt at filmographies for FLC
After much thought and contemplation, I'm planning on sprucing up Robin Williams's filmography page to meet featured list standards. And I am planning to do one for Doctor Who actor David Tennant. One of my issues though is that both actors have video game roles, so I'm not so sure how to incorporate them. Also should I do it as filmography or a career histry (a la stage and screen). I would appreciate the feedback, and I plan to promote them next March (pending my academic workload).
- --Birdienest81 (talk) 06:43, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Birdienest81: Both of those are very worthy candidates to be worked up. For Robin Williams as his career is substantially film and television it would be a filmography. Tennant however has had both a substantial stage and screen career so would have a career history type list. I have never worked on lists of people who also appeared in video games. I'm not sure how they would fit into a filmography. I wish you good luck with those, they'll require a great deal of work especially for Williams as IMDb as him as having over 100 credits. Removing RT references without discussion or cause
Hi Cowlibob, you removed RT as a reference for an article I was watching, and I saw that you'd gone through a whole number of apparently unrelated articles and removed RT as a reference. You did that without discussion of specific problems that might have been introduced by RT as a source, from either a factual or editorial perspective. I recently did a survey of wikipedian opinions on RT. While a minority of editors believe that RT is never a reliable source, a greater number view it as equally reliable as for instance CNN. The majority view it as an acceptable source for non-controversial subjects, but state it must be used with caution, or with attribution, or with discussion, in certain cases (and perhaps in other cases, not used at all).
My own view is that RT is an imperfect source, but that its biases are predictable in the same manner as many American outlets, and that removing RT without specific cause harms the encyclopedia by removing a more global perspective, and also possibly contributing to a partisan or tribalistic editing environment. Whatever my opinion though, there is no consensus to remove RT as a source without specific reason. Please explain that on talk pages where you want to remove it as a source (and think about the specific problems of using RT for a given, specific claim), rather than removing it without discussion.
Sorry, I hope you don't view this note as accusatory - obviously you're a great editor! I appreciate all you're doing. -Darouet (talk) 21:28, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Darouet: Thanks for the notification. I must admit that I had not appreciated that wikipedia did not currently have a consensus on it. From my off-wiki experience it's considered a news organisation of poor repute disregarding the fact that it's a state owned provider. I shall reverse my edits and hope eventually it's decided one way or the other one day. Happy editing. Cowlibob (talk) 21:37, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just throwing my two cents in here - in the page I was watching you changed references, leaving nothing in their stead - I'd say as a general rule don't remove references - there's clean-up templates for reliable references (though off the top of my head I can't think of one), but removing references is almost always wholly inappropriate. - Hi Cowlibob, thanks for your note! In some cases RT might be a problematic reference, and in those cases finding another source, qualifying the statements made, or removing the statements altogether might be fine. -Darouet (talk) 19:05, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

A few queries
Hello, I am working on Michael Douglas on stage and screen and wanted to ask a few questions regarding it;
- Is Lortel Archives reliable?
- Should archive footage appearances also be included?
- Douglas performed in 2 documentaries related to The China Syndrome which were included in the DVD version of the film. Should they both be listed separately?
I hope you have answers to these questions. Regards, --Skr15081997 (talk) 11:45, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Skr15081997: Great that you are working on his list. Lortel is reliable for Off-Broadway performances, Internet Broadway Database for Broadway performances. I don't usually include archive footage. I also don't include DVD extras unless they were independently notable for some reason, if that was the case you could include it in the notes column for the film. To make sure you've got every credit check IMDB, New York Times filmography as they are usually comprehensive. Hope that helps, happy editing. Cowlibob (talk) 19:50, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Manisha Koirala
I just saw her filmography and you have done a brilliant job. I wish i had grabbed it before you. I really wanted to work on her filmography. I find her extremely beautiful and she (along with Tabu) is the most talented actress from the 90s. Its so so sad that she had to star in B grade films after Company. Bollywood has been cruel to her, Tabu and Urmila (who still can give every contemporary actress a run for their money in terms of acting and looks).—Prashant 15:52, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Prashant!: Yes, she was one of the best of that time period, however her personal troubles got the better of her unfortunately. That and the fact that when an actress reaches 30 in Bollywood, the offers for great roles don't come anymore as you're perceived to be "too old" or have married by then which marks the end of the career most of the time. Multiple wins and nominations
Are sources required for the multiple awards and nominations tables in the Oscar ceremony lists? It's pretty straightforward without the references and it's hard to find awards and nominations tallies for older ceremonies.

Oscar winners markup and accessibility
Hi there,
Thisisnotatest has brought up a concern about the markup of winners in the Oscar ceremony articles at 87th Academy Awards featured list nomination. He or she has a concern that unknown IP users will ruin the accessibility portion by marking the winners solely with bold text. I currently use double dagger to mark the winners, but the more recent lists often are reverted back (and I don't want to start an edit war). Can you give advice on what can be done to solve this problem? I propose using both the bold text and dagger for markup.
Academy Award ceremonies and objectivity
Hello again,
On the 87th Academy Awards ceremony article, I added a subsection under Ceremony information about the lack of diversity among that year's Oscar nominees. Now Nergaal, is asking me why I don't added controversy sections on Oscar snubs. I keep trying to tell him or her that every year there are snubs, and even if several people from credible sources speak his or her opinion about a snub, it is best to leave it to the respective film articles as opposed to the ceremony article in order to avoid bias/picking sides and maintain neutral point of view. I also explained that the lack diversity section is not regarding any specific film, but just a lack of diversity. And I also pointed out that I am able to provide neutrality by providing a rebuttal from AMPAS president Cheryl Boone Isaacs as a way to balance out the argument. I don't know what I should do or how to explain it any further I certainly don't mind removing the "Lack of Diversity" section if it looks like it might create bias. What should I do?

Moore filmography
Hi there. I only just noticed that Julianne Moore filmography is now a featured list - nice one! I took her main article to FA so obviously I'm very happy to see someone else devoting their efforts to JM. It looks like you're good with lists; take her awards article to FL as well then she'll be a featured topic, go on, yeah --Loeba (talk) 22:17, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Loeba: Thanks. I was partly inspired by yours and Dr. Blofeld's good work on the main article. Her awards are going to be tricky as she has won soo many but I agree it would be good for her to be a featured topic in the near future. Cowlibob (talk) 10:49, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
What would you think of making her awards article one big table, without subsections for the separate awarding bodies? I think this would probably be more helpful, as then readers can order it by year, by film, or by award body - all of which are useful. At the moment, if you wanted to know all the nominations she received for, say, Far From Heaven, it wouldn't be easy to discern. I'd probably be up for tackling it but I just wanted another opinion...If so, what do you think would be the best default order? I guess by year? --Loeba (talk) 11:07, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
Later: I've decided to start doing this in my sandbox (I'm not very well and menial work like this is a good way to fill the day, haha). On reflection I really think it's a better, more useful system. I'm keeping the default order by awarding body though, just because it's SO much easier to convert that way. --Loeba (talk) 14:34, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Loeba: It has been done that way before List of awards and nominations received by Laurence Olivier. I can help by adding references. Some of the older awards are going to be troublesome to source. Glad that you're up for tackling the list but wish you well in getting better soon in RL. - Glad you're on board with the idea. Thanks for adding more refs, that's great. And thanks for the well wishes - it's just a bad cold, I'll be better soon! --Loeba (talk) 18:08, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Loeba: It has been done that way before List of awards and nominations received by Laurence Olivier. I can help by adding references. Some of the older awards are going to be troublesome to source. Glad that you're up for tackling the list but wish you well in getting better soon in RL. Cowlibob (talk) 17:11, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks so much for doing the technical stuff, I don't really know about list requirements. A question based on one of your changes: for the "year" column I wasn't sure if I should put the year being recognized or the year awarded. I decided to go with the former, since it seems more relevant to me, and was thinking of putting an explanatory note to clarify this. What do you think? Which is the usual approach? I don't mind much but we need to chose either way. Also, anything that is essentially a "Best Actress" or "Best Supporting Actress" award I am wording like that, regardless of the specific terms an organisation may use, because then it's possible to sort them and see exactly how many of each she has received overall. Same with "Best Ensemble Cast" although should they even be included? I kind of think only her individual awards/noms should be there? --Loeba (talk) 12:07, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Loeba: I don't think there is a hard set rule just that we should use a consistent format throughout the list. I felt year of the ceremony would be easier as what awards bodies consider as films of a particular year varies. Cowlibob (talk) 14:47, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi again,
Having a busy week with school starting again. Could you kindly proofread List of accolades received by The Artist (film) for featured list conisderation. Frankie and I would appreciate the feedback especially since you have done a lot of these lists.

- Instead of making the whole infobox a table, it would be best to make the table starting with Award Won Nominated and ending with the total row a table within that infobox. Also, the total row columns must correspond to the detail columns.
- I'm not sure what he means, and I explained that nominations include both wins and losses.
DYK for List of accolades received by Blue Is the Warmest Colour
On 30 September 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article List of accolades received by Blue Is the Warmest Colour, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the lesbian romantic coming-of-age drama, Blue Is the Warmest Colour (2013), was the first film for which three artists received the Palme d'Or? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/List of accolades received by Blue Is the Warmest Colour. Edits in the article Chinchpokli
Hi, Cowlibob... Don't agree with your comment that article was better before my edits. It was absolutely unfair of you, having it reverted completely and blindly. I would have appreciated had you read content and reverted or removed the unwanted content selectively. Just reverting everything is sheer arrogance, pride of the starts on your talk page i believe. Chinchpokli is the suburb where I stay and I know this area better. Can you please explain me what is wrong in writing the etymology about the name of the suburb? Many many of the wiki articles on city has it.... so I fail to understand why this article should not have it? --Sushant savla (talk) 16:48, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Sushant savla: I assure you that I did not revert it blindly. Please dial down the personal attacks. I can appreciate that you're trying to improve the article. Adding etymology of the suburb should be added with a reliable source WP:RS and shouldn't be original research WP:OR. You can't use other wikipedia articles as sources per WP:CIRCULAR. Adding schools and hospitals is also acceptable as long as they are backed up by reliable sources. A google maps coordinate is not such a source. Also each place should be discussed with a neutral point of view WP:NPOV. A claim of "reputed for the treatment of contagious diseases" needs sources. Similarly "oldest and most famous idol". Temples, festivals can also be discussed but with reliable sources. A section called "important personalities" is inherently not a neutral point of view. Hope it is clear now why your edits were reverted. Cowlibob (talk) 17:22, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
- I really don't understand. Name of the Suburb is Chinch - Pokali, These both are names of the trees in Marathi Language, now what research any one would do on this simple stuff? That's really Funny. I am damn sure nobody would find it worth researching and probably this information will become extinct some day???? just because of English wiki policy of having reference. This policies are really funny at times and needs change. About important personality, even i am not sure whether the thing mentioed about some ex MLA is really worth mentioning or not, somebody had put it so i did not remove! check out te article Shaikh Shamim Ahmed which is not referenced properly, would you delete the things in that article which are not as per policies of wiki?--Sushant savla (talk) 17:58, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
- I've further edited the article to add etymology but this time it is sourced. I've removed the MLA as the article is not about the Vidhan Sabha constituency but the neighbourhood itself which he did not have a particular affliation to. Have added relevant tag to his article. This artcile has tag line with message that article is orphan being nothing links there. Now i have added links, does it still remain Orphan?--Sushant savla (talk) 18:04, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Reference about Etymology
I was amazed to see the book reference of Chinch and Pofali. How should i locate such references for use in the article?--Sushant savla (talk) 17:08, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

Hey there! I noticed this DYK nomination was stalled due to not quite meeting the length requirement, so I added a bit to it which should push it over the minimum. If you could take another look and get it moving again that'd be awesome. Thanks! Nsteffel (talk) 17:30, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
David O. Russell Filmography
Hi Cowlibob, I noticed that you recently updated the David O. Russell filmogrpahy section to better reflect the guidelines of Wikipedia (thanks for that!), and when you did so reverted a change made by AndrewOne that suggested that the film Accidental Love could not be considered an O. Russell film and was removed. I actually agree with AndrewOne, but before making the change wanted to check and see what you thought on the matter! Morganglick (talk) 23:52, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
I am "AndrewOne," Morganglick. Thank you for tagging me; I would have wanted to participate in this discussion. In any event, my argument for Cowlibob is that I removed Accidental Love from Russell's filmography because its appearance among movies he was involved with all the way through is awkward. I fully understand the fact that most directors do not have final cut privilege - but to cut off one's own ties with a film as much as half a decade before its commercial release is far different from simply lacking final cut privilege.
I believe this would be a good time to mention the film Dune (1984). David Lynch certainly distanced himself from this movie, but mostly around the time it hit theaters. His artistic vision was restrained by the studios, as has happened many times, but all in all it was not actually a case of him quitting altogether years before completion. For this reason, I could understand Dune's being listed on Wikipedia as a David Lynch work. (Even though I do not personally like its listing as such, that is acceptable). Russell's situation was not the same. He left the whole project before even having filmed Silver Linings Playbook (2012) or American Hustle (2014). Direction for Accidental Love should instead be attributed to whomever directed the remainder. One might suggest to follow the example of Spartacus (1960): Anthony Mann was removed after a week of shooting, and Stanley Kubrick eventually took over. To whom is the direction of Spartacus ultimately attributed? Kubrick.
What if Russell were to do what he did about Accidental Love four more times over? Would WP policy mandate that they all be counted in his filmography, along with those he had directed fully? If so, WP:FILMOGRAPHY could be quite fallible, and in need of stronger specificity. AndrewOne (talk) 01:29, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- @AndrewOne and Morganglick:I personally wouldn't mind it not being in the filmography section but their involvement should mentioned elsewhere in the bio article. I've moved this discussion to the Wikiproject Film Talkpage as it's a better avenue than my talkpage. [[6]] Cowlibob (talk) 19:17, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
