American Hustle
Thanks. I see that, but Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility/Data tables tutorial#Correct table captions shows non-boldfaced entries in the left-most column. I'm not seeing where it indicates these need to be in boldface for accessibility issues.
In any case, I do want to compliment you on the added refs. Wasn't my intention to remove those. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:49, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I've looked at many other featured lists and they don't use it so I guess it's no big deal. I can understand, it's annoying when you have to revert big edits when you want to keep some of it. Cowlibob (talk) 18:07, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

User:Manveermalhi
Hi. I'd just like to point out this user who's recently edited both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi articles. He has clear INC bias but I'm unsure in how to deal with his edits. Am I able to just reverse all his edits based on him having a bias or is that against wikipedia guidelines on political articles.Cowlibob (talk) 10:57, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out; this person's been on my radar for a bit, but I hadn't been aware of exactly how much POV pushing he had done. However, we need to be careful when removing content she/he adds, because a non-neutral edit, despite often being a problem, is not necessarily adding content that actually violates our policies, even our NPOV policy. For example, I could add the following sentence to the INC article; "In the 1999 general election, the Congress won a 114 seats, its lowest ever tally, which led to the resignation of Congress President Sitaram Kesri." This is a perfectly factual statement, supported by most every source on the subject. But it is not "neutral" towards the Congress. What I am getting at, is that problematic content is better evaluated through WP:V, WP:RS and WP:DUE. The NPOV policy says that we need to accurately reflect good sources. Therefore, content may be removed if has not been mentioned enough in good sources, if it is WP:OR, etc. Coming to our specific issue, the stuff Manveermalhi adds can mostly be removed under WP:DUE. In some cases, it might actually be worth keeping in modified form. I hope that was helpful. Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 15:47, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I have listened to, and completed, all the points that you put forward for the page in order to reach featured list status. Would you be able to take a look and see if any more improvements need to be made? Thank you, KaneZolanski (talk) 18:38, 24 May 2014 (UTC).
List of awards and nominations received by Bruno Mars - FLC
I still have to update some World Music Awards nominations, because the results didn't come all at once. Besides I'm waiting for response by other user to some edits. After all this will the page be promoted? Thank You. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 23:05, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- @MarioSoulTruthFan: The number of people who comment on FLCs has reduced recently and I'm sorry that your list has been a victim of that. It was part of the reason why I commented was to get others to have a look. I'm not in control of promoting lists and for that to happen you need consensus to promote and then one of the more senior editors will look and make a decision to promote or not. As your list has been in a backlog for a long time, I'm sure it's a priority for them. Do not lose heart if it doesn't get promoted this time, your article is improving and each submission should make the next one easier, if it comes to that. Cowlibob (talk) 10:49, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Critic notability
I'd say it depends: Is the IndieWire network of critics paid and professionally edited, or can anyone write reviews there? As for going to Cannes or any other film festival, any freelancer can do that, so it's not really a mark of notability. Given the dozens and dozens of major newspaper, magazine, broadcast (for example, NPR) and even some web critics (for example, Salon), there's not really a dearth of notable critics to choose from already. Hope this opinion helps. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:54, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Tenebrae: Thanks for your reply. According to Indiewire's website, you can join their network called Critic Wire by sending an email to their chief film critic. I don't think you get paid for it. Looking through their directory of critics, it contains a mixture of notable critics who have reviews in the LA Times, Boston Globe etc and others who just write on their website so I'm unsure what their vetting process is. One down, a potential bunch to go. I would say the ones for Her and Gravity (which you've clearly already been working on) are prime candidates to be FL candidates. It seems like you more or less have Gravity covered, so perhaps you focus on that while I focus on Her, then we'll check each other? - @Corvoe: Fantastic news! Ok I'll finish the work on Gravity. In regards to your signature, I'm not sure if it's kosher as some users make think it counts as canvassing. I know the Marvel Cinematic Universe list guys were asked to remove theirs for that very reason. Cowlibob (talk) 16:20, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

- I was just banned for it. It was absolute bull, and is completely not against the guidelines, but a vocal minority complained and bam, banned over it, even though it worked perfectly fine for Prometheus' and Dishonored's FAC noms. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 19:34, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

- "He was the third of four children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and his wife, Heeraben"
That is incorrect. They had six children. It has been widely reported in many different English and Gujarati newspapers. I have the exact names at Family of Narendra Modi. Thanks. Malaiya (talk) 16:51, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Gravity
So uh, I just realized a big oversight with both Gravity and American Hustle's accolade pages. We should have used {{sortname|(name)}} on the first entry if it was a person. This is a relatively quick fix, I just can't do it at work. If you do "Search and replace" on the "Advanced" editing tab, you can taking something like [[Jennifer Lawrence]] and quickly replace all instances of that (in the accolade section) with {{sortname|Jennifer|Lawrence}}. This way, when someone organizes the recipients, it's by last name instead of first.
Does that make any sense? It looks rambly. Corvoe (speak to me) 14:46, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'll take a look at it. Have already started the nom but doubt anyone is going to reply that quickly so we have time. Cowlibob (talk) 14:48, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- Very true. I don't think a change like that would slow the nom down even if it had started, so don't sweat it. It should really only take a minute or two. If you don't get around to it, I can always do it when I get home in a few hours. Corvoe (speak to me) 14:52, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- If it's ok, I'll leave it to you as I was bit confused. I should really get back to revising anyway.... Cowlibob (talk) 14:57, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your suggestions on Military production during World War II. Bender235deleted over 3 months and 300 hours of my work, 40,000 characters of edits, and hundreds of constructive additions to the page. I am in the midst of uploading an enormous amount of PRIMARY SOURCE DATA and he deleted everything done so far as "wikipedia can not be a source for itself". I am enraged. There was not one comment, warning, question, request, or suggestion from this "editor". Can you please reverse all the deletions and keep this guy off the page. There are ongoing constructive edits from several other individuals watching this site. Please help resolve this. --Brukner (talk) 18:31, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

FLC backlog
Thanks a lot for doing that. I've done a few closures myself in recent days, and the process is a pain. It's also easy to make mistakes, as I did when I went to close an active FLC. If you could keep track of newly closed FLCs, that would be fantastic. I'll see what I can do about closing the two stragglers; the Billboard FLC is now showing up as closed, at least for me. Giants2008 (Talk) 20:16, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
@Giants2008: Yes, you need to be really careful. I'll keep an eye on it. Do you know what happened to the person who made the bot which usually does this, it's been a while since it's been operational? Might be worth chasing. Cowlibob (talk) 22:40, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- From my understanding, the person who had handled the previous bot retired. Efforts have been made to develop a new bot for FAC and FLC, but after some successful closures earlier this year it clearly hasn't been a perfect fix. By the way, I think a couple of FLRCs from last month are still unclosed, if you want to have a look. Giants2008 (Talk) 16:08, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Re: Rakesh Jhaveri
Hi Cowlibob - not really sure why you removed text from the page. Could you please explain your issues so that we can work towards addressing them? Thanks - looking forward to hearing from you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sevak.disha (talk • contribs) 10:32, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
@Sevak.disha: Your edit removed the POV tag which clearly does apply to this article. Just a cursory look at the text shows WP:PEACOCK words which introduce bias. Much of the key content is based of primary sources e.g. the website of his organisation which are unlikely to have a neutral point of view. On wikipedia, you should try to state facts and support these with reliable independent secondary sources as per WP:RS. I've started a discussion on the talkpage. Cowlibob (talk) 11:10, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
@cowlibob - I noticed that in your second round of edits to the page, you have changed the number of centres. Why did you do that?\You have also deleted the educational credentials. I am a relatively new to the world of Wikipedia editing, so it would be very helpful if you could explain what sorts of supporting docs are needed to prove these educational credentials. I am working with the Ashram's PR department to provide 3rd party links to address the NPOV clause. Sevak.disha (talk) 12:18, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Sevak.disha: Please look at my edits again, I did not modify the number of centres or delete the credentials. If there is a change it's not due to me. I removed the section titles, the content itself still exists. The NPOV is because the article largely derives its content from primary sources: e.g. the life positive source is an interview with Jhaveri. The intense study/sadhana section is based on the website of his organisation which is also a primary source. WP:SELFPUB (Point 5). It is fine to have primary sources as long as they don't dominate the article and that they are backed up with reliable secondary independent sources (someone not linked to him or the organisation). One of the problems with primary sources are that they have a conflict of interest which can lead to a bias.
- For example: if you were asked to write a biography on yourself, you're more likely to talk positively about yourself whether it be conscious or not. Here is an example of article rated as "good" which is similar to the one you're working on. Rambhadracharya. Perhaps use it as a model? I would really advise you to take some time to read the content in this following link: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, which outlines Wikipedia's policies on biographies.
- Also for future reference, you do not need to add an @name as this is my talk page so I will be automatically sent a notification whenever anyone writes on it. Cowlibob (talk) 19:38, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks a lot for this feedback and for the sample page you provided - really, really helpful! My only concern is that these sorts of formalized studies on him do not really exist. Most of the media coverage consists of interviews, as the press is really curious to learn about him, his teachings, and his disciples. I honestly think it will take years before anyone writes about him in academic journals, etc. So what do we do in the meantime - especially to address the flags? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! :) 120.61.203.215 (talk) 13:38, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
@Redtigerxyz: Hey redtiger. Hope you're well. Would you be able to give advice to this user? They are editing an article on a Jain spiritual leader but the article is mainly derived from primary sources such as the website of his organisation which makes it difficult to be NPOV. DYK nominations
Hi! I recently noticed that you asked User:Skr15081997 to nominate your expanded article Lakshadweep (Lok Sabha constituency) for DYK. It's fine for now to do so as its your second DYK nomination. I would assume that you are new to the DYK process and hence have requested Skr to file the nomination. The Project DYK exempts QPQ for the first five nominations of a user and it also exempts the nominator who has not edited the article for n number of times. It would be gaming the system if you were to ask other editors to nominate your articles after your five nominations are over. I just came in to drop by to let you that DYK nomination process isn't that tough; especially in your case where you have some FA/FLs to your credit already. You can try it once and you would know it and would be able to do it all by yourself from next time. In case you have doubts feel free to ask me about it. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 14:01, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Dharmadhyaksha: First of all, "gaming the system" wasn't our intention. I had planned to nominate the LS constituency article before Cowlibob made the request. I had nominated the Sandra Bullock filmography before Cowlibob would have done. If a user has more than 5 DYK credits then he should do a QPQ whether or not the previous DYK nominations were made by him, so there's no point of avoiding a QPQ review. As far as doubts are concerned, he had consulted another editor and I can assure you that none of us would game the system. --Skr15081997 (talk) 14:25, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- Well, we now certainly wouldn't know what was gonna happen. But i will AGF on whatever you say. Btw, if nominated by other user, QPQ is not necessarily required, but is only encouraged. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 17:01, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Dharmadhyaksha: Hello. Hope you're well. There seems to be a bit of confusion. I merely put that notice on skr's page as a way of saying that I wouldn't mind if he nominated my expansions of articles as he had done so with the filmography one before I had a chance to. I will be contributing to DYK nominations myself soon enough. Cowlibob (talk) 20:23, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Tom Hanks filmography
I appreciate the work you've done -- especially the refs -- but please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers/Archive 9#Director.2C Budget.2C Box office columns in Filmography. Also, the yet-to-be-released note ("key") is unnecessary. It's obvious from the notes column. Thanks. --Musdan77 (talk) 02:19, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77: Thanks. I added those columns based on two recent featured lists (Christian Bale and Jake Gyllenhaal) which had them in, which I hope this list can be in the future but was unaware of the discussion that you've highlighted to me. I've removed the budget and box-office and key. I've retained the director column as I think it's useful for the reader to have a director column in a filmography especially of someone who's had such a long career. Hope that's ok. Cowlibob (talk) 11:57, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Great. Works for me. Thanks. --Musdan77 (talk) 20:02, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Part 2: Again, I appreciate the work you've done. This time my concern is about the lead. I believe there are way too many citations. I looked at the featured filmographies (not everyone but most of them), and the one that has the most is the Christian Bale filmography with 33 (that's about 10 fewer than TH). And, both Woody Allen's and Christopher Walken's have only one. I'm of the opinion that just as lead sections in regular articles generally don't need cites, because they are supposed to be a summary of the main body -- so the refs can be found in the body, the lead in a filmography shouldn't need any, or very many, because if someone wants to verify something, they should be able to find it in the main article. --Musdan77 (talk) 03:11, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77:I've cut the references to 36 in the lead. I recognise that's probably too many citations. The problem I have is that according to WP:LEAD, any material likely to be challenged should be cited. I think this will include his debut role and how he got it, breakthrough role, debut as director, any awards he wins and whether a film was a hit/box office. This information is not included in the main table. Cowlibob (talk) 12:22, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- WP:LEADCITE also says, "The necessity for citations in a lead should be determined on a case-by-case basis by editorial consensus. Complex, current, or controversial subjects may require many citations; others, few or none. The presence of citations in the introduction is neither required in every article nor prohibited in any article." I don't think those things you mentioned would be considered "Complex, current, or controversial". If someone did want to challenge something (and they shouldn't if that info is already cited on the main article), they should put a cn tag there. Otherwise I think so many cites make it look cluttered and harder to read. And, I certainly don't think that more than one is needed for the same sentence. I could remove some myself, but I thought I would talk to you first. --Musdan77 (talk) 19:31, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77: I hadn't thought of it that way. I've just removed all the citations from the lead paragraph if it's questioned, it'll be easy to move it back. I've done a quick check that the main article has cited the info. Cowlibob (talk) 22:45, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

@Musdan77: I'd like to make another significant change to this article. I want to rename it as "Tom Hanks on screen and stage". Currently it contains both films and television roles which makes filmography an inadequate title. I found some sourced content for his stage roles before his film debut which I think are enough to include another table for. Here is what the article would look like after the name change:User:Cowlibob/sandbox3. What do you think? Cowlibob (talk) 22:37, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Well, a filmography covers any visual recording, but live stage/theatre is different. So, I agree with your concept. I would make a few improvements on your project though -- such as chronology. He started on stage first, so it should be listed first. --Musdan77 (talk) 04:33, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77: Sorry for late reply. I've moved up stage to top. I'll add back the categories as part of transfer. Is it good to go for mainspace + name change as suggested? Cowlibob (talk) 17:32, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. --Musdan77 (talk) 18:48, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Cowlibob, as you may have seen, I changed the left-aligned en-dash to the much better-looking centered em-dash. But, an even better way would be to do it like the featured filmographies:Clint Eastwood and Spike Lee, which have columns for actor, director, producer, and writer. --Musdan77 (talk) 01:59, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77: I had thought about doing the "credited as" in that style but was worried that it would add too many columns, I'll make up a mock up of a version with the credited as like that and will see how it looks and get back you to. Cowlibob (talk) 17:08, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Musdan77: Ok, set up a version with the tables in that style, User:Cowlibob/sandbox6, are you happy to move to mainspace? Cowlibob (talk) 23:48, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
- I think that works fine. The only thing I really don't like is how long the Cloud Atlas row is. But, I guess there's nothing you can do -- except to say "various roles" -- but I'm not sure that would be good either. --Musdan77 (talk) 01:00, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Lakshadweep LS constituency for GA?
I recently saw M-147 (Michigan highway). This article is a GA. With a little more work on history and location, we can take the constituency article to GA. What do you think?--Skr15081997 (talk) 11:07, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Skr15081997: Well, it would be the first of its kind. Sure, let's give this a shot. It'll need work on history, location, probably also a section on the demographics of the voters though the infobox does help with that. Cowlibob (talk) 00:21, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- At User:Skr15081997/Toolbox there are full references with archivelinks which you can use in your future constituency related work. For this particular one we can copy the needed material from the Lakshadweep page. I think Google Books will be a helpful source for expanding it.--Skr15081997 (talk) 02:38, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

- @Skr15081997: Had no idea such an infobox existed. I've changed the infobox now. Also many thanks for the toolbox link above will be very useful. Cowlibob (talk) 09:23, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi, congratulations on your recent Featured Lists. In the past few months I have addressed the issues raised during the previous FLC. Response to films and their box office info has been removed. Other relevant info has been added and the number of sources used in the lead has been reduced from 45 to 26. Can you take a look at the list and tell me whether it should be nominated or not. Thanks for your help and motivation.--Skr15081997 (talk) 13:01, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Skr15081997: Aww thanks. Also thanks for the DYK and FLC review. I will look at this list tomorrow and make comments on how to improve it. Cowlibob (talk) 08:45, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Skr15081997: Ok, I've had a look at the article. The lead at 731 words is still on the high side so could be trimmed to around 600 words. Fear Factor and Masterchef could be moved up to fit chronologically. Lead will also need a copyedit which I'll look at doing on Wednesday and I will also help with the trimming. I know the director column is present in other featured Bollywood filmographies but you could remove this and leave space on the right of the table to fit pictures of Akshay to the right which make the list look nicer to the reader. Any important director collaborations can be mentioned in the lead anyway and for the others, the reader can just go to the film's article. You don't need to add date of release just filming is fine. 72&bnsp;Miles --> 72 Miles. The Shaukeens just leave it as Himself and move the extended special appearance to the notes column. Hope that helps. Cowlibob (talk) 19:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- I have fixed a few of the issues, removed the "Credited as" column and decreased the with of "Director(s)" column by using
between the names of two directors. I will add images to the filmography soon and will do so in my future work on filmographies. Thanks for your suggestions.--Skr15081997 (talk) 11:45, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your recent edits and the suggestion to shorten the lead and add images. Certainly it looks much better than it was a few months ago. I have nominated it for FLC here. I hope this time it will receive more comments from reviewers. Thanks for your help.--Skr15081997 (talk) 09:15, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Narendra Modi
Hi. I am doing god & hoping the same at your end.
My changes (highlights) as below:
1. Narendra Modi was born on 17 September 1950 born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Heeraben Modia in a family of grocers in Vadnagar, Mehsana district, in Bombay State (present-day Gujarat). Vivo78 comments: I have infact trimmed 2 lines into one. Check the page currently - Its written in a crude manner mentioning the caste of the person, instead of his parents name. Seeking permission to revert this change.
2. He was the third of six children, consisting of 4 bothers and 1 sister. Vivo78 comments: Humble request, but I add info comparing it with other pages, Comparing this line of mine with Muhammed Ali, the famed boxer -He had a sister and four brothers, including Nathaniel Clay. (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Muhammad_Ali)
3. His family belonged to the Ghanchi (oil-presser) community, which is categorised among the other backward classes by the Indian government.[1] Vivo78 comments: Infact, this is an irrelevant line & is currently the opening lines in the paragraphs.
4. He completed his schooling in Vadnagar in 1967 from B N High School Vivo78 comments: His debating skills were honed here & needs mention here. He stood for student elections too & I wanted to elaborate it later with more citations.
5. In 1983, he completed his Master's degree in Political Science from Gujarat University. Vivo78 comments: The current line in the wiki page "In 1983, he completed his Master of Arts degree in political science" is incorrect, as there is no Masters degree like "Master of Arts degree in political science". It can either be Political Science or Arts.
6. |education = Master’s in Political Science Vivo78 comments: Atleast let me revert the infobox for education, as anyone has to go through the entire wikipage for understanding what the current Indian Prime Ministers education is?
Humble request to go through my 6 points listed above. I like curating pages & contributing to Wikipedia.

On certain occasions (like if a page already exists with the same name), it is not possible to move pages but you'll be told if you can't when you try to move it.
