  • Wikibase REST API:
    • We are finishing the endpoint for adding/replacing a sitelink on an Item for a given wiki (phab:T342987) and have finished the ones for getting and removing a sitelink from an Item (phab:T344039, phab:T344685)
    • We have documented the differences in sitelink data structure between Wikibase REST API and Action API responses (phab:T355659)
    • We fixed the bug where sitelink data was not including badges even when available (phab:T355293)
  • IP masking: We are continuing the work on adapting Wikibase so we don't show IP addresses for non-logged-in users.
  • mul: We finished the user testing and will now work on the remaining blockers for the first release.

Recent changes

  • The mobile site history pages now use the same HTML as the desktop history pages. If you hear of any problems relating to mobile history usage please point them to the phabricator task.
  • On most wikis, admins can now block users from making specific actions. These actions are: uploading files, creating new pages, moving (renaming) pages, and sending thanks. The goal of this feature is to allow admins to apply blocks that are adequate to the blocked users' activity. Learn more about "action blocks". [1][2]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar). [3][4]
  • Talk pages permalinks that included diacritics and non-Latin script were malfunctioning. This issue is fixed. [5]

Future changes

  • 24 Wikipedias with Reference Tooltips as a default gadget are encouraged to remove that default flag. This would make Reference Previews the new default for reference popups, leading to a more consistent experience across wikis. For 46 Wikipedias with less than 4 interface admins, the change is already scheduled for mid-February, unless there are concerns. The older Reference Tooltips gadget will still remain usable and will override this feature, if it is available on your wiki and you have enabled it in your settings. [6][7]

Fernand Lopez: Conflict of interest issue

Hi long time no see.

I am seeking your advice regarding the user Thenotilus123 who's been editing Fernand Lopez lately.

I believe this user is probably a WP:SPA who is paid to promote Lopez and the gym and has WP:COI issues.

I was willing to act in good faith by correcting the edits but I think I had enough from this latest diff. Its not even referenced right, has a WP:Promo tone and I think the source fails WP:RS unless there's something different for books.

My question is #1 should that latest edit just be reverted by default

and #2 what should we do about this COI user?

Imcdc Good day and thank you for the questions. I have a few things, and cant really tell if he has a COI and I have direct no evidence at the moment to connect them as SPA; however, if you have any evidence then pls let me know (also can check editor edits history (past and future) to see the nature of the edits to know if the subject is a COI or SPA editor). The edit regarding the book was written in neutral point of view (NPOV) and it is sourced. So it is not considered PROMO. Let me know if you have any other questions or need assistance. The user made another edit related to education of Ferdinand Lopez that seems to be in a WP:PROMO way. I really do have a suspicion the user is probably paid to fluff up his wiki page when looking at edit history. Should this be reported to WP:COIN?

Imcdc Thank you for checking on the page and informing me. I have changed some of the wording and removed certain part. There is a light tone of promo but not strictly/down right promo. I have informed the editor on their talk page of promo. The editor might be Lopez's fan or truely has a COI issue but I dont have solid evident of such (we both have informed them to disclose if there is a COI) so all we can do at this stage is to obverse further.   • MediaWiki:Gadget-dataDrainer.js - this userscript allows you to delete the data of an item. You can choose what you want to delete: labels and/or descriptions and/or aliases and or sitelinks.

  • There is a new update relative to the experiment with splitting the Wikidata Query Service graph. A project page for the experiment has also been published.
  • WMDE is currently conducting a research on Knowledge Equity in Linked Open Data. The goal is to try to better understand how the use of Wikidata, Wikibase Suite, and Wikibase Cloud both support knowledge equity and create barriers to knowledge equity when people are contributing historically and structurally marginalized knowledge and perspectives. Development

  • The new mul language code is now ready for beta testing. You can find out more at Help talk:Default values for labels and aliases.
  • The graph split testing for the Wikidata Query Service has started. Please find more details in the "Other Noteworthy Stuff" section above.
  • IP Masking: We are continuing the work on adapting Wikibase for the upcoming IP Masking feature, so that IP addresses for non-logged-in users are no longer published.
  • Wikibase REST API:
    • We finished the route for getting and removing a sitelink from an Item (phab:T344039, phab:T344685) and we continue work on the one for adding/ replacing and modifying a sitelink on an Item (phab:T342987, phab:T342988)
    • We now handle of case sensitive statement IDs in GET, PUT, PATCH and DELETE requests as HTTP redirect (phab:T354261)

Recent changes

  • The WDQS Graph Split experiment is working and loaded onto 3 test servers. The team in charge is testing the split's impact and requires feedback from WDQS users through the UI or programmatically in different channels. [8][9][10] Users' feedback will validate the impact of various use cases and workflows around the Wikidata Query service. [11][12]

Problems

  • There was a bug that affected the appearance of visited links when using mobile device to access wiki sites. It made the links appear black; this issue is fixed.

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 February. It will be on all wikis from 15 February (calendar). [13][14]
  • As work continues on the grid engine deprecation,[15] tools on the grid engine will be stopped starting on February 14th, 2024. If you have tools actively migrating you can ask for an extension so they are not stopped. [16]

I am feeling a bit frustrated about you unilaterally undoing my edits to this page. The page had numerous grammatical and sentence structure issues that I improved upon. Reverting "As per norm format" - what does this even mean? We should not be so rigid to see that even though i altered the way the page is organized, objective improvements were still made. For MMA fighter there is a format set by Wikipedia MMA Project (such as you have remove the "Early career" , "Ultimate Fighting Championship" and you have remove sourced content that he was released before by UFC, his career after UFC before competing in TUF 3`1 and the upcoming fight. I reviewed your concerns about my edits and will address each specifically:
  • you removed the "Early Career" - I did not remove this, it's in the first paragraph. the format guidelines you reference and as outlined at WP:MMA/MOS indicate either "Early Life" or "background" as appropriate headings for life before MMA. I retained the background section so there should not be any issue here.
  • "you have remove sourced content that he was released from UFC before competing in TUF 31 and the upcoming fight" - i did not remove this. It is in the last two paragraphs of the MMA career section.

Recent changes

  • If you have the "Email me when a page or a file on my watchlist is changed" option enabled, edits by bot accounts no longer trigger notification emails. Previously, only minor edits would not trigger the notification emails. [17]
  • There are changes to how user and site scripts load for Vector 2022 on specific wikis. The changes impacted the following Wikis: all projects with Vector legacy as the default skin, Wikivoyage, and Wikibooks. Other wikis will be affected over the course of the next three months. Gadgets are not impacted. If you have been affected or want to minimize the impact on your project, see this ticket. Please coordinate and take action proactively.
  • Newly auto-created accounts (the accounts you get when you visit a new wiki) now have the same local notification preferences as users who freshly register on that wiki. It is effected in four notification types listed in the task's description.
  • The maximum file size when using Upload Wizard is now 5 GiB. [18]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 February. It will be on all wikis from 22 February (calendar). [19][20]
  • Selected tools on the grid engine have been stopped as we prepare to shut down the grid on March 14th, 2024. The tool's code and data have not been deleted. If you are a maintainer and you want your tool re-enabled reach out to the team. Only tools that have asked for extension are still running on the grid.
  • The CSS filter property can now be used in HTML style attributes in wikitext. [21]

Thisissagarbera Good day. You can create an article about our village as long as your village (the subject) meets Wikipedia notability guidelines. To meet the guidelines, the subject needs to have significant coverage from independent, reliable source such as from the major newspaper and books (no official web site, govrn website, no social media sites or any sites that are related/affiliated with the subject) that the sources talk above the subject in lenght and in depth for verification. Gallodrow To add the info in, we need to have independent, reliable source such as from the major newspaper (not the Gallery site or Winter's web sites or any sources that is related/affiliated with the subject for the sources would considered not independent). I have checked the web and cant find any source that is suitable at this moment. If you would find a source that is as stated about and it is from the web, you can use the horizontal format of Template:Cite Web to pace an inline citation at the end of the info added.
