DYK for Lucia Votano
[edit]On 24 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lucia Votano, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Lucia Votano (pictured) was the first woman to be appointed director of the Gran Sasso National Laboratory, the largest underground research center in the world? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lucia Votano. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lucia Votano), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Disambiguation link notification for December 19
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Adrian Mihai Ionescu, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Romanian and Swiss. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:59, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
I can't blame you for PRODing this, it looked weak, but it is very much notable. I've added some sources as did others, and claims of notability. I'd suggest reporting poor titles to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Board and table games, it is reasonably active and not too inclusionist, we can try to rescue the articles - or endorse their deletion. I have done a lot of both myself. Cheers, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:48, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

what guidline says that something well known needs no citation.
[edit]just because something is well known does not mean its true.thus it need a citation. Rguyr (talk) 19:30, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- You don't need to cite that the sky is blue. That page is an essay rather than a guideline but still contains useful information. Certes (talk) 20:41, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Rguyr: please also have a look at Wikipedia:When to cite#When a source may not be needed, in particular Uncontroversial content in the lead section is often not cited, as it is a generalization of the cited body text. If you read the article (I assume you are referring to Semiconductor), it is very clear (and well sourced) that a semiconductor has a resistance value in-between that of an insulator and of a conductor. If you feel that a source is missing and that a statement is unreferenced, you should try to add a source yourself rather than tag and leave. See WP:HIT&RUNTAG. Hope this answers your question. --Broc (talk) 09:23, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Rollback granted
[edit]Hi Broc. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 09:41, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
Primary sources
[edit]The primary source is me! I was there, it's my unit. It was under the command of Lt. COL R.J.Muraski. ( Currently, a deputy division commander for the JRB in Fort Worth.) As far as the soldier death goes... Just look up 1st SGT Bobby Mendez. Google him. Tells you where he was and what unit he was in when he died. He was the only soldier we lost the whole time I was there. There were 2 other soldiers from the 101st who were abducted, but they were at a different fob entirely, just found in our AO in Al Hilla. Hell they named buildings after 1st Sgt Mendez. I'm telling you you're information on this page is wrong because I was there! My name is Richard Sanderlin. I'm sure you can find me somewhere on documentation showing I was in that unit at that time. Though all STB MiTT operations where under sensitive 7 at that time. But you should still be able to find names. Not trying to be rude but I am persistent. This is history we are talking about and you guys are getting it wrong. I'd argue it's incredibly disrespectful that 1st Sgt Mendez's name is not even mentioned in your information here. He died for his country in 2006 while serving at FOB Kalsu. Have a little respect for the man and at least look it up! — Preceding unsigned comment added by RLSANDERLIN (talk • contribs) 14:17, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- @RLSANDERLIN thanks for writing me. Note that we can only have information on Wikipedia if it is reported by independent secondary sources, see Wikipedia:No original research. I am sure your account is 100% factually correct; however, to have it included in a wiki page, you need to provide some sources (newspaper articles, etc.) detailing it.
At least look it up!
as you say, is something you should do to corroborate your statements. I am not an expert of the subject unfortunately, so I can't help you there. If you need some directions on how to write on Wikipedia, or how to cite sources, please feel free to ask! Broc (talk) 14:57, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

South American records in swimming
[edit]Can you stop renewing Maelstrom2's vandalism on the pages? South American swimming records exist and have been documented for 100 years in the world press, swimming confederations, etc. Very old users here, specialized in swimming, like Montell74 and Kante4, never tried to remove these records from here because it's not to be removed, they exist. If FINA does not describe this record separately, it is not our problem, we do not have an employment relationship with FINA to do what they want. Our relationship here is with the existence of sources, and South American swimming records are widely documented. All the swimmers he removed SA from the pages, there is a source in their articles confirming the existence of SA, so the vandalism belongs to Maelstrom2. Goldencerebro (talk) 20:31, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Goldencerebro, I already undid my revert, see Special:Diff/1206671349. I was alerted by several different IP users performing similar edits on different pages, which is usually a good indicator for vandalism, but I was probably wrong. Please discuss content issues directly in talk page, it's not my area of expertise. Broc (talk) 20:38, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

Hello Broc, I'm reaching out about an article that you accepted yesterday, Ettrick and Northern, which I find to be problematic. I was curious why you accepted this article in its current state? In my opinion it should have been rejected with an expectation that it would be expanded and have additional references added. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:18, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh thanks for reaching out. I followed the reviewing instructions:
- Topic is encyclopedic? Yes
- Subject notable? Yes, a simple Google search brings up several sources and even in-depth articles
- Reliably sourced? I do not have access to the book, but it seems a reliable source and I WP:AGF
- Neutral point of view? Yes
- About a living person? No --> ACCEPTED
- Why would you reject it? Broc (talk) 15:28, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Broc: Typically we expect a reference showing some type of WP:SIGCOV when we accept a draft. It's not clear to me what makes the subject of the article notable and that's problematic. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:31, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh After approving the draft I put a couple {{Refideas}} in the talk page, which in my opinion show the notability of the subject. I thought notability is a property of the subject and is independent of the page content. Regarding the specific source used in the article: I have no access to it, so I can't confirm whether it meets WP:SIGCOV. However, said coverage can be easily found elsewhere. Broc (talk) 15:42, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Broc: A question you should be asking is, is this article, in its current state, fit for main space? In this case, I'd argue it's not as it fails the WP:V aspect of step 2. Another example of this is NFL player pages which I routinely decline for failing WP:SPORTBASIC. The subjects are clearly notable in some instances, but they only have database entries and don't show WP:SIGCOV. If a member of AfC is moving an article to the main space then it should be fit for main space, even if the article could be expanded further. You're welcome to start at discussion at WT:AFC about this, but I don't think that article should have been accepted. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:49, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh what you are saying is that the threshold at AfC is actually higher than the "standard" threshold for articles that are created directly in main space? This does not seem very clear from the reviewing instructions... Broc (talk) 15:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- I just came across this article, and after reading it, I agree with Josh. It doesn't seem suitable for mainspace in its current form. I think it would be better to move it to draftspace for some more work and improvement. – DreamRimmer (talk) 15:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @DreamRimmer then again it seems that "fit for mainspace" is not a well defined concept. I followed reviewing instructions (which come with a very nice flow chart), and the page fulfilled all criteria for acceptance; I struggle to see on which ground I should have declined the AfC submission. This is not a mere database entry, there are three full sentences and a reference; the notability of the subject, in my opinion, is shown. However, if you all think it should be WP:DRAFTIFY'd, I am certainly not opposed to it. Broc (talk) 16:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Re writing The Free City Of Mainz
[edit]Hi @Broc! I need some help, I recently re-wrote the Article Free City Of Mainz, but before I add it in, I need your help to make sure it's right,
Here's the text so far:
The Free City Mainz, was a city-state that existed from 13 BC to 1803 in the early Middle Ages, played a crucial role in the Christianization of the German and Slavic communities during the Middle Ages.
The first archbishop of Mainz, Boniface, was assassinated in 754 while attempting to convert the Frisians to Christianity, and his remains are interred in Fulda.
Mainz became a regular archbishopric in 781, when Pope Adrian I granted Boniface's successor, Lullus, the pallium. Harald Klak, king of Jutland, and his followers were baptized at Mainz in 826, in the abbey of St. Alban's. Rabanus Maurus, a scholar and writer, and Willigis, who initiated the construction of the current building of the Mainz Cathedral and established the monastery of St. Stephan, were among the early archbishops of Mainz. From Willigis until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, the Archbishops of Mainz served as the archchancellors of the Empire and were the most important of the seven Electors of the Holy Roman Emperor. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz is the only diocese in the world with an episcopal see known as a Holy See, in addition to Rome. The Archbishops of Mainz were traditionally primas germaniae. In 1244, Archbishop Siegfried III granted Mainz a city charter, giving citizens the right to establish and elect a city council.
In 1461, a conflict erupted between two archbishops: Diether von Isenburg, who had been elected Archbishop by the cathedral chapter and was backed by the citizens, and Adolf II von Nassau, who had been named archbishop of Mainz by the pope.
If you could help me link it and improve it I would really appreciate it,
Cheers and let me know if it's right, Arotparaarms (talk) 12:55, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Arotparaarms, while I am a German speaker I would not consider myself a subject-matter expert in German history :) I can definitely help with questions regarding style, formatting, referencing and general Wikipedia guidelines, but I'm not sure I can comment on your content. If you are confident in what you wrote, be bold and post it.
- Note that I suggested your page Free City of Mainz to be merged to Mainz#History, as it's a rather short page for now and could maybe better included in the main article. As an alternative to merging, I would recommend adding at least a paragraph in Mainz' page and a link to the page you created (which at the moment is an orphan). Kudos for the page you created, it seems well written and well sourced. Broc (talk) 13:29, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @Broc, I'll link it and then post it onto the article, I have a busy schedule at the moment(studying etc.) So whenever I get the time, Ill improve it and then post it on.
- Thanks a million!
- Cheers, Arotparaarms (talk) 15:37, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi Broc. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 14:39, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

The Schweitzer Institute is obviously a genuine organisation (unless the organisations which are referenced are making it up!), and as an international think-tank which is linked to several universities, it clearly merits a Wikipedia page.
SI WebPage (talk) 18:29, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- SI WebPage I don't doubt it is a genuine organization, I only think it does not fulfill the notability requirements as shown here: Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). In particular, what is missing is significant coverage of this organization in reliable, secondary sources. Note that being a genuine organization is not enough to be on Wikipedia, the subject of a page needs to be notable as defined by the criteria in the page I linked. Let me know if you have any questions. Broc (talk) 18:34, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- OK, but I'm very surprised that an international think tank, which is affiliated to Cambridge University, doesn't merit a Wikipedia page, especially as these 75 other think tanks do (see List of think tanks in the United Kingdom). SI WebPage (talk) 19:17, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- @SI WebPage don't read me wrong, I did not say it doesn't. I'm just saying that the page you wrote does not show the necessary coverage in reliable secondary sources. I received remarks from you on 26 January 2024 regarding improving certain terms on the article Emblem of Andhra Pradesh, which I completed on 6 March 2024. I tagged you there, but I think it went unnoticed. Can you please look into it? Thank you and sorry for any inconvenience. 456legendtalk 04:39, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- @456legend I saw your ping but I am on vacation without laptop. I'll check it in 1-2 weeks once I'm back. If I forget, feel free to ping me again next month. Best, Broc (talk) 10:38, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Broc I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused and thank you very much for the reply. Surely will take it into account. 456legendtalk 13:06, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Edits on the Anthony J. Resta page
[edit]Hello Broc, A user deleted a significant amount of information on the page. You added it back, and he subsequently removed the information, again. It appears that the user deleted both unsourced and well-sourced information in the edits. I am going to work on building the article with sourced information; and, hopefully, the user will not delete my information. Also, given the fact that very little remains in the article and that the remaining information is mostly referenced, it appears that the templates at the head of the article are no longer applicable. Could an Admin delete those, since the page is essentially back to a fresh start? Doc54625 (talk) 02:16, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Broc,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi Broc, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle, configure it to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. Remember to take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a search engine) for compliance with the general notability guideline. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 18:00, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
Jaybird Cave draftification
[edit]Hi Broc, I moved the page on Jaybird Cave you draftified for non-notability back to mainspace. I added a few references, but I believe that even without the additional refs it met the bare minimum for WP:NGEO for named natural features (e.g., it's a named location that has information beyond just statistics). Still a stub, but I plan on expanding it again in the future. Thanks! nf utvol (talk) 14:36, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Nfutvol I moved it to draft because the only mentions I could find in sources were entries in tables with only statistics; I thought it would be a rather borderline case of WP:NGEO. Thanks for checking it out and for expanding the page! Broc (talk) 15:04, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Page moved to draft
[edit] Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. A page you recently contributed to, Passbolt, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it has been moved to Draft:Passbolt (software) where you can continue to work on it. Thank you. --Ahecht (TALK

Start-class rating
[edit]Hello, I noticed your edit to Talk:Horace G. Benson, where you rated it a start class. What makes it worthy of start class? I rated it a stub because it's less than 250 prose. Is this a use of the Croughton-London rule? Roasted (talk) 20:10, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Roastedbeanz1 I am aware most editors use the 250-character rule. However, in this case, the biography seems rather comprehensive and there is probably not much more information available about the subject. Hence my start-class rating :) Broc (talk) 09:16, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Kimiyo (album)
[edit]Hello @Broc, hope you're well! I believe you're the person I should contact regarding the notice you added to the page I created for the article Kimiyo (album).
If possible, I'd like to point out the articles related to the criteria. And maybe you could help me better identify or mention them?
Thanks in advance for your help! Joan Million (talk) 03:55, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Broc, hope you're well! Would you be available to discuss and help me fix a topic?
- Thanks! :) Joan Million (talk) 13:06, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Joan Million, please have a look at WP:NALBUM, the notability criteria for albums. I am not 100% sure the page you created fulfills them. A "Reception" section showcasing the album's critical reception (i.e., album reviews from reliable sources) would probably be sufficient to show the notability. Hope this helps. Broc (talk) 13:15, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply @Broc! The album received numerous notable reviews/critics, in notable newspapers & magazines such as Rolling Stone (France), Brooklyn Vegan (USA), La Presse (national newspaper in Canada), Prog Mag (UK), and many more - stated and linked all across the Wiki Page.
- I went through the criteria list too and knowing that the news/reviews/reports supporting the statements are tagged all across the wiki page, is it still necessary to set a "Reception" section?
- Thank you very much for your assistance! :) Joan Million (talk) 16:05, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Recreation of Andrew Pettit
[edit]Andrew Pettit was copy-paste recreated by Nelly GTFC after you moved it to draftspace. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:41, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh damn, I'm sorry about this, does it need to be reverted again? I'm ploughing on with new content and references as we speak? --Nelly GTFC (talk) 19:12, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Nelly GTFC the page looks good to me now, thanks! Please consider using the page move feature instead of copy-paste. Moreover, if you're actively working on a page, I would suggest using the {{WIP}} tag. Broc (talk) 21:03, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, does my draft need merging into the new article, I've made abit of a mess with the history I think. I did try and move it into my draft, but would not let me. --Nelly GTFC (talk) 21:09, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Vincent Bordot erroneously marked as not living
[edit]When you created Talk:Vincent Bordot, you wrote |living=no
, even though Vincent Bordot describes and categorizes him as living. Did you click "non-living" somewhere in WP:RATER? (If not, I'll submit a bug report – the default should be an empty/missing living
parameter, so it's categorized for someone else to fill in correctly.) jlwoodwa (talk) 19:47, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Jlwoodwa thanks for pointing it out! I noticed that the Rater tool automatically adds living=no and one always needs to switch it manually. In this case I must have missed it, sorry for the confusion. Not sure if it's a bug or if it's meant to work this way, though! Broc (talk) 20:58, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Could you explain help pls
[edit]I see that this edit not only deleted but also removed sight of copyvio? text. The edit summary says that it all came from one source but the hidden text is reffed to a variety of sources. Are they all incorrect? Maybe Ive missed something, I'm surprised as this is usually good work from this editot. Thank you. Victuallers (talk) 21:43, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Victuallers thanks for reaching out! As part of WP:NPP I removed all infringing text that was, as far as I remember, close paraphrased from the source linked in the edit summary. I then requested WP:REVDEL as it is usually done with copyright violations, and @Nthep completed the revision deletion.
- I then checked a few of the recent creations of the editor in question — courtesy ping to @DrPlantGenomics — and realized they often use close paraphrasing in their articles. I found at least 6 instances, all of them already removed with revdel, and therefore requested a WP:CCI investigation to be opened. I agree with you, their content is generally very good, but we can't accept copyright violations on Wikipedia.
- If you think I made a mistake, please let me know! Broc (talk) 06:06, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Deletion of images on Hyper Racer X1
[edit]Hi there. You deleted several images on this page on the basis that they were copyright violations.
In this case, the images were added by the owner of the business that created this vehicle after I contacted him and asked whether he had any images to add. They may well have been the same ones as on the company website; however, in this case, the business owner owns the rights to them. He may well however not have labelled them correctly.
It seems that the images have been completely deleted beyond retrieval, or at least beyond non-administrator retrieval.
Am I going to to have to ask him to upload the images again or is there some way they can be rescued and given updated sourcing labels? --Robert Merkel (talk) 09:21, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Robert Merkel, thanks for reaching out. Let me point out that I did not delete the images myself as I am not an administrator, I simply tagged them for deletion as copyright violations.
- If someone who owns copyright of those pictures wants to grant a license for use on Wikimedia Commons, they can do so by writing to the Volunteer Response Team. Check out the link, all the instructions are there. This way the licensing agreement is recorded and will not be disputed. I hope this helps! Broc (talk) 10:38, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Broc,
Why did you close this AFD as "Keep" and then you went and draftified the article? That is misleading because you didn't leave the article in main space as Keep implies but took a further action on your own, outside of the AFD to draftify the article. Was there a consensus to Draftify the article? Liz Read! Talk! 06:41, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Liz, I understand it might have been unorthodox. I nominated the page for AfD as part of NPP, as the page was only primary sourced and did not seem to fulfill WP:NSCHOOL or WP:NCORP.
- After the comments of the original author and another editor in the AfD, I realized the topic has potential merit and I should have rather draftified it for improvements instead of nominating it for deletion. The two participants seemed to agree that the article could be expanded by finding additional sources, as the school has existed for more than 125 years. This is the reason why I withdrew my nomination and proceeded with draftification instead.
- I understand I might have bent the rules of the process a bit, but I think the editors involved (courtesy ping to Yucalyptus Sirfurboy) agree on the outcome. Broc (talk) 08:08, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Brock and Liz. Just to clarify, I never agreed that the article should be draftified (please see its articles for deletion page). Me replying "good call" to Sirfurboy was just to show that I was willing to find more book sources for the school (and I did that). I'm sorry if I wasn't too specific, but I preferred for the article to be kept as it was and for users to vote (until a fair decision was made). I'm frankly disappointed that the article was put in draft mode – Because I added as many sources as I did, now as it's in draft mode, and just after submitting it, a mod declined it literally in the first minute. His or her hurried decision seemed a bit tough to me. Can other users be more "forgiving" (say when I resubmit it later)? Of course, this is NOT to say that I won't be improving it more. Yucalyptus (talk) 08:21, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks to Broc for the ping. I was a bit surprised by the action here as it is not the usual process, but with WP:IAR in mind, I decided not to say anything and just work with it. It is, after all, the way I was initially leaning in the AfD. Draft space is underused for incubating articles, and this one still needs some work to demonstrate it is a notable subject. I am willing to work the Yucalyptus to find some secondary sources to demonstrate notability (albeit a touch short on time just now). So I think we can get there with this page, just so long as some sources do exist. The action does have a downside that Broc might like to consider: AfD draws in editors who will focus on searching for the sources. By curtailing the process, we curtailed such editor input. It may have been that this page would have proceeded to a clear keep after a week. But, equally, it might have just been deleted. AfD can sometimes feel a bit like a lottery in that respect. So draftifying may have done the page a favour or it may have slowed it down. We can't know. Yet if it had just initially been draftified, I wouldn't have seen it... so perhaps there is already a net positive. Ultimately we are where we are, I don't think there was any bad faith from anyone, and a potentially useful article is still there to be worked on. Draft space is no stigma - it is just a safe space to incubate a new article until it is ready for publication in mainspace. This one is looking very good - but it does need some reliable secondary sources to demonstrate the notability of the subject. Yucalyptus, I'm happy to talk about that on the talk page there, and have it watchlisted. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Yucalyptus you are not obliged to go through the Articles for Creation process (i.e.: submitting the article for review) to move it out of draft space. If you think it has been sufficiently improved, you can move it back to main space yourself. However, AFC is a useful process that allows you to get feedback from experienced editors, as you have already seen. While the feedback might be harsh, it certainly gives you an indication on further article improvements.
- On a general note: I'm sorry this is creating confusion. I simply wanted to backtrack on an action of mine that I thought was wrong/rushed (WP:AFD instead of WP:DRAFTIFY). Broc (talk) 08:42, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Sirfurboy @Broc Thanks for the input, the both of you. True, the feedback does mean I need to find stronger sources. And I'm glad you, Sirfurboy, want to assist me in this on the article's page, and I appreciated that you made an edit on the draft article. :) Yucalyptus (talk) 14:17, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

Presidency Navigation Templates vs. Biography Navigation Templates discussion
[edit]Hello, Broc! Considering that you liked my edit that replaced the Ronald Reagan navigation template with the Presidency of Ronald Reagan navigation template on the Ronald Reagan and AIDS article, would you mind leaving a comment at a WikiProject United States Presidents talk page discussion about that template and the others that I created for the presidencies of Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush? Another editor and myself disagree about whether there should be a separate navigation template for each Presidency apart from the biographical navigation template. Thanks! -- CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk) 03:15, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @CommonKnowledgeCreator, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about navboxes to be able to express a meaningful opinion. It seems other editors are already participating in the discussion, so if you don't mind, I will not get involved. Broc (talk) 16:24, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Australian Winter Draft Submission
[edit]Hey Broc,
Thanks for reviewing a couple of my redirects. I was wondering if there was any change of you reviewing my Draft:2023 Australian Winter - Wikipedia submission? I am planning on doing other years than 2023, but I am just waiting on this one being accepted before I can move on. I understand if this is not allowed, I just thought it was worth an ask as I am eager to get started on them. Thanks for all the work that you do!
Kindest regards, Joecompan (talk) 09:37, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Joecompan, I accepted your draft as it seemed well written and sourced, but soon after realized there is a significant copyright violation in the section "Events". The text is now hidden, please fix it (i.e.: rewrite it in your own words and avoid close paraphrasing) within 7 days or it will have to be deleted. Let me know if you need help. Broc (talk) 10:03, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Broc I left a message on my talk page. To repeat I apologise it was largely unintentional. I took the information from that website but I obv did not paraphrase well enough. I will go through shortly and rewrite it. Thanks for the review. If it's all good once it is done, I will get u to check it because I'd rather this didn't happen again. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience as I understand this stuff doesn't look good on you. Thanks for the review I meant it all in good faith.
- Kindest regards, Joecompan (talk) 10:09, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Broc, I just checked the page and the information under the events tab has been removed. I was wondering if this was temporary or if it was permanent because I put quite a bit of effort into rewriting every sentence and adding more info.
- Kindest regards, Joecompan (talk) 21:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Joecompan it seems like a mistake from the closing admin, who removed the copyvio notice but also the rewritten content. I restored the content now. Broc (talk) 07:11, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. Honestly for a second there I kinda panicked thinking I mucked everything up so thank you for being calm about it. As a fairly new wikipedian it was probably good to experience this early on and learn from it now. This article has been something I have worked on for a bit and am passionate about, so I really didn't want to lose it so yeah. I hope it didn't have any repercussions on you for accepting it. Really sorry about this. Joecompan (talk) 13:42, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Broc, I'm sorry there has been such a kerfuffle. However, I think things have actually quietened down. The intervening editor has stated that he has no more issues.
