Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Los Angeles Examiner, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Platform (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Re. belated welcome

Hello BeenAroundAWhile. A belated 'thank you' for the belated welcome to Wikipedia ( and the imaginary plate of biscuits...) : much appreciated. I have had, and am still having, a wonderful time editing Wikipedia. It's nice to receive some positive feedback occasionally. Much as I love Wikipedia, I don't feel I've been given a huge amount of encouragement, given the huge amount of time and trouble that I've expended on editing pages and sometimes creating them from scratch. I'd be the first to admit to not being great at coding, but I have a huge amount to offer in the way of esoteric information ( thanks to my large, specialist library ) and detailed, self-created photo's ( mainly of plants ) uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I've sometimes got the feeling that certain Wikipedians seem to value the dotting of 'i's and crossing of 't's in terms of coding above actual content. I've also encountered ( rarely, thank heavens...) what seems like outright vandalism, based not on legitimate grounds but mere whim - an editor will delete info on the grounds not that it's unreferenced or badly referenced, but simply that they don't (for whatever reason) LIKE said info. Sorry to moan a bit, but it helps occasionally to get things off my chest. Editing can be a very solitary pleasure. Re. my poor coding : case in point : this comment is showing up not as a new topic, but as part of the 'Art and Feminism' discussion (which, of course, it isn't). Try as I may, I can't seem to rectify this - sorry ! Kind regards Flobbadob (talk) 13:18, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Flobbadob.

Please consider uploading free images to Commons!

Thank you for uploading free images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view your previous uploads). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Thanks, and please continue uploading! --Animalparty! Leeann Tweeden: Self-published source

Hi BeenAroundAWhile,

Thanks for the notification. I appreciate the heads-up about your changes to the Leeann Tweeden article.

I'd like to point out that, in limited circumstances, self-published sources may be used as sources of information about themselves. From WP:SELFSOURCE:

"Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as the following criteria are met:
  1. The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim.
  2. It does not involve claims about third parties (such as people, organizations, or other entities).
  3. It does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject.
  4. There is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity.
  5. The article is not based primarily on such sources.
These requirements also apply to pages from social networking websites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook."

The main reason why I chose to add that particular citation is that one of the others was rather vague regarding the number of USO tours which she had done. Lacking a definitive answer to that question, I added a ref to her verified Facebook page. If you feel that this source fails the criteria above, there is already another citation for that statement which also states that she did 16 tours with the USO, so perhaps that is sufficient.

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Archiving this

Hello. I can't find discussions between '08 and '12. Most of 'em from between '14 and '16 also seem to be missing. Does that sound right to you? Also, it seems this page was set for automatically archiving. Did you remove it because you wanted to do it manually? If you want to do it manually, all you need to do is open the last archive (archive 5 right now) and this page in edit mode simultaneously, cut 40-50 threads from this page, paste it to that page and then save both pages. When archive 5 becomes to big, you just do the same at archive 6. And so on. If you didn't remove the bot manually, we could probably just set the bot again and wait for a few days to start doing the archiving itself again. Your thoughts? ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:07, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Discretionary sanctions notice for post-1932 American politics

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Lee Fixel

Hello, BeenAroundAWhile!

I've been working with Lee Fixel to identify some updates to his Wikipedia article. I've disclosed my COI on my profile as well as the article's talk page. So far, I've had success updating the Early life and education section, but I'm struggling to find editors to review the updated Career and Philanthropy sections. AmericanAir88 assisted with the first request and provided some very helpful feedback on my second request, but is unavailable to review the revised Career text (with improved sourcing) and proposed Philanthropy text. The proposed changes are not drastic overhauls; they seek to update the page and improve sourcing and readability.

I've asked for help at multiple WikiProjects (Biography, Business, Finance & Investment, United States) and from several specific editors, but my efforts have stalled. As an active editor and member of WikiProject Business, might you be willing to review these 2 requests and update the article on my behalf? I don't think reviewing will take too long, and I'm happy to address any questions or concerns. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 16:19, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Somebody needs to grow up, true. Hint: not me.

P.S.: Apparently my response to you was too subtle for you:

  • I don't care what you think
  • I've never cared what you think
  • I doubt I will ever care what you think

My response was not an invitation. So, to be explicit: stay off of my Talk page.

Your MfD nomination

The page Angeles Mesa Drive Airport was nominated for MfD by you. However, it was not a proper nomination. I have now nominated it for RfD (Redirects for Discussion) using your original reason because it was a redirect. CrazyBoy826 (talk) 20:16, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, friend. My best to you. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 23:17, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

hi, I see you removed a paragraph I added in Fake News on line 196, starting with the words "Social media can be a conduit circulating fake news through a large population...." I would like to know why. Zvi grossnass (talk) 11:09, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Hmm. What you sent me was five revisions, not just mine. The only thing I changed was in a header which tried to explain the governmental status of Hong Kong. (I took it out.) You have to go back and check individual edits to see who made that particular fix you object to. Thanks for asking so nicely. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 22:14, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Venice, Los Angeles

Hello. Thanks for undoing my edit. I agree that I need to have a citation now. I observed in my field work that there was a 2001 rehabilitation with foreign sand used that made an ecological impact. The impact has not been documented in any kind of published article. However, in hindsight, I now think that I need to write a report and add to my web site as a published article. Would that make my earlier edit allowable? Also, there would be some effort involved, but I may be able to find an LA City public works report of the project of rehabilitaton of this former well site, with a caveat, that bureaucrcy of LA City is difficult to maneuver.

Also, in this edit that was undone by you, I had made a small edit of structure change at beginning of the Oil section, which was also undone by you. I just added that sentence structure change, which I hope is ok, and is appropriate, and communicating with you now that I did so, is a good method followed in Wikipedia editors?

As a relatively new editior, just completed my 100th edit, acknowledged by Wikipedia, I have not yet used the 'New section' in 'Talk' so I do not know if this message is reaching you. Peace, Roy....Robert Jan van de Hoek (talk) 14:13, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Gender neutral language

Hi, the singular they/their is now a preferred style (and is inclusive of all people). See, Wikipedia's manual of style (MOS:GNL) and also Singular they, Purdue Online Writing Lab. I look forward to your thoughts. --Enos733 (talk) 20:54, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

They as a singular is not preferred in the source you cited (but thanks for referring me to it), so there is no reason to change it in this article. It grates on the internal ear of many people, so it's best to avoid using it. I will take another look at the sentence to see the problem you mention can be adequately addressed. Yours, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 21:05, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
While a singular they may grate the ear of some, Wikipedia Commons prefers the singular they to "his or hers." Similarly, a 2017 RfC on gender neutral language was supported by nearly 60% of participants, suggesting most editors are supportive of moving toward gender neutral language. I'm ok with rewriting sentences to be more inclusive, but as an interim step, I believe improvements to this community involves removing "his or her" where appropriate. --Enos733 (talk) 21:41, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
This matter is beyond the purview of my WP:Userpage & should be addressed with the WP:Community. Best wishes! BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 21:55, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Quick Update and Question

Hi, thanks for your welcome message on my page. You asked me about adding a source to the Hollywood Dell, Los Angeles page and I just wanted to let you know that I added the link.

Also, your message says that "some of my recent contributions seem to be advertising". I wanted to clarify that my contributions are related to topics I follow or I feel passionate about. I'm not sure why any of my edits could be considered "advertising". I'm happy to clarify any questions or feel free to revert any of my contributions. SolanWP (talk) 23:59, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

About Macintosh 512Ke

Hello, I noticed you undid my edit for "Macintosh 512Ke", saying that the edit summary didn't make sense to you.

What I meant was that if the Macintosh Plus- which came out a few months earlier than the 512Ke- was capable of running System 7, then it was also capable of running System 6, so the 512Ke wouldn't be the first Mac that could run System 6.

If I am missing anything that would falsify what I'm saying, kindly let me know.

GVO8891 (talk) 20:31, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

I appreciate your response. Thanks. I'm posting this exchange also on the talk page of the article, which is where stuff like this should go. (As an aside, my first Mac was a 512E enhanced. Somewhere I have a photo of me proudly posing with the marvelous Mac. When I find it, I will post it on the page if nobody objects, although come to think of it my ex-wife owns the copyright. Oh, well.) Anyway, there is a source at the bottom of the paragraph; did you check it? It's broken, so I marked it "citation needed." You should try to find a source for your correction, but if you can't, then just put back your change and keep the "citation needed." Maybe somebody else can find a better source, maybe even you. Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 17:06, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

The Oath Keepers

I am the person that put up the section on 'Policies, statements and actions on race and religion.' I agree with your edits to the section it was not well written, I make no claims to being a good writer. However, the section is pertinent to article. The Oath Keepers have gone to great pains to gain broad public appeal and to rebuke it being a white supremest organization and to portray it as more religiously tolerant. However, while their rhetoric states one thing the actions of their leadership and members goes another way. This is not unlike good PR campaigns by many bad players. Would you help me reorganize it and add information in a way that will make it a better section or are there better ways to tackle an obfuscated subject? Myotus (talk) 17:24, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Congratulations!

Congrats on justabout reaching the 100,000 edit club, rarified air and a key to the Club Room. Nice work, and it's been nice seeing your name pop-up during edit runs. From a fellow journalism graduate, Randy Kryn (talk) 12:41, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Congrats and heads-up

Congrats on reaching 100,000 edits! I've just moved some old edits like this one from the Sandberg, California page history back to your old sandbox at User:BeenAroundAWhile/Sandbox. Hope you don't mind. I was checking your edit count stats when I noticed your sandbox edits. I noticed that the first edit to the sandbox linked above wasn't by you, and then realised that there were many edits in the Sandberg page history that had nothing to do with Sandberg. THANK YOU!

I read about you hitting 100,000 edits and wanted to offer my congratulations on topping that mark. It is truly amazing how much your contributions have meant to this encyclopedia and the lasting impact you have had. Thank you for the time and effort you have given to improving the content here and further building the community through collaboration and civility. I, for one, am very grateful. --ARoseWolf 17:23, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

License tagging for File:1906.10.21 Country store.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:1906.10.21 Country store.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:30, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Diadem given to Veiled Prophet Queen in 1930.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Diadem given to Veiled Prophet Queen in 1930.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Editing against consensus

You reverted my edit of West Hills, Los Angeles, which was a revert of an anonymous edit adding unnecessary & ambiguous wording to the lede of Los Angeles community articles. Your edit comment indicated that you did not recall the extensive history of discussion around this issue on these pages. As a reminder there was in-fact an RfC (that you yourself initiated) back in 2016 that achieved a rough consensus against adding wording like affluent to such articles.

Hope this helps. Raitchison (talk) 23:46, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

I do recall such a discussion, but there was no consensus, only a tapering-off of the conversation based upon the feelings of a few people who apparently don't understand what is a WP:Lead and the (perhaps grudging) abandonment of sterile conversation about the matter by others who care or cared one way or another. Anyway, there are enough editors who keep adding the descriptive, well-documented income levels to certain neighborhood leads that I'm sure it is obvious there is no consensus at all. If you wish to keep secret from the lead one of the most important facts about a neighborhood — that is, its income level (when that is a factor of its importance) — you of course can do so, but why? Best wishes. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 04:06, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
If you will check the RfC you will note that consensus was in-fact reached in that discussion. If you feel the situation has changed you of course could always open another RfC. As for the number of other editors who share your opinion I could only find a few edits adding such verbiage since the most recent edit war in early 2017 and every one I could find was made by an anonymous editor, one who had only ever edited the West Hills page. I have to wonder if most, if not all of those edits were made due to WP:ILLEGIT activity. Have a good evening Raitchison (talk) 05:21, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
