Full official English name of the event
[edit]I am still baffled about the full official English name for the event: 庆祝中华人民共和国成立70周年大会 (full name in Chinese). There are several official sources including:
- "celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China"
- "celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China"
I will continue to search for the name and add sources to the list. —Wei4Green | 唯绿远大 (talk) 23:24, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
RfC: Official full English name for the event and its definition
[edit]How are we going to find and come to a consensus of the official full English name of the military parade, mass pageant event, (and possibly the music and dance gala) in 2019 and how are we going to define the event? Thank you. —Wei4Green | 唯绿远大 (talk) 22:17, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
As of now, we haven't reached a consensus on the official full English name of the event including the grand military parade, mass pageant, and music and dance gala. I have found some official sources, but I didn't find any answers that directly correpesponds to the term “庆祝中华人民共和国成立70周年大会” (literally "celebrate Chinese people republic founding seventy anniversary mass meeting". These sources below picked up the words from the main text body, not the images:
- "celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China": Press center for celebration of 70th anniversary of PRC founding holds 2nd press conference
- "celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China":Tian'anmen Square to close on weekend for celebration rehearsal
- "70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China":State Council releases activity logo of 70th anniversary of PRC founding
[ I don't think the text beneath the logo should be referenced because of its artistic nature: the words of the text are capitalized just because of its good-looking. I think our references need to be extracted from the text in the news article to be more reliable and accurate. (User talk:60.50.190.15#70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China) For phrases, only the proper nouns should be capitalized (en:Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters). If the word "the" is placed at the top of the title and used inappropriately, they violate common usage, only serving as noise words (en:Wikipedia:Naming conventions (definite or indefinite article at beginning of name)). So from my understanding from the article, it should be “70th anniversary of the founding of The People's Republic of China” and not the IP address 60.50.190.15's understanding of “The 70th Anniversary of the Founding of The People's Republic of China”. ]
Then I had a dispute with IP address 60.50.190.15 on the 1st and 3rd bullet point, which almost caused an WP:Edit war. I made my arguements on his talk page, but he reverted my edits without proper discussion twice. We had the same situation over at Chinese Wikipedia.
We also have a dispute on the definitions of "大会" (general assembly) and "活动" (activity) and which one is the official term. We had a hard time figuring out what specific celebrations are included in those two terms. Their definitions could include national celebrations like the morning flag-raising ceremony (held at 6:00 a.m. every National Day), military parade and mass pageant event (held in the morning continuously at 8 a.m. on select National Days), the music and dance gala (held in the evening at 8 p.m. on select National Days), National Medal Award Ceremony, issuing of commemorative coins, etc.
No one was replying on the talk page as the celebrations are coming very soon. That is why I am requesting for comments, about how are we going to find and come to a consensus of the official full English name of the military parade, mass pageant event, (and possibly the music and dance gala) in 2019 and how are we going to define the event. Thank you.

- Comment - This isn't a request for consensus, because it doesn't provide a question, and it doesn't appear to be a well-formed request for input. Please revise it, either to ask a question, or to request multiple inputs (to be followed by a later RFC with a question). Robert McClenon (talk) 16:04, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
- @User:Robert McClenon: The first sentence is my question. And may I ask how you define a "well-formed request"? Wei4Green · 唯绿远大 04:37, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- User:Wei4Green - You didn't ask a content question. You asked a process question. You didn't ask what the English name of the event is. You asked how to come to a consensus about the English name of the event. The answer to how to come to a consensus may be by discussion. But we already knew that.
