Re:CGW reviews

Sounds great! Glad you didn't get too discouraged by the witch hunt against your articles a few weeks ago. I've noticed your new project of adding reviews and was happy to see you back. Amazing work finding some of these, too—I'd never even heard of stuff like Casus Belli before. Looking forward to watching your progress. Oh, and Happy New Year! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:15, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately I've been too busy lately to do much on Wikipedia (hence my very limited contributions for most of the year). That's set to continue for a while. I removed one tag I thought was unjustified but I can't do any source-digging at the moment. Have you tried doing a Google search like: ["game title" site:archive.org]? That's usually how I find stuff. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:36, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, Wikipedia didn't notify me, for some reason! That's an impressive list of redlinks and sources you've gathered! Hopefully editors rise to the challenge. I'm still pretty much unable to edit at all due to time constraints from work, so I can only wish you guys luck. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 19:23, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Awesome to see you back at it! Best of luck. As for me, I'm actually still swamped with work, although my contributions this month might seem to imply otherwise. I've snuck in a few edits on my pet projects between work binges. We'll see if things settle down enough for me to edit regularly again, but, for now, I've got to leave you guys to it. Hopefully there are others available to help! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 02:52, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Help with stuff (moving drafts, etc.)

Hey there man! Happy new year. Look, sorry for bothering you right now but is there any way to revive these files i previously uploaded to this article (Bomberman (Nintendo 3DS game)), which were eventually deleted by a bot once an article reviewer redirected the article: File:3DS Bomberman (Battle Mode).jpg, File:3DS Bomberman (Normal Game).jpg and File:Nintendo 3DS Bomberman cover art.jpg Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:12, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

No worries User:KGRAMR, I restored your images and removed the deletion notices; just make sure to add them back to the article ASAP. :) BOZ (talk) 02:24, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Thanks pal! :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 03:04, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hi BOZ! Can you help me in moving this draft? Draft:Detana TwinBee Yahho! Deluxe Pack => Detana TwinBee Yahho! Deluxe Pack Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:35, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hello there BOZ! Hey, this is not a draft but since its finally coming out in America, can you move this page to go in line with the official localization? Famicom Tantei Club: Kieta Kōkeisha => Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:41, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hey User:KGRAMR! Since that article has been at the same page name since 2007, I'm not sure if I should move it. You might want to try WP:RM in this case. BOZ (talk) 00:52, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:I'll give it a try... Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey there! I hope you're doing well. Look sorry for bothering you but can you try to sort this out, since you're an administrator? I finished my draft of Arcana Heart (video game) a few days ago a i thought i looked fine until Onel5969 filed a copyvio-revdel template indicating that most of the character bios were taken from another website (https://www.castingcall.club/projects/arcana-heart-3-love-max-six-stars-2), which i legit did not know since i took it from the main series page (Arcana Heart#Introduced in Arcana Heart), though the sources that are now included are from more reliable website such as Dengeki Online and IGN but this caught me by surprise. I hope this doesn't get me into more troubles regarding copyright. Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:31, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Hey User:KGRAMR! The question that needs answering here is, for the article you took your text from, did the user who added it copy from the other website, or did the other website copy the text from our article? If the former, then this is the fault of the person who added the text to Wikipedia. If the latter, then see Wikipedia:Spotting possible copyright violations where it says: "sometimes you will find text elsewhere on the Web that was copied from Wikipedia. In these cases, it is a good idea to make a note in the talk page to discourage such false alarms in the future. See {{backwardscopyvio}}." BOZ (talk) 17:47, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Seeing the revision history of the main series page, it seems that it was copypasted from an earlier article for the first game that was redirected (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Arcana_Heart&diff=793875305&oldid=793660691). Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:56, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:In regards to the Arcana Heart situation, i found out that the user who posted the character bios of each character (User:Mr. Magoo and McBarker) was likely lifted from this IGN source: (https://www.ign.com/articles/2008/04/01/arcana-heart-character-profiles), which was copied onto the website Onel linked in the template (https://www.castingcall.club/projects/arcana-heart-3-love-max-six-stars-2) but here's the thing: Mr. Magoo and McBarker never stated in that revision history i posted here where he found it. Again, i just took it from the main series' page when i was working on that draft and i legit did not not it was lifted from somewhere else. Sorry for bothering you again about this. Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:18, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
No worries! Sometimes we have to investigate stuff like this to avoid any problems. I figure it was an innocent mistake that you couldn't have realistically known about. BOZ (talk) 21:39, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey man, how're you doing? Look, i managed to finish this draft so could you help me with moving it as a article? Draft:ESP Ra.De. => ESP Ra.De. Roberth Martinez (talk) 14:46, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey there! How're you today? Can you do me a favor with deleting this draft? (Draft:Dragon Ball Z: Idainaru Son Goku Densetsu) Roberth Martinez (talk) 20:08, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ:Hello there buddy! Sorry for bothering you in case you're busy but can you try to integrate these redirects into the Shin Kidō Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel page i made sometime ago? Not rename the article but integrate said redirect names into the Endless Duel article i did => Shin Kido Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel, Gundam Wing Endless Dual, Gundam Wing Endless Duel, Gundam Wing: Endless Duel Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:10, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're looking for in this case. If you want to change which article these redirect to, you can just edit them to say: #REDIRECT [[Shin Kidō Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel]] BOZ (talk) 23:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Thanks for the advice! Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:03, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ:Hey there compadre! I need help once again with moving another draft i just recently finished: Draft:V-Tetris => V-Tetris Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:39, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
No problem - in future, as a reminder, when you have article history with a redirected article, you can always move the old article to draft space and rebuild from there. If you don't remember to do that though, I will always restore the old version after moving the page from draft. BOZ (talk) 22:07, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
You can call me brother if you want User:KGRAMR, that's OK. :) For an example of what I am talking about, see what I did with Draft:Judith Grimes - I restored the article and then right away moved to draft. BOZ (talk) 22:16, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ:Hey there brother! How's it going? Hey, can you help me with this regard? I'm trying to link an article from the Japanese Wikipedia (精霊戦士スプリガン) with its English equivalent (Seirei Senshi Spriggan). But it seems to be connected with another one, as indicated by Wikidata. Can you lend me a hand with this problem? Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:06, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Fixed. :) I deleted it from the other wikidata item, and added it to the one that the English and French articles were on. BOZ (talk) 23:27, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

No problem at all! I merged the edit history with the previous version of the article. BOZ (talk) 18:14, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:Thanks for the Virtual Lab favor! Hey pal, i recently finished another draft i did a few days ago so can also move it? Draft:Virtual Fishing => Virtual Fishing Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:14, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
OK, no problem. I merged the edit histories again. As a reminder, you can always move the existing redirect and edit history to draft to work on it, and then merging is not required. :) BOZ (talk) 01:18, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello there buddy! I recently finished this draft so could you help me with moving it? It's the last Virtual Boy game without an article on Wikipedia :) Draft:Virtual Bowling (video game) => Virtual Bowling Roberth Martinez (talk) 18:54, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Deleted history

Hi Boz, hope you are well. I just realized that a page I created, Deckard Cain, was originally a redirect to Characters of Diablo, which was deleted along with its page history following an AfD sometime ago. Just wondering if you feel whether there is any benefit to undelete the page history for Deckard Cain, like you did with Thrall (Warcraft), considering that there was never consensus to delete the article itself? Haleth (talk) 02:17, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Sure! There wasn't much of anything there, but there it is now. BOZ (talk) 08:59, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Wow, that looked really bad. It was originally taken to AfD because it was written like a hoax lol. Nothing I could use, but it is amusing to see how far Wikipedia has come when it comes to building up credibility across the board for all topics.
I am not sure if it is appropriate for me to ask for the article history of another deleted page, but I recall that an article existed for Melian prior to its deletion, and that it had some sourcing but likely to be predominantly primary in nature. I've come across multiple secondary sources which discussed the character in significant detail recently and I am confident that I could create an article with standards that meet GNG. Are you allowed to draftify the contents of the article's history prior to its deletion? Or is this something only the administrator who deleted the page may do so at their discretion? Haleth (talk) 15:58, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
It looks like the edit history was moved to Melian (Middle-earth). It is always best to request restoring and draftifying from the closing admin first, but if they don't reply in a reasonable timeframe then any admin could do it; if the admin refuses then I think you would need to take it to WP:REFUND and request that an uninvolved admin review for you. Articles that were deleted on a non-consensus action like a PROD, or something that was deleted because the article they redirected to was deleted, should be non-controversial restores if you have the sources to back them up. :) BOZ (talk) 16:16, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Haleth, by the way I wanted to say good work on building and restoring articles for Middle-earth and other characters; that is not always easy work to prove notability for characters, so I love to see it work out. If you were ever interested in taking a crack at D&D characters, I made a brief list here of some potential candidates. :) BOZ (talk) 20:13, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Thank you, and I'll see what my research turns up. I've spent many more years as a passive reader on Wikipedia then as an editor, so I have noticed a lot of changes. While calling for better standards and drawing a clear distinction between what fan wikis and Wikipedia should cover is not a bad thing, it is a shame when some clearly eminent or widely discussed topics are being deleted outright as opposed to being redirected because some editors couldn't be bothered to perform due diligence within genre sources they may not be familiar with to see whether there are sources on the topic, instead of relying on their own subjective opinions to determine whether something is notable. I find that I have better success with characters from video games, anime/comic books, and big literary IP's like Tolkien as there is a lot of reliable secondary sources dedicated to covering these topics. D&D characters for some reason are hardly ever discussed outside of primary sources and fansites/fanzines, and I don't see a compendium discussing good secondary sources dedicated to D&D topics. That said, Dark Alliance is coming out soon, and if it becomes a success and generates enough media attention, Bruenor and Catti-brie may get the coverage necessary to build articles out of. Haleth (talk) 01:40, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Do you know

Any admin who would be interested in copying lead from deleted articles to the relevant list sections like List of Marvel Comics characters: P for Plague or Protector for example? Soft deletion is really not used enough... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 15:04, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind doing that. :) I hit those two, but if you see any others I would take care of them as well. BOZ (talk) 15:58, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Revdel / CSD

BOZ, you look to be active and I know you take part in the comics realm. Could you please take a look at Endless Winter quickly regarding a WP:COPYVIO correction? Thanks, 2pou (talk) 19:16, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Hey there! :) Super busy. What is involved in this situation? BOZ (talk) 19:35, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I guess technically the links have been there a while, and a little longer for another admin won't be the end of the world. Basically, some IP editor added links to illegitimate scans on what definitely looks like a comics piracy website. I removed the links in the references leaving issue numbers, but if someone checks older revisions in the history, the website hosting the pirated images is still available. I just didn't want any further "promotion" of said site via the history. -2pou (talk) 19:39, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Yes, you are right to do that. I think I will let an admin more familiar with the policy and procedure handle that, I don't want to make an error. BOZ (talk) 20:57, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

I thought you might find the new Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction site useful/interesting; also, improvements to the article are welcome! Schazjmd (talk) 02:11, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

BOZ, a belated thank you for the Xmas wishes. I sincerely hope you are staying safe during the ongoing situation. Regards Asgardian (talk) 14:45, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

Review sources?

You're one of the leading authors of RPG articles. Where do you get your print sources? I'd be especially interested if you knew where to find some print reviews of Gurps Steampunk that aren't from Steve Jackson Games magazines, but also just in general. --GRuban (talk) 20:05, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey GRuban, thank you for asking! First and foremost, I would note that GURPS Steampunk is an Origins Award winner, so if you wanted to do something for an article on that book, you would want to include that. For RPGs, my main go-to book source is Shannon Appelcline's Designers & Dragons, which I saw did not mention this book at all; for anything published prior to 1991 or so, I also check Lawrence Schick's Heroic Worlds. I also tend to look on RPGnet, which will often list print reviews, but I do not see any for this one: https://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=1632 and whenever I remember I also check RPGgeek, which in this case does mentioned a review in Alarums & Excursions and apparently a review in a German magazine: https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/45175/gurps-steampunk Failing that (or supplementing that) I may also ask other editors who can sometimes perform a small miracle and find other good sources out there. :) BOZ (talk) 20:52, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! Digging a bit, I can find an archived copy of the German magazine, Anduin, https://web.archive.org/web/20170202044705/http://anduin-fanzine.de/assets/files/anduinpdfs/Anduin78.pdf - and can maybe look for the Alarums and Excursions, at worst I understand I can pay a few dollars to Lee Gold. But both of those are fanzines; are they going to be considered for Wikipedia:Notability purposes? --GRuban (talk) 21:48, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Possibly, with the award as well, but if you want to start a draft to see where it will go, we can look for additional sources as well. BOZ (talk) 22:01, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
A&E has met the bar at RSN, I recall. Its reviews are certainly an RS (in instances where it is independent from the publisher under review). 22:03, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Retitling article?

Can you point me at the Wikipedia resource page explaining how to retitle an article? This is specifically about Ironclads — the actual name of the game is The Ironclads. ("The" on the box cover is very small, but the full name is used by all sources.) It would be useful for me to learn how to do this. Guinness323 (talk) 22:24, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Where the article is at, you see Read Edit Edit source View history Watch More. You click More and it has one thing listed called Move. They make you click a four letter word to gain access to another four letter word, instead of just having move there in the first place. Dream Focus 22:32, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
I just read at Wikipedia:Moving_a_page#How_to_move_a_page if you have a certain thing active, there will be a tab labeled "page" you click on instead of "more". Dream Focus 22:39, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Yep, Dream Focus has the right idea there - if you have any trouble with moving the article, let me know. :) BOZ (talk) 23:17, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you. Very helpful. Guinness323 (talk) 23:27, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Odd coverage gap: critical successes

I'm trying to make Unknown Armies a less sucky article, and I noticed that coverage of crit rolls is surprisingly sparse and split between a couple odd places:

  • Critical success itself is a redlink, not even a redirect to either of the below places
  • Critical hit exists, but is mostly relevant to video game combat, and more broadly to combat checks rather than skill checks
  • Role-playing game terms#C gives a one-line mention that doesn't link to Critical hit, and while frankly more TTRPG-relevant than the full page, is pretty sparse and still leans combat over skill

What do you think is the best place to go from here? Would we be better off expanding the terminology listing or rewriting Critical hit? Vaticidalprophet (talk) 11:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

More power to you on both Unknown Armies and Critical hit. :) I agree that we need more representation for tabletop RPGs on the critical hit/success article (might just want to make a redirect there unless you can find enough sources to expand success as a separate article somehow) and I'm thinking that maybe Health (game terminology) would have some sources that could also apply to critical hits? BOZ (talk) 13:42, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey Boz, I just made Wabbit (video game) after reading this article. I've found a few sources but was wondering if you had any thoughts as to where I might be able to find more. I searched Internet Archive, Google News, and the Wikiproject reference library but didn't find much there. Any suggestions for me? I know you're a wizard when it comes to the older sources. Also, hope all is well on your end! DocFreeman24 (talk) 23:50, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hmm, I didn't see anything for that one! Those are all the places I usually look for sources too. (Maybe some friendly talk page stalkers will come up with something?) BOZ (talk) 02:04, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks BOZ! DocFreeman24 (talk) 02:33, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Eclipse Phase

Hi, could you take a look at Eclipse Phase, there are new categories, genres and references to articles that don't contain references to Eclipse Phase. I'm avoiding a possible edit war. Sciencefish (talk) 17:30, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

It does seem like a lot, but I don't know which ones may be over the top. You may want to consult Wikipedia:Overcategorization for some ideas. BOZ (talk) 21:01, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

[1] I was coming to remove this entry from the RPG Box, only to notice that you instead changed it to a red link. I think we are best off removing the entry. First, of course, because that I decided to write the article based on its entry there! But also because there isn't going to be anything to say about the entry that shouldn't go in the Cthulhu for President article - it's not that long an article that it can't take a few more sentences, and this was quite possibly the first "organized" campaign. --GRuban (talk) 20:19, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

You can go ahead and remove that one if you want to - it's only a bunch of suggestions anyway. :) BOZ (talk) 20:27, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

OK thanks! I took a look and it seems like it was only a name-drop, unless I was missing something. BOZ (talk) 18:39, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, it's more useful for writing about WoD novelizations as a whole (or for verifying the existence of a book in a larger article) than for writing about an individual novel, I'm afraid. Most WoD coverage in these Mammoth books is like that.--AlexandraIDV 09:27, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Retro video games

I posted this on the VG project's talk page, but I am reposting it here in case I need to use it again, since that page auto-archives after one week:

I took a lengthy break in January from working my way through Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/Computer Gaming World, going through the first several years of the run from 1981 and finishing up through 1988. While on this break, I used the time that I would normally have set aside for going through the magazines to instead go back through the articles that I created to find more reviews for them. I found quite a few more sources that way, and I figured I would share my findings here. I will start adding content from these sources as I find the time, but for now I added links to them in the "External links" section. If you would like to also help me work on them, that would of course be appreciated. I would like to thank some of the users who have already worked on some of these, including such users as Archrogue, Bilby, Dgpop, DocFreeman24, FOARP, Griggorio2, JimmyBlackwing, and users like Waxworker and Ylee who have helped out in the past on similar articles from this era.

While going through that magazine from last summer up through earlier this year, I started (or restored, in a few cases) many articles which have at least three or four WP:RS sources, and may well have more:

Plenty of games

Also up through January, I had spent quite a bit of time building up parts of the Reference Library, in particular adding game reviews from several different computing magazines, mostly from the 1980s. While searching for additional sources on my creations on my lengthy break from CGW, I also spent my time building a list of retro game articles for which I had found at least three reviews from my work on the Reference Library. I may eventually start articles for some of these at some point, but for the foreseeable future I have no intentions on doing so in case anyone may wish to have a go at starting any of them. I included links to the Mobygames page (anything without a Mobygames page is marked with an asterisk instead), as well as a link to each review that I found (there are undoubtedly additional reviews out there for most of these):

Numerous redlinks with potential

Hopefully something you see here inspires you!

Testing pings here, since I don't think they worked on either the VG project talk page, or my repost above: Archrogue, Bilby, Dgpop, DocFreeman24, FOARP, Griggorio2, JimmyBlackwing, Waxworker, Ylee. BOZ (talk) 21:18, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks BOZ! I got the ping! I'll take a look at this list! Thank you for compiling all of this! DocFreeman24 (talk) 22:36, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Racek Kobyla may need a block

I just left the latest warning for violating WP:V, WP:NOR, WP:IRS, et al. on this person's page. I think the editor may need a block. Nightscream (talk) 18:44, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Serial vandal User:80.2.122.228

Hi again, BOZ. Sorry to bug you twice in two days, but User talk:80.2.122.228 vandalized an article (actually he reverted my removal of vandalism by another IP account, and after putting a warning on its talk page, I looked through that IP talk page's edit history and discovered a long history of warnings and blocks that he/she blanked from the page in order to obscure his/her history of vandalism. I think this needs a more sustained block. Nightscream (talk) 00:33, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries, yes, I see the problem. Promising to behave better while obscuring the previous warnings is not a good look. BOZ (talk) 02:33, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ: It's not just that. That vandal committed another act of vandalism, which is what drew me to their talk page in the first place, for which I think they need a more sustained block, as I mentioned above. Do you agree?
Also, two other matters related to editors who may need blocks:
One, what is your thinking on the Racek Kobyla matter, which I mentioned above? I notice you did not block that editor. Do you think it's not needed there?
Second, there's one more serial violator of WP:V/WP:NOR/WP:CS who is repeatedly reverting removals of his/her uncited material, Marokita. He/she was issued a first warning on March 22 here after violating those policies from an IP, and then, after signing in with a username account three more warnings here from myself and another editor, the most recent of which was a final warning by myself. If he/she violates policy again, would you be willing to impose a block? Thanks again. :-) Nightscream (talk) 13:22, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
You probably need someone who's better at being a cop than me. ;) BOZ (talk) 13:40, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

DYK for GURPS Steampunk

On 16 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article GURPS Steampunk, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that role-playing-game supplement GURPS Steampunk was the most detailed definition of the steampunk genre when it was published? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/GURPS Steampunk. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, GURPS Steampunk), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

It was an interesting experiment, but then again it was completely overblown and would never have worked. ;) Unless some brave (or crazy) intrepid soul thinks they can make something work out of this one... BOZ (talk) 00:27, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
I don't know which of brave or crazy I am, but I'm sure it's one, and I don't like seeing huge drafts get G13ed. I've moved it to my userspace for now as an emergency measure to get it out of "will be speedied in a few days" range and will go through for list potential, however quixotic, at some point. Vaticidalprophet 13:05, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
LOL, can I choose both options? :) I know that User:Daranios and User:Vulcan's Forge were both trying to make something workable with that, but it is - quite literally - a monster. ;) BOZ (talk) 13:17, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Both work :) I was checking the edit history to narrow down what names to ping -- thank you for saving me trying to puzzle something out of that! I've been dabbling in lists lately, so they still look like "ooh, a challenge!" rather than "a horrible mistake I shouldn't make". Vaticidalprophet 13:24, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Awesome. :) If you really want to have a go at this, Daranios has been doing some excellent work digging up refs at List of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition monsters, so you can mine that for sources as well. It's always been awkward to have only one surviving edition for a list of monsters, but that is the only one they were not able to get rid of so that's what we've got. Also see Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/Where if you're ever in a resurrecting mood. ;) (And there are LOTS more where those came from.) BOZ (talk) 13:28, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Sigh. Yeah, some of those delinked deletions in the history surprised me, and I can freely admit I skew a bit more deletionist than a lot of people in the RPG article area (which means "a lot more inclusionist than the people who start the million AfDs"). D&D interests me less than a lot of other systems, but enough to write about. I don't think it'd be hard to recreate Yuan-ti, which was the one that struck me most -- this would be a fun source... Vaticidalprophet 13:36, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
LOL, nice. BOZ (talk) 13:53, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Beginning scratchpad -- though looking at the rest of the scratchpad maybe I should start actually drawing things and not picking up new ones whenever I get a cool idea 😛 Vaticidalprophet 14:07, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

LOL, I know that feeling - too many projects, and not enough time. ;) I put a copy of the deleted yuan-ti article on the talk page, in case you can find any useful bits from there (infobox at the bare minimum?). BOZ (talk) 14:16, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Admin Assist

Hey, BOZ, how ya doing? I saw your post above on Retro video games, and I'm somewhat interested in taking on Beer Run based on the name alone! A game that old with that theme is screaming for an article! =P.
Anyway, I was hoping you could help me out with a history merge. Could you please merge "Draft:The Totally Rad Show" into the mainspace article to preserve the history attribution? I wanted to restore the page since the awards meet the web notability, and I found some extra refs as well. Thanks a lot, 2pou (talk) 20:58, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Hah!  :) Feel free to tackle it, I don't think anyone is running to beat you to it, and I have been curious about it after seeing the reviews. I did the move and history merge for you! BOZ (talk) 21:32, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi, BOZ, I'm trying to understand how a couple things work via XTools tracking. Could you help me with a couple redirect undeletions at Polaris (comics) (disambiguation) and Neverwinter Nights (disambiguation) to start? These are pages that I had created to help with some page move cleanups. I don't intend to make articles out of them, but to move to more appropriate locations instead of creating new redirects. Thanks! -2pou (talk) 18:53, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
Sure thing 2pou, there you go. :) BOZ (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
That worked. Thank you! After the initial test, could you now do the same for these: Love Live! (disambiguation), The Steam Museum (disambiguation), Spy Kids (disambiguation), Love Live! (disambiguation), Move/Tommy Davis, Move/Tommy Davis 2, and Fofão (disambiguation)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2pou (talkcontribs) 19:40, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi 2pou, I can take a look at these this evening for you. :) BOZ (talk) 19:42, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
Thumbs up icon Awesome. Thanks. If any have a CSD tag, please clear it off so another admin doesn't come around and re-delete it before I get to it. -2pou (talk) 19:45, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
2pou - sorry, forgot about this, doing them now! BOZ (talk) 01:59, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
No sweat, BOZ. There's WP:NORUSH; I just appreciate you going out of your way to help! Thanks for taking care of those. I've got one more in store, but I'm not quite sure how it will work yet. I'll let you know. -2pou (talk) 17:08, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Courtney Stodden needs protection

Hey, BOZ. Could you put a substantial protection on Courtney Stodden? She came out as non-binary, as reported on April 14, and prefers using singular they pronouns, a point that has been added to the article, with citations, but for the past eight days, someone suing multiple Type 6 IP addresses, as well as Type 5 ones, keeps changing the pronouns back, and ignoring the various messages with which I've attempted to communicate with them on those IP talk pages. Can you protect it for a couple of weeks? Nightscream (talk) 04:53, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

It looks like a lot of the pronoun corrections actually came from IPs and newer users, moreso than any vandalism. I wouldn't want to take away their ability to fix up the article. If it gets worse, then I think it would warrant protection. BOZ (talk) 06:30, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
@BOZ:, the constant reverts are continuing. Can you please place the article under protection? Nightscream (talk) 13:39, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
I suppose so; I am still seeing recent IPs activity doing some of the corrections, but there are also IP users doing the vandalism too so regrettably I will put on three days semi. BOZ (talk) 15:16, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Any chance you can find some sources for this? I know it is a collectible for BTech fans (of which I am one), but I can't find sources to show it is notable enough for a stand-alone article... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:08, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

I will see if I can find anything, but admittedly Guinness is a lot better with board game sourced than me; I tend to stumble across them. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Board and table games#Online source database for board and tabletop games?. BOZ (talk) 11:59, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Merging

It's perfectly acceptable to suggest merging for content and history retention purposes, but could you please follow up with the articles and merge them at a later date if there is no opposition? I seem to be putting articles up for deletion which were deprodded by someone else after you suggested merging them, but the merge tags lingered so long that they were removed. TTN (talk) 13:10, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi, there's a user changing a secondary source for the UKGE awards to a primary source on the Expo's website. After reverting and warning they have contined to revert back. Could you possibly look, many thanks. Sciencefish (talk) 14:25, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Hmm, I like BGG as a site, but do we have any info on whether WP considers it a RS? I have only used it to source the most basic info, and even then very sparingly in case it is challenged. BOZ (talk) 14:30, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
That's is a good point. Given Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_269, I'd actually question now that the awards are notable. Sciencefish (talk) 14:39, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Possible move

I recently requested the requestof Ma Hunkel to be moved to Red Tornado (Ma Hunkel) with the reason cited on the Ma Hunkel redirect page. Just a heads up since you are an admin. Jhenderson 777 17:47, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Did you do a requested move on the page to be moved? I'm not seeing it, unless I am just missing it. BOZ (talk) 20:23, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
No I didn’t. I was predicting not much of a response on the discussion page so I was being treating it as a WP:BEBOLD moment. My apologies if wrong. Jhenderson 777 20:28, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Gotcha. Tell you what, I will delete the redirect then so that you can move the page? BOZ (talk) 20:30, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes thanks. Also I did. Looks good if no one objects.Jhenderson 777 20:58, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

New sources

Hey BOZ! I saw these 2 D&D/rpg books recommended in a different context but I immediately thought they might be useful here as sources. Both are by Jon Peterson: The Elusive Shift: How Role-Playing Games Forged Their Identity (December 2020) & the upcoming Game Wizards: The Epic Battle for Dungeons & Dragons (October 2021). My library doesn't have access to the first book but I thought I would put them on your radar. Sariel Xilo (talk) 00:10, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Not to sound like I am canvassing or anything. It’s just that the AFD of this article needs more of a consensus. So far it’s undecided. Jhenderson 777 14:11, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

I see what you mean, but yeah be careful about the appearance of canvassing. I will take a look, but I may not reply to it. BOZ (talk) 14:24, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah I am aware. It’s been relisted and I need more editors related to the WikiProject of it. That’s all. I tried to be as careful as I can be. I don’t know your vote. Jhenderson 777 14:53, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
It feels like the AFD thread is dead. Outside of the same editors who votes redirect. If you know what I mean. Same with WikiProject Comic. So that’s why I didn’t place it there. But I do know you as a member. Jhenderson 777 14:58, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey

I'm conducting another survey for the Wikiproject Video games Newsletter. If you could leave your thoughts on the matter it would be greatly appreciated. Every response will be compiled into a MOS-Esque answer that balances the thoughts of our top contributors. You're one of them! The question is as follows:

What would you consider the requirements of making a video game series article? What about franchise articles?

If you would like to respond, please ping me here and write your reply. I'll handle the rest. Thanks in advance, Panini!🥪 14:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! But, I'm not sure what I would be able to add. BOZ (talk) 14:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Can we talk?

Hi BOZ. So say, we met at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Senyaka.

So, maybe we can have some commonality of interest and work thru this knotty problem together. I saw that you thanked me for my engagement there, and also that you work on cultural stuff (D&D and whatnot). Maybe we have a commonality of interest. You know... "first they came for the television episodes, then they came for the comic books, and then they came for the fantasy characters and there was nobody left to say 'whoa what are we doing here'" sort of thing. Also, you are and admin, and I want to eventually get the attention of the admin corps, or even some help. Or, if I'm barking up the wrong tree, to be so advised.

So, I don't want to summon the two editors I'm talking about, for reasons including that I'd like have a normal conversation and not a shouting match with ideologues, but you can if you think ethics requires it. They'll be plenty of time to air this out, and of course I'll give anyone involved notice and time to prep (if it ever comes to that).

So, the nominator, he's got a history, been here a long time. He's not looking at articles and saying "Oh, here's a bad article". Rather, he's on a ruthless and indefatigable decade+ long crusade against coverage of culture. (Well, popular culture, but most culture is popular culture nowadays, even PhD's and billionaires listen to pop music and watch Hollywood movies now.). So, he was sanctioned by ArbCom for this, a good while ago (2008), here: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Episodes and characters 2. "[The nominator] is prohibited for six months from making any edit to an article or project page related to a television episode or character that substantially amounts to a merge, redirect, deletion, or request for any of the preceding, to be interpreted broadly".

The next month, the editor was "blocked one week for editing articles in violation of these restrictions", and then the next month was "blocked for two weeks violating his restrictions shortly after a previous block". Unblocked after "agreeing to avoid initiating discussions related to his restriction and to refrain from asking others to act on his behalf". (!)

And he did. I guess he did. He moved from TV shows over to comics, and I believe he slowed down (he had been carrying out nominations and blankings-to-redirect and moves at breakneck speed, I think; he stays well under the Wikipedia:Robotic editing radar now. It's an improvement, but its still a problem. (BTW Wikipedia:Fait accompli was lifted directly from this case, where it was directed specifically at this editor: "Fait accompli actions, where actions are justified by virtue of being already carried out, and difficult to reverse, are inappropriate." But I think he's learned. I mean, learned how to better achieve his unyielding agenda without actually getting in trouble.

He's over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics a lot. Not to help (he doesn't like comics after all) but to render the project confused and divided and turn conversations against what they're trying to accomplish there. And he's been called on it, many times, and there are a lot of people who are angry and frustrated. But he has supporters also, so it's a mess. I'm not a member of that project and don't much care about comics (I've written a couple-three short articles on the subject). But as a matter of principle I don't think that's a good look. We don't have people at the Geography project talking about geocruft, or battlecruft at the Miliary History project, and trying to reduce coverage because they don't like the subject. It's an interesting situation and one I haven't seen elsewhere. I guess there's no rule against it... I suppose the assumption was good faith in these endeavors.

The other editor that popped up at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Senyaka, I am actually looking into his contributions. He also is an ideologue and mode of PRODing articles that are are misuse of PROD. When you PROD an article and it goes to AfD and passes easily... that's a problem, if you're an experienced editor and know how things work, if it happens too much. Right now, he's not attacking comics (he has), but has turned on board games and some other stuff. But it's hard to say if it's a problem rather than just a disagreement. Many many hours of work remain ahead.

So, but also, I note that your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Senyaka was "Merge to List of Marvel Comics characters: S". (That article is already 123 kB (prose + HTML) and the MOS suggests articles over 100kb (prose) "almost certainly should be divided" so....) But I'm assuming that you took the nominator at his word: "Article does not meet GNG". That'd be normal, because we assume WP:HONESTY and WP:COMPETENCE. Editors who make claims that aren't true because they either haven't checked or don't care if it's true or not... you have to wonder. I don't mind taking some hours to check an engage on individual borderline AfD cases. When it's the same thing over and over, and based on ideology... it's djust ifferent.

Anyway, I loathe doing this stuff. I like to work on articles. I'm not an admin and riding herd on other editors isn't my job, it's the Admin Corps'. Just following these two around would be a full-time job. I'm not up to it. I think that that's what these guys are counting on, a fabian strategy of exhausting opponents and even better discouraging editors from even working in that area (worked for me). But the ArbCom did say "It is inappropriate to use repetition or volume in order to present opponents with a fait accompli or to exhaust their ability to contest the change." So maybe that still holds.

Anyway, I'm looking for help, I guess, wherever I can get it. I hoping that someday AfD closers -- which basically means admins -- can at least be educated on who they are dealing with here, even if nothing else can be done. I'm exhausted and depressed, and that's not why I come here. Herostratus (talk) 19:08, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey there! First off, I want to say that I sometimes !vote to merge when the sources are not apparent at first, and then change my !vote to keep if sources are found during the course of the AFD. In the case of Senyaka, I am leaning towards doing so based on your arguments, but I am still considering what my approach will be.
I am definitely well aware of the history and behaviors of the AFD nominator in this case. I am of the mind that expanding proper coverage on pop-culture issues is to the betterment and benefit of Wikipedia and its readers, and I believe that people who focus entirely on removing such content are working contrary to that goal. But, that is my opinion. That said, since there are many editors who oppose inclusion of so-called "non-notable" topics, even mentions on lists or in other articles, I don't know what if anything can be done about that other than the extremely uphill battle of changing hearts and minds – and finding good sources for notability whenever possible to decrease the power of edits who focus on deletion.
As for the other editor I believe you are referring to, I actually have had some limited success in the "changing hearts and minds" department, at least in preferring merging over deletion. Since it is possible to sometimes demonstrate notability after the fact by finding sources, I have noticed a change in the trend of his approach to be more open to merging topics that look like they may have future potential for development, rather than outright deletion. Of course, I prefer whenever possible to keep articles intact so that they can be worked on, but I don't have the time, energy, or more importantly the sources to save everything like I would want to do. BOZ (talk) 20:15, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
@Herostratus: it's not just television and comics, but also in the video game and animanga space. MO on Wikipedia is essentially AfD's and PROD's, nothing else. Two longstanding articles for major albeit neglected topics for the Fables series, Frau Totenkinder and Fabletown were stealthily deleted as a result of their PROD's before anyone actually realized what's happened. If it helps to illustrate BOZ's point, that is finding good sources for notability whenever possible to decrease the power of edits who focus on deletion, please refer to the following closed AfD, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyler Ronan. A little rich for the editor to critique and suggest the "parent article" should be expanded as a priority when, as far as I know, they have never made any content additions to any articles whatsoever. But the fact that all I got from the editor were only "comments", as opposed to a call for for outright deletion or redirect at the very least, with nobody else supporting the nominator's ill-advised deletion rationale, reassures me that I might be on the right track when it comes to demonstrating notability when writing fictional topics. Haleth (talk) 13:31, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi User:BOZ. Hi User:Haleth. I am back. I have been away writing articles. This helps my stress. Working on behavioral and political stuff like this doesn't, and as not being an admin I shouldn't have to, but I'll do what I can.
There is lot to unpack here. Boz, you are correct about the two editors, I started a mini-investigation on the second one (I informed him that I was doing this) and yeah first look says that's either a tough case or he's often OK. Haleth I know its not just comics. I'll concentrate on comics right now, I'm spread thin enough. As to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyler Ronan, OK but that took a lot of work. It takes 15 seconds to nominate an article, hours to defend. This is a fabian strategy and its exhausting and after all Fabius did win. And sure, meeting the GNG can help and worked there, but for instance here is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dragonmage (2nd nomination). It easily meets the GNG, plenty of material from bluelinked experts, but but got deleted anyway.
OK. Unpacking.
I just wrote User:Herostratus/No Class Warfare. I propose to make this a touchstone of the counter campaign. The executive summary is that "Delete, fancruft" is similar to "Delete, gaycruft" or "Delete, chickcruft". I intend to make the case that we should hammer this home and make these people wear it, and I propose to make the larger community more aware of this situation. Politics ain't beanbag. And besides, it's true.
Earlier I wrote User:Herostratus/comics. The gist being is that material on comics that meets the GNG shouldn't be deleted. Most Wikipedia articles don't meet the GNG. Whether articles that don't meet the GNG should be allowed to exist sometimes, that's a different issue. But at least, as a start let's drive home the point that articles that meed the GNG should usually not be deleted absent a good reason. Because a lot of comics articles that do meet the GNG are deleted anyway.
As to WIKIPROJECT:COMICS, one big problem, not the only one, is that's it's corrupted by the presence of bullies who aren't there to advance the, you know, coverage of the subject.
Oh here's a fun little interaction from their talk page. I posted

From a thread on Reddit about Wikipedia: "Swear to god, Wikipedia is where I learned a lot of my comic book knowledge on top of finding out about the great stories then finding them at the local library. I was bullied when I was younger, Wikipedia helped me block all that out and just read." Something to keep in mind when curating, maybe.

The response? "What are we supposed to do with an unlinked quote from a random person on a message board? Redefine GNG?"
These are... not nice people. These is not a normal reaction to being given this kind of information about one's work. Something is wrong here. Particularly since these editors ignore the GNG when it suits them. We do not want these people in the project and we're not going to.
Here's another post from the Comics talk page:
"Writing about popular culture, we're automatically viewed as being churlish fanboys. And you will find that there is a lot of support here, as [anti-comics editor] and others pointed out, for deleting some of the cruft. The issue, Herostratus, is that you are comparing apples and oranges. It's very well and true that we could use more articles on train stations, and that expanding coverage of those is a good thing. But those may have (and likely satisfy) completely different notability standards, and, say, no equal non-Wikipedia database that is accessible. We struggle with a bloated amount of content, as evidenced by this deletion spree, that completely fail notability guidelines. So I really don't see the need to sound all the alarm bells, as you have.
Wow, in this one paragraph we're finding evidence of:
  • Bullying, insulting, and intimidating: ("we're [called] churlish fanboys.") (The use of "churl" here is interesting: "a person of low birth; a peasant.")
  • Snobbery combined with rank nonsense: "It's very easy for us to be told 'Oh, this should just be on a FANDOM Wikia.' (Lots of things in Wikipedia are also in other places on the internet, believe it or not.)
  • Direct attack on our core mission of making the internet not suck: "[Material that is already on an] equal non-Wikipedia database that is accessible [doesn't also need to be here]." This is... not how it works and is egregiously anti-Wikipedia and in direct opposition to WP:ENC, the First Pillar. I'm not suggesting that people who say stuff like this are here to damage and diminish the Wikipedia on purpose. I am saying that if they were, this is exactly what they would say. I think that matters.
  • Stockholm syndrome. The writer complains about various types of bullying, then defends it.
This is... not a functional situation, not a functional project. So what to do. Well, I guess set up an actually functional Wikiproject? Purging the current WIKIPROJECT:COMICS is probably out. Second choice would be to set up USERNAME:REAL COMICS PROJECT and migrate people over there. As a userpage the user has a lot more leeway to kick off people who aren't there to help. I hope to find editors to help with this. I'm not up to doing it myself.
There's more, including how to deal with editors who are consistently not WP:HONEST but this is already too long. Herostratus (talk) 01:51, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Biohazard Games

While updating Jeff Barber & Killer Crosshairs, I discovered that Biohazard Games redirects to Resident Evil. Clearly the two things aren't related, but I can't see how to remove the redirect. Can you advise? Sciencefish (talk) 10:48, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I see what you mean; that user's sole contribution was to create an inappropriate redirect. :) Well, I will tell you this, there is some previously deleted content under that redirect which was speedily deleted due to being unsourced, so I restored that first of all[518]. If you've got any sources to build something out of that, I will move it to draft, but otherwise later today when I have some time I will take a look and see what we can do. BOZ (talk) 11:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Given my edits were reverted, I've redirected to Jeff Barber, company founder (I figured out redirects). Sciencefish (talk) 13:17, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
I will see what else can be done here; Designers & Dragons was exactly where I was about to look. BOZ (talk) 13:29, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Opinion on source

Hi Boz, hope you are well. I am thinking of writing a BLP on someone who's done/dabbled in a lot of stuff, including board games. Just asking for your opinion on whether this could be suitable for a BLP per WP:Interview? Haleth (talk) 13:31, 12 June 2021 (UTC) Oh, and this one as well. I somehow found it randomly while searching for sources. Haleth (talk) 13:56, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure about the first website as I am unfamiliar with it, but as being just an interview I think it would be OK for some basic facts. As for the second site - which I used for my own wedding back in the day - I think that is mostly user-generated, so I'm not sure how much you can use it for, unless you just want to cite a wedding date or something? BOZ (talk) 18:20, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes, it's just to cite who he is married to and when it took place. They had a Gofundme page so it I presume that in this case, it isn't a private, low profile that shouldn't be mentioned on a biography. Haleth (talk) 02:26, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Any interest in science-fiction TV stuff?

I'm attempting to get stuff cleaned up at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Nigel Kneale/archive1 so the FA status can be kept, but I'm frankly getting to the point where I'm not familiar enough with the subject matter to really address all of it. Does your interest in fantasy and related topics extend to mid 20th-century sci-fi TV stuff? Or do you know of a project page where I might be able to get some help in working on this? Hog Farm Talk 05:01, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for asking! :) I do have some interest in mid 20th-century sci-fi TV stuff, but to be honest, unfortunately I have no familiarity with this fellow at all, or most of his works, and no idea where to begin. The nominator listed the FAR at the two less active WikiProjects that his article is a part of, and at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography/Arts and entertainment for the Bio WikiProject, but I'm not sure how much actual discussion takes place on any of those pages; Wikipedia:WikiProject Television seems like another logical place to attempt to seek help. Best of luck on the FAR! BOZ (talk) 10:19, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Adam Hughes talk page

Hi. You may recall "Real_Power"_poster in April 2019 we had a disruptive IP editor with an Austin, Texas-based IP constantly reverting the wording in passages in the Adam Hughes article pertaining to the "Real Power in the DC Universe" poster. Now another Austin-based IP is doing so, beginning with this edit. I then reverted it, explaining why their edits were not improvements, but they reverted it again, insisting I take it to the talk page, which I did "Real_Power_of_the_DC_Universe"_passage here. Can you participate? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 02:42, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

I can take a look at this probably tomorrow. At the moment, rest is greatly needed. BOZ (talk) 04:24, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Understood. By the way, the editor in question -- who is the one who said we should take it to the talk page in the first place --- is continuing to edit the disputed portion of the article to bring it to his liking ([519], [520]), even though he knows that the talk page discussion has begun, and has begun participating in it himself. Isn't this considered inappropriate? Isn't this grounds for reverting the article to its last state before the discussion began, locking the article down, and/or blocking if the offending editor? I advised the editor of this on his talk page. Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 17:45, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Jadis

Well it does in that we can say nothing about her personality during the blank period :-). She appears to be CRM in World Beyond - possibly senior but this could still be misdirection but will be important one way or other in personaliy terms Citizensmith (talk) 02:17, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Sure, but then it is better to wait to add something to that section when we actually have something to say. Anyway, I plan to search for more sources tomorrow to keep the article from being merged or deleted. BOZ (talk) 02:25, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Understood - I doubt it would pass a merge or deletion now based on recent google news search results hopefully done prior to voting (but who knows). Would probably have done last week though and I wouldn't have removed merge without recent character news. Citizensmith (talk) 02:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

It seems to me that we can add the screenshot image widely used elsewhere of Jadis in CRM outfit turning back to face the camera ( https://www.tvfanatic.com/gallery/jadis-returns/ ) under a fair use rationale. That is we are showing the character development and how they initially appear in a spin off tv show as opposed to the parent. Multiple other fictional characters (including Walking Dead) use additional images that show different phases. The use of 2 non-free with justification in entire article with the second thumbnail at the head of The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 seems okay to me. Any thoughts? Citizensmith (talk) 19:35, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Maybe, but since this is the same actress I'm not sure we would need multiple in-universe (non-free) pictures of her. BOZ (talk) 19:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Would be a nice additional illustrative image (illustrative of new show, yet another appearance change, soldier? etc.) to have in the article but you are probably right. A general maximum of 2 seems to be allowed on some other articles on fictional characters (with same actor/actress) if good justification can be given but this might not cross the hurdle at this time - especially as we can't be sure what exactly we are illustrating yet and what role she actually has! Article creation/writing concerns

Boz, I'm a bit concerned about the articles you're creating.

  1. Its alarming how many articles you create while using only one source. See WP:ONESOURCE. Just writing the name of other sources at the bottom doesnt solve the issues.
  2. When you do use more than one source, you write articles like this, where it's essentially just one giant WP:QUOTEFARM. Like 80% of that article is direct quotes. We're not an aggregator like Metacritic, we're an encyclopedia.

In both situations, you're getting into murky territory when it comes to WP:GNG and WP:COPYVIO. It feels...very weird to be having this conversation with an experienced Admin. And it feels like you've been through this before, with both me and the community. How do we get this to stop? Sergecross73 msg me 15:46, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

I don't mean to cause a problem. I can just stop creating new articles. BOZ (talk) 17:06, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
I mean, I really meant more stop with the ONESOURCE and QUOTEFARM stuff, but if stopping altogether is the only way to stop that, so be it I suppose. Sergecross73 msg me 18:20, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

GURPS, Elves, Shameless Self-Promotion

I had my first GURPS supplement, GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves, published recently. The Elves in fiction article has a GURPS section. But I'm really hesitant about adding a description of my own supplement to that and the GURPS Fantasy Folk article. (Note that fantasy folk supplements have been on the Steve Jackson Games wish list for over 10 years with no results. But before Elves was even published there were two more in the series waiting for playtest/peer review. You can see an announcement about my book and the other two in-the-works books at https://dr-kromm.livejournal.com/258220.html and https://dr-kromm.livejournal.com/257449.html

More info is at https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Elves_in_fiction#A_GURPS_book_about_elves

Could you add something about it or give me permission to do it? I know, permission may not technically be required, but I really want to avoid the "who said you could promote your own work?" thing. Alden Loveshade (talk) 03:47, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Yep, we definitely don't want to be doing any self-promotion, nor would it be good form to have anyone do it on your behalf. You might want to try asking on the talk page of WP:COIN to see if they can suggest a decent way to do this that doesn't get you into any trouble, though? BOZ (talk) 03:55, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion! There was something else I was associated with that was on Wikipedia for years. Then someone who didn't like me and who rarely edited here removed it and parts of other articles associated with me. They could remove them out of spite, but I have to go through formal channels to get it back.
Sorry, I'm just being bitter--I do appreciate your suggestion!. Alden Loveshade (talk) 04:03, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

S. John Ross (game designer)

I may have asked you this years ago and forgot, so forgive me if I'm asking twice.

I started the article on S. John Ross (game designer) in February 2014. But then I saw there was an edit history, including edits by you, before I "started" it! I just saw something on your user page about "S. John Ross (deleted at AFD)." So does that mean earlier edits before mine had been deleted, but then were restored to the edit history? Alden Loveshade (talk) 03:57, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes, there was an earlier version of the article that had been deleted at AFD, but which I may have been working on in draft space, and when I saw your version I merged the edit histories together. BOZ (talk) 03:59, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I've been trying to contact you, both with "pings" and with a message on the WikiProject page, about three newbie accounts that have been blanking relevant, source-supported content from the Nathan Edmondson article because it constitutes critical information about him, specifically a past arrest for credit card theft and sexual harassment allegations. They have ignored repeated warnings placed on their talk pages, as well as invitations to a talk page discussion where two other editors agreed the sexual harassment allegation material should remain, and a third agrees the credit card theft info should stay. They persistently revert the material, falsely claiming in edit summaries that the material is "vandalism", that the is sourced to "blogs" (they are not), etc. Can you please revert to the most recent intact version and lock down the article to incentivize that editor to join the discussion, and join it yourself. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 14:21, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

It looks like you are working this out with User:Argento Surfer, so if the two of you have a consensus worked out on how you want the article to look, and the other editor(s) continue to revert and not discuss, then let me know what version you have worked out (provide a diff please) and I will protect it in that state to provoke the other user(s) into discussing with you instead of reverting. BOZ (talk) 16:34, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
We do not have a consensus. Can you please join the discussion? Nightscream (talk) 18:04, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
I don't really know what I can add to that. BOZ (talk) 18:24, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Block needed on User:108.29.73.124

Hi, BOZ. Can you block User:108.29.73.124. He has been warned numerous times for disruptive edits, specifically adding uncited material and blanking source-supported content from the Brian Wood article, for which I've warned him several times since June 2020. I warned him three times this year, with the last warning have been in August, and he just did it again today. Can you block him? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 18:03, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Do you wanna help with reliable sources?

Hi, thank you so much for sending your thanks. I am new to Wikipedia in English, although I have 8 years of experience in Portuguese. I like comics, cartoons, animes, video games and I saw that you have some articles in the draft that need references. Do I understand correctly? I can help in this regard, if you wish and if I understood correctly. Greetings, Luidje (talk) 09:19, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Yes, absolutely, I appreciate anything you can do to help. :) BOZ (talk) 13:17, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer, @BOZ:! I did a first edition on Thomas Lehmann. Could you evaluate if this is what you need and if I am on the right way? If there are enough reliable sources, will you evaluate when the draft is able to go to the main domain or would it be up to whoever adds the sources? Thanks! Luidje (talk) 23:18, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
We're definitely going to need more reliable independent sources on that one before moving it back to main space. Since this one was previously deleted at AFD, I think the best thing to do when it was ready would be to have an independent reviewer at AFC to assess whether it is ready to move back to main space. Any efforts you can add to that are appreciated. :) BOZ (talk) 01:26, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Got it, @BOZ:. Thank you so much! I see this link: [521]. There are 35 articles. Are they in similar condition? My question is: assuming I enter dozens of reliable sources in one of the articles, would you submit it to an independent reviewer or should I? If possible I would ask for help, please with a second question: there are primary or unavailable sources in some of the articles. Would it be possible to remove them? Or would it only be allowed to add reliable sources? Luidje (talk) 13:39, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Hey there, do what you need to do to make improvements where you can. When you have improved the references on any of these thoroughly, we will see where we can take it after that. :) BOZ (talk) 13:42, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
I understand, @BOZ:. Thank you so much for your answer. So I'm going to work on them. See you soon, Luidje (talk) 15:10, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello BOZ, hello Luidje! Sorry for jumping in here: @Luidje: I don't know exactly where your editing interests lie and if they include Dungeons & Dragons and related stuff, but seeimg that you have experience in Portugese: This academic paper, which I think is in Portuguese, could perhaps be used to improve Mind flayer, Underdark, Dagon in popular culture, Cthulhu Mythos in popular culture and maybe others. Any work in that direction would be greatly appreciated, only if it should suit your interests of course. Daranios (talk) 20:26, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, User:Sdkb! Since the page says I can't nominate anyone else since I am already on the list, if any friendly talk page stalkers want to volunteer, I will give you a list of names to add. ;) BOZ (talk) 23:55, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
