What a long, strange trip

[edit]

This infamous game has gone through quite a journey on Wikipedia! Deleted at AFD in 2005, recreated and deleted again in 2007, recreated once more and deleted at AFD again in 2010, and finally rebuilt recently by User:Vaticidalprophet and it appears today as a DYK on the main page. BOZ (talk) 00:34, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's a hell of a topic, ain't it? "FATAL for TFA" is a joke with a few friends on Discord now that I'm starting to wonder about the possibility of. I wonder how big a DYK this will be -- it'll be interesting to see if, say, /r/rpg notices. I'm certainly keeping an eye on the watchlist for vandalism. Vaticidalprophet (talk) 00:44, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Since this topic is now up for GA, I wanted to share this with all of the users who worked on the article at some point even for minor edits, posted on its talk page, or participated in either of the AFDs, since this is an example of what can be done with a relatively obscure topic to improve it so significantly. :) (Minus all the IPs and bots, of course.): @Sam Korn:, @Teucer:, @Ghost Police:, @Treeleaf~enwiki:, @Almafeta:, @Ravenhull:, @Agamemnon2:, @Iceberg3k:, @Halloween jack:, @Aeonite:, @Red Director:, @Zerfetzen:, @David Gerard:, @Gdavidp:, @Xian4250:, @Canageek:, @Apeloverage:, @BillFlis:, @J Milburn:, @HRDingwall:, @RJHall:, @Saxifrage:, @Kwiki:, @McJeff:, @Percy Snoodle:, @Ravenswing:, @Hobit:, @Artw:, @PeterSymonds:, @GB fan:, @Anthony Appleyard:, @Elliot321:, @Goszei:, @Jiawen:, @Dr Archeville:, @Carolus~enwiki:, @BodvarBjarki:, @Guinness323:, @Gmaxwell:, @Zzyzx11:, @Jarcane:, @Samaritan:, @Psyk0:, @Quale:, @Cdc:, @Gene93k:, @Jclemens:, @Edward321:, @Grue:, @Timotheus Canens:, @Smappy:, @DustFormsWords:, @Quantpole:, @Starblind:, @X!:, @TenPoundHammer:, @Reyk:, and @Someone another:. It's passed. Funniest GA of all time, though I almost want to try expand it more. The interview is a source of endless hilarity -- did you know James Hausler, creator of FATAL, is quote-unquote "creeped out" by LARPers? I guess he decided to draw the line somewhere. (As for the ping list, I think it might be past the limit of 'how many people you can ping at once'? At any rate, a lot of those people are inactive, and one of the active names I can recognize doesn't like me very much...also, I think 'Zerfetzen' might be Hall himself.) Vaticidalprophet 07:40, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I might take the trouble to weed out the inactive users and try it one more time, just to share the good/interesting news about the crazy journey for this article, and the craziness of the article itself. ;) By the way, I guess LARPers are just not that interested in playing out one's anal circumference statistics? BOZ (talk) 12:43, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Trying again one final time, this time pinging only users who have been active within the past year: @Red Director:, @David Gerard:, @Canageek:, @Apeloverage:, @BillFlis:, @J Milburn:, @Saxifrage:, @Ravenswing:, @Hobit:, @Artw:, @GB fan:, @Anthony Appleyard:, @Elli:, @Goszei:, @Carolus~enwiki:, @Guinness323:, @Gmaxwell:, @Zzyzx11:, @Samaritan:, @Quale:, @Gene93k:, @Jclemens:, @Edward321:, @Grue:, @Timotheus Canens:, @DustFormsWords:, @Starblind:, @X!:, @TenPoundHammer:, and @Reyk:. BOZ (talk) 12:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have to say I was content to let it die on the basis of being both gross and not interesting. Hobit (talk) 13:26, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have only the faintest recollection of this game (it sounds hideous) and the most recent AfD. Most of the sources in the current article are younger than the last AfD for it, so I'm not sure we got it wrong back then. Reyk YO! 14:17, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely admit to jumping on the GA review on the basis of a bile fascination - it offends the sensibilities, and yet you have to look, because the fact that people sat down and thought "this is good and people will like it" just beggars belief. ♠PMC(talk) 20:45, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is a GA? OK, I too am amazed - David Gerard (talk) 14:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Quite proud of Vati for this one. Elli (talk | contribs) 20:37, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good job! I knew it had potential back in 2010 because anyone who had anything to do with RPGs has heard of this game. Maybe RPGs themselves weren't mainstream enough back then though.  Grue  11:31, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One more time for the record; this article was also deleted three other times (in 2005, 2007, and 2008) under the title FATAL after the first AFD. People really wanted this page to exist. ;) BOZ (talk) 19:03, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Theme song

[edit]

@Vaticidalprophet: Hey there. In order to comply more with WP:NFCC#3b, I want to replace the WAV file with either mp3 or ogg. But I also want to resample the segment from the source you retrieved it from. I just couldn't find an authorized source providing the theme song. --George Ho (talk) 20:41, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
