I took notes on the book while I was reading it. The article should mention that he wants to waive the federal income tax for anyone earning 25k or less per annum for example. Do we need to find third-party references for this, or would we have to give the page number in the book?Zigzig20s (talk) 19:26, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

I think a third-party reference would be preferred, though I wouldn't have a problem with using the book as a source if you include a brief quote in the citation template so readers can verify. Or, perhaps include both the book as a source and add a third-party source if one can be found? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:51, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
The problem is the press has mostly lambasted the book, without reading it. I did a close reading. It's a serious book.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:54, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
My impression is that in book articles, the book itself (with page number) is a valid source for the "content" part of the article when the content is pretty straight forward (I asked about this issue when I reviewed a book article for DYK). Although, one should not cherrypick of course, but include the main themes/points in the book, and often it would be naturally to be relatively in line with what third party sources have focused on. Articles on books should also include background/context (if applicable), analysis (if applicable) and reception, and it's in those parts independent sources are necessary. Iselilja (talk) 21:08, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

I don't want to sign up on this project, or create the template, but a footer template just about Donald Trump is coming close to being a necessity. That overlarge and possibly confusing 'Trump family' template is already mostly about Donald Trump, and much of it could be converted to a single-person template. Rumor is that Trump is going to build a wall around Wikipedia and make Britannica pay for it. Randy Kryn 22:36, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

p.s. Just had a look at the template again and it could fairly easily be organized to be a 'Donald Trump' traditional template with a large 'Family' section. Donald is obviously the most notable and the template likely wouldn't have been created without him. Randy Kryn 1:14, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Assessment

Just a warning to project participants: Since this project is brand new, a couple days may be needed for the WikiProject banner and assessment categories to work properly. Currently, the Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) article is marked as GA-class, but the article does not appear in Category:GA-Class Donald Trump articles yet. Reassessing main-article quality

Should we reassess the Donald Trump article for quality?

Some of the facts in the article aren't supported by the cited sources or are actually contradicted by relevant mainstream sources. (One minor example appears in graf 3 in the lead, where the value given – which was prudently removed by the contributor but then reinstated by a second editor – for 'October 2016' is beginning could reasonably begin to diverge from the dynamic source, which is updated daily.) The article may now be getting too many questionable edits to verify in a timely way.

The lead seems to have become increasingly slanted toward recent events. I have to think that the article as a whole may now be in conflict with WP:BALAPS policy. --Dervorguilla (talk) 22:38, 17 October 2016 (UTC) 04:45, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

I agree that the article is becoming increasingly focused on recent events. On that note, I think that we should wait until at least after November 8, Election Day to try to change this. On that day, the article is going to change significantly, as it depends on whether Trump wins or loses the election. epicgenius - (talk) 23:56, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
@Epicgenius: To clarify, do you think we should wait to try to change the article's assessment or wait to try to change its "becoming increasingly focused on recent events"? --Dervorguilla (talk) 04:02, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I agree with Dervirguilla that we should wait to reassess and change the article drastically until after 8 November. After the results are in Trump could be president. And by that time article will be changed drastically no matter what. To do something assessment to major change wise right now would be pointless so close to the election.--BabbaQ (talk) 09:05, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
@Dervorguilla: Exactly, just like BabbaQ said. I wouldn't bet on Trump being elected though. He has a less than 20% chance of being elected as of now. epicgenius - (talk) 13:05, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
None of that sort of talk, please, epicgenius! We aren't talking about percentage likelihood chances of election here. Things changed since 18 October, and might change again between now and 8 November.--FeralOink (talk) 18:12, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
@Dervorguilla: I think I was unclear here. I meant that the recentism should be trimmed ASAP. As for the article quality, it should wait until after Election Day. epicgenius - (talk) 17:18, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I think that recentism is something that always happens to articles when the article subject is in intense media spotlight for an extended period of time. Overall article standard etc will only be properly taken care of after 8 November. Any attempt to establish some 100% neutrality in the article will not be possible until after 8 November in my opinion. No matter what the result will be the article will most likely have a high number of edits for several days after the result day.BabbaQ (talk) 21:21, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I also believe we should wait until the dust settles before seriously reassessing. Regarding recentism in ledes, the Talk:Donald Trump#Potential paragraph at end of lede on sex abuse allegations RfC may be of interest.LM2000 (talk) 00:01, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
@BabbaQ and LM2000: So I guess we should wait to reassess the article then? epicgenius - (talk) 01:34, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

It does sound like the current article is in significant conflict with WP:BALAPS policy. So in our assessment, at least, it's closer to C than B on the quality scale. --Dervorguilla (talk) 09:26, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, it does need some clean up. As the Donald would say, "Make Donald Trump B again!" epicgenius - (talk) 13:10, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
From my perspective, it seems like the article places undue weight on the sexual misconduct allegations, but I am not uncomfortable with the amount of WP:LEAD real-estate given to the presidential campaign. It's a key aspect of his WP:Notability. It has been a record-breaking presidential campaign with worldwide press coverage; in that respect, I don't think that the article as a whole conflicts with WP:BALASP. Parts of the lead paragraph, however, do. AlexEng (talk) 06:14, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

I have taken a stab at beginning an article on efforts to impeach Donald Trump, modeled after Efforts to impeach Barack Obama and Efforts to impeach George W. Bush. I am on the fence about whether it is too early to move to mainspace, but this has been a very unusual election cycle all around (for example, I created Donald Trump Supreme Court candidates far earlier than the usual time frame for creation of those articles because of the early Supreme Court vacancy). Thoughts? bd2412 T 17:29, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Ridiculous--and, for the sake of policy, too early.Zigzig20s (talk) 17:35, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Also, is there not a problem with recentism here? Do we have similar articles for Carter, Andrew Johnson, etc.?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:39, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
If there are sources discussing efforts to impeach Carter, there should be an article. We do have an article on the Andrew Johnson impeachment. If there was an effort leading up to this, it would have been moved to the "Impeachment of" title once it had culminated in impeachment. bd2412 T 17:50, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
If you're on the fence about moving the draft into the main space, then wait a while, but thanks for getting the ball rolling. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:42, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
At this point all you have is various comments. To create an article you need to show that reliable secondary sources have pulled it all together and made it into a topic. Otherwise it is just biased synthesis. If and when the mainstream begins reporting the topic, we will have opinions expressed by opponents of impeachment and informed commentary from experts. So we can determine whether an informed opinion is that people calling for impeachment are a serious force or not. Note that history treats the moves to impeach Nixon and Clinton differently. In the meantime, the anti-Trump protests have enough coverage for an article, if that has not been done already. TFD (talk) 19:00, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
I will try to find sources indicating that members of Congress or legal experts have articulated specific grounds for impeachment, then. bd2412 T 19:51, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

some help taking over the polling page

Opinion polling on the Donald Trump administration has been accused of numerous NPOV violations a few minutes ago. Despite my best efforts to encourage other editors, I've been the only person working on this page since it started. I thought it was an area that, because it just dealt with numbers, couldn't become controversial; I try to avoid controversy pages so I think I'm going to stop working on it but I wanted to drop a quick note here strongly encouraging all persons interested in this topic to give it some attention so it doesn't stagnate. Thank you. DarjeelingTea (talk) 03:33, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist, was reportedly banned from getting his work published after criticizing Trump. Obviously, this appears to be a case of freedom of the press (or lack thereof) in Saudi Arabia, not Trump's fault. However, could someone please fix the subsection, currently sourced with RT in Spanish? As far as I can tell, RT is not a reliable third-party source by Wikipedia standards. Here's another RT article in English:

  • "Saudi journalist banned from writing after criticizing Trump". RT. December 6, 2016. Retrieved February 14, 2017.

I have also found an article on the Middle East Eye website, which may be a reliable third-party source:

Is anyone able to find any coverage in The New York Times or The Washington Post please? In any case, I would appreciate it if someone else could update this subsection in the article appropriately. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:29, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Motion to form comittee

It is truly impossible to run an impartial anything when it comes to politics. Therefore the easiest way to obtain a fair consensus and direction is to have an equal number of declared supporters and opponents involved in the discussion. Having people hide their political views will either swing this project to be too pro-Donald Trump or to anti-Donald Trump and in a position in which is is certain to fail WP:NPOV. At the very least a committee should be formed of an equal amount of declaed pro-Trump and anti-Trump users to ensure the artiles covered by this projet are fair, balanced and NPOV. Entry on "Falsehoods of the Trump Administration"?

Dear Wikipedia users,

I am a new user and in order to counteract the current trend of "post-truth" I would like to create an list entry on "Falsehoods of the Trump Administration". I believe it could be a useful resource for journalists and the public and have started drafting it here List of falsehoods of the Trump Administration. However I am not sure it is neutral/objective enough in its current form. I am thus wondering if you could provide some guidance as to how to draft this for it to be published.

Kind wishes and thanks in advance,

FelixundStein (talk) 13:35, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Hate crimes

There seems to have been an increase in various types of hate crimes due to the affect of Trump on the political landscape. I'd like to write about those, but I'm not sure where to best put them, or if they would warrant their own article discussing the issue. Thanks in advance! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:21, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

The article would most likely be a violation of SYNTH and OR. Consider that the FBI reports that when a religion is the target, it is more often than not, Jews as the target. They also report growing anti-semitic incidents for quite a few years, not just since Trump. So to say that Trump is the cause is incorrect. Sir Joseph (talk) 16:17, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
@Sir Joseph: Raw data on hate crimes are compiled locally, not nationally, and monthly, not daily. So your comment that "there seems to have been an increase in various types of hate crimes" is important information. How did you find this out? --Dervorguilla (talk) 03:51, 7 March 2017 (UTC).

Help required

Hi all. Quick question. Colleague here at the University of Edinburgh, FelixundStein, created a draft article Draft:List of falsehoods of the Trump Administration and it initially got turned down in the AfC review. He's since tidied it up and I think there's some good content there but he's been waiting for 2 weeks + for the article to be reviewed once more because of the backlog. We may need to change the title of the page to something less inflammatory and the Corrections column could be slightly rephrased to remove phrases like Both numbers are false (believe the facts are more damning without any editor's notes attached) but otherwise I'd like to crowdsource opinion as to whether the article could stand, either as part of another related article, or on its own two feet? Out of interest I see there is another draft awaiting review Draft:Timeline of the Trump-Russia Scandal and the Donald Trump wiretapping claim article so we're in the same ballpark, right? @Megalibrarygirl and Another Believer:. What do you think? Best, Stinglehammer (talk) 16:35, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

I have started a short article on the 2018 United States federal budget, which project members are welcome to help expand. There is a lot to cover (mostly the department-level cuts and program cuts), and this will likely be a hot-button issue for a few weeks. SounderBruce 18:53, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Possibly, but worth investigating. There is an existing article for "Nasty woman", which was (I believe) said by Trump about Clinton during the same debate. People's Climate Mobilization

Resolved

I created an article for the upcoming People's Climate Mobilization, which has also been called the People's Climate March but should not be confused with the 2014 event in New York City. I went ahead and added the "WikiProject Donald Trump" banner to the article's talk page, but I'd like project members to help decide whether or not this article should be considered part of the "Trump protests" series. Organizers are directing demands at Trump, but they've also acknowledge that planning for the demonstration began prior to the election, and they would have organized a similar event had Hillary Clinton won the election. In other words, this protest is related to Trump, but (at least not from what I've seen so far) not necessarily a reaction to Trump's election and a protest again him and his presidency. I've only read a few sources so far, and this sentiment might change between now and the day of the event, but I could use help expanding the article from others, if you have any interest. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:41, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

I'd like a third-party to assess the article Donald Trump presidential campaign, 2020. I feel it might warrant a higher assessment than C-class, but I am far to involved in editing the article to have a non-biased opinion of it. Because of that, I am wary to upgrade it past C-class myself.

Breitbart tutorial on BLP

Tom Ciccotta, "UC Berkeley Professor Banned from Wikipedia over Anti-Trump Edit Project", Breitbart, May 9, 2017.

A course description for [Professor] Gelobter’s course on environmental justice activism at UC Berkeley posted on Wikipedia argued that the first few months of the Trump administration have been uniquely “anti-environmental, sexist, and racist.”
The post was ultimately removed, as Wikipedia prevents unsourced negative claims about living people. A Wikipedia editor said that the line about the Trump administration was a “blatant BLP [Biography of Living Person] violation,” which means that commentary on a living person does not come from a “neutral point of view.”

Template:Donald Trump series

Unresolved

PerfectlyIrrational updated Template:Donald Trump series to include protests, then updated a bunch of Trump-related articles by adding this template. This template now includes some of the same links as Template:Protests against Trump sidebar and Template:Trump presidency. I think this conversation has already started in a couple different locations, but can we discuss how to reduce redundancy between these 3 templates and fix the articles accordingly? ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:14, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

@PerfectlyIrrational: In case you wish to contribute to this discussion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:00, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
This has been resolved for now (the protests have been removed from the template, and the template has been removed from a series of protest-related articles). ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:29, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

So the "Protests again Trump sidebar" was converted to Template:Protests against Trump footer. I don't have a problem with this conversion, but we still have the problem of redundancy with Template:Presidency of Donald Trump, which has a section with the same protest links. Should these template be combined? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:23, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I'm not really sure when sidebars are preferred, and I'm not opposed to converting the Trump series sidebar to a navigation footer template, but we definitely need to address the problem with articles displaying sometimes as many as three templates with the same links. The redundancy here must be addressed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:31, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Agree the redundancy here must be addressed. And if they're all converted to footer templates, with appropriate sections in them by topic to make it easier for our WP:Readers first to find stuff, then there's more room for more links, and I wouldn't mind redundancy in that case, then. March 4 Trump

So, the head of Gays for Trump has been asking editors to improve the March 4 Trump and Gays for Trump articles (see talk pages). I might get around to working on the M4T article, but I am currently focused on expanding and promoting Impeachment March to Good article status (see? I can be neutral! :p) In the meantime, are there any editors who are interested in working on the March 4 Trump article? I'd love to see this promoted to Good status as well, and I don't think the article would take too long to expand. Just trying to get more eyes on this article, and see if there are editors willing to help. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:19, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

First goal would be to improve the articles, so they both amply demonstrate notability, so they don't get deleted from Wikipedia. Sagecandor (talk) 17:02, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

2017 Unite the Right rally

I added the WikiProject Trump banner to 2017 Unite the Right rally's talk page, but my edit was reverted. I added the tag because the word "Trump" appeared in the prose 24 times. I'll let other project members decide if we want to tag the article as part of this project or not. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:29, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

As American Health Care Act of 2017 isn't in this project, it seems likely that this article doesn't need to be either. However, there's probably a 50% chance Trump says something in the next 48 hours that changes my view here. Power~enwiki (talk) 04:36, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
David Duke: "This represents a turning point for the people of this country. We are determined to take our country back, we're going to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump, and that's what we believed in, that's why we voted for Donald Trump, because he said he's going to take our country back and that's what we gotta do." I've clicked the CNN livestream on YouTube ten or eleven times over the past three days, and every single time, they were talking about Trump's reaction to this thing instead of the thing. William Browder's Testimony, The Magintsky Act. Trump Jr.. Natasha V., etc.

Browder's Testimony to the Senate Committee in July included a lot of info that could add context to some wiki pages, but I am having trouble finding good sources (other than the direct source, c-span) who describe the findings that need addressing, Worried parts will get removed on the technicality so will leave a summary here for the more wiki-savvy to deal with if that is acceptable. sorry if not.

https://www.c-span.org/video/?431852-1/william-browder-overturning-magnitsky-act-putins-top-priority

Around 2009, WIlliam Browder became the target of a viscious smear campaign in and outside the US, orchestrated by the Russian Oligarchy in retaliation for his tenacious lobbying of Congress to pass "The Magnitsky Act." The smear campaign in the states was headed by a female Russian lawyer, using a company called Fusion GPS as a medium to do this through. iirc, an nyt journalist got burned pretty hard for some of the stories he posted about browder.

Browder's testimony clarifies the #1 priority of Russian Oligarchs is the repeal the Magnitsky act.

Natasha V, the russian lawyer with direct ties to the Russian Oligarchy who met with Trump jr, worked previously with the Organization (Fusion GPS) that hired the spy who put together the Trump dossier to run a viscous smear campaign against Browder when he began lobbying congress for and after he suceeded in passage of the Magnitsky Act. She also set up an NGO in violation of the foreign agent registration act called the Human Rights Accountability Global Initiative Foundation, which claims to advocate bringing Russian adoptions back the United states as a front for the Magnitsky repeal effort. If you don't remember, Trump Jr. was originally quoted saying that one o the reasons he thought he was meeting with natasha was to discuss adoptions. (Putin halted all american adoptions of russian children in retaliation to the US passing the magnitsky act)

Browder lays out the cunningness of Russian adversaries, describing how they pursue political intetests and make political contributions in part via circumvention of FARA working through shell corporations and other US owned organisations like Fusion GPS, as well as using witting and unwitting citizens to set up orgs like the Human Rights Accountability Global Initiative Foundation. Also noting a predilection for playing both sides. It corroborates Trump Jr.'s explanation of his meeting with Natasha being as absurd as it was innocuous (for a person conducting Political Opposition research). And ties the same Russian oligarchy Trump is supposed to be colluding with to the creation and dissemination of one of the most catastrophic relics of his presidential tenure, the dossier.

Glen Simpson is one of the owners of Fusion GPS amd was supposed to testify the same day as Browder but stood up the senate committee. Havent heard about him since july though

Browder's Testimony was actually scheduled for the day before but Dems invoked something called the 2 hour rule which pushed it a day over. The repubs seemed pretty pissed about this, I don't understand what happened with that enough to explain it though.

Another interesting take away was Browder's assertion at the beginning of the testimony that Putin is the richest man alive with a very large chunk of his wealth existing in assets frozen by the Magnitsky Act.

I wish there was an easier way to verify this than a 2 hour video but it is all there

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:35, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

  • We have departed the "Age of Information" and are entering the "Age of Disinformation." We must fight this battle now or forever suffer the inevitable outcome of global fascism.
  • No surprise. Any Wikipedia article on anything important is completely false at this point. They don’t even hide it. Pure propaganda.
  • It is also a really stupid idea to start out on articles like Donald Trump or Barack Obama as your first edit. Start out with some fairly obscure topic that might interest you like a cartoon character or a video game you might like to play before you get into the controversial articles. Even experienced Wikipedia editors would have a hard time getting more than a couple words added to some of those more controversial articles.
  • Yestersay I was making some edits but the obscene volume of "Russian Collusion" wrapped into so many pages is mind numbing. It's going to be a monumental scavenger hunt.
  • I would say it's full of the DISEASE of intellectualism and academia ... I guarantee you if these lgbt folks could have been left alone in a natural environment without media, academia, medical fields poking around in their brains, 90% of them would be normal people, 8% would have suffered some kind of mental illness, and 2% would be gay ... These people don't need academic explanation, they need to shut their mouths and go work in a coal mine or dig trenches. They'll find all the douchey enlightenment they could ever imagine but that doesn't appeal to them ... They'll never understand just how inferior they truly are.
  • I believe our fields of science, psychology, medicine, financial, have all been corrupted and have to be sifted through and re-examined ... These people have to burn and they must burn publicly.
  • They want you and I dead. Period. And we just smile along as we use there services.

Discussion at Donald Trump - what to put here ?

Looking for some WP:TRUMP guidance towards what belongs where....

I have started a discussion at Donald Trump Had any impact on Trumps life over what could guide "what fits" into the named article and determine what belongs to the Donald Trump article. Most items should go to other articles -- what properties could be looked at to determine if it goes here ?

If you’ve got other good ways to identify proper content for an article about a person, please add to the mix — all measures needed, the question recurs frequently.
