I think we can agree on that one. Me and MrX rarely agreed either but that does not mean I wanted to see them leave like this. I do hope you return. PackMecEng (talk) 19:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I endorse this comment. I always viewed MrX as someone I could approach for a better discussion no matter if we disagreed on the content. Mr Ernie (talk) 20:44, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's a shame. I was going to ask MrX to help write a refinement of the RfC guidelines to cover challenged closes, because we have terrible processes around this and it is probably the only area on Wikipedia where a single person can effectively mandate specific content. Guy (help! - typo?) 21:10, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
MrX, I do hope you return to the project, even if after you take time off. Your contributions have been superb, and greatly valued - certainly by me and many others. You know, I'm strongly reminded of a quote by John G. Roberts, Jr., talking about a difficult case:
"Any time Judge Garland disagrees, you know you're in a difficult area. And the function of his dissent, to make us focus on what we were deciding and to make sure that we felt we were doing the right thing, I think was well-served."
We the community - and ultimately our end-user, the reader - have always been well served by your contributions and wisdom. And it would be regrettable if this one messy disagreement between you and Guy — two users I respect very much — led you to part ways with the project permanently. Be well, and all best wishes. --Neutralitytalk 21:29, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Neutrality, Thank you. I like and respect MrX. I am mystified by the trajectory this has taken, and genuinely mortified that he has expressed a desire to leave, on which I hope he reconsiders. I hope people will take a look at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment § Process for challenging closes. Guy (help! - typo?) 21:37, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm sorry that you're taking a break because of this, it's unnecessary, except of course as merited holiday if stress was too high. It's unfortunate when what should be a hobby becomes responsibility, work and no play (and that of course happens because we care about the project). I hope to see you around again when you feel like it, —PaleoNeonate02:03, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is a sad turn of events, but here's to happiness in your break, and in your life, MrX. starship.paint (talk) 03:42, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A toast sandwich for you!

[edit]
Looks like I missed something a few months ago, and only just realized I hadn't seen your name around in a while.

Looking at the food or drink items in the WikiLove gadget like greeting cards, I'm thinking about the signification of the various options. Something sweet? Savory? Coffee/tea seem pretty generally friendly, I guess. I'll go with toast sandwich because I have no idea what that would mean to receive a toast sandwich. Kind of a "huh?" -- but maybe a "huh?" that draws your attention to Wikipedia long enough to come back after a [restful, hopefully] break. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:47, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, MrX!

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:37, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article Venner, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable railroad spur, not a "community" and never was. Two of the cited sources are GNIS (which is insufficient for notability); the fourth is the census bureau (which has no such entry), and reference 1 plainly says this was a rail spur. Therefore the article is inaccurate as well as a failure of WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.

The article Artesian, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location, sourced only to GNIS and a place-names gazetteer, neither of which is sufficient for notability. I can find several references to artesian wells in the Moxee area, [1] for example, but none of these refer to a "community" of Artesian. Post office does not count for notability, and the coordinates locate to empty farmland. Fails WP:GEOLAND.

Notice

The article Ashue, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable railroad point. The sources cited are insufficient for notability; the only one with any information is reference 4, which plainly states this was a "station". The 1950 USGS topo map shows Ashue as a siding with a couple of buildings in the surrounding area, but no "town": [2]. Several mentions of an Ashue Grange can be found in local newspapers, but all these mentions are passing, and grange halls were usually just meeting halls for local farms, not anything connected to a formal "community". Fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

The article Birchfield, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Another non-notable Yakima County rail point being falsely described as a community. Zero mentions could be found in local press or any books; only reference 4 has any information at all, which is basically copy-pasted into the article. Birchfield does show up on the 1936 Yakima East USGS topo map: [3], as an intersection near the tracks with a couple of buildings. There is now a Birchfield Road through the area; every hit I got for Birchfield was to the road. Fails WP:GEOLAND.

Notice

The article Blackrock, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. I can find several passing mentions to a "Blackrock district" or "Blackrock lands" in local press, mostly from the 1900s and 1910s, nothing more recent than 1939. But all of these are trivial mentions about the daily happenings of Joe Blow "of Blackrock district" as rural newspapers often used to publish. This does not ever seem to have been a "community", though, and no other information was found; the coordinates locate to empty grasslands, with a small "Black Rock Cemetery" nearby. This must have been a place significant to some people, but we have no record of it and therefore can't have an article; fails WP:GEOLAND because it wasn't legally-recognized and fails WP:GNG for lack of SIGCOV.

Non-notable railroad point sourced only to GNIS (reference 3 does not mention Emerald and is just a link to the US Census website). No coverage found of any type; 1965 USGS topo map does show Emerald as a cluster of a few buildings along the tracks: [4]. Today the railroad is gone and the site is just a couple of barns; not a community and never was. Fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

Notice

The article Liberty, Yakima County, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No information about this location found. Sources cited are GNIS (not sufficient for notability) and the Census Bureau, which does not have any entry for a Liberty in Yakima County. Appears on the 1965 Granger USGS topo map as a schoolhouse: [8], and also as a dot on the 1979 Toppenish map. Current sattelite view shows only a farming area with a couple of agricultural buildings. Fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.

The article Lichty, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Just a railroad siding, not a "community". All sources cited describe it as a rail point; having a post office is insufficient for notability as rural post offices were often not located in "communities" at all. Fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.

The article Midvale, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable railroad junction; only information found (other than the cited sources, which do not establish notability) is the word "Midvale" at a rail wye on the 1965 Granger USGS topo map: [9]. Complete failure of WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG; is not and never was a community.

East Selah and Pamona are same place and a thorough reading of the local paper shows no town with either of these names. East Selah was farming district. The article Nass, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable rail point, not a community. Only two mentions of this place could be found, both from 1914: [10], about the comings and goings of people loading potatoes onto trains at "Nass Siding", and [11], a similarly trivial mention of a couple of locals going about their lives. Complete failure of WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG. Furthermore, the census bureau listing in the references is a dishonest attempt to make this place appear better-documented than it is; there is no entry for Nass.

The article Pinecliff, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

An HOA is not a "populated, legally-recognized place"; furthermore, the fact that the author of this stub describes Pinecliff as 20 miles west of Ellensburg indicates they have no idea what they're talking about; this development is well over an hour from Ellensburg by car (due to terrain), and unless you can fly, the closest town is Yakima. First 2 sources are GNIS (not sufficient for notability) and the third has no such listing, apparently added to pad the reference list. Total failure of WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

The article Sawyer, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence found that this was ever a community. Apart from reference 4 (which describes it inconsistently as a town and a rail junction), only two mentions could be found: One line in Bullinger's Postal and Shippers Guide from 1922([12]), and one passing mention from 1956: "Mr. and Mrs. Basil Kimmel of Sawyer were dinner guests..." ([13]). This is about as trivial as coverage gets. Current satellite image shows a warehouse surrounded by farmland, with a Sawyer Fire Station nearby. Fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG. Not a notable place.

Notice

The article Rimrock, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Satellite shows a small cluster of houses at the base of the dam, the airport is in a different city despite being very nearby. Google says it's in the county. Local paper coverage runs from the 1890's to 1988. In 1899 it is a geological feature (https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-yakima-herald-sheep-roadway/141277727/) Fast forward to 1920, and it's become a popular camp site, many people go camping and hunting there. (example:https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sunnyside-times-camping-at-rimrock/141278267/). In 1925 the lake was created and afterward Fishing was added to the list of activities. (https://www.newspapers.com/article/grandview-herald-rimrock-lake/141278748/). I remember reading about elk being reintroduced, and sure enough rimrock is good for that too (1936: https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sunnyside-times-1936-not-a-town/141279168/) I goes on like that for decades, people picnicking, fishing etc all the way to modern times. There is no town there now and I've documented very thoroughly that there wasn't ever one. It's GNIS confabulating a geological feature into a town.

The article Wenas, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article says nothing is there now, the satellite says nothing is there now. Fortunately, the newspapers cover the area from the 1890's to the late 80's. There are many mentions of Wenas as a valley where people live, and lake where people recreate. There are no mentions of a town named Wenas to be found. GNIS likely confabulated the lake or the wildlife area into a town. Here is a sampling of the nature of the place.
