- A tag and assess drive will be starting later this month. Details are currently being finalized by the coordinators, and the drive will focus on reassessing all of the Start, Stub, and Unassessed articles. In addition, articles will be tagged with the proper task forces and improvement tags. Keep an eye out for details of the drive, as awards will be provided to editors who review even just a few articles for the drive.
- The featured criteria has been expanded to include alternative text for images within articles and lists. The purpose is to allow for replacement text for an image when it cannot be seen. Alt text differs from the caption, as it provides details of the image's appearance instead of technical details of the image. The {{Infobox film}} template has been modified to allow for the addition of alt text so any movie poster or video cover can be described. For examples of how to develop alternative text descriptions, as well as how to format images to include alt text, see the guideline page. In addition, examples can be seen at Fight Club and Little Miss Sunshine. WikiProject Films requests editors to add alt text to its current Good and Featured Articles, and if you are working to improve an article to either FA or GA status, it is encouraged to add alt text to the article's image(s).
- Erik started a discussion for input on how to approach studios to ask for free images to be used in film articles. If you are interested in helping out, know the best way to contact studios, or have experience asking for image permissions, please consider weighing in on the discussion.
- Our project currently has over 56,800 film-related articles, with 55,100 that have been assessed by our assessment department! Remember to always add the {{Film|class=}} template to a film article's talk page so the project can get a better idea of what work still needs to be done. Below is a table showing a breakdown of our articles by class.
- Are you looking to get involved with more areas of the project? Remember to keep an eye on the announcements page, which constantly updates current articles that need assistance or are attempting to be upgraded in class. There are a variety of task forces open for various genre and regional film topics. If working on backlogs interest you, there are multiple articles that you could use your help.
- Spotlight Update: Multiple films and film-related articles have reached GA and FA status in July 2009. In addition, one film was delisted as a GA.
