Agenda items

[edit]
  • Upcoming events for the Wikipedian at Large project
  • Round the table – what's everyone up to?

Outcomes

[edit]
  • Alexeyevitch(talk) - introduced himself and met others in the group.
  • Discussion of the Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park article, and what would be required to get it to Good Article status. Note that there is a New Zealand National parks WikiProject people can help with.
  • Perhaps we could approach DOC for assistance with the National Parks Wikiproject? They could supply photos and maybe some information resources. Mike to contact has contacted someone at Head Office who has been helpful with Wikipedia projects in the past.
  • Some of the National Parks articles could be eligible for Good Article status eventually; we could check the Good Article criteria, talk it over with @Marshelec:, and perhaps review articles we haven't been involved with. Instructions here.
  • The New Brighton article has been worked on by the Ara team and could be eligible for Good Article status eventually.
  • The Christchurch template has a good list of all the suburbs, which range widely in quality: Papanui is good (B class), Northcote much less so (Start). Perhaps we could make a table of all the suburbs, noting quality, number of photos etc, and compare it to the work @Prosperosity: has been doing with Auckland suburbs.
  • Future activities could be a walking tour using Ōtautahi Christchurch Architecture (2023 revised edition) (Q124612956) as a guide (Mike to approach WANZ about supplying copies).
  • The Open Christchurch launch is 21 March, and there is a series of open houses May 3–5 (Mike will be out of town but others are encouraged to attend and take photos for Wikipedia).
  • Tim Jones from Chch Art Gallery has previously supplied a list of all the works in the Gallery's permanent collection; this could go into Wikidata, if the CAG is deemed a "notable institution", as part of the Sum of all Paintings Wikiproject.
  • Christchurch Art Gallery edit-a-thon is on Saturday 18 May.
  • To approach: WORD Christchurch about running a session on writing of Wikipedia (DONE)
  • To approach: historian Elizabeth Cox about continuing work of women architects
  • Mike to join the Ara Wikpedians team meetup at some point
  • To send to @Aerohydro:: the paragraph of release text used in clearing a photo for WikiCommons. DONE: There are some sample requests for people to release their images here: Wikipedia:Example requests for permission and the tool for generating the paragraph of legalese they need to send in – you can generate this for them – is here: Commons:Email templates
  • To work out: how to use the Tūranga space so that we don't impose on the cafe. One option is to notify Tūranga when our meetings are, get on the board listing the day's events, then meet at the cafe followed by relocating to a meeting room or the Facilitation Space on the 4th floor. Mike to talk to Tūranga about this.
