Venue
[edit]- The Library is a public venue on the second floor of the Museum. The easiest way to get there are the elevators by the gallery entrance, South Entrance lobby. Go through the Secret World of Butterflies exhibit. No food or drink is allowed in the library unfortunately, but there's an excellent expresso bar, 1929, in the north lobby of the museum we can head down to later.
Future Meetups
[edit]Watchlist Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland (which is very low traffic) to be informed of future meetups in Auckland or sign up to the NZ Wikipedia mailing list to be kept informed. See Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board for discussion relevant to New Zealand Wikipedians.

[edit]Report
[edit]- Giantflightlessbirds talked about the NZ Wikipedian at Large project.
- Upcoming Auckland Museum project: a focus on one Pacific craft, improving its Wikipedia page using cleared photos of Museum objects, Museum topic pages documenting Pacific community knowledge, and possible recorded pronunciations and songs donated to Commons. There will likely be recruitment/training of young Pasifika Wikipedia editors, who will need support and mentoring from local editors.
- Kate Sheppard is under review for Featured Article status, ideally to be featured on the Wikipedia home page in Sept (Sept 8 1893 the date the bill was voted on, 18 Sept when it was enacted, and 28 November was the election in which women first voted). Everyone is encouraged to help with copyediting and improving this article.
- Parihaka was suggested as a candidate from improvement to FA, and to appear on this or next November 5th as either a Featured Article or a Featured Anniversary.
Discussion
[edit]- Macrons in NZ Wikipedia pages. A good discussion on current usage in media and academia, difference between spelling changes and pronunciation guides, the need for commentary from a linguist on NZ usage change, the best strategy to go forward (Wikipedia essay and start new request for comment).
Did you know?
[edit]- The tuatara tick Amblyomma sphenodonti happened to be DYK for that day, the work of Markanderson72 (talk · contribs), who has been working on several Critter and DYK pages recently.
