WP:ELECTCOM2024

During the 2012 Arbitration Committee Election request for comment, it was decided by consensus that a three-member Electoral Commission would be created to address issues arising during the Arbitration Committee elections. This decision was reaffirmed in subsequent years and the existence of the Commission is now part of the standard procedure for the annual elections. The Electoral Commission is reconstituted each year for purposes of that year's election.

The mandate of the Electoral Commission is to deal with any unforeseen problems that may arise in the Arbitration Committee election process, and to adjudicate any disputes during the election. While the Electoral Commission is not responsible for logistics of the election, the Commissioners should help ensure that preparations for the election—such as setting up the relevant pages, posting notices of the election in the appropriate places, and asking the Office to configure the SecurePoll voting interface—move forward in a timely fashion.

During the nomination period, editors wishing to volunteer as a Commissioner for the 2024 Arbitration Committee election should create a new subsection on this page.

Eligibility criteria: Per WP:ACERULES, any extended-confirmed editor is eligible to nominate themselves for the Electoral Commission if they:

(a) are over 18 years of age,
(b) meet the Wikimedia Foundation's access to nonpublic information policy, and
(c) are not blocked or banned from the Wikipedia or Wikipedia talk namespaces.

Nominations may be removed if the candidate does not satisfy all of the foregoing criteria. Commissioners and reserve members are not eligible for election to the Arbitration Committee during this year's election.

During the evaluation period, this RFC will gather comments and endorsements for candidates. All editors are encouraged to comment on the suitability of the volunteers for this role. Important: Endorsements/comments are not accepted until the evaluation period.

In general: the three candidates with the most endorsements will be selected as Commissioners. Additional candidates exceeding 50% of the endorsements of the third-place candidate will be selected as reserve Commissioners, to be called upon if one or more of the Commissioners are unable to serve. Variances and exceptions, including ties, will be resolved by the RFC closer using the standard consensus-building process.^{(last updated from 2024 RfC)}

I’m Dr. Vulpes and this is my second time running for the electoral commission, I served as a second reserve member in 2021. I will openly admit I didn't do much in that role as the second back up. I've been an active editor for about three years and a sporadic IP editor for about a decade before I made my account. I've been part of NPP for the last couple of years and am a semi-active coordinator there. I own mistakes I make and work to improve myself and my editing everyday. I also do my best to be respectful and purposeful in my interactions here, I know that online interactions can lead to people missing context or intent. Because of this try my best to make sure that everyone in conversations feels respected, and heard. I've taken a few workshops on conflict resolution as part of my job and I try to bring those skills into discussion at AfC, AfD, and RM. I have signed the NDA and take privacy here seriously. The only project this month that is taking up any of my time is the Women in Green drive, but I don't see that preventing me from doing any of the duties of the electoral commission. Hi. I'm Barkeep49. I am running because I care a lot about ArbCom, as shown during the work I did after twice been elected to it. While I'm not currently in a position to serve on the committee, my passion for the important work ArbCom does continues and so I hope to be able to help the community with the process of electing new arbitrators. Besides my experience as an arb, I currently hold Checkuser and Oversight and am a member of the U4C (all of which require me to be a current signatory to the ANPDP). I hope to bring a nice mix of both experience (in making calm, thoughtful, balanced decisions) and fresh perspective (never been an election commissioner) to the committee. While I don't have any substantive concerns about Barkeep49, I don't like the look of a recent arbiter serving on the commission. It definitely creates the appearance of a conflict of interest in my mind. Given that there are plenty of other qualified applicants, I think it might be better for someone else to serve this time. I do want to emphasize that I have no concerns that Barkeep49 would be actually unfair or do a poor job in other ways, but I think that others would also do just as good a job, given the generally limited role of the commission. I was on electcom last year. We didn't have much to do, which is a good thing, and I'm willing to do that again. I'm closing in on 20 years on enwiki. I'm an admin and checkuser, and currently serving on the Ombuds Commission. I'm a firm believer that we need to be bringing new people up into the leadership ranks so while I'm available if people want me, I also encourage everybody to give serious consideration to less experienced candidates as well. Good day, I am Garsh2. I am not normally involved in ARBCOM matters, and this places me in a prime position to be an election commissioner as I am as close to a neutral candidate as possible. My lack of other commitments (projects, high-level permissions, etc) will grant me the time to carry out the responsibilities of this commission. While unexperienced in this type of role, my work at AFC, NPP, and AfD will demonstrate that I am active and competent enough to learn and fulfill it. Although a little blunt at times, I work well with other editors. I take responsibility for mistakes and strive to not repeat them. I hope to be given the opportunity to serve and gain experience as an election commissioner while bringing a new set of eyes and ears to the table.

I have previously expressed the opinion that only administrators or functionaries should serve on the election commission. I stand by this view, but we have only three admin candidates, and I believe we need a reserve commissioner. So I'm endorsing one I believe should be an admin.
