On 15 January 2021, Wikipedia celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding in 2001. The English edition has grown to include more than 6 million articles—all written collaboratively by volunteers—and reached its billionth edit on 13 January 2021.

Wikipedia started as an ambitious idea to create a free encyclopedia, written by volunteers, for everyone in the world. It seemed impossible. Over 20 years, Wikipedia has become the largest collection of open knowledge in history. How did it happen? (2 min 18 s)

This is extremely, very, very very late. We are closer to the 21st than the 20th. But still, it's here, so here I go (excuse, wikibreak, excuse etc).... Guess I start by noting I wanted to do this while it was still the year of said celebration. I've had more than enough time to know what to write, but I'm still struggling. Wow. What a journey. What a time to see it. Yet here we still are. Amazing. Thanks to everyone who made this possible (not just the moment but everything altogether). Funny enough this is a milestone for me too. I abandoned a long wikibreak, and to be honest i could go on and on and on and on. Happy belated in arrears, WP. (More here.) Ema--or (talk) 22:56, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
