Azeri election article

[edit]

I've fixed it for you on the article. The problem was that you had left some broken links in it (you used "]" rather than "]]" in several places, including [[Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front Party|AXC] and [[Sabir Rustamkhanli]). When infoboxes have broken links in them, they display as above.

Also, there were some errors in the above (the MDHP did not receive 0.88% of the vote). I have corrected these too. Cheers, Number 57 10:47, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Meta templates

[edit]

Just to let you know, you do not need to link or add colours to all parties. If (for example) {{Cook Islands Party/meta/shortname}} and {{Cook Islands Party/meta/color}} both exist, you can just enter the name "Cook Islands Party" in the party section and it automatically creates a shortened link and colour. See this edit, which removes them. Also, you got the colour for the Democratic Party wrong! Number 57 16:15, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, you can create new meta templates if the parties you're trying to add to infoboxes don't have them. However, this is only advisable if a party contested multiple elections, as otherwise it's just a bit of a waste of time. Cheers, Number 57 16:37, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How can you check if the party has one of those templates? Thanks.

Alextheconservative (talk) 16:51, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Type the party name then "/meta" (as per the link above) into the search bar, and any templates that exist should appear listed. Number 57 17:50, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. Alextheconservative (talk) 18:04, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2005 Caymanian general election, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page United Democratic Party (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Infoboxes

[edit]

Thanks for all your work on this. Just a couple of other tips:

  • For two-round presidential elections, there is general agreement that only the second round result should be shown (see e.g. 2017 French presidential election). You might find a few articles where that has been ignored, so feel free to fix them.
  • {{Infobox legislative election}} is a relatively new infobox, which was developed as the old {{Infobox election}} wasn't good at handling multi-party parliamentary elections. Some articles have the old infobox because it was the only one available at the time, so if you are adding infoboxes to a series of articles that don't have them, you're also welcome to convert the original infoboxes to the newer style to maintain consistency throughout the article series.

Cheers, Number 57 16:07, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for following along behind me to correct any mistakes I made! Just to clarify, the {{Infobox legislative election}} should be used for legislative and parliamentary elections, while {{Infobox election}} should be used for presidential and party elections? Thanks for your help. Alextheconservative (talk) 16:17, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are no definitive rules, but IMO, ideally yes. And no problem at all. Cheers, Number 57 17:37, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Alextheconservative (talk) 17:49, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Infobox legislative election cannot embed inside itself. However, one solution is to use the format I added to your sandbox - this has been used on Belgian and Colombian elections. Are you ok with this? Cheers, Number 57 13:15, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant- that looks better than the original way I was trying to do it! Thanks for your help, Alextheconservative (talk) 13:49, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Another tip – if you're struggling to find the leaders of parties from past elections, electionguide.org often has many of them (their database goes back to 1998). I managed to fill in about half the blanks on 2002 Moroccan general election from their website. Cheers, Number 57 14:46, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I'll have a look at the other elections. Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 15:46, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To add separate dates for next/previous presidential/parliamentary elections, you add the next/previous bits into the relevant sections (like this). Cheers, Number 57 10:42, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you. Alextheconservative (talk) 10:53, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited the infobox code to allow you to go up to 35 parties. Cheers, Number 57 08:31, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Thanks for your help, Alextheconservative (talk) 08:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I noticed that didn't work on 1990 Brazilian legislative election, but I have just fixed a related template, that means all 35 rows can be used now. Cheers, Number 57 15:36, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great. That should come in handy in later articles too! Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 16:35, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I notice you've been sorting these infoboxes by seats. Usually we sort by percentages (to match results tables). Cheers, Number 57 16:40, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll start doing it that way now. Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 17:23, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of House members

[edit]

I admire your adding images for House members. Larger delegation states, such as Texas, California, etc. may become unwieldy with the images, however. What do you think? —GoldRingChip 19:25, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other lists for individual congressional districts, like this, have pictures for the delegates. I saw the page for Wyoming, another at-large district, and did the same for Vermont. Alextheconservative (talk) 19:45, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the list of the individual districts do have the images. But that single congressional district you cite as an example has only 24 members, whereas List of United States Representatives from Texas has 283, List of United States Representatives from California has 381, and List of United States Representatives from New York has 1,458. That's a lot of images which may become cumbersome. —GoldRingChip 20:43, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure; I just thought the way it was laid out on the Wyoming page was the standard. Alextheconservative (talk) 07:23, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's the standard for the Districts, not for the lists of All reps. —GoldRingChip 16:25, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
However, now that I look at it, it's also the standard for the lists of all senators. It's just the Reps lists that don't have them. I guess it's because those reps lists are so long already. —GoldRingChip 16:26, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Should I remove the images then or keep them? Alextheconservative (talk) 18:17, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, do you have any idea for the sources of the Presidential election results in each of the districts? Alextheconservative (talk) 18:09, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry. —GoldRingChip 18:47, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Idaho Territory's at-large congressional district

[edit]

Please see this edit (and perhaps others like it). Instead of 1866 and 1867 United States House of Representatives elections#Idaho Territory, it should be 1866 United States House of Representatives election in Idaho Territory. Red links are OK for direct election links. Can you please change the links in this and other articles you're editing? —GoldRingChip 13:20, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK, will do. I wasn't aware that red links were OK. Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 13:58, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes… someday someone (possibly me!) will make the article or at least the redirect back to 1866 and 1867 United States House of Representatives elections, but it will be useful for later links to come back to it. —GoldRingChip 15:09, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, in some cases, when there is only a single election, the correct link would be XXXX United States House of Representatives election, not elections. That includes at-large districts or general ticket elections. I've changed it here, so you can see what I mean. —GoldRingChip 15:09, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Would this be the same for the lists of representatives? Alextheconservative (talk) 17:02, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Which? Yes to my first point that red links are ok. Yes to my second point that sometimes there is a single election. —GoldRingChip 18:25, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the first point. Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 19:14, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. And on the articles "List of United States Representatives from…" we only list the electoral history of how that member came into and out of office, but don't list all the re-elections (as we would with the congressional district articles). That also helps keep those articles from getting too bulky. —GoldRingChip 19:32, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll start doing that. Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 19:47, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Walsall local election results

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you submitted the overall results table on 2021 Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council election. Do you have a source for those figures for total votes/percentage changes (which I think are all changes since 2016), or did you calculate them yourself? I can't find them listed on Walsall Council's website. (I'm also not sure if figures on turnout percentage, spoiled ballots, etc are available anywhere.)

I noticed that the figures for the total seats changes in your table are different from those on the council results page:

  • Council page [1] says CON 37 (+5)
  • Your table says CON 32 (+5)

I would add that walsall.gov.uk page as a reference for the table - except that it only includes the seat numbers, so can't be used as a source for the percentage changes. Do you know of a source that covers all the figures in the table? --Nick RTalk 12:46, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick R: Hi, I noticed on other pages that they were comparing the results to 2019, so that's what I did. As for the CON 32, that was my mistake; I was typing the figures in excel, and copied over the before seats rather than after. I used this for the seats after, and this for the seats before (linked to on the Walsall council website). Thanks, Alextheconservative (talk) 12:58, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition election results, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Parish council elections

[edit]

Just an FYI (mostly to potentially stop you wasting your time), as far as I recall, every time a parish council election article has gone to AfD, it has resulted in deletion. [edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:59, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Milton Keynes City Council bye-elections

[edit]

I have no objection in principle to including the bye-elections provided you commit to keeping it maintained. But you must cite WP:RSs: your personal (I assume?) website at andrewteale.me.uk is not acceptable. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 18:18, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to update the local elections for the articles as I have been for the past 2 years. However, I can assure you I am not the Andrew Teale who owns the website. Mr Teale runs the Local Elections Archive Project, an essential tool given that most of the original returns are difficult if not impossible to find on council websites. Alextheconservative (talk) 22:45, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, my apologies for confusing Alex and Andrew. I will not revert your change again. But FYI, I have opened an informal RFC at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom#andrewteale.me.uk to ask whether it is a wp:reliable source or does it fall foul of WP:Self published source. You may wish to contribute. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 14:46, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join New pages patrol

[edit]

Hello Alextheconservative!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hi Alextheconservative, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 10:17, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! Alextheconservative (talk) 10:22, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

August 2024 Edit Summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello Alextheconservative. I'm Quaerens-veritatem.Please provide a summary of every edit you make. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history. Summaries help other editors by (a) providing a reason for the edit, (b) saving the time to open up the edit to find out what it's all about, and (c) providing information about the edit on diff pages and lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists). Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit and a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. As a reminder: When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

If the edit is minor, the "This is a minor edit" box can be checked. See, Help:Minor_edit. A good rule of thumb is that only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content may be flagged as minor edits.

Many who are ignorant of the Wikipedia policy on edit summaries fail to add them. Some ignore this basic brief task; however, failure seems arrogant and inconsiderate specially since summaries are so easy to add. According to Wikipedia's consensus policy, all edits should be explained —either by clear edit summaries, or by discussion on the associated talk page. Thank you for your consideration. Milton Keynes City Council election results map

[edit]

Would you have a look at the hat note I added to Milton Keynes City Council elections#Borough result maps to check that I have interpreted correctly? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 20:52, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JMF the hat note looks good. I've added a clarification that, pre-2014, some wards did not have elections each time. Alextheconservative (talk) 16:06, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thanks. It took me a while to make sense of it - why was Olney (2 CON, 1 LAB) not grey. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 23:23, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
