HIV
I started to edit HIV before I saw {{in use}}
. So, I will hold off until you're done.
Please be aware that <b />
is invalid markup; also, the entire caption where you inserted it displays as one paragraph, so why not unwrap the paragraph and do it this way (colon inserted)
[[image:HIV Membrane fusion panel.svg|thumb|400px|'''Mechanism of viral entry''': '''1.''' Initial interaction between gp120 and CD4. '''2.''' Conformational change in gp120 allows for secondary interaction with CCR5. '''3.''' The distal tips of gp41 are inserted into the cellular membrane. '''4.''' gp41 undergoes significant conformational change; folding in half and forming coiled-coils. This process pulls the viral and cellular membranes together, fusing them.]]
As long as you're doing a big overhaul, I have another suggestion:
- A negative result rules out HIV exposure, while a positive one must be followed by an HIV-1/2 antibody differentiation immunoassay to detect which is present.
I don't know what this means, but I think it means,
- A negative result rules out HIV exposure, while a positive one must be followed by an HIV-1/2 antibody differentiation immunoassay to detect which antibodies are present.

- Hi, I have finished editing HIV. Just added some new information, updated some statistics and added information about treatment and cure. I am, however, finished now.
- I'm not so sure about
<b />
and the invalid markup as I did not add that and am not well versed in images on Wikipedia. - You can go ahead and edit the article. Your suggestion is noted and is now added.
- Thanks for your patience Anomalocaris

Confirmation's in progress
Dear Waddie96, thank you for your message but I think you're not right beause I have not committed any copy violations because first I have indicated the sources from its official website which can be seen in the references so it was not copied or pasted word by word and on the other side the Hungarian Historical Society asked me for creating wikipedia article in English as well so it allowed me to use the text of the Hungarian Historical Society freely. I have indicated on its talk page that the confirmation's in progress. The text in the article in question is not unlisenced, and I am sending the permission To: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org to prove this claim.Borgatya (talk) 19:06, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Borgatya: Hi, the selected publications were copy/pasted from http://www.tortenelmitarsulat.hu/egyeb/pdf/kiadvanyok.pdf in Hungarian, though it appears the .pdf that had the copyrighted material is now inaccessible and I have tried to {{wayback}} to no avail. My request was that if you could please edit this text to avoid using copy/pasted data from the above-mentioned website and translate the Hungarian text to English as this is an English article. If you do not do this, I will have to WP:AGF revert as per WP:COPYVIO and you will have to add your publications with Hungarian text at Magyar_Történelmi_Társulat. We at Wikipedia would love it though if you could include these publications without copyright material in English on the page Hungarian_Historical_Society. Waddie96 (talk) 20:56, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Borgatya: Please correct the copy vio as per WP:COPYVIO on Hungarian_Historical_Society. During this time please keep the {{copypaste}} notice up. Ping me when you have done so so I can make a decision whether the copyright violation should be enforced or retracted. Thank you and kind regards. Waddie96 (talk) 21:22, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
I am sorry if you cannot understand that I have not committed copyviolation because it is only a publication list whose titles can be translated but it is not a problem, a mistake if any publication lists are not translated into English and these publication lists are of course similar to the main source so I think you misunderstand the copyviolaton rule because ONLY TEXTS WORD BY WORD can cause copyviolation, but pasting a similar list cannot but I DO NOT want to quarrel with you and I delate all the publacation lists and I only mention the types of publications that were published in the Society and if the permission had accepted, I will add this list to article I hope you accept my decision and I delate the copyvio template.Borgatya (talk) 23:56, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Waddie96, I wanted to let you know that I have just removed the CSD A7. Being a player in a first division national football club is sufficient claim of significance. The article may be tagged for improvement of references. Failing that and in the case of failing notability, this may have to go the AfD route. If you have any questions, pls let me know. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 07:52, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

Copypatrol
Hi Waddie96 and thank you for your interest in copyright cleanup. I was looking at some of the reports you assessed at Copypatrol, and noticed that the edit to Scots School Albury that you marked as "no action needed" contains material copied from the here and here. The source listed at CopyPatrol may not be the actual source of the prose. In this case it was obvious, at least to me ("The sense of community in our boarding houses underpins the supportive environment"), that the material was copied from the school website. I have cleaned the article and alerted the editors as to our copyright requirements. (The two IPs are likely the same person though)
Another example is N-Butanol where you state that the material was copied from another Wikipedia article but you don't state which one, and I don't see where you alerted the person who copied the content that attribution is required or where you added the attribution yourself. Please see WP:copying within Wikipedia for more information on this topic. I have added the required attribution and alerted the editor as to how to do it properly in the future.
Here's another problem: you marked Understanding Khiamniungan (now located at Draft:Understanding Khiamniungan) as "no action needed" when there's a large copyright violation from http://tuensang.nic.in/khiamniungan.html. I will check your remaining assessments when I get back from the gym. Please don't do any more of this work until you have a lot more experience on Wikipedia. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:35, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Diannaa: Will do. Waddie96 (talk) 06:36, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Diannaa: With regards to, N-Butanol, the user renamed the page from Butanol to N-Butanol hence the data from the page was flagged as copyright. The copyright material was actually copied from Butanol. Apologies I was trying my best, I'm new at this and appreciate someone checking my work. I'm using Twinkle but am interested in other programs and ways that'll make my copyright checking more accurate. Maybe you could help me? I don't want to feel as though my work isn't valued albeit I made a few mistakes. Your assistance would be appreciated. Waddie96 (talk) 06:46, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- I would rather you didn't work on copyright cleanup at all until you have a lot more experience, as it took me longer to check and repair your work than it would have to do it myself. Your error rate is extremely high. In addition to those already mentioned, I found copyvio on Joe Ellis, which you have marked as "no action needed"; Sarbanes–Oxley Act and Karachi Development Authority, where some of the copyvio had been removed but not all; on Muhajir people you removed content but there was actually no copyright violation (the material was from an old version of the same Wikipedia page); and I found four instances where you'd added a template to the user talk page but had not signed it, which would be awkward for a new user, as the template suggests contacting you if they have any questions. How would they know who you are if you have not told them? Where you did remove copyvio, you didn't mention in your edit summary where the material was copied from, and in all instances where you found violations you missed an important step: requesting revision deletion of the copyvio material. So for these reasons I recommend that you not work in any administrative areas at this time. Please find another way to contribute. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:40, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
my first edit List of Royalty by Net Worth- please help
Hi Waddie96 - i'm just responding to your message that my edits have been undone because of 'verifiability' issues. However, the reason for the edits is because the whole article has verifiability issues (it's based on one 8 year old article in Forbes that has no sources itself). There is a more recent forbes article specifically about Arab billionaires so I propose partly 'correcting' the list at least using this as a source https://www.forbesmiddleeast.com/en/list/the-worlds-richest-arabs-2016/. This would mean that Ahmed Bin Saeed would be deleted as he's no longer on the rich list, Bin Saud would be deleted as not on the list as he's passed away, I would add the 2 new entries from the newer list etcZero1zero2 (talk) 08:38, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[1]

Welcome to Wikipedia from the Medicine WikiProject!
Welcome to Wikipedia from WikiProject Medicine (also known as WPMED).
We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:
- Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
- Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically require recent secondary sources to support information; their application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
- The Wikipedia community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss them on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.
Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Carl Fredrik talk 21:29, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hey, will you be attending Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town the 18th-22nd July? There may be scholarships to cover the fee. Best, Carl Fredrik talk 21:32, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- @CFCF: Hey! I would love to but wasn't aware of the scholarships, do you have more info on this? And thanks for the welcome by the way! Regards, Waddie96 (talk) 21:36, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- The official deadline was the 22nd of January, but seeing as you are so close there may be other grants, especially if you have accommodation in Cape Town. The fees aren't published yet, so I can't give any more info right now. But if you're interested feel free to remind me in mid April. Otherwise, you're very welcome to join the WikiProject. Rollback granted
Hi Waddie96. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 07:34, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Prod
Please read WP:PROD. Specifically "If anybody objects to the deletion (usually by removing the proposed deletion/dated tag—see full instructions below), the proposal is aborted and may not be re-proposed." Please don't re-insert PROD templates. Polyamorph (talk) 15:54, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Polyamorph: Read and understood. Thanks, Waddie96 (talk) 16:05, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Rollback
Hi, an experienced rollback user here.
I understand that today you were granted Rollback rights. On the same day I've already noticed a few of your reverts of edits that aren't considered vandalism. Here just because this is an unreferenced statement doesn't mean the edit is vandalism (On a side note, also be wary that rollback reverts all of the user's edits in one go, and that includes Huggle). Here the editor was copyediting. Please read WP:VANDNOT for more information about what types of edits are not considered vandalism. Minima© (talk) 16:01, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Minimac: Yes, sorry I had never seen those edits before. I had to enable the feature that delays button presses between edits (I set it to 1 second) as I noticed when I pressed 'R', it asked me if I want to revert a Userspace page, only to realise that wasn't the initial revert. Feature is enabled and won't happen again. Thanks for the concern, Waddie96 (talk) 16:07, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi. I have declined your CSD A7 nomination of this article as the criteria only applies to real people, animals, organisations, bands, web content and events - not food. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:42, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- In fact, having read the other discussions, I'm going to go further - stop all maintenance activities. That means no rollback, no Huggle, no anti-vandalism, no copyright cleanup - that means article writing or copyediting. You seem to be making too many mistakes and seem to be lacking the appropriate empathy for somebody working in the "behind the scenes" activities. I notice Diannaa has already told you this, but I don't think there's any need to do anything else at this stage, just to warn you that you need to up your game a bit. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:46, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- Noted, I will resume maintenace activities when I have gained enough experience in article writing and copyediting. Best, Waddie96 (talk) 19:36, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

A message from Psb777 - domestic servant
Possibly what you say is regional. In Jhb and Kimberley it was "servant". "Domestic" doesn't mean anything other "pertaining to the home". Even then: This is an int'l encyclopedia. If what you said is true we must write so that it is understood by everyone. Finally: A google search for ' "south africa" "servants quarters" ' return 800,000 hits. A Google seafch for ' "South Africa" "domestic quarters" ' returns 200,000.
Paul Beardsell (talk) 18:23, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Psb777: I understand, and as per Wikipedia policy I accept the change back to your original wording :). I was not around for the era and hence don't know if the term was servant or domestic but since in post-Apartheid era we say domestic, as servant and maid have negative conitations, I thought it might be more appropriate to say domestic. Servant to me implies working without wage, but I guess, as per even servant, that is not the case. Thanks! -- Waddie96 (talk) 18:29, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. [1] 192.160.216.52 (talk) 12:49, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- Note: This user is believed to be a sockpuppet of an ongoing SPI at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Unscintillating. After my comment on the SPI page of my interaction with him/her, they posted on ANI for assistance in closing the investigation against him and for some reason felt the need to say that there is a currently an discussion about me. This discussion was swiftly deleted so I have not even read it. For transparency purposes I will leave this unnecessary ANI notice up. -- Waddie96 (talk) 16:26, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- It's required to notify everyone mentioned in an ANI discussion. Essentially you're criticizing me for following the rules. Also, I'm not "believed to be a sockpuppet of an ongoing SPI," whatever that means. Your continuing to call me a sockpuppet when no one has concluded that I am one is a personal attack. 192.160.216.52 (talk) 16:49, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
A message from Prakash.goath
Prakash.goath (talk) 15:38, 12 April 2018 (UTC) Okay, Waddie, Please let me know what i have to do now?
Will i be able to get my content?
Or I have to create a new content for Global Value Investment Corp. page?
- @Prakash.goath: since the content was a WP:COPYVIO the page was deleted and erased as it cannot be on Wikipedia. Hence, you will have to create new content for Global Value Investment Corp. However, I suggest waiting for a response on AfC as you cannot create the article yourself due to your COI. -- Waddie96 (talk) 16:05, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Leisa Goodman 1998.png
Thanks for uploading File:Leisa Goodman 1998.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 14:46, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Gunfire locator, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Line-of-sight (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hello
I did not see any of your posts on my talk page until now. I never got any notifications about it. I'll respond to your complaints in corresponding order.
1. I put Middle Eastern there because some white South Africans (Lebanese Christians, Egyptians, Turks, etc) are not European. I assumed the source had mentioned that, but I was wrong. I'll see if I can find another one. 2. The expulsion of Jews from West Bank/J+S, and the Jordanian origins of the name West Bank are not in any way, shape, or form "POV". They are easily verifiable facts. I will add sources later. 3. Iranians are not listed as Asian under any official government designation, so they don't belong under the Asian bracket. You are free to challenge me on the talk page, but please don't revert without explaining yourself first. 4. See number 3.

- You have the exact same editing pattern as User:2601:84:4502:61EA:E062:C8A6:C400:6B48. On Wikipedia, we require a WP:RS when changes are made, they cannot be WP:POV. Please consider creating an account if you wish to edit further.Waddie96 (talk) 12:18, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- My IP does that sometimes. I do not wish to create an account, however. Editing from an IP means I cannot edit certain articles (which are specified by locks), but I am at liberty to edit everything else.2601:84:4502:61EA:456F:E528:DD7:CF11 (talk) 12:22, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Re: your revert on Arab actors
I *did* give an explanation. See here.
Whether or not you *agree* with the explanation provided is another story. You, on the other hand, simply reverted with no explanation. You should have either gone to the talk page, or at least given a reason for your revert. You also asked me to provide a source in the edit summary, but that is impossible. You can't put sources in the edit summary. 2601:84:4502:61EA:456F:E528:DD7:CF11 (talk) 12:20, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2018).
- After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
- Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
- The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.

Welcome
Welcome to Wikipedia! We have compiled some guidance for new healthcare editors:
- Please keep the mission of Wikipedia in mind. We provide the public with accepted knowledge, working in a community.
- We do that by finding high quality secondary sources and summarizing what they say, giving WP:WEIGHT as they do. Please do not try to build content by synthesizing content based on primary sources.
- Please use high-quality, recent, secondary sources for medical content (see WP:MEDRS; for the difference between primary and secondary sources, see the WP:MEDDEF section.) High-quality sources include review articles (which are not the same as peer-reviewed), position statements from nationally and internationally recognized bodies (like CDC, WHO, FDA), and major medical textbooks. Lower-quality sources are typically removed. Please beware of predatory publishers – check the publishers of articles (especially open source articles) at Beall's list.
- The ordering of sections typically follows the instructions at WP:MEDMOS. The section above the table of contents is called the WP:LEAD. It summarizes the body. Do not add anything to the lead that is not in the body. Style is covered in MEDMOS as well; we avoid the word "patient" for example.
- We don't use terms like "currently", "recently," "now", or "today". See WP:RELTIME.
- More generally see WP:MEDHOW, which gives great tips for editing about health -- for example, it provides a way to format citations quickly and easily
- Citation details are important:
- Be sure cite the PMID for journal articles and ISBN for books
- Please include page numbers when referencing a book or long journal article, and please format citations consistently within an article.
- Do not use URLs from your university library that have "proxy" in them: the rest of the world cannot see them.
- Reference tags generally go after punctuation, not before; there is no preceding space.
- We use very few capital letters (see WP:MOSCAPS) and very little bolding. Only the first word of a heading is usually capitalized.
- Common terms are not usually wikilinked; nor are years, dates, or names of countries and major cities. Avoid overlinking!\
- Never copy and paste from sources; we run detection software on new edits.
- Talk to us! Wikipedia works by collaboration at articles and user talkpages.
Once again, welcome, and thank you for joining us! Please share these guidelines with other new editors.

- Amorymeltzer • Mr. Stradivarius • MusikAnimal • MSGJ • TheDJ • Xaosflux
- Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour.
- Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says
Deprecated. Use ... instead
. An example isarticle_text
which is nowpage_title
. - Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is
page_age
.
- The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.

ANI: abuse of Rollback
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 17:04, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- While I think the ANI thread was premature, and have closed it, I just want to note here that the rollbacks you did at Parasite were not a great use of rollback. In particular, once GhostofDanGurney modified it; but even the IP’s original edit seems to have been in good faith. Remember rollback is not for reverting bad edits, it’s for reverting bad-faith edits. An undo with a short edit summary would have been more appropriate. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:50, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

You undid a revision I made to the Genetic Counseling page and suggested a post about it on the Talk page. I had previously posted on the Talk page to address the fact that this section does not address attitudes toward genetic counseling. It briefly and poorly addresses attitudes toward a very slim area of genetic testing, which is entirely different. Please read the talk page before telling someone to use it. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Genetic_counseling Demonllamarachel (talk) 18:07, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Ways to improve Jan Voerman
Hi, I'm Domdeparis. Waddie96, thanks for creating Jan Voerman!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. if you are copying an article from another wiki please add the sources from the other project, it doesn't matter if they are not in English. Please do not create unsourced articles. You can also link to the other article in the languages section on the left
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.
Dom from Paris (talk) 12:21, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Domdeparis: The Dutch article does not have any references either, only external links, which I have now added to the article. The article is linked on the languages section, not sure if I did that or you did, but let me know how to do that so I know for future reference. Best, Waddie96 (talk) 12:35, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- The external links could very easily be used as sources with in-line citations as almost all the information in the article is mentioned in them. There is no reason to think that the museum or the Dutch ministry of culture sites are not reliable and could not be used as at least primary sources for the information. --Dom from Paris (talk) 12:54, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- DoneWaddie96 (talk) 12:56, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Good job! The linking I did, and it's actually easier than it seems, or at least the first time you do it when there are no other links yet. You just have to click on the pencil with add links under the languages menu on the far left of the page. Then you type the code for the language; nl for Dutch wiki fr for French wiki etc and in the next box you type in the name of the article, as you type it will make suggestions and when you see the article you want you click on it and then click on the button "Link with page". It gets more complicated if there is already at least 1 link. Then the pen becomes "edit links" and you have to find the section in the page that opens up a sort of box entitled "Wikipedia" and click on "edit" but after that it's the same thing you search for the language and the article and then click on "publish". Hope this helps. --Dom from Paris (talk) 14:33, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.

Did you know?
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has wrapped up most of their work on the 2017 wikitext editor and the visual diff tool. The team has begun investigating the needs of editors who use mobile devices. Their work board is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are fixing bugs and improving mobile editing.
Recent changes
- The Editing team has published an initial report about mobile editing.
- The Editing team has begun a design study of visual editing on the mobile website. New editors have trouble doing basic tasks on a smartphone, such as adding links to Wikipedia articles. You can read the report.
- The Reading team is working on a separate mobile-based contributions project.
- The 2006 wikitext editor is no longer supported. If you used that toolbar, then you will no longer see any toolbar. You may choose another editing tool in your editing preferences, local gadgets, or beta features.
- The Editing team described the history and status of VisualEditor in this recorded public presentation (starting at 29 minutes, 30 seconds).
- The Language team released a new version of Content Translation (CX2) last month, on International Translation Day. It integrates the visual editor to support templates, tables, and images. It also produces better wikitext when the translated article is published. [21]
Let's work together
- The Editing team wants to improve visual editing on the mobile website. Please read their ideas and tell the team what you think would help editors who use the mobile site.
- The Community Wishlist Survey begins next week.
- If you aren't reading this in your preferred language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact us directly. We will notify you when the next issue is ready for translation. Thank you!

- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
- A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
- The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. Recent changes
- You can now use TemplateWizard to edit templates. This works only with the 2010 wikitext editor and not in the visual editor or the 2017 wikitext editor. If you click on you can enter the information in a pop-up. You can turn on TemplateWizard in your beta feature preferences. [22]
Changes later this week
- You can choose to see edit conflicts in a two-column view. This is a beta feature. You can find it in your preferences. The interface for the two-column edit conflict will change. You can read more.
- When you edit with the visual editor you can use the "Automatic" citation tab. This helps you generate citations. You will now be able to write plain text citations or the title of a journal article or a book in this tab. This will search the Crossref and WorldCat databases and add the top result. [23]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 November. It will be on all wikis from 8 November (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 7 November at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Recent changes
- Some old mobile browsers can use the watchlist again. This has not worked for a while. These browsers are called grade C browsers. This helps for example Windows Phone 8.1 with Internet Explorer and Lumia 535 with Windows 10. [24]
Problems
- You can choose to see edit conflicts in a two-column view. This is a beta feature. You can find it in your preferences. Users who use this view saw the edit conflict resolution page when they wanted to see a preview. This has been fixed. [25][26][27]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 November. It will be on all wikis from 15 November (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 14 November at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- You can use the content translation tool to translate articles. The developers are working on a new version. One of the changes will be a maintenance category. Articles where users add a lot of text from machine translation without changing it will be in that category. This is so the community can review it. The users will also have been warned before they publish the article that it has a lot of unchanged text from machine translations. [28]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Waddie96. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can vote on proposals in the Community Wishlist Survey. The survey decides what the Community Tech team will work on. You can vote until 30 November.
- There is an A/B test for
sameAs
data. This is to make it easier to find the right information with a search engine. This changes the metadata for a wiki page. It doesn't change how the page looks. [29]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 21 November at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The Wikimedia wikis use templates to show readers there are problems with the content on some pages. For example if there are no sources or the page needs to be rewritten. The mobile website will soon show more information when you use these templates. Some templates may need to be updated. [30]
- The Education Program extension was removed from all Wikimedia projects. The database tables used by the extension will be archived. This will happen in a month. If you want the information on your wiki you should move it to a normal wiki page. [31]

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- On wikis with translatable pages you could create a mess when you moved a page that had translatable subpages. A subpage is when you use
/
to create a new page:/wiki/Page/Subpage
. The subpages would be moved but not the translations. The subpages are no longer automatically be moved. This is to make it safer to move pages. [32]
Changes later this week
- The advanced search interface will be available by default on all Wikimedia wikis. It makes it easier to use some of the special search functions that most editors don't know exist. It's already active on German, Farsi, Arabic and Hungarian Wikipedia. [33]
- Special:UnusedCategories show empty categories with no files or other categories. You can soon choose to not show soft redirect categories or some maintenance categories there. You can do this with the magic word
__EXPECTUNUSEDCATEGORY__
. [34] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 November. It will be on all wikis from 29 November (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 28 November at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The
mw.util.jsMessage()
function was deprecated in 2012. It will be removed next week. Look for the warningUse of "mw.util.jsMessage" is deprecated
in the JavaScript console to know if you use an affected script or gadget. If you are a gadget maintainer you should check if your JavaScript code containsmw.util.jsMessage
. There is a migration guide. It explains how to usemw.notify
instead. [35]

Interface administrator changes
- Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
- A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
- A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.
- Administrators and bureaucrats can no longer unblock themselves unless they placed the block initially. This change has been implemented globally. See also this ongoing village pump discussion (permalink).
- To complement the aforementioned change, blocked administrators will soon have the ability to block the administrator that placed their block to mitigate the possibility of a compromised administrator account blocking all other active administrators.
- Since deployment of Partial blocks on Test Wikipedia, several bugs were identified. Most of them are now fixed. Administrators are encouraged to test the new deployment and report new bugs on Phabricator or leave feedback on the Project's talk page. You can request administrator access on the Test Wiki here.
- Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 3 December 2018. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.
- In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
- Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.
- Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (Raymond Arritt) passed away on 14 November 2018. Boris joined Wikipedia as Raymond arritt on 8 May 2006 and was an administrator from 30 July 2007 to 2 June 2008.

Recent changes
- Admins will not be able to unblock themselves if they are blocked by someone other than themselves. This is because it can cause damage if someone else takes over an admin account and other admins can't block them. If this is a problem for your community you can report it on Phabricator. You can also ask questions on Meta. There is a discussion on Phabricator about how to solve this if two admins fight with each other on a small wiki. [36]
- Small SVG images are now bigger when you see them in MediaViewer. [37]
- You can go to a section from the edit summary by clicking on the section name. Before this you had to click on the arrow. [38]
- When you jumped to a footnote that was referenced several times in an article it could be difficult to see where you were in the text. Now there are jump marks and highlights to help you find your way back. [39][40]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 5 December at 16:00 (UTC) and at 23:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes
- New accounts will need passwords that are at least 8 characters long. Admins, interface admins, bureaucrats, oversighters, CentralNotice admins, global renamers, check users, stewards and some other user groups will need passwords that are at least 10 characters long. This is because an attacker could cause damage to the wikis if they took over these accounts. [41][42]
- When you hover over a footnote it will show you the reference as a pop-up. This is so you don't have to jump down to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will happen in 2019. Some wikis already have gadgets that do this. You will be able to turn it off. [43]

Orphaned non-free image File:Israel Fire and Rescue Services logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Israel Fire and Rescue Services logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:34, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 7 January 2019.
Recent changes
- Some templates that show notices about the content of the page will now be shown on the mobile website. In many cases they were hidden before. [44][45]
- Admins can no longer unblock themselves, except for self-blocks. A blocked admin can block the user who blocked them but no one else. This is so no one can block all admins on a wiki without being stopped. [46]
- The ParserMigration extension has been removed. It compared the result of two versions of the MediaWiki wikitext parsing pipeline. It was used when we moved to the Remex parsing library instead of Tidy.
Problems
<ref>
tags can use parameters such as "name" or "group". For example<ref name="adams" group="books">
. If a<ref>
tag has more than two parameters all parameters are ignored. You don't get a warning that they don't work. This will soon be fixed. [47]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 December. It will be on all wikis from 20 December (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 19 December at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The Wikimedia Foundation Android app team are working on making it easier to edit on mobile phones. You can read more about these plans. If you have an Android phone and speak at least two languages you can help testing in English. Tell Dchen (WMF) you want to be part of the testing by writing on her talk page or email her.
-
tiles.wmflabs.org
andwma.wmflabs.org
will stop working. They have no maintainers and run an old operating system. Tools which use it could stop working. This includes the mapnik gadget, hill shading, and hike and bike layers. New maintainers could help out and keep it going. [48]

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).
- There are a number of new or changed speedy deletion criteria, each previously part of WP:CSD#G6:
- G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
- R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
- G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.
- The Wikimedia Foundation now requires all interface administrators to enable two-factor authentication.
- Members of the Bot Approvals Group (BAG) are now subject to an activity requirement. After two years without any bot-related activity (e.g. operating a bot, posting on a bot-related talk page), BAG members will be retired from BAG following a one-week notice.
- Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
- At least 8 characters in length
- Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
- Different from their username
- User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
- Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
- {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.
- Following the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: AGK, Courcelles, GorillaWarfare, Joe Roe, Mkdw, SilkTork.
- Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
- Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
