The file is still currently used in three articles. Your closure implies that it should be kept in those articles, right? From my reading, the one who voted "keep" discussed the use in the song article, not anything else. I hope to stand corrected on this. George Ho (talk) 05:13, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for alerting me. I will amend the close. -- Whpq (talk) 03:59, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

The Computer Book cover image
[edit]Sorry to drop this on you on Christmas Eve, but I'd like to question your deletion rationale for File:The Computer Book (BBC 1982).jpg.
I've started a thread at Talk:The_Computer_Programme#Book_cover_image.
Thanks -- and Happy Christmas! -- hope you're not looking at this until at least after Boxing Day :-) , Jheald (talk) 23:37, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the holiday wishes. And yes, it does seem I am seeing this after Boxing Day. I suspect that discussing the NFCC compliance on the
imagearticle talk page will just result in the two of us talking amongst ourselves and not getting very far. I think it would be better to have input from other editors as well so I will remove the "di" deletion tagging and nominate it for discussion at WP:FFD instead. Feel free to paste in the text you added to the talk page into the FFD. And Merry Christmas (belatedly) and have a Happy New Year. -- Whpq (talk) 00:34, 28 December 2024 (UTC) - UPDATE: @Jheald: It looks like the image is already deleted. I had seen it earlier today but didn't have time to do anything until now. I will request to the deleting admin to restore it so it can be converted to an FFD. -- Whpq (talk) 00:39, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Update the second @Jheald: The deleting admin has restored the image and it is now at FFd. -- Whpq (talk) 00:50, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
File:Mia Le Roux at Miss South Africa 2024.jpeg
[edit]Hi Whpq. Could you take a look at File:Mia Le Roux at Miss South Africa 2024.jpeg? It's possible that it's the uploader's own work, but there's no EXIF data, source url or anything else to indicate as much. There are lots of similar images of Le Roux from that event posted online and this one here is a smaller version of the same image that was posted either the same day as or the day after the one uploaded to Wikipedia (depending upon your time zone). Given what the uploader posted at User talk:King Mshotinarry#File permission problem with File:Chidimma.jpeg about another one of their uploads, I'm getting the feeling that this one too might not be their own work. Do you think it's OK just to AGF here or should VRT verification at least be required? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:28, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- I doubt very much the uploader is copyright holder. Nominate it at FFD with your evidence. -- Whpq (talk) 00:47, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. I've started a discussion about the file at FFD. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:59, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Using the same file name
[edit]I wanted to get a little clarification/be able to put a file in the right way. I tried to update the file with a new image but the original kept showing up. Is there a certain way to update the file with a new image without changing the file? Just wanting to learn the right way to update an image! Brian.S.W (talk) 01:34, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- The image may appear to not have changed because of caching. See Help:Purge for more information. Whpq (talk) 05:03, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Editor experience invitation
[edit]Hi Whpq. I'm looking for experienced editors to interview here. Feel free to pass if you're not interested. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 08:34, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'll pass. Thanks. -- Whpq (talk) 13:56, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- That's completely understandable. I hope you have a food new year. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:03, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- I've already had a food new year. Salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, scones, and tea! It was yummy. Hope you have a food new year as well! -- Whpq (talk) 14:15, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- 😂 That's a fun typo. I had ranch Doritos and a pulled chicken burrito bowl. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:17, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

File:Aramco Stadium.jpg
[edit]Hi Whpq and Happy New Year! Do you think File:Aramco Stadium.jpg can be licensed as {{Non-free proposed architecture}}
? The source provided for the image is a direct link so it's hard to say for sure, but it seems unlikely the image has been released under an acceptable free license. The source url actually is a link to the website of Populous (company), the architectural firm designing Aramco Stadium, so it should be OK per NFCC#4. FWIW, it looks like the uploader did provide a non-free use rationale but just failed to add the license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:55, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- I would expect that it is highly unlikely to to be freely licensed. Ask the uploader to provide a link to the page that includes the image instead of a direct link. The file description looks to have an attempt at a non-free usage rationale. It otherwise looks like a valid use of non-free content, so perhaps the best way forward is to explain our non-free content policy and have them provide the corrections. That way, ,they will know what to do for future uploads of this nature. -- Whpq (talk) 13:55, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look a this. I posted something on the uploader's user talk page as you suggested. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:55, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
Harry Daniels Photo
[edit]Dcw2003 (talk)Thanks so much I love corresponding with other writers, but to be honest, i prefer not to add on to my work reponsibilities with Wiki. If you learn any more or want to tell me where you found proof that the Daniels yearbook was published in 1929 as opposed to 1930, let me know. Or are you going to use the angle that the copyright was not renewed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcw2003 (talk • contribs)
- @Dcw2003: I think you mean the 1930 Northeastern University Yearbook with the Walter Colbath photo. This blog post has a scan of the first few pages from the 1930 Syllabus which is Northeastern University's yearbook. The copyright notice states it is 1929. -- Whpq (talk) 23:25, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Daniels went to and swam for Northwestern in Evanston, not Northeastern which is in Massachusetts. No? Dcw2003 (talk) 13:28, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, you meant Northwestern University. Thanks for your great and quick response and research. Finding public domain photos is a task that should be better documented and taught to new and even experienced wiki editors, I believe. It can be time consuming and complex. Scanning through every page of an old newspaper online looking for a copyright notice or rather the lack of a copyright notice is tedious and time consuming, for example. We should document carefully where and how to look for public domain photos. Just a thought. Thanks again!!!!! Dcw2003 (talk) 13:33, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- I meant Colbath not Daniels, although both attended Northwestern. Dcw2003 (talk) 13:34, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I meant Northwestern. As for a guide to finding PD material, a big challenge is that the rules for copyright are complex, and have changed multiple times over the years. -- Whpq (talk) 14:27, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

File:Christopher Gibbs.jpg
[edit]Hi Whpq. Could you take a look at File:Christopher Gibbs.jpg? It was tagged with {{Better source requested}}
by Iruka13; so, I tried working backwards to see if I could find one. The photo comes from this obituary, but the attribution provided might be an issue per WP:NFCC#2 and item 7 of WP:NFC#UUI. Do you think this meets the condtions for speedy deletion per WP:F7? -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:59, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes it meets WP:F7 as an image from a commercial photo agency. -- Whpq (talk) 20:01, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
4H license plate
[edit]I ask for reconsideration of Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2025_January_16#File:4HTexas.png. If this was the file, all components of it fall in the public domain. While the 4H logo enjoys trademark protections, it is not copyrighted. It most certainly is not G12. Buffs (talk) 15:13, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. I've restored the file, and declined the speedy deletion. I have also re-opened the FFD. -- Whpq (talk) 20:47, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't have a problem with declining the speedy deletion. The related FFD discussion is probably the best venue at this time. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 22:27, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! Buffs (talk) 23:32, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
I think File:AmeriloveTexPlate.png might need to be restored for the same reasons. I can't assess without seeing what it was. Buffs (talk) 23:38, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- It's this one. -- Whpq (talk) 01:35, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
