Hello. Thanks for the help with Harry Eytinge and Louis Victor Eytinge. The reason I named Harry Eytinge as "Harry Eytinge (Actor 1822-1900)" was that there was a silent movie actor named Harry Eytinge who was born some time later in 1862 and I may write his bio if I can find enough information. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Vanna Bonta is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vanna Bonta (3rd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Proposed deletion of Conspiracy of Silence (Church persecutions)

[edit]

The article Conspiracy of Silence (Church persecutions) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Pius XI appears to have used this ordinary phrase just once in this context. It's noted in his biography and in the entry for the encyclical Divini redemptoris. It is otherwise of insufficient note to justify its own WP entry.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote

[edit]

Hi. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you may know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but I am also a professional researcher of Wikipedia. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Wikipedia's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian (in fact, the third most active - color me impressed!), and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Wikipedia researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 19:15, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you are right. Btw, I haven't seen you edit any Polish-related articles recently, when will you swing by again? And thank you for your answer, I think there's one in the survey that's applicable for it. Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:19, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category 20th-century lawyers

[edit]

I think this category is undefining, and will eventually be bloated beyond recognition. Most politicians are also lawyers. There must be a hundred thousand people with bios here qualifying for this one. Categories should only be added if they are "defining" (with a few exceptions), most of those politicians added by you recently have never been known/notable/famous for their legal practice, but rather as politicians. I'm thinking about proposing this category for deletion. Kraxler (talk) 12:59, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I had some of the same thoughts myself the other day, when I began the categorizing spree. I take your point, and am not sure but that I don't feel something of the same way myself. Having said that, I do think the category has about as much validity as, say, Category:20th-century musicians or Category:20th-century painters. And it can be winnowed down by nationality, I shouldn't wonder. Which I might do one of these days.
So I'm sort of in the middle on the subject, erring in favor of the category, basically. But I won't say that I couldn't be convinced otherwise at some point. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:54, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To be a musician, or a painter, is much more definite and/or defining (a requirement to add categories), than being a lawyer. Almost all lawyers I've written about (several hundred) were not known for their legal work. 20th century lawyer has as much validity as 20th-century milk drinker or 20th-century beach vacationer. "20th-century lawyer" is currently being added (by you, inter alia) at all people who are already in the following categories: disbarred lawyers, New York Court of Appeals judges, New York Supreme Court Justices, New York state court judges, County district attorneys in New York, etc., and lawyers (by profession) who were notable as New York State Senators, Members of the New York State Assembly, etc. In the end it will become a terrible unhelpful hold-all. 20th-century painters has already almost a thousand pages, plus subcategories by country. I expect 20th-century lawyer to go into 50,000 pages easily, if anybody can find the time to waste on it. Kraxler (talk) 18:17, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Kraxler here. You should only be categorizing a person as a lawyer if they are notable as a lawyer - not people who were a non-notable as a lawyer before becoming a politician or people who are famous as a sportsperson (example) and later became a lawyer. Many articles mention many jobs (e.g. "lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy"), but adding a category tag for any job that a person has ever done isn't appropriate - it just creates category clutter on articles, watchlist noise and makes categories less useful for navigation. DexDor (talk) 19:10, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
See, I don't have a problem with it as a defining category. For a politician, say...he may not have been notable as a lawyer, but if it was a substantial part of his career then I'm in favor of adding lawyer-based categories to his article. (Take my state delegate, for instance - he's not likely to be remembered as a lawyer, but it is his job, it's what he does, and it defines him as much as being politics does. To me, at any rate.)
Where I do have a problem, and where I'm open to conviction, is the necessity of some of those lawyer-based categories in the first place. "20th-century lawyers" falls into that category, for me...what difference does it make that a lawyer worked during the 20th-century? I can maybe see the argument for people in artistic fields. I'm not sure it's a necessity for the law.
If any of this makes any sense? I don't frequently engage in policy discussions here because I know what I mean when I say it, but I'm not convinced I can articulate it well enough for anyone else when I say it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:34, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We should categorize based on what makes the person notable for inclusion in an encyclopedia. E.g. Harold Brainsby may have spent decades working as a lawyer, he may have been a devoted husband and father, he may have been a regular church-goer or keen gardener ... to him (and his family) those may have been the things that defined him, but we're writing an enclopedia and he's in the encyclopedia because of what he did as a sportsman. DexDor (talk) 20:53, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps. Personally, I don't agree, in that I think professional life and personal life are generally two different matters. So if he spent extensive time as a lawyer, I think it should be noted. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:56, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to quote from Wikipedia:Categorization of people#N: "For example, a film actor who holds a law degree should be categorized as a film actor, but not as a lawyer unless his or her legal career was notable in its own right and/or relevant to his acting career. Many people had assorted jobs before taking the one that made them notable; those other jobs should not be categorized. Now substitute politician for actor, and there we are, concerning politicians.
I'd like to mention also Wikipedia:Overcategorization#Mostly overlapping categories: "If two or more categories have a large overlap (e.g. because many athletes participate in multiple all-star games, and religious leadership does not radically change from year to year), it is generally better to merge the subjects to a single category, and create lists to detail the multiple instances." In the case of judges or district attorneys there would be a more than 50% overlap because, I suppose, more than half of all bios here on Wikipedia are people of the 20th century. Kraxler (talk) 14:59, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015

[edit]
How to pick up more women...
Hi Ser! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women... -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. Examples include the Edit-a-thon blitz during WikiWomen's History Month and the "new articles" work underway by WikiProject Women Writers. The Wikimania talk proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! Hi. I was doing a little research and saw that you edited this page recently. May i ask what you edited and do you have any first hand knowledge of john clark the boxer? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Clark_%28boxer%29

Ruth Phillips

[edit]

I was wondering how come you didn't put a prod up for Ruth Phillips? Was it a mistake or is she notable enough for a article? I just put one up now. (There was one case where I almost put a prod up for a actor but considering he had a Italian wiki and I was going "oh well he have a IMDB page anyway" I just skipped that) Wgolf (talk) 20:16, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If not, shall I put it back in?

Thank you.

Project Anthroponymy

[edit]

Thank you for the invitation to WikiProject Anthroponymy, I added myself as member, Im rather interested in Anthroponymy.

I can also see that you are an experienced AWB user, could you just brief me in the fast, easiest way to sort out all stubs on a wiki, and give all those stubs the template {{stub}}?I have also problems of finding pages with the template {{Ait}} since AWB gives me all pages where the text Ait is mentioned, also those without the template brackets. Much greatful for any advice, or where I can find it, I couldnt find it on the AWB manual. Dan Koehl (talk) 18:02, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

M. Thomas Inge

[edit]

Okay so looking for strange yob for people still living I found M. Thomas Inge, which I'm not sure how this happened-but born in 1879 and listed as dying in 2001, looks like some vandalism (usually I just correct the dates whenever I find this-like I found someone saying still living born in 1750!) but for this guy not sure what to say...I did take off the 1879 part. (since you have contributed to the article I sent you this message) Wgolf (talk) 22:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the reference it says he collected papers that date from 1879 to 2001, not that he was alive for that period. And there's no reason to doubt that he is still alive – he appears to have been editing and publishing as recently as 2011. --Deskford (talk) 22:38, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration

[edit]

Would love to work with you on future articles. I've gone through your recent edit history, and I'm intrigued. These articles are stable, but the last two articles I began are Juneau Mountain Rescue and 2015 Halifax train crash. I'd love to hear your feedback on them. In my roughly 9 years on Wikipedia, I have created about 20 articles, so I'm not a "new page factory". The vast majority of my contributions are "house keeping" issues related to details, references, and categories in other articles. I believe you and I could collaborate effectively on a wide range of issues. I hope you agree. Juneau Mike (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

English writers

[edit]

Hi, I don't have a particular issue with splitting men and women writers but my concern is that most readers will be looking in the main English writers category for the articles and pretty soon it's going to be empty and the real categories like English male and English female writers are going to be hidden among the massive number of sub categories. Is it possible that for all of the ones you've split where there is a large number of sub categories that you could add a hatnote at the top of the categories explaining that they're split by male and female and embolden and link the main ones at the top? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:43, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Glad to see we're half the way to 5 million now anyway (from 4.5 mill I mean). These days it seems to take a few years to even gain 500,000 new articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:51, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I saw you tagged The 5th Quarter with {{plot}}. WP:FILMPLOT recommends a length of 400–700 words, and this is only 465 words long. Hi. It seems you hav added the template for WikiProject Ice Hockey to a lot of articles about bandy. They should be in WikiProject Sports in stead. Could you take a look at the following pages? You don't seem to have retagged them properly. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:15, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, re these edits - about 20% of them created redlinks, so I fixed them up. But I'm puzzled as to why you wanted to replace the sport-specific {{WikiProject Ice Hockey}} with the general {{WikiProject Sports}}, when several of those talk pages already had some other sport-specific WikiProject banner, or their articles clearly concerned somebody involved in ice hockey. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:14, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what happened - they were part of a batch of things that I retagged from WikiProject Ice Hockey because they dealt with bandy. I did a handful of spot checks as I was going along and everything seemed fine; I'm not sure what went wrong with these specifically. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:11, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the message. In Wisconsin there are several University of Wisconsin campuses including Madison. A tag has been placed on Johnsons Creek Natural Area Preserve requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Retired numbers

[edit]

Hey, man. Thanks for the awesome retired numbers template. I'm trying right now to clean things up and make them uniform throughout the MLB. The problem is that the Toronto Blue Jays' Level of Excellence has incredibly long images that are illegible at 100px. I don't want to screw things up, and am unsure how to put the option in without screwing everything up. It's been some years since I created templates.

I'll go around and add sizes to all 30 teams when it's done. I've been planning on fiddling with stuff anyway. I meant to do it a long time ago and am finally getting down to it now. Thank you. --The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 14:01, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gender categorization

[edit]

Hi, My understanding of WP:CATGRS is that a categorisation by any of these WP:NONDEFINING characteristics should only be used if there are reliable sources using them. Somebody being male and a writer doesn't make him a "male writer." It is so only if a reliable source labels him as such. My guess is that pretty much all the entries in Category:Male writers fail this test. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 09:28, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan tags

[edit]

A large number of orphan tags that you've added today via AWB to some articles I've created have been inaccurate... is there any particular reason for this? Connormah (talk) 05:28, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure - Marion Gressette, L. Mendel Rivers, Jr., McKinley Washington, Jr. recently, and earlier in the day a whole chain of Arkansas House Speakers, most recent being William W. Cate, through the whole series if you click through the "successor" field of the infobox (all the articles are linked to their predecessor and successors). Does AWB add them automatically or something? Connormah (talk) 05:33, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I guess that explains it... yeah, I'm not too crazy about the tag. Lots of the articles that I've created in the past really don't have a chance of being de-orphaned unless someone invests the time to make articles of list of various state legislature sittings (or they die and get added to the deaths page) really, so I feel that tag just takes up space in most cases. It's misleading on the articles that actually have links though in my opinion, for what it's worth. Connormah (talk) 05:43, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I can see that. Honestly reading through the previous deletion discussions of it, I'm probably in the camp that feels it's a bit unnecessary. It doesn't really indicate anything that is important to the reader of the article about the quality of it. Unfortunately a lot of the articles I make fall into the "really hard to de orphan: category... anyways, thanks again for all your work in cleaning up after me. I've been trying not to be so lazy recently at least... haha. Connormah (talk) 05:53, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pearl S Buck Page

[edit]

Hi. I'm very much a novice when it comes to navigating when and how to use Wikipedia's 'talk' pages and 'sandbox', so if you would cut me some slack in terms of formatting my explanations of the primary sources that we are providing to support our entries on the Pearl S Buck page that would be great.

1. Regarding deletions of well-referenced information placed on the Pearl S Buck page, why is that information being deleted? The weight and quality of the references that we provide to support that information that describes Pearl S Buck involvement/integral role in placing Canada Scoops/60's Scoops victims in USA include the following:

1. National Archives of Canada, in courts of law that is considered a primary source, but Wikipedia doesn't consider it good enough? and 2. documentary done by Aboriginal People's Television Network.

And, The information that you are letting stand that blames someone else - a deceased dance instructor - for the Pearl S Buck involvement in Canadian Scoops is not as well referenced as the information that we provide.

It seems like you are letting Pearl S Bucks public relations machine make the editorial decisions regarding this page.

Please advise on what more we can do - other than hiring a firm to keep the information on Wikipedia which is something that I have been approached about. Thank you. WV NYC (talk) 12:02, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear,

On Gerda Arendt's talk page you write that you are singing Bruckner's Os justi. Is it the commonly sung first edition (without the Versus-Choral), or the full edition (with the Versus-Choral): Band XXI/28 in Bruckner's Gesamtausgabe?

Best regards, --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 10:12, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: After the unison "Alleluja", which is ending the commonly preformed first edition, the full edition continues with the verse "Inveni David" in Gregorian mode with organ accompaniment, followed by a second (a cappella) unison "Alleluja". See Os justi.
I guess that the Christus factus est, which you will sing, is the popular a cappella WAB 11. --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 16:51, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Irish/British categorisation

[edit]

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I noticed you have been doing a lot of recategorisations in the past few days, in the course of which at least 30 or so Irish composers (pre-Irish independence) got a British category from you (like "British opera composers" or "British classical composers"). I suppose you feel entitled to do so because, before independence, Ireland was part of the United Kingdom. In the meantime, some of this work of yours has already been reverted (not by me) by editors who don't like the idea of Irish people being called British (see articles on A.J. Potter and John Andrew Stevenson). And you know, they are right! Ireland was part of the UK (until 1923), but never part of Britain. I therefore ask you to stop this activity and instead respect the national identities of Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English composers, even if an Irish composer may once have had a UK passport or spent his/her career in England. That makes a lot more sense than a British category. I for one will change the 30 or so composers on my watchlist that you changed to "British" back to Irish in the next few days. Adding parent categories

[edit]

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao. I noticed that you are adding parent categories to a very large number of of film articles (example). Articles should be categorized in the most specific categories within a category branch (see WP:CAT#Categorizing pages). Category:American documentary films is not a non-diffusing subcategory as defined in WP:DUPCAT. I recommend that you roll back these changes.- MrX 10:33, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I posted above about that. I couldn't figure out why. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:36, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see you're still adding Category:American films to articles containing Category:American documentary films and other subcategories even after these queries, please stop or explain.— TAnthonyTalk 14:40, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@TAnthony: I full support him doing so, the category should contain all American films for convenience. In fact I was going to stop by and thank him for his category work in this area.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:12, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28proposals%29/Archive_122#RfC:_Should_Persondata_template_be_deprecated_and_methodically_removed_from_articles.3F You better remove them as well, rather than reinstating them. Thanks. Aklein62 (talk) 10:53, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please continue

[edit]

It's not clear to me why you're adding the parent categories to articles. For instance Category:2013 American animated films is a child of Category:American films. I have reverted two such edits. I'm not going to undo all of them. I suggest you stop and discuss. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:55, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Walter Görlitz: I'm the founder of the actors project and am one of the most prolific film contributors on here and I think Ser Amantio is doing a great job adding the categories. It is a good thing to have one category with all American films in for consistency's sake and to have a full A-Z. If anything I'd argue that Category:2013 American animated films is Wp:Overcategorization and would support it being deleted. Category:2010s American animated films might just about be acceptable, by year is pushing it IMO. What does Lugnuts and MarnetteD think?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:43, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Walter Görlitz: per WP:FILMCAT, all films are put in the category for their countries. Category:2013 American animated films is not the child of Category:American films, it's the child of Category:2010s American animated films, which is a child of Category:American animated films by decade, which is a child of Category:American animated films, and that's a child of Category:American films by genre. And per Category:American films - "For convenience, all American films are included in this category. This includes all American films that can also be found in the subcategories." If you have any more questions, please raise them at the Film Project. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 17:50, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can but echo and agree with the comments by Dr. Blofeld and Lugnuts. Also, as mentioned by NinjaRobotPirate in the thread above User talk:Ser Amantio di Nicolao#Adding parent categories, Category:American films is non-diffusing. SAdN's editing is within the guidelines and is an asset to the project. MarnetteD|Talk 18:06, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Dr. Blofeld that Category:2013 American animated films is OC. We don't even have Category:2013 American films. Why on earth would we want a [year]-[nationality]-[genre] category structure for films where we don't even have a [year]-[nationality] structure? postdlf (talk) 19:12, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If somebody takes them to CFD I'll support deleting them, I'm glad to see the Tamil categories have been nipped in the bud, they were heading the same way.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:15, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm astounded that this is the case. They should clearly be children of American Films. Keep going, but get a bot to do the work. Better yet, clean up the cats as suggested, but make logical parent categories. Once again, sorry for the misunderstanding. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:52, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ser, why are you removing the category Male composers from subjects who are, actually, male composers?? eg [7] or [8]... Cavarrone 08:46, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Consider that most of the male film score composers are not just composers of film scores... eg if you check the articles, you'll see that Pino Massara or Oscar Prudente were only rarely active in that field, while their main field was being composers of songs. Giancarlo Chiaramello and Armando Fragna were mainly active as score composers of stage plays. Nino Rota composed orchestral, chamber and choral music and even operas. Franco Godi specialized in composing commercial jingles, as to be called "Mr. Jingle" 1. --Cavarrone 15:24, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your interest. I'm working on this--I may be wrong--there may be two castles with the same name; the Vichy one would be near Gannat in Allier, which is quite far. I will fix this problem once I have finished reading a few articles. Do you think I should just write over the non-listed/demolished castle whose page I created, or keep it as a one-reference stub, and create Château de la Fauconnière (Allier)?Zigzig20s (talk) 13:51, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I created both pages with a hatnote. I will add more to the Allier one as I read Jstor articles about it...Zigzig20s (talk) 14:12, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots

[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Adminship

[edit]

Hi! I see you're one of the top 5 contributors to Wikipedia, but unless I'm mistaken, your name isn't on the list of Admins. With your permission, I'd like to nominate you:-) David Cannon (talk) 13:14, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidcannon: Since when has number of edits/content produced been a precondition for adminship? On here, if anything I'd argue the less content one produces and less time they've been here tend to be more successful candidates. I have contributed over 100,000 new articles here and am not an admin, and I have no desire to be, so please don't nom me too!! I agree though that Ser Amantio is one of the mildest tempered individuals on here who should quite rightly have tools though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have normalized the form of your RfA, though I had half a mind to let it run in the simple form just as an experiment, such things should probably be arranged ahead of time. Please note there are standard questions candidates are expected to answer, please take a look. –xenotalk 19:49, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I will shortly. I'd meant to have a look at normalization, but it's been a busier day than I anticipated. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:51, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Would you like me to take down the nomination until you have a chance to answer the questions? Technically it shouldn't be transcluded by anyone other than yourself or the nominator. –xenotalk 19:53, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No need - give me about ten minutes and I should be sorted. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:55, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference errors on 23 June

[edit]

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:30, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, can you tack Template:Mukhya Upanishads at the foot of the articles links?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:36, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You made this change. I don't think Cohan was a "singer-songwriter". He was a singer, composer and lyricist, but he was not like, say, Billie Joel, who writes songs and sings them. He wrote songs for *shows* in which he sometimes also starred. Are you sure about this? -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:32, 25 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Please exercise care when using scripted tools that your edits are correct. With this edit, you added the subject to a more specific category without removing the now-improper parent category. I randomly clicked one of the other articles you did at the same time and you made the same error. Please go through and clean those up. --Laser brain (talk) 02:00, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I beg your pardon—I had not previously waded into the morass of documentation on non-diffusing sub-categories. I think I understand what was written, but I'm not sure I understand why the gender one in particular should be non-diffusing. I suppose that question is above my pay grade. Have a good day! --Laser brain (talk) 11:32, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for adminship

[edit]

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I have closed your request for adminship as successful. Congratulations on both the positive result and for your place on WP:RFX100. As always, the administrators' reading list is worth reading and the new admin school is most certainly available if you feel that you might require some practice with the tools in a safe environment prior to applying them elsewhere on the project. Good luck with your adminship! Acalamari 19:48, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Trivial userpage thing

[edit]

I know this is fairly trivial, but in light of the recent promotion you might want to change your current topicons to the {{administrator topicon}}, seeing as both reviewer and autopatrolled are included in the standard administrator toolkit. Cheers! Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:06, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was a good movie

[edit]

I enjoyed the movie immensely and I appreciate good filmmaking too bad it didn't reach critical acclaim but the music's good and the story is interesting. Keith Hines — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.112.82.98 (talk) 05:39, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American rock singer-songwriters

[edit]

Hi, please stop adding pages to Category:American rock singer-songwriters, which is marked as to be deleted following Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 November 11. I have been slowly recategorising the member pages and had just got it down to about 100, but you seem to have added 440 more. Please can you reverse this?

WP:CFDWM is the list of manual tasks including deletion of this category. – Fayenatic London 19:50, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please review this discussion. It seems that not everyone shares the view that being a singer and a songwriter makes one a "singer-songwriter" and, thus, placement in that category without manual review might be controversial. It's probably not a good candidate for semi- or fully automated tools. --Laser brain (talk) 20:25, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Laser brain: in the exercise completed just now to diffuse Category:American rock singer-songwriters, nobody was added into the singer-songwriter category hierarchy who was not in it already. – Fayenatic London 21:30, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Fayenatic london: Oh, I know. I just saw the conversation going recently and figured I'd mention it because I'd seen Ser Amantio di Nicolao adding some pages to singer-songwriter categories. I've also seen disagreements erupt about the label "singer-songwriter" at FAC. So, I'm just preemptively mentioning it. :) --Laser brain (talk) 21:44, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up. Everything should be in order now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:47, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
