Resignation

[edit]

I resign as administrator and editor of the English Wikipedia. After 18 years, it has become clear to me that there are significant disagreements between where this site is going and where I believe it needs to go. Considering that I need to be spending less time on Wikipedia due to a career and personal life, it seems better to part ways and move on. I thank those that I have worked with and wish them the best. Rschen7754 00:00, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Very sorry to see this, and wish you all the best - jc37 00:57, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Curious what "there are significant disagreements between where this site is going and where I believe it needs to go" really boils down to. Are you comfortable elaborating (here or in email)?  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  09:33, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would point to the links on my page, and also immediately above this discussion. --Rschen7754 15:51, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, and I've read it all. Interesting stuff, and I can see the reasons for the fork. Good luck with that project! I've long thought that more specialized information would lead to a profusion of other wikis. While this has mostly happened with pop-culture topics over at Fandom (ex-Wikia), it's nice to see it start happening for the nitty-gritty details of less trivial topics. Hopefully some of your work over there can still translate into "encyclopedically compressed" improvements over here, too.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:29, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your good work over the years Andre🚐 16:50, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm late to the party but best of luck with whatever you pursue in the future, I hope we'll cross paths again eventually! Legoktm (talk) 06:49, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh man! Likewise, but I'm truly excited about the new roads being travelled & would love to chat about that sometime. All warmth, – SJ + 17:06, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Rschen7754,
I'm also late to hearing this news. Thank you for all that you have contributed over 18 years, it's been invaluable. Good luck with whatever you decide to spend your time on, those folks will be lucky! Liz Read! Talk! 02:48, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rschen, did not know you that well, but I did like what I saw of you and I hate to see good people not stay with us and keep up the good fight. Best Wishes. Huggums537voted! (sign🖋️|📞talk) 06:12, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

cut it out

[edit]

You and others left to form your own project elsewhere. That's all fine, but your group already used your last newsletter to canvass people to the new project, and you got away with that. Coming back and doing it again is really pushing it, and in case you didn't notice all those edits have been reverted. This is obvious WP:POINT behavior and if it happens again you can expect a block for it. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 20:35, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Just Step Sideways: I am afraid that this sort of threatening behavior (reminds me of a certain social media platform [1]) says more about this project than us, and might backfire. If this community is chasing editors away (that we have worked with for several years), then I would consider it courteous to let us diplomatically present an alternative (notably, for the rest of the world that was not in scope in 2023) and amicably let those editors part ways, rather than you having to do it yourselves. Just a thought. --Rschen7754 20:48, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not the place to advertise your project. You were active here more than long enough to be perfectly aware of this. This is a simple matter of policy and nothing else. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:07, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This sort of behavior goes against the spirit of foundation:Resolution:Wikimedia Foundation Guiding Principles#Freedom and open source. And no, there seems to be some decision on what policies to selectively enforce, and methods to enforce them going on here. --Rschen7754 21:17, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to complain to the office then, I don't work for them, I'm just a lowly volunteer admin going by what our local policy actually is. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:36, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
