WikiCup 2021 May newsletter
The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in Round 2 were:
- The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
- Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
- Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
- Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
- Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
- Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
- Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
- Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.
Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Draft:John Varley Roberts - undeletion
Morning, Thank you for your message in regards to my request to undelete the above article. I understand your query and apologise for the edits not being made previously, but I can assure you the edits are ready to be made. Many thanks, David — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baker1952 (talk • contribs) 00:32, May 2, 2021 (UTC)

Refund request
Hi, Muboshgu, I made a refund request for the Harsanyi articl on April 26, which seems to have been left in the dust. No pressure-- I'm okay if the request is denied, but I'd just like to know, one way or the other? Thanks for the work you do. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:23, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Grand'mere Eugene, I hadn't noticed that not-acted-on request there. I've seen other AfDs with one voter be soft deleted before, but perhaps this one wasn't because JPL's comment about weak sourcing seems to be on the nose. MBisanz, do you have any thoughts on this? My inclination would be to potentially restore it to draft space – Muboshgu (talk) 22:53, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, Muboshgu, I decided to withdraw the request and initiate a new draft. If the sourcing was useless, best to just start fresh. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 20:12, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Jana Lynne Sanchez article
I'm going to read the IP comments and investigation about an alleged paid editing. When I went to update the articles about Ellzey I read over a dozen articles on Sanchez. I don't know how much the editor(s?) in question contributed, but if such edits were accurate, shouldn't it/they remain? Activist (talk) 22:38, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template. at any time by removing the
- The editing history of Sanchez is very odd. She was editing under her own name, 29 times over seven weeks from March through May 2019, then quit editing for 19 months. There was no subterfuge, and I suspect she had no idea that was a violation of Wikipedia policies. Thirty days after opening a User account, she created a page for her associate, James Kinsella. She restarted editing on December 30, 2020, four to three articles possibly unrelated to her, then 10 more to her own article. She then made 11 edits in January through March 2021, including seven to her own article. The many edits I read were fairly matter of fact, objective, so no real harm done, IMHO. She's banned from future editing, so nothing needs to be done about that. I think all the edits in question were technically COI, but not at all if any were deceptive. I think both the Kinsella article (he is very clearly notable) and the one about her should stay. I don't think there's any evidence of paid editing, just a presumption of it. I don't have any dog in this fight. Activist (talk) 10:02, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Charles Bender Nickname
I disagree that the graf about Charles Bender's nickname makes it clear that it was a racist nickname.
- Bender was nicknamed "Chief", a common nickname for baseball players of Native American descent.(Swift, p. 4) Biographer Tom Swift writes that Bender "was often portrayed as a caricature and was the subject of myriad cartoons – many exhibits of narrow-mindedness. After he threw one of the most dominating games of the early years of the American League, Bender was depicted wielding a tomahawk and wearing a headdress as though he was a happy warrior."(Swift, p. 5)
All it says is that it was a common nickname and that he was the target of individualized racism, not that the nick itself is racist. But I also see Words to watch § Contentious labels and I'll see if I can get broader support. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Triplingual (talk • contribs) 08:38, May 6, 2021 (UTC)
- @Triplingual: we can add more context to demonstrate its racism, but we can't use the word "racist". I was going to point out WP:WTW and the specific redirect to it MOS:RACIST. Those two paragraphs from Swift show it better than the label itself can. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:03, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- That's a pretty huge issue. Even the AP allows the direct use of "racist" without needing to get into individual motivations. (https://www.poynter.org/reporting-editing/2019/ap-stylebook-update-its-ok-to-call-something-racist-when-its-racist/) I'm just a casual Wikipedia editor, but even I can see this is an issue where Wikipedia cannot be neutral. I'm also sure I'm not the first to bring that up. What if multiple reliable sources say the nick is racist? Triplingual (talk) 17:41, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- (It's also just weird writing: "This thing has this quality that we're not allowed to say, but it's a quality that is sometimes, in other places, by other people, maybe, kinda, sorta, called . . . whispers: racism.") Triplingual (talk) 17:47, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Triplingual, I'm not going to agree with you about using a WTW on the page. We are not the AP and we do not sue their stylebook. We do things differently than they do. The "nutshell" of WTW says to "Let facts alone do the talking" and I agree with that. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:04, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
With regards to Talk:Elliot Page
I was searching and couldn't find what I was looking for but maybe your expertise will help. No one seems to be seeing the FAQ at the page top and in the middle of that to boot. Is there any template that can be used (even an administrative only template) that will always appear at the talk page bottom? Something that has a parameter of bottom=yes? Since new readers place their new queries at the bottom of the page for picture and dead name removal, maybe that's where an additional giant warning could be placed so they can't miss it. Some sort of an auto-footnote. Just a thought. Cheers. Fyunck(click) (talk) 05:57, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Fyunck(click), I don't believe that there is one like that. It may be that we should try an edit notice. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:19, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- I just tried it on my own talk page. That can work. Anything that at least hits a poster with an extra message to read the FAQ, Wording like: "Attention---Before editing, please consult the list of Frequently Asked Questions specific to this article. The FAQ specifically includes information on Deadname and Photos." Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:21, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Julian Assange
In removing material from the Julian Assange article, you wrote, if discussion is ongoing, that means there's no consensus to include it yet
. The material in question has been in the article for more than a year, as I explained on the talk page. Consensus is required to remove the material, not the other way around. There is indeed ongoing discussion (because those arguing in favor of removal have repeatedly raised and re-raised the issue, despite never getting consensus for removal), but there is no consensus for removal. -Thucydides411 (talk) 15:05, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Julian Assange
You recently removed some long standing content from the Julian Assange page. The policy on consensus seems fairly clear.
Any edit that is not disputed or reverted by another editor can be assumed to have consensus. Should that edit later be revised by another editor without dispute, it can be assumed that a new consensus has been reached. In this way, the encyclopedia is gradually added to and improved over time. Discussions sometimes result in no consensus to take or not take an action. What happens next depends on the context:
- In deletion discussions, a lack of consensus normally results in the article, page, image, or other content being kept.
- In discussions of proposals to add, modify, or remove material in articles, a lack of consensus commonly results in retaining the version of the article as it was prior to the proposal or bold edit.

Angel Hernandez
Hey there, long time no see. I've been trying to avoid drama lately, but there's ongoing IP disruption at Ángel Hernández (umpire) that I think rises to the level of page protection. As you can see from the page log, this article has been semi-protected many times over, but the disruption always resumes once the protection ends. I'm of the opinion that indefinite semi-protection is probably our best hope for ending the drama, given that Hernandez has become a magnet for IPs with an axe to grind. At any rate, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could take a look and do whatever you think is best. Hope you're doing well and congrats on Stanton's walk-off winner. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 20:33, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Lepricavark, Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.
- What's interesting is that when the page is unprotected, it's usually calm for a while. I had protected the article last back in March, and it was without trouble for all of April. If it's hit again when it's unprotected in June, we can make it longer.
- Congrats all belong to G, all I did was watch him do it from the comfort of my couch. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. Thanks for dealing with that so quickly. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 20:57, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Tim Tebow Update
Hello Muboshgu. I saw your note about removing my update on the Tim Tebow page regarding his signing with the Jaguars. The source that I cited did indeed state that the sports transaction is taking place, and is no longer a rumor. I can understand if that looked confusing since I stated that it began as a rumor at the start of my update, but that was just to present the whole of the story. The signing is no longer a rumor and as of 7 hours ago has been completed and reported. This is reflected in my source, which is a "reliable source" as per Wikipedia's standards. I'll go and re-update the page to reflect this. Please let me know if you have any questions or issues. Thanks. – Hinckleycoldstorage 22:28, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hinckleycoldstorage, this does not confirm that the transaction has taken place. A reporter says that he has "confirmed" that it will happen. But what does that mean? These deals fall through all the time. Until his ink is on a contract, and his name is added to Jacksonville's roster, then the rumored deal could still not happen. We are an encyclopedia. We are not a newspaper. We don't report "rumors" or "speculation". And yes, this is still a rumor until it happens, if it happens. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:33, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Muboshgu, totally see where you're coming from, but following thru on the sources for the article shows that the transaction is no longer a "rumor", and is in motion. That said, I understand your point about waiting til the ink is signed as a general, "print the fact, after it's taken place", versus, "print the fact, AS it's taking place" scenario, so I'll go back revert my last update. It's always tricky with sports, which are fluid, and especially with all of the clickbait journalism and what not, so better to be on the safer side. Appreciate the you giving clarity here. Thanks Hinckleycoldstorage (talk) 22:41, 11 May 2021 (UTC).
- Hinckleycoldstorage, it can be difficult in fluid situations, and that is a good reason to wait until something is 100% official. There's far more detail on this general issue at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:51, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Muboshgu, whoa that's awesome! I didn't even realize there was a whole WikiProject section on how to properly deal with that stuff. I don't edit on here often, but sports and movies are usually my sweet spot, so that is super helpful info to have. Will read through it all now so that I'm better prepared for next time. Appreciate the heads up. Cheers. – Hinckleycoldstorage (talk) 22:58, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Re: James Kaprielian Edit
Hi Muboshgu,
You left me a message but I can't figure out how to respond so I'm leaving this new message.
You rejected my edit saying "James Kaprielian is American, not Armenian." He is, in fact, of Armenian descent/ethnicity, and of American nationality. Armenians living in the United States are called "Armenian-American", exactly like "Asian-American" or "African-American". There are over a million people who fall under this umbrella, and James is a loud and proud Armenian. The Armenian people come from a disadvantaged background and have historically had to fight just to be seen, for their history not to be covered up, and for the facts of their existence to be noticed. We respectfully ask that you please reconsider your decision to overturn the edit. It's incredibly important. Thank you. User3888 (talk) 21:09, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- User3888, I also pointed you to MOS:ETHNICITY.
Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless relevant to the subject's notability.
James Kaprielian has Armenian heritage, but it is not his nationality, and is not relevant for the lead. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:59, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
WP:CAE and Jeff Bartos
I moved Jeff Bartos to a disambiguation page per WP:CAE. You unmoved it back to where it was. WP:CAE calls for a disambiguation page if a candidate has run in multiple elections. Bartos has. Muhibm0307 (talk) 21:47, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Muhibm0307,
This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference. Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear.
I have never heard of WP:CAE. It is not the way we do things. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:57, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
What is the proper Wikipedia policy article for election, then? Please reply with that. That would be helpful. Muhibm0307 (talk) 22:00, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Muhibm0307, I'd have to look in to whether there is for that. I believe we follow the Wikipedia standards for redirects, which is that the redirect term has to be mentioned on the page it redirects to. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:05, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Is it OK to create a disambiguation page for candidates that have participated in multiple elections? Muhibm0307 (talk) 22:07, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Since there would be multiple article to redirect to if they participated in multiple elections. Muhibm0307 (talk) 22:08, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- No, the candidate isn't notable so they don't get their own page, even a disambiguation page. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Cwmhiraeth (talk) 00:02, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- Following up on your comment at WP:ERRORS, the press probably lifted it from this previous version of List of New York Yankees no-hitters, since corrected. It was already at Morgridge's bio before you expanded it. It seems to have slipped through the checkpoints and made it to the MP. Correctly stated, it would be the Yankee's first (and only?) no-hitter at Fenway.—Bagumba (talk) 04:56, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Bagumba, that's probably what happened, and it's unfortunate. Even though it was in Mogridge's article before I expanded it, and numerous "reliable sources" quoted it, I could've not taken that as gospel and checked. List of Boston Red Sox no-hitters would have told me that Rube Foster threw a no-hitter at Fenway in 1916. But it incorrectly states "First no-hitter at Fenway Park" as well. Fortunately the Yankee bit was the key to the hook, and Kluber obliged me while Mogridge was on the main page. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

My mistake
My mistake. I'm new to editing Wikipedia and did not realize that I was violating a rule when repeatedly reposting the Apportionment edit. Additionally, I did not realize Daily Kos was considered an unreliable source.
I generally agree that Daily Kos should be considered a concerning or unreliable source. In the article I'm mentioning, though, the proportion results are created using Census data and simple math. Additionally, I think the information is relevant to understanding the makeup of the Senate. There are similar edits to many of the US House of Representatives Wiki pages. I'll start a discussion on the 2020 election page about that.

- Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Hello, Muboshgu,
I wanted to ask you a question. In this post, I told editor Mrjohnaytedvx that he could overcome an AFD deletion decision about Gehad Hamdy by writing a draft and submitting it to AFC for approval. So, that's what he did. But it was deleted as the recreation of an article deleted in an AFD decision even though it was in Draft space. So, they have come to REFUND to ask for the restoration of the draft.
At first, I declined because of the AFD decision and then I realized that they had taken my advice to work on an article in Draft space so I removed my denial. I'm not a regular reviewer of restoration requests so I wanted to get your perspective on this request. Liz Read! Talk! 23:53, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Liz, WP:G4 says that draftspace is an exception, so that should have been kosher. Seems that the issue may be moot, however. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:25, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think the language about drafts in WP:G4 is a little ambiguous. I've sure seen admins deleting drafts tagged CSD G4 before but, as I'm sure you know, admins can differ in how they interpret Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I've also run into different takes (strict and not-so-strict) on CSD G5s, too. Thanks for offering your perspective on this. Liz Read! Talk! 01:09, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- Liz, it's that "explicit improvement" and not "circumventing" deletion part that is open to interpretation. They may be trying to circumvent deletion, or may legitimately try to improve it. I try to default on AGF when possible. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:57, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

Sports cards
Originally the Beckett price guides were used for sources however the prices were excluded precisely for the reason that Wikipedia is not a catalog and therefore met the requirements. That project was not actually finished. Unfortunately I was unavailable to reply to the proposed deletions when they were posted. Libro0 (talk) 18:48, 12 June 2021 (UTC) Upon further review of the Wikipedia definition of catalog, it is clear the deleted articles do not constitute a catalog for the purchase of items. The articles still require other sections like ‘references in popular culture’. It would be greatly appreciated if the articles could be restored. In future please use the articles discussion page and wait for a response instead of delete since some of us users do not have the opportunity to frequent here as often as others. Thank you. Ok so I’m going to try again here to get some feedback or you can direct me to someone who can be of assistance. Clearly a generation later and ideas have changed. Notability is lost on people now. You are choosing to create your own truth and force your point of view, which is fine, but then at least be honest with yourself or yourselves: You are simply low life scumbags posing as ethical, truthful and legit person or people.
You suck. So, now go ahead and delete my POV. :)

- @Spamid:, no, I'll keep your WP:PERSONALATTACK against me here for the record. Why did I delete the article? Because it was proposed for deletion without objection. Your comments about "truth" and "point of view" are otherwise nonsensical. If you make personal attacks again, you may be blocked from editing. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:13, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Okay, I may be wrong. But, I may also still be correct. Seeing as you have left my post, and, if you simply go ahead and delete articles simply because nobody bothered to object, my question is as follows: (i) Do you simply delete to push up your editing stats and to obtain "badges" and wikipedia "honors"? (ii) Or, do you in fact bother to actually do any research and maybe add to the article, to improve Wikipedia?
I have not yet spent the time to actually look at any of your lots and lots of contributions, but, if you are an honourable, ethical and actual one human person, do consider that you are actually editing "low hanging fruit" to push up your stats.
Impi Linux was a real thing and quite notable for various obvious reasons and you simply clicking "delete" and as you state : "because of no objection"
By the same logic we can then agree to delete an entry about anything that nobody is objecting to?
Why do we not flag all articles on Wikipedia for deletion, see how many nobody objects to and then delete hundreds of thousands of pages?
Your reasoning, logic and your actions do not reflect in your reply.
Your reply itself does not reflect or exaplin your actons and you are taking this as a "personal" attack? Yet, you, a person, are doing deletions without any additional research or spending 10 minutes on a search engine?

Otaku behavior
What are you doing? Why are you wasting your time making corrections to page that was fine the way it was? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Konstantinov (talk • contribs) 03:43, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- Konstantinov, first of all, no WP:PERSONALATTACKS, which is what I assume you are calling me and whoever else you were referring to. Wikipedia works with assuming good faith and cooperation. You don't WP:OWN any article and the changes you made were not constructive. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:24, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
Please remember to clear up all the remaining incoming links which used to point to the rugby player and now point to the dab page after your page move. Thanks. PamD 11:21, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- PamD, when I did look via the unlink user script, it hadn't reflected that I had fixed the navbox templates and still included those links. I'll fix the remainder. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:20, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- Fine, thanks, I see they've all disappeared now. I wish there was a way to see "What links to this page ... except via navbox templates", as it would be a huge help, sometimes in deciding whether moving a page to a better title is worth the hassle of fixing the necessary links, as well as in this case of "OK I've fixed the templates, now what else needs to be fixed?". I believe this has to go through DRV or Undeletion
Hello @Muboshgu I created this draft Draft:Vivek Verma which was deleted previously due to the lack of refs see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vivek Verma (2nd nomination) but now there are way better sources available, And I feel AFC isn't justifying with the refs, so keeping it all in my ming I am willing to open a DRV or Undeletion case, would you suggest me to do that, Please have a look Thanks Suryabeej ⋠talk⋡ 20:00, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- Suryabeej, the article will not be undeleted at WP:RFUD since it was deleted via discussion. I do not recommend DRV as this does not meet the criteria of WP:DRVPURPOSE. I think the best course of action is to communicate with the AFC reviewers to find out why they haven't approved the draft. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:45, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

My edit was a true statement and I appreciate the fact it was sourced and moved to its correct paragraph and section. I did indeed argue that the sentence should also remain in the article's lead and my sentencing opinion was NOT a political bias or belief of mine, unlike the other edits that got the warnings they deserved by you yourself. This was NOT even close. Again, I appreciate the feedback. Lostfan333 (talk) 05:33, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- Lostfan333, that it is factual is not the point, and not at all what I said. The lead should reflect what is most important about a subject's entirety, not a recent statement about an issue. You made the comment in the edit summary: "Many problems, going around draft space? Draft:Mia Bonta was rejected last week. Go back thre." Not exactly. The draft was declined rather than rejected. However, the account that expanded the redirect into an article appears to be a single-purpose account. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:02, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- Robert McClenon, I did realize my mistake in saying"rejected" instead of "declined" but too late after I had hit "reply". That content was not as good as the draft appears to be. – Muboshgu (talk) 04:09, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

- Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

5x expansion
Hi Muboshgu, I'm confused about "5x expansion". Can you help me with it? I have been expanding Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind since last few days and the DYKCheck tool says it has not been 5x expanded. Confused a bit because, I've expanded it to a nice level. Suggestions and ideas? ─ The Aafī (talk) 12:19, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @TheAafi: Maybe I can help. 5x expansion means expanding the prose part of an article 5 times the original numbers of characters. For DYK, the nomination is required to be made within 7 days of expansion. The DYK check tool in not showing 5x expansion because it is not expanded 5 times. The version of article 7 days ago (7th July) has 4187 characters and current version has 12845 characters. It is almost 3x expansion, but not 5x. Maybe you can add more information (if any). Still, your work in that article is very much appreciated. Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 15:09, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- Kavyansh.Singh, I see, this version has over some 654 words in total. Doesn't that mean, my additions should make it something "654*5" which would make it a total of 3270 words? and I have just completed 2k, i.e. 3x expansion (1962 words+, 654*3). Am I right? ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:16, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @TheAafi: 5x expansion has nothing to do with words, but by the number of characters. Yes, you have done 3x expansion, and adding some more content would complete 5x expansion, but also take a note of time (as the nomination has to be made within 7 days). I didn't understood what you meant by "(1962 words+, 654*3)". Check out Wikipedia:Did you know/Fivefold for further information. Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 15:36, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

About that DYK list
It's like every little thing I run into quickly becomes way too complex--like User:Drmies/Liberia. Did Magdelaine Chapelain die in Villefranche or not? Yesterday I tried Hollands Maandblad--no sources. I'm never going to catch up with you. Drmies (talk) 14:05, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Turns out that Fort Libéria already existed (title didn't have the "é" in it...), and I'm never going to get to the 5x expansion... Drmies (talk) 20:57, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- Drmies, there's always more fish in the sea. I just discovered Jeremiah T. Mahoney yesterday, and he is not notable for baseball. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:32, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

NYC link
I'm probably not the only one to not know it snuck into OVERLINK in 2016.[1] IMO, guidelines that weren't already a rough general practice, like that one, are a bad idea. Then it being in an infobox, where driveby editors will constantly "fix" and link, doesn't help. I mainly wanted the state to remain (yet another debate to even link or pipe that) when I reverted you, and adding South Jamaica was ironic when the prev editor objected to even Queens. It's all good.—Bagumba (talk) 01:57, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Bagumba, I hadn't looked to the edit history, and this is a good reminder for me to do that. I do dislike seeing "NYC" given as a place of birth or residence, because NYC is huge with five distinct boroughs. I know I'm biased on this as I have lived and worked there in the past. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:55, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Same thing happens with LA neighborhoods. I don't necessarily disagree with you, but it seems like NBA articles at least normalized to the one size fits all "city" in infoboxes. Likewise with inclusion of state, but even that looks like it's being challenged (again). I might get out of the "consistency" business here. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 17:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Trustworthiness (technical system)
Mabuus, this draft was refunded in April 2020, and then was deleted again in October after no edits were made to improve it. Will the draft be worked on this time if it is restored again? – Muboshgu (talk) 21:57, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
from Mabuus: I agree with this refunded/non-working delay: This description is based on newer research on the topic (Industrial Internet Consortium, NIST) and was delayed due delay in documents on which is Wikipedia item is based on - we wanted to wait until the documents are really published to be used as reference. This publication finally happened in the last days and now we are ready to go with the Wikipedia entry. So please refund the draft again. mabu (talk) 21:50, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

You said "done" but the draft page is still not visible. Does this mean that the page will not be restored or that this process takes some time to complete?74.93.98.98 (talk) 16:27, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- The draft is live at Draft:Trustworthiness (technical system). – Muboshgu (talk) 16:43, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
from mabuus: I apologize for my question: I had stored an incorrect link in my bookmarks, not double-check the correct link. I can see now the page and our team will start editing as soon as possible! Thanks for refunding it and for all the additional conversation around this. That was very helpful. mabu (talk) 23:31, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

2021 NHL expansion
We folks at WP:HOCKEY are for the most part content with our hard fought consensus on where to & not to use diacritics on hockey articles. Let's leave it at that. GoodDay (talk) 01:08, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, please point me to this. I cannot fathom a reason to suppress diactirics. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:09, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Give me time to find it. Honestly, really wish you'd leave that beehive alone. GoodDay (talk) 01:10, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- here it is, as you requested. GoodDay (talk) 01:15, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, that is not what you said it was. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:19, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- The NHL is within North America & it's not a strictly French language league. Thus we don't use diacritics. GoodDay (talk) 01:22, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, I meant the discussion that built the consensus, but never mind this. This is reminding me of why I'm not involved in the hockey wikiproject. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:32, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Just accept that the compromise works. We've also compromised with the folks over at the Baltic countries. We use "Soviet Union" for birth/death country on hockey article bios, while they continue to use "Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania" on other bio articles, concerning the 1940 to 1991 era. GoodDay (talk) 01:35, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- I can dig them up if you really want them (though I'd advise saving those cognitive cells for something else less stultifying), but to summarize: over the years, there has been disagreement on English Wikipedia regarding how to apply the guidance on using commonly recognizable names for persons whose names are spelled with modified Latin letters. Some people think if a source uses a spelling other than that of the original language, it's automatically not reliable with regards to the spelling of that name. (It's been a while since the last big discussion on this, in which the votes were almost split equally on both sides.) There were some ice hockey editors who felt strongly about using the spelling of NHL players as commonly used by North American media, and those who did not. Accordingly, the compromise solution was proposed by GoodDay and used to stop edit warring, in absence of project-wide guidance. These days, there are a lot fewer hockey editors who insist on not using modified letters, and NHL teams are starting to put accents on player sweaters, so it's quite possible that within the next year, the guidance will change. isaacl (talk) 01:48, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Issacl, the last bit about the future. Please, don't make me ill. GoodDay (talk) 01:52, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Isaacl, thank you for the explanation, rather than
Just accept that the compromise works
. I wrongly assumed that MOS:DIACRITICS would have guidance on this and am surprised on that. You can definitely hold off on sending me down that rabbit hole. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:57, 22 July 2021 (UTC)- Yeah, the guidance at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) § Modified letters also says the use of modified letters is neither encouraged or discouraged. (I think the last big discussion took place on the corresponding talk page. During that time, someone tried to create an English WikiProject to promote the use of English and non-modified letters. It got deleted as a vehicle for canvassing, as I recall.) Though it's possible that the community might no longer be split on the issue, it's just one of those many areas where those who went through the discussions in the past aren't enthused about going through them again. isaacl (talk) 03:57, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, I meant the discussion that built the consensus, but never mind this. This is reminding me of why I'm not involved in the hockey wikiproject. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:32, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello Muboshgu. It appears that you have deleted my edits to the article "Julie Johnson (politician)" and claim non-NPOV. Can you explain what is non-NPOV in the edits that I made? This redirects to the Padres minor leagues list. Surprisingly, there seem to be two Brady Feigls in the minors - a pitcher at AA in the Oakland system, and a pitcher on the 60-day IL for the Padres AAA team. Do you think this name is going to be worth disambiguating, or how should this be addressed? He's got a section at the Padres page and is mentioned in a roster table at the A's one. Hog Farm Talk 05:00, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hog Farm, I was already aware of the Feigl with the Padres org, I did not know there was someone with that name in the Oakland org. And, of course, they're both pitchers. Since the Oakland Feigl isn't on the Oakland ml page, I don't think we have to do anything yet. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:58, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- So many similar names - Logan Allen is a major-leagues pitcher for Cleveland, while Logan Allen (baseball, born 1998) is a minor league player for the Indians. That could get very confusing if they're ever on the same team. Hog Farm Talk 04:37, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hog Farm, sure could. Eep the "older" Logan Allen was born in 1997. That won't be a clear disambiguation. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:20, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- And they both seem to be southpaws, too. If the younger one ever gets a stand-alone article, clear disambiguation could be tricky. Hog Farm Talk 21:08, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Kevin Kopps
On 9 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kevin Kopps, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kevin Kopps. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kevin Kopps), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. New York isn't a special case
Howdy. We've used Governor-designate before, in these situations. Why is New York being made the exception? If Cuomo changes his mind between now & then? We simply delete. Or do you prefer to get into an edit-war with a growing number of editors, over the next two weeks? GoodDay (talk) 17:03, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, we shouldn't use "governor-designate" ever, anywhere. It's not a thing. But you do have a point that this may be a battle not to fight. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:05, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Merely pointing out, that we've used it before. BTW, somebody has gone ahead & numbered the lieutenant governors of New York, which were previously un-numbered. As you can see, the result is misleading. GoodDay (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, we do lots of things that we shouldn't do. These "updates" are too fast and furious. Nothing happens for two weeks. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:09, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps. I'm gonna un-number the LtGs (again). They've got Hochul & her predecessor both listed as 63rd lieutenant governor. GoodDay (talk) 17:11, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- GoodDay, fine to remove numbers, but Hochul is not in the same position as a governor-elect. She did not win an election to be governor, she is counting on the guy ahead of her resigning. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:45, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- No overall big difference. We can always delete, should Cuomo change his mind, between now & August 24. GoodDay (talk) 17:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

- PS - If you were to open an RFC on this matter, for clarification on how to handle infoboxes of would-be-successors, in future government official resignations? I wouldn't object. Indeed, I would likely accept a compromise of (for example at Hochul) hiding 57th Governor of New York in the infobox, until she actually takes office. A hiding precedent established for future same situations. GoodDay (talk) 17:54, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- I just replied on Hochul's talk page, no need to duplicate. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:42, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Hunter Biden Redaction
A recent edit made to Hunter Bidan was reverted by you. There is no issue there, you then however removed the reversion from the records despite the fact that the policy did not apply to the edit.
.Blatant violations of the copyright policy that can be redacted without removing attribution to non-infringing contributors. If redacting a revision would remove any contributor's attribution, this criterion cannot be used. Best practices for copyrighted text removal can be found at WP:Copyright problems and should take precedence over this criterion. Grossly insulting, degrading, or offensive material that has little to no encyclopedic or project value, or violates our biographies of living people policy. This includes slurs, smears, and grossly offensive material of little or no encyclopedic value, but not mere factual statements, and not "ordinary" incivility, personal attacks or conduct accusations. When pages with grossly improper titles are in question, the page names may also be removed from the page creation, move, and delete logs. Purely disruptive material that is of little or no relevance or merit to the project. This includes allegations, harassment, grossly inappropriate threats or attacks, browser-crashing or malicious HTML or CSS, shock pages, phishing pages, known virus proliferating pages, and links to web pages that disparage or threaten some person or entity and serve no other valid purpose, links to any of these, but not mere spam links. Oversightable information – see separate section below for criteria. Valid deletion under deletion policy, executed using RevisionDelete. With the exception of history merges and fixing cut-and-paste moves, if selective deletion is required, RevisionDelete is usually preferable (see "RevisionDelete compared to traditional selective deletion," 1), and should be used instead of the old method of "delete and then partial undelete". It is important that the underlying reason for deletion be made clear in the log summary. Non-contentious housekeeping including correction of clear and obvious unintended mistakes in previous redactions, changes to redaction based upon communal discussion and clear consensus, adding information to the delete logs, and converting traditional selective deleted edits to RevisionDelete. (The action must not be likely to be contentious or controversial; consult if needed) AC. Deletion mandated by a decision of the Arbitration Committee. At times the Arbitration Committee may determine that a logged item was sufficiently improper that the record should be formally deleted in the public log. The deletion reason should clearly link to the decision. Deletions under this criterion are considered to be Arbitration Enforcement matters and should not be overturned improperly; they may however be appealed.
The edit in question did not apply to the information hidden can you explain why you did this? TheFinalMigration (talk) 00:13, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheFinalMigration, what edit are you referring to? If you mean [4] this edit from July 10, then it was a BLP violation just as I tagged it. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:22, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
That is the edit I am referring to. I am objecting to the characterisation of it as a BLP violatin.TheFinalMigration (talk) 00:47, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheFinalMigration, well, it was a BLP violation. I invite you to ask other admins to review it and see what they think. Since it's removed from the edit history, you cannot see the edit in question. So how are you objecting to the characterization? – Muboshgu (talk) 00:54, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
It was information on Mr Biden's relationship with Hallie Biden and his child-support issues I know this because I saw the edit before it was removed from the edit history. this is commonplace information, factually correct and not defamatory to Mr Biden. Thank you for your suggestion to ask other admins to review it, I may do so. Thanks TheFinalMigration (talk) 01:49, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheFinalMigration, that was not the content of the July 10 edit. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:59, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheFinalMigration, you mean this edit from May 2020. That edit did discuss the paternity suit. But that wasn't the BLP violation. There was a statement after that about his source of income which was a BLP violation. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:08, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Oh darn, really sorry to waste your time, that is a perfectly good reason apologies.TheFinalMigration (talk) 19:53, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheFinalMigration, not a problem! I am accountable for my actions, and if I ever act badly I should be called out on it. Glad that clarified the reason for the deletion for you. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:07, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
No Vandalism or Disruptive Editing
As this discussion does not pertain directly to me or my behavior, but to article content, I am moving this thread to Talk:Bill Cosby sexual assault cases#"Without evidence" for community input. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:15, 11 August 2021 (UTC) |
Hello Muboshgu
Actually the discussion does concern your behavior as you jumped on a fellow good faith editor with accusations of vandalism and disruptive editing and threats of being banned without even addressing the merits of the RS or the suggestions for the edit. Since then you have engaged in an intelligent discussion which is appreciated but please don’t say this had nothing to do with your behavior as the very title of the discussion makes clear. Cheers 24.113.155.134 (talk) 17:33, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- I reverted a POV edit and used a standard warning template. There was nothing incorrect in my behavior based on how we do things here. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:58, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello Muboshgu
No you reverted a good faith edit with zero discussion and then jumped to accusations of vandalism and disruptive editing. Don’t wrap yourself in the mantle how an imperial ‘we’ , your behavior is easily interpreted as bullying a fellow good faith editor. Next time please engage in the intelligent discussion you are obviously capable of before resorting to threats and labeling fellow editors vandals when they are not. Cheers 24.113.155.134 (talk) 03:16, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- I don't see how adding "without evidence" to an article about the claims made against somebody can be perceived as a "good faith" edit. It was an attempt to obscure the allegations. I did not "bully" by any definition of WP:BULLY. Pointing out that disruptive editing leads to blocks is not a threat, it's a promise. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:01, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello Muboshgu
That you can not see a good faith edit and without any effort whatsoever at discussion with an editor you leap to a personal judgment followed directly by accusations of vandalism and disruptive editing and banning is the very definition of being a bully. In the future engage in discussion first rather than threats. Cheers 24.113.155.134 (talk) 22:12, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Corn
So the fun part is that my daughter now has a boyfriend and he's on the baseball team. He is HERE IN MY HOUSE right now, but doesn't want to sit down to watch this game. How un-American is that!!! So, was KC actually there? Did he do a speech or something? We've been watching him in that show, where he's a rancher. That's not a bad show, and it's better for the liver than The Ranch, which can bring anyone to drink. The other fun part is that our associate provost is the other person I know who likes baseball, and I'm having a meeting with him tomorrow, so I'll tell him I watched the game and he'll love me more. Drmies (talk) 00:10, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

This edit
Hey Muboshgu, mind explaining this edit? Couldn’t comprehend the edit summary, sorry. starship.paint (exalt) 06:35, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Starship.paint, I was thinking that "has been criticized" is ;lazy, passive writing that is not descriptive. I thought I had decided against saving that edit. Edit summary must've gotten cut off by me hitting enter instead of shift – Muboshgu (talk) 14:18, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- I see. How would you improve my lazy, passive, not descriptive enough writing then (for that sentence, or any others)? More detailed source if needed. starship.paint (exalt) 14:21, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Starship.paint, that source is much better than the BBC source, which is vague in the "backlash" part. He's been criticized for the refugee evacuations, and not knowing the Taliban would run through the country so quickly. How's this? – Muboshgu (talk) 15:16, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- I'm thinking the focus is more on
the manner of the withdrawal, with allegations of poor planning for the evacuation of Americans and Afghan allies
- at least according to NYT. Is that alright with you? starship.paint (exalt) 01:44, 18 August 2021 (UTC)- Starship.paint, sounds great. I'm sorry for calling your edit "lazy". I did not mean offense. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:40, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Joey Gallo
I saw you moved Joey Gallo (baseball) to Joey Gallo a while ago, but it would appear the talk page is still at Talk:Joey Gallo (baseball). I would try and fix this myself, but I don't know what the page currently at Talk:Joey Gallo was meant for. Any idea? Nohomersryan (talk) 00:54, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
- Nohomersryan, I did not notice that, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Back in the early days of Wikipedia, it appears that there were two articles for Joe Gallo: one there and one at Joey Gallo. They were merged into the Joe Gallo page in 2005 and my move of Joey Gallo deleted those few edits. That talk page edit is related to the gangster. It won't be missed. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:02, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
