Hi Jo-Jo. I thought you'd like to know about c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:'Bridge' by Kenneth Noland, 1964..jpg because it's related to the close of Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 July 27#File:'Bridge' by Kenneth Noland, 1964..jpg, and the local file has also been tagged for speedy deletion as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:24, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- The CSD tagger is jumping the gun IMO, CSD tags are for clear cut cases and a PD-simple question is far from being one. The problem with these images is that "selection and arrangement" copyright only applies starting from a certain complexity, and it's not usually clear cut when that complexity is reached. In theory a court would have final say, in practice we have to rely on the list of images on commons:COM:TOO#USA which either a court or the US Copyright Office deemed uncopyrightable. Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 22 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The 2018 Community Wishlist Survey begins on 29 October. The survey decides what the Community Tech team will work on. You can post proposals from 29 October to 11 November. You can vote on proposals from 16 November to 30 November.
- Legacy JavaScript global variables have been deprecated for seven years. They will soon be removed from all wikis. Gadgets and scripts that use them will stop working. You can test your community's gadgets on "group0" wikis. For example Test Wikipedia or mediawiki.org. The legacy JavaScript global variables are already disabled there. You can read the migration guide to fix old scripts. [1]

DYK for Alexa Bank
On 21 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alexa Bank, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Alexa Bank is probably a drowned atoll? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alexa Bank. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alexa Bank), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Can you please tell me why you declined speedy deletion when it is a pdf. It meets WP:CSD#F10. On top of that, it is orphaned. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:15, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Because F10 is not about PDF files, it is about
files that are neither image, sound, nor video files; are not used in any article; and have no foreseeable placement in an article.
and that file is an image. A few sentences farther isnor is an extension alone enough reason to delete; this criterion is based on file content
so by definition that PDF is not eligible. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:32, 22 August 2018 (UTC)- That pdf was not being used in any articles and it was orphaned. That file being a pdf was not the reason for deletion. The file is also orphaned and is not being used in any articles and has no foreseeable use. There is a template on that very image that says that it is a non image format and that
If the contents are unencyclopedic or a copyright violation, please consider tagging it for deletion as a useless image using {{db-f10}}.
It this case, the content was unencyclopedic and I couldn't find any foreseeable use for that file. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:40, 22 August 2018 (UTC)- A demographic image is not "unencyclopedic" and I can certainly imagine a legit use of the file in Mioče, Bijelo Polje. The criteria for speedy deletion are intentionally very narrow and to me that request seems quite a stretch. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Not sure
If you meant to post this struck through: [2]. FWIW, I agree re: the conflicts with other wikis, even though I don’t necessarily think activity there should be taken into account if we find it disruptive here. Just a simplification and application of common sense would avoid stuff like people on nl.wiki trying to get a steward blocked because his username is in Arabic script... TonyBallioni (talk) 20:42, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- I don't think that common sense is as common as some people believe. Since we live in a Brave SUL World now it makes relatively little sense to me for every project to go special snowflake and having their own policy despite being no longer in charge of user names. Regarding labeling a valid page vandalism
Hi, Baydardi (G5, G3) was deleted by you recently. Let us get this straight, i dont know if this page was created by blocked user but an article with notability like this [20], [21], [22], [23] should not be deleted and and as far as of article, that article was created months ago, was never vandalism and there were major expansions by others including me. I added Plot in that drama article and you can check that in history too. A request to kindly undelete it, it has wrongly been labeled as vandalism and we hope to right out wrong on wikipedia. 203.101.166.194 (talk) 13:04, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
- Greetings. The "G3" text was just an error in the deletion summary; it was a fairly clear cut example of a page created by and edited solely by a block-evading sockpuppet and thus eligible for G5. Moreover it looks like that sockpuppeteer has a habit of making non-nnotable articles with poor sources and original research, so I am not inclined to restore it. You probably ought to write a draft from scratch. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:04, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

In relation to split-media stuff
This had been split previously but needs to be cleaned up File:Types.jpg, If you would be able to do this, then both categories will temporarily be empty and there can be a discussion about how to handle 'image-clash' situations moving forward. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:02, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

- I think so yes. In fact, I'll do so now. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 12:36, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

- There'll be a lot of slightly different images where one version is simply a quality improvement over the other. So a lot of false positives. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:07, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I see Tisquesusa has chipped in; if you still need comments when he's done, drop me a note. (Duplicating from your phone talk page in case you don't see that ping.) Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:07, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- Mike Christie Thanks anyway. I note that Tony1 has had some critique of the prose. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:43, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Undeletion request
Hi! Can you please undelete File:NGS Honorable Mention Award to THFFI.jpg? We've received an OTRS permission for it. Thank you! Ruthven (msg) 13:52, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Done, added the "no permission" tag mostly as a placeholder.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:00, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you! --Ruthven (msg) 16:54, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Ruthven: As the creator of the depicted work, the National Genealogical Society is the copright holder, not the recipient; therefore, the permission is not sufficient. — JJMC89 (T·C) 05:23, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
- I got confused with all those societies. I write them back. Thank you. --Ruthven (msg) 05:44, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Salisbury North Football Club
Hey, just noticed that on a recently closed FFD you deleted the wrong file. On the Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 September 16#Logos by Speedy2169 FFD File:Salisbury North FC guernsey.jpg was meant to be deleted and File:Salisbury North FC logo.jpg was meant to be converted to non-free logo. Salavat (talk) 09:09, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Whoops. Rectified that. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:00, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
