DYK hooks

Hi, I wonder if you notice that your last group of hooks are somewhat repetitious?

... that a volcano in Death Valley formed only about 2,100 years ago? (now in Prep 1)
... that the Salton Buttes (pictured) in Southern California are lava domes which formed less than 2,300 years ago?
... that the Cima volcanic field (pictured), important in soil sciences, was last active about 15,000 years ago?
I'm mentioning it here first rather than on the template pages to get your feedback. The second two nominations have nice images, but I don't think we should promote the same type of hook to the lead slot again and again. Yoninah (talk) 19:31, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
I did actually notice. I think perhaps spreading them out over time may make sense, and both the Cima and Salton nominations have proposed hooks that aren't about the recency of volcanic activity. The irritating thing is that while these volcanoes are not very well known despite Southern California's sizeable population, there is often not much interesting to say about them. Tyler Morley

Last year, you deleted Tyler Morley after @Yosemiter: nominated the page for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tyler Morley. At the time, Morley's career did not pass WP:NHOCKEY. However, now Morley has played in the Liiga and therefore passes WP:NHOCKEY ("Played one or more games in the National Hockey League, Czech Extraliga, Liiga, Kontinental Hockey League or the Swedish Hockey League, a top level Canadian amateur league prior to 1909, the Soviet Championship League, the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League or the World Hockey Association"). Recent changes

Ordinary pages can no longer be loaded as javascript. You could do this using ?action=raw&ctype=text/javascript in the URL. Only fully protected pages in the MediaWiki: namespace or user javascript subpages can be loaded as javascript now. This is for better security. [2][3]

Problems

New and updated translations from translatewiki.net will not reach the wikis for a while. You can still translate messages on translatewiki.net. The Wikimedia wikis will be updated with the new translations later. This is because of work on the translation system. [4][5]

The Education Program extension was removed from all Wikimedia projects. You can use the Programs and Events Dashboard or the Fountain instead. [6]

Problems

There was a problem when you copied and pasted from a table with the visual editor. It could add href where it shouldn't be. This has now been fixed. [7]

Nuevo Mundo volcano

Sure, Viscous dacitic lava flows emerged along a north–south fault forming coulees that overlay moraines in the NE and developed minor ash and block flows to the east. Problems

Some pages, edits and users disappeared for a short while after the server switch. Missing content and users was fixed within a day. Some preferences and other things might take a few more days to fix. [8]
Wikis are updated with new and updated translations from translatewiki.net again. This will happen once a week. The developers are working on fixing the problem so we can have translation updates more often again. [9]

Changes later this week

When you create an abuse filter that prevents edits you can now write a specific error message for it. Before this all abuse filters that prevented edits had the same error message. [10]

Normally I'd say so, but BLPREQUESTDELETE (the subject was requesting the article's removal) and the fact it's just one source (per WP:GNG There is no fixed number of sources required since sources vary in quality and depth of coverage, but multiple sources are generally expected. emphasis mine) are non-negligible counterarguments. archive.org says it is unavailable, right now. But there is something odd about the URL you offered https://web.archive.org/web/20071123211946/http://www.desmondcole.to:80/bio.htm. The first eight digits in a webarchive url contain the year, month, day that particular archive was stored. I looked at the snapshot at the deletionpedia. It certainly hadn't stopped being worked on in 2007.

The webarchive content is now available, and I used the non-WMF wiki wikialpha to get a diff comparing the material from https://web.archive.org/web/20071123211946/http://www.desmondcole.to:80/bio.htm with the material from http://deletionpedia.org/en/Desmond_Cole.

If you look at the diff the individual paragraphs from the two different sites not only talk about completely different things, I don't see even a single sentence from 2007 cut and paste into the 2017 article.

Perhaps the very first version of the deleted version started with a copy from Cole's personal web-page?

But, when copyrighted material is accidentally, or on purpose, inserted into article space, we don't generally take steps to hide the copyright material from those looking at prior revisions. Generally, we just revert the revision(s) which added copyright material, or replace it with new content that is not a copyright violation. Is it your opinion that the presence of one or more revisions that you think contain copyrighted material justify not restoring revisions that don't contain copyrighted material?

I can't remember ever seeing an administrator hiding revisions that have been reverted, merely because they contained material that violated copyright.

So, could you please graft the deleted revisions? Talk page too, if there was one.

OK, I wasn't clear enough. The text of the archived versions is identical to that of the deleted revisions, which are almost identical to each other. While the archive post-dates the deleted revisions the latter existed for no more than 7 minutes and the lack of earlier archived versions does not mean that the text didn't exist before on the desmondcole website. Thus the most likely explanation is that someone copypasted from the website into Wikipedia and only made very slight changes to the text, and there is no indication that the website has a free copyright license. Thus the deleted revisions are most likely a copyright violations and I am not going to restore them, nevermind the poor quality of the text. I think your conclusion that there was ever a copyright problem was flawed. I didn't try to explain your conclusion, other than to suggest it was an instance of normal human fallibility. Last year, you deleted Adam Tambellini after the page was nominated the page for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adam Tambellini. At the time, Tambellini did not meet WP:NHOCKEY, but he has since played over 200 games in the American Hockey League and therefore now passes WP:NHOCKEY. Can you restore the page? The 2006 wikitext editor is no longer available. It will be removed from Special:Preferences. It has not been the standard editor for a long time. It was replaced by the 2010 wikitext editor. [14][15]
