Semi-protected teahouse

[edit]

Hello ! I'm contacting you because you did recently changed protection setting of the "teahouse".

I'd like to know if you have the possibility to protect this page for longer than some hours.
For me , the vandal is probably an isolated person. I think the vandal is maybe using bots that haven't an advanced level of disruption.

Therefore , I think it could be sufficient to semi-protect the page longer than some hours.
I'm not an administrator like you because I'm only an auto-confirmed user.

I think the vandal is particulary motivated if he's not using bots.
I think a debate have to be organised about semi-protect the teahouse permanently or longer than some hours. Anatole-berthe (talk) 09:46, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is already a discission on this topic elsewhere. Do not fracture the discussion by posting in multiple other places. — JJMC89 18:37, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Allowing JJMC89 bot III to handle templates in category names

[edit]

Hi JJMJC89! Hope all is well. I was wondering if JJMC89 bot III could be programmed to handle templates in category calls? As an example, it would recognize on Category:1806 murders by continent is equivalent to , and then change that to when moving Category:murder in 1806 to Category:1806 murders. And while I am here, thank you – sincerely – for the other template-related update to the bot! Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:01, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I wish people wouldn't use templates like that. It interferes with any tool used to update categories.  Done for recategorization in the category namespace. — JJMC89 21:35, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was fast! I agree it is less than ideal, but that ship has sailed. Thank you so much :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 21:49, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Protection On Wikipedia:Teahouse

[edit]

Editors on Wikipedia:Teahouse appear to have reached a consensus on removing the protection on this page to allow its full functionality. Nixovel (talk) 04:47, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I find that assertion dubious. Regardless, my protection has expired. — JJMC89 18:37, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Improper deletion of a previously-deleted category

[edit]

Nominated category in Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 January 25#Category:Nintendo Switch 2. This was a valid G4 speedy deletion, but it should have been tagged as such by a human. Apparently, it was deleted 3 times by the bot. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:52, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is working as intended. It performs actions as long as it is instructed to do so on CFDW. The instruction is (still) on CFDW, so the category gets emptied and deleted. — JJMC89 18:37, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect category merges

[edit]

Why does JJMC89 bot III frequently place a category inside itself? One recent example is this edit, which added Category:Wars between the United States and Native Americans to itself, presumably copied from Category:American Indian Wars which was being merged, but the bot ignored all of the other categories which had been on Category:American Indian Wars, some (or all) of which were a lot more suitable. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:50, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How frequently? I don't recall this issue being raised before. The example looks like GIGO due to the circular categorization mentioned in the CFD. — JJMC89 07:52, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I find them from Wikipedia:Database reports/Self-categorized categories, which is updated every seven days. Of the 13 cats in the latest (28 January) report, four are expected to be there; two were due to inexperience by category creators; but the following seven were due to edits by JJMC89 bot III:
I'd say this quantity is about typical. I don't know what the algorithm for category merges is, but there's clearly something lacking if the merged-to cat ends up inside itself. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:33, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Those are all from circular categorizations, which are mentioned in the respective CFDs. The algorithm is just replacing the original category with the merge target. — JJMC89 19:22, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
