Hi,
I noticed from my watchlist that you deleted Talk:Enlightenment in Western secular tradition after the AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Enlightenment in Western secular tradition but that the article itself still exists. I can't see any deletion review pages under "What links here" so I was wondering if that was a mistake. --DanielRigal (talk) 10:08, 10 June 2018 (UTC)
- Seems like the script broke. I've deleted it manually now. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:13, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- In the Wikipedia app for Android or iOS users can create reading lists. The reading lists can be seen on different devices if you are logged in to your account. There is now a browser extension so you can add pages to your reading list from a web browser. At the moment it works with Firefox and Chrome. [1]
- There is a new version of Pywikibot. Pywikibot is a tool to automate tasks on MediaWiki wikis. [2]
Problems
- The MonoBook skin was changed to make it work better for mobile users. This caused some problems. The change was rolled back to fix them. The new version is now back on the wikis. MonoBook users can opt out from the new responsive design. [3]
Changes later this week
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. For most wikis this will happen on 18 June. For the rest it will happen on 25 June. [4][5]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 June. It will be on all wikis from 14 June (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the Readers Web team IRC office hour. There you can discuss tools to contribute on the mobile web for the existing MediaWiki skins. The meeting will be on 18 June at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 12 June at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.

Dave Pszenyczny
I read that Dave Pszenyczny was named the head coach of the new Quad City Southern Professional Hockey League team. This Wikipedia article was previously deleted in 2017 but since there is more coverage, thought it should be reopened with the new information. Thank youSyracusestorm (talk) 23:39, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- Well, does that team meet one of the inclusion criteria of WP:NHOCKEY? I am a little unclear on this. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 07:12, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- I can answer that (I still check many of Syracusestorm edits and watch all SPHL pages). The SPHL is a couple of levels of down from presumed notability in NHOCKEY. Now that Pszenyczny has been named a coach (which is viewed in NHOCKEY as just another contract signing), he has generated one more event of general routine coverage, moving from about 250 G-News hits to 274 last I checked of equivalent coverage equating to "Today Pszenyczny signed with {insert local team here}"). Still fails NHOCKEY, but maybe moved from fails GNG to borderline GNG pass. (Although, in the hockey project, they tend to lean towards delete with borderline subjects as opposed to having tons of sub-stubs). Hope that helps. Yosemiter (talk) 18:58, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Syntax highlighting has been a beta feature on Wikimedia wikis with text written from left to right. It is now a normal feature. It is based on CodeMirror. [6]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 19 June at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes
- Some old web browsers will not be able to read the Wikimedia wikis. This is because they use an insecure way to connect to them. This means that we get less security for everyone else too. This affects about 0.08% of all traffic to the Wikimedia wikis. This affects for example those who read Wikipedia on a PlayStation 3. [7][8]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. Because there is no new MediaWiki version this week it will happen on 25 June for most wikis. For the rest it will happen in early July. [9][10]
- All wikis that have not already done so will switch to use the Remex parsing library on 5 July. This is to replace Tidy. You can help fix remaining errors. [11]

Deletion of article Sable Winters
Why was this page deleted without Talk or notification in November of 2017? It was shocking to see the eradication and disappearance of years of presence and reference of this article on singer/songwriter, recording artist, two-time Grammy Board of Governors nominee Sable Winters. We have created and put lots of time and years into updating this article. The deletion of the article has effectively defamed a respected artist who has earned recognition in her field and continues to contribute to the evolution and advocacy of recording artists in the music industry. A deeper question is what qualifications do you possess that designates as expert in the field of music and entertainment industry? --Betty4 (talk) 22:41, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Please use care in your efforts. The best practice in editing is to use the "Talk" feature first to allow for any corrections or updates. It is not customary to simply delete an article for lack of additional references, etc. Research revealed there is a pattern of deleting articles that ultimately defame as reported here Weighed in Wikipedia’s balances and found wanting and In Challenging Wikipedia‘s Masked Mob, It’s Not Just Intelligent Design Proponents and Wikipedia Shreds the Truth and Call it the “Mystery of the Missing Memo”--Betty4 (talk) 23:41, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sable Winters, which is where the deletion was decided on. This isn't something I decided on unilaterally, other people agreed to it beforehand. Wikipedia has articles only on topics that are commented upon by reliable independent sources, and there was a prominent notification on the page that it was up for deletion. your opinion please...
You closed Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ed_Brown_(boxer) as delete. I see four people voiced delete opinions, and no one voiced a keep.
Yesterday I took a look at the version of the article in draft space. It seemed to me that what those arguing for delete were overlooking was the symbolic role Brown assumed, following his death.
Did Brown measure up to our inclusion standards, while alive? No. No way. But the reporting on his death went beyond the facts. Reliable sources used his death as an example of the excesses of American gun violence. American contributors may not recognize it, but American gun violence is shocking to the rest of the world.
Our inclusion policies explicitly say that a decision not to cover an individual in a standalone article does not mean they should not be covered at all. Rather, they say that coverage may belong in related articles.
In my opinion, when an individual is related to more than one existing article, that is an argument for a standalone article, because we shouldn't have a wikilink in one of the article related to them pointing to a subsection of another article related to them.
What do you think? Geo Swan (talk) 15:35, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- I can't find anything, sorry. Maybe it's the overly generic name. I'd probably try to write a new draft. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:31, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Non-free road signs used in list article
Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus. I saw that you closed Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 June 14#Non-free road signs used in list article as "Remove from list articles". Technically speaking, the files' non-free uses in only one list article (List of British Columbia provincial highways) were being discussed; so, I'm assuming that's what you meant. The files are not showing up as currently being used in any other list articles; maybe they were being used somewhere else, but have been since removed. Anyway, would you mind removing the files from that one list article and then removing the corresponding rationales from the files' pages? If anyone other than the closing admin does those things, the edits might just be reverted. That particular FFD began in January and has been relisted multiple times. Not everyone involved at the beginning may still have it on their watchlist and see your close, but they probably are still watching the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:26, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Greetings. I've yanked the files involved. I admit that these discussions with lengthy posts are hard to process. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 12:37, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that. Would you also mind removing the corresponding non-free use rationales for that list article from the files' pages? They were added only after the files were removed from the article for WP:NFCC#10c reasons (see User talk:Fhsig13#Non-free image use), and leaving them might mistakenly lead others to think that the non-free use in that article is OK since {{Oldffdfull}} templates are added to file talk pages unlike {{Non-free reviewed}} templates which are added to file pages. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:51, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Huh. There is something about your and my post that is stopping it from showing up. Anyway, done. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:56, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Your edit removing the files was reverted. @Fhsig13: seems to feel your removal of the files was done in error and posted this at Talk:List of British Columbia provincial highways#Discussion at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 January 18#Non-free road signs used in list article. I've advised Fhsig13 to discuss any concerns he may have about the close with you here. The "Please see" link was to the original discussion, which was subsequently relisted, so it might be mistakenly assumed that the original discussion was not closed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:31, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi again Jo-Jo Eumerus. I see that you've also closed Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 June 17#File:Otto Dix Sy von Harden.jpg. Would you mind removing the files from those articles where non-free use is not NFCCP-compliant? FWIW, I'm not trying to be a nag about this kind of thing, but quite a number of FFDs were started for various non-free images of artwork like the Dix painting, and some of these discussions have been a bit contentious (see WT:WPVA#Under attack and Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RRArchive370#User:Coldcreation reported by User:Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (Result: Page protected) and User talk:NeilN#Guernica for just some examples). My concern is that if anyone other than the closing admin removes the files from articles and their corresponding rationales from file pages, edit warring might possibly break out again. At least if you as the closing admin do so, you can add a link to the FFD so that they know who to discuss things with if they disagree with your close. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:50, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
- I got them. Honestly, I think that someone should look for a freely licensed or WP:NFCC#8-compliant replacement image on each of these uses. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:08, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jo-Jo. Maybe you still have this on your watch, but I pinged you instead. Fhsig13 re-added all of the files discussed in that FFD back to the article despite the attempts to explain things to him on the article's talk page. These edits were subsequently reverted, but I'm concern about the possibility of edit warring. FWIW, the reason given by Fhsig do not address the reasons why the files were removed from that article and don't show any understanding of the NFCCP or WP:OTHERIMAGE
I'm beginning to wonder whether this is a case of WP:CIR, WP:IDHT or a combination of both with this editor. I'm not basing this only on the edits related to these files, but also on other discussions the editor has been involved in both here and on Commons. The editor seems to feel his preferred version of articles should be the default version until a consensus establishes that it isn't instead of trying to establish a consensus that it is. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:08, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- Seems like they have gone to WP:ANI, with predictable outcome. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 07:32, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes and in all honestly that was unfortunate. It's never a good feeling to see someone get indef'd, even when it might be necessary. The thing is that other editors were reverting the re-adding of the those files and also warning Fshig13 about edit warring over them, yet for some reason he/she somehow assumed it must of been me. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:15, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Giuseppina Projetto
About a year ago,you closed a deletion proposal on the strength of 3 votes received in a week, and deleted the Giuseppina Projetto article making it a redirect to the list of italian supercentenarians. In the year between that deletion and her death, she became significantly more notable...becoming first the oldest citizen of Italy, then oldest resident of Italy as well, and at last oldest documented person in Europe and second oldest in the world. The link to her article (being a redirect) has just been pulled from her Deaths in 2018 article and if it stays a redirect for a month will result in her deletion from the death archive entirely. Recent changes
- WebM video files have smaller file size but still be of the same quality. Creating WebM files will take longer time. [17]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. This was supposed to already have happened but was delayed. For most wikis this will happen on 9 July. For the rest it will happen on 16 July. [18]
- All wikis now use the Remex parsing library instead of Tidy. This could cause errors. You can help fix the errors. [19]
Problems
- When you rolled back an edit it could get both the
Rollback
andUndo
tags. This has been fixed. [20] - Rollbacks from autopatrolled users were not marked as patrolled. This has been fixed. [21]
Changes later this week
- When you edit a link in the visual editor there will be two separate buttons to change which page the link goes to (target) or its text (label). [22][23]
- On the mobile version you can find a link to an editor's contributions from their user page. Now this will work even if they haven't created a user page. [24]
- When you edit a discussion on the mobile version you sometimes get your signature automatically added. This will now not happen if you have already added a signature manually. This is to avoid double signatures. [25]
- Structured discussions toolbars will have more style options. [26]
- When you look at Wikimedia code in Gerrit there will be a new interface. It is on by default for new users. This is also true for developers. This is to make it easier to understand what is happening. [27]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 July. It will be on all wikis from 12 July (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 10 July at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 11 July at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Today all administrators can edit CSS and JavaScript for the entire wiki. There will be a new user group for editing CSS and JavaScript. Administrators will no longer automatically be able to do this. This is because it is a security risk when all administrator accounts can edit JavaScript even if they never plan to or do not know how it works. You can read more. [28]
- Page previews will be on by default for new accounts. [29]
