Crackdown GA

Just a note that I've addressed the points raised by your review. --MASEM 04:47, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

As a followup to the GA, how do you think it is ready for an FA? Don't need a full PR, just a thumbs up or down how close it is. --MASEM 21:59, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Thumbs...very close to up. Just the usual...remember to copyedit, etc., but I'm not seeing anything major missing. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:52, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Everest Catholic High School

Err ... you are aware that consensus was plainly for Merge in that discussion (7-3, by my count), and that non-admin closures can only reflect unambiguous Keeps? There's nothing unambiguous about a result proposed by a minority. Would you care to undo this, or would you prefer Wikipedia:Deletion review?  RGTraynor  12:47, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

(Link for reference) Please read the closing comments; you're welcome to propose a merger on the talk page. The suggested target was to a list of schools, and this one was on the list...hence the merge was already "done". There were no arguments for deletion, so yes, it was a unanimous keep. Feel free to discuss a merge on the talk page if you wish, or feel free to take it to DRV if you believe this decision should be overturned in some way, though I can't see how a merge could take place at the moment (and there is no other decision proposed that I can see). And yes, I am aware of policy and process relating to non admin closures. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 12:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
In which case you're aware that non-admin closures cannot be judgment calls of any sort, which you've made here.  RGTraynor  13:02, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Please re-read WP:DPR#NAC, nothing about judgement is mentioned. Consensus is mentioned. I evaluated that and closed accordingly. Again, if you believe I have closed incorrectly, take it to DRV, and propose a more suitable merge target, or explain how the proposed one is suitable. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 13:04, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
(Off to sleep now, feel free to do whatever you feel is right—I trust your judgement. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 13:15, 1 May 2008 (UTC))

EarthBound - GA failed

Hello DM, just letting you know I've decided to fail EarthBound. It's not something I enjoyed doing, there's really not a lot left to do. But, since Nojr must be busy IRL, it seems pointless to leave it there and keep checking every day. Anyone can look at the remaining minor issues, fix and renominate for a (hopefully) quick GAN. Would you mind taking a look at the article's talk page and seeing whether I've made any errors? Someoneanother 18:32, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's never pleasant, but it's part of the "job", I guess. Everything on the talk page looks OK. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 00:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Just for the record, per Balloonman's talk page, DHMO's two admin coaches have a tentative August date set for nomination, so you might want to wait a bit or at least check with his coaches. Tan | 39 16:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

What they said. :D dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 02:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, this is a case where we have to wait, despite having a great candidate. He ran 4 times last year and his last run failed because he ran too often. Thus, we are primarily waiting and watching... making sure H20 doesn't make any major blunders... and then yelling at him when he does ;-) Balloonman (talk) 03:35, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Hiya, sorry - this is a bit spammy. You recently commented at my talk page regarding my proposal for a mentoring process that takes us away from "admin coaching" and moves towards a process to provide a support system to help editors who wish it become effective, high quality administrators, and not an administrator for the sake of it. Would like your opinion on GA review for White Mountain art

Hi there. I'm new to GA review, but I guess I know how to pick 'em. For my 5th review I chose White Mountain art. You may have seen the comments on the GAN talk page. The review has been rather confusing. I wrote a review, but neglected to check to see that it was still nominated. Although I found what I considered to be multiple issues with MOS, OR and POV, it had been passed by another editor, User:Jack Bethune. User:Malleus Fatuarum delisted it and I posted my comments on the talk page and put the article on hold. Jack Bethune, in turn, took my suggestions and recommended, disagreed with, or advised the principal author to disregard my comments. The principal author, User:JohnJHenderson is now understandably confused. So I'm asking for experienced GA reviewers to look at the article and the talk page and offer some kind of consensus as to what he should do to bring it to GA. I appreciate anything you can do. Lady Aleena's future

Dihydrogen Monoxide...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 09:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Request for assistance

Hello there. At the moment, I am working on the Unreal Tournament article (want to get it to GA, then FA). So far, I have added a "Reception" section, and a new System Requirements table. Bits of the new re-written article are lingering in my sandbox at User:Wackymacs/Sandbox2- None of the new Gameplay section has been implemented yet. My goal is to get rid of the weapons/game types/special features lists, and then convert those to prose. I would most appreciate it if you could collaborate with me on this. Thanks! — Wackymacs (talk) 16:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I have never played UT, so I wouldn't feel comfortable working on content addition on the article. If you would like me to copyedit when you're done, I'll be happy to...just leave me a note. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 22:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Uploading to commons

I have been thinking about this a little, but not to make things easier for others. I was slightly frustrated that because someone copied my images to the commons (something I am fine with, of course, because I license them as public domain) that my original upload to wikipedia was then deleted. Essentially it is insignificant, but now the record of my contributions to wikipedia has been reduced through no action of mine.

At the moment I am not interested in contributing to other wikimedia foundation projects. I just want to build a good encyclopedia. I feel that it is the foundations responsibility to coordinate information sharing between projects and based on this principle it is someone else's concern. Does that make sense or is using the commons so simple that I really should upload to it, especially since I agree with its aims of freely sharing media? - Shiftchange (talk) 10:28, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

RFA

I think it was really wrong to cast that past account stuff at my RFA. Best, NonvocalScream (talk) 22:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Are you implying I've lied about your past? dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 22:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
I've not attempted to use any history to my credit except the fact that I've no block log, and no sanctions. You attempt to cast doubt on me using what you believe may be the past history. I think that is unfair. NonvocalScream (talk) 22:29, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
(ec with Iridescent, this is what I originally typed.) I've agreed with you that you have a clean block log, so I am using it in your favour just as you are. I have not mentioned sanctions as I can't recall any, but at a glance I think you are correct that there were none. As for your past account, I have not made anything public, but those that (like me) are aware of its past name will agree that the circumstances around that account are valid topics for discussion, hence I will (without identifying the account) allude to them. And I am not opposing, so I fail to see how this is unfair. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 22:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Since you'd already posted I do have a prior account which I no longer edit under, and it has never been blocked and is not/has not been under any sanction when you transcluded the RFA, you can hardly attack H2O for bringing it up. Do you really think Arbs don't leak? I could probably hop over to one of the BADSITES right now if I wanted to find out who you used to be.iridescent 22:31, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
I ask that no more attempts be made to identify, or identify with the prior account for concern. And I have faith in the people in positions of trust like the arbitrators, that they do not leak. I'm not attacking, I'm discussing. Regards, NonvocalScream (talk) 22:33, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
(post ec comments) Iridescent; I didn't get it via an ArbCom link, I got it via a "badsite". I am not attempting to identify your account, NonvocalScream; I have made this very clear. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 22:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

It probably shouldn't mean a lot; you can't go through life trying to please everyone. But for what it is worth I would support you if you went to AfDRfA again. I'm not looking overly deeply, but at a glance, you're doing some good work around ANI etc. Some nice DR skills are showing—for instance, I agree with your comments here and in closing the ANI section...prevented a bit of drama through that. The anti-vandal work generally looks good. I agree, though, with the comment at your ER; this will only serve to fan flames...even if there's context, we can always express ourselves in a better way. So just watch the temper, and keep it up... dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 02:44, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, my temper has always been a bit on the "quick" side, both online and in RL. But, I can usually back down and realize that I'm wrong. Sometimes, as I've noted in an expanded answer in my ER, I need to be trout-slapped to get me to stop being so stubborn and/or bull-headed, though. LOL --InDeBiz1 (talk) 04:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Daddy Cool DYK

First up, thanks for the Barnstar - its much appreciated.

Secondly:

I have no idea how to nom Daddy Cool for DYK, I would be honoured if you could assist here. Probably a fact about "Eagle Rock" would be good e.g. . . .Australian 1970s band Daddy Cool's debut single, "Eagle Rock" remained at #1 on the National Singles Chart for a (then) record ten weeks. It was replaced by the song for which they were named, "Daddy Cool" performed in Chipmunks style by Drummond (aka Mississippi later Little River Band)...

If length permits one could include that the original 1957 version of "Daddy Cool" was by US doo-wop group The Rays.

I believe but can't prove, verify or ref it that this would be the only time in music history where a #1 song by a band is replaced by a tribute song titled with that band's name.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:27, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

I had a go at self-noming with:

I wasn't sure whether to put it at top of noms list for 9 May or at bottom: there seems to be no distinct order, there was no entry for 10 May. Even though I started "improving" Daddy Cool on 7 May I opted for 9 May when it was first 5 times or more than when I got there. It's now about 6 times that size.

BTW I'm going to rate Daddy Cool at B class now.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:08, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Original nom at DYK was too long, I've edited it and Art LaPella (talk) states its acceptable in length. Other editors will review it for verifiability and if accepted it should be on DYK. Thanks for the idea.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

It's been recommended that I get the opinion of a non-StarCraft player on this article, and since you previously said you know absolutely nothing about it, you're a prime candidate :). Would you mind giving the gameplay section a look over for me? Its a bit on the short side, but as its an expansion pack there's not much to say on it. Is what's there sufficient? Do you have any pointers for expansion? I'd also appreciate it if you could just read through the synopsis section and tell me if it mostly makes sense as someone who has not played the game. OK I got it now - having manually tagged x 000 oz cats - when i started over a year ago - the template preferred the NA - and youll find em everywhere (the buggers) - but when one of the template whizzes did the class=cat (which should now be the oz project standard) - there is no need to put the importance=NA = cos if you look at the class cat category discussions pages - there is no sign of importance - I knew I was seeing something wrong when you went of on that gigg burst - however you may well have some weird and wonderful reason why you did it that way - but sure hope it dosnt screw up in the template area - but from my experience there is no need - cheers SatuSuro 06:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, although I think I'm a better content creator than a content reviewer. I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support in both of my requests, and thank you for particular brand of ever-so-slightly irreverent humor that helps remind us that wikipedia supposed be be a labor of fun and love. -- Avi (talk) 16:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Singapore Airlines request for formal mediation

Hi, as the informal mediation in relation to the various issues regarding the Singapore Airlines article was not successful, I have now instigated a request for formal mediation on these issues at MedCom at this link. As you have been involved in editing this article in direct relation to the various disputed issues and/or have been active in discussion regarding these issues on WP:AIRLINES, previous dispute resolution attempts, or on the talk pages, if you believe that you are involved, then please take a look at the MedCom request, and add yourself and any issues as you see fit. Thanks --Россавиа Диалог 18:31, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the heads up, I will take a look and add some comments as appropriate. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

FAC declarations

DM, I have just had to make two corrections on your FAC, and leave three talk page messages: very time consuming. Could you lend a hand and make sure reviewers and declarers are following WP:FAC instructions on your nominations, as that will save me time? Thanks, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, in future FACs I will keep an eye on this sort of thing and fix caps when appropriate. Thanks for your help, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks ! Besides getting reviewers "trained", I always worry that I'll miss something on FACs that get out of control. Some of those sig files take over the page and obscure everything else ! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

WBOSITG's RfA

My RfA

Hi DHMO; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 22:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for everything. :) It was quite a surprise to login one morning and find that I not only had one nom offer but three! Your trust is appreciated. And hey, they've taken the delete button away from the main page now so I can't do that much harm! :P Best, PeterSymonds | talk 22:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Bah, why bother with RfA if you can't delete the Main Page? :D Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Over at my sandbox...

...there's something I hope you might be able to take a look at. I'm preparing (actually have been for a while, it's stalled for now) a discography for Manu Chao, modeled after the Powderfinger one. However, because of the convoluted syntax for some wikitables, I have not been able to get it to display how I want it to. Would you mind taking a look here to see if you can find the broken code (specifically in the "Singles" section) as you have quite a bit more experience in this area than I do? --Kakofonous (talk) 23:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Checked out DYKs recently? I received the following notice on my talkpage:

Updated DYK query On 14 May, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Daddy Cool (band), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Since it was your idea to put one on there I think you should bask in the thanks I received. I notice they edited my suggested DYK but I can live with it. Once again thanks for the idea.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

My GA Reviewing

I have passed GA nominations with some sort of review or commentary. I am quite tired of being warned that I am doing the wrong thing (when it comes to GA Reviewing), etc and maybe I am. I am also conerned at the fact that beforehand I had never recieved any complaints about the previous articles I passed. And I noticed that it wasn't until the Friends Review that I began recieving these such messages. I know your trying to help, and I thank you for your efforts to help me understand exactly what I'm doing wrong. I am tired of recieving such comments (no offense to you). So I am asking you for advice. Do you think its time I quit GA Reviewing for good? Please reply at my talk page as soon as you can. JayJ47 (talk) 05:25, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Just letting you know I'm currently working on a re-write in my sandbox (still a lot of work to do on it)‎. I'm going to set it out with the first paragraph being about it's sales, the second about what critics said about it and the third about it's legacy today. But I currently can't find anything about it sales figures other than "sold around 6 million copies", so the first paragraph is only one line. Do you know of any sites that might help me here? GA Mentoring

H2O, I was thinking of asking you about GA mentoring, after the recent issues we've had with FACs. I'm not really into starting articles from scratch, but do really enjoy either cheanup work or collaborative work with others to hone an article to perfection. To help out with this, I was thinking of getting into GAN, peer review and possibly some FAC work more. It also means that I can review articles on the train during my commute home from work :).

If you'd be interested in helping put together a mentoring programme for me, I'd be interested. I'm glad to help out, and it's something that I'm interested in doing, when I get a chance. Many thanks, Gazimoff WriteRead 22:00, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd be delighted to. Not sure about a "program" as such, but what I generally do as part of WP:GAN/M is say "read WP:RGA and take a GAN and review it". Then I'll take a look over your shoulder and try and give you some advice/commentary. So go for it! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 02:39, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Portal Intros

At Portal:Chicago, User:Cirt and I have been debating about the main imagery. There seems to be a current trend toward having a dynamic set of rotating images. Although the majority of WP:FPOs promoted last month had this feature, no current WP:FPOCs use this feature. He is in favor of converting the Chicago Portal in this manner using Portal:Chicago/Intro/Image. I have been against such a trend. We have debated on the portal talk page and our detailed opinions are there. In short, he thinks the feature adds dynamic artistic flair. I think that although the dynamic feature is good for giving variety in other sections of the portal, it is against the encyclopedic intent of the Portal because it does not introduce the portal to everyone in with the best summary. Does FPOC have a policy or do you as a director have an opinion?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 18:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your note.
As an editor, my opinion is in favour of random images; see Portal:Music of Australia, which I worked on and has rotation in place.
As a featured portal candidates director, I have no stance on this, and because there is no rule as to which method is preferred (as far as I am aware), I will regard opposition to an FPOC on the basis of the way in which images (or articles for that matter) are displayed as invalid.
In short, you are free to do what you wish, and this should not be held against you or your portal at FPOC. I hope this helps.

Madonna GA

Would you mind taking a look at the article on singer madonna. It is currently a GA article but im quite sure it no longer meets that standard. On a quick scan, the lead is poor, there are a number of unreliable sources, a number of unformatted sources and the article is too long. Its unnessarly long, its 105,000 bytes while the Michael Jackson article is 92,000 (a great accomplishment considering his complex public life). Admittedly its not fair to compare the two articles that way but i think you will see that the madonna article no longer meets the criteria. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers. I have also left this message to Geometry Guy. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 02:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, we are trying to get this article/list in good enough shape to have it nominated as 'GL' status but since this is unknown territory for us would appreciate it if you could undertake a bit of a peer review of the article.... Dan arndt (talk) 01:01, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

This has been asked here before...there isn't actually a GL stauts. It's all the way to FL. That said, I think you could get there

My fault it should read 'FL' status - in fact I've bitten the bullet and put forward the nomination - now will have to see what comments are recieved.Dan arndt (talk) 05:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Good luck, I'll leave some comments, though it's been a while since I was around FLC. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:30, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Some of the comments are a little frustrating - particularly wiki-linking the dates as we were told earlier that the dates were over-wikilinked by the same editor (also what's the international date format - you mean it isn't month, date, year?).... Any idea what we need to put in the external links - are they links to the Gurus' website etc? if so can easily copy the same from the article on the Gurus... Am not certain what is mean't by not all citations give full attribution - I guess I'm missing something... I would have thought citiation #17 was self explanatory as that's where we referenced how the albums charted on the American charts.... Thanks BTW for the corrections/adjustments that you've made so far - really appreciate the help. Dan arndt (talk) 05:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll take a look again..not sure the difference between wlinking dates and international format. :S I'll throw in an ELs section too, and check cites again... dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:GAN

If you'll look here: Wikipedia:GAN#Video_games, I'm currently reviewing a Final Fantasy article. However, I was the second reviewer since the first one requested for help. I left a message on his talk page; but he hasn't responded yet. The rules state quite clearly that it is the first reviewer's job to pass/fail - and the first reviewer doesn't seem to be active on Wikipedia at all.

María del Luján Telpuk

I was surprised to wake up and see this got promoted. I don't think I would have passed it myself based on breadth. However, it probably incorporates all of her early life that can be found over the internet in English. Here are some issues:

  1. I have never seen the GA icon at the top of a talk page. How did you do that?
  2. You did not add her at WP:GA (neither in the main body nor at the top in the most recent).
  3. The article that is most similar to her in the sense that it fully explains who a person is and what they are doing now the best that has failed for breadth is Thomas Wilcher, following closely on my list of pretty complete articles that might fail for breadth that are complete otherwise are Toni Preckwinkle, Steve Morrison (American football). Do you let breadth slide when a notable person does not seem to have the required info out in the public domain?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:53, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
P.S. I do not want to add the article at GA myself because it will look suspicious.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 01:16, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
1) I don't know...I didn't notice that either. I think one of the WikiProject banners does it; not sure... dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
2) I left a note on the GA talk page as I wasn't sure where to put it. See Wikipedia_talk:Good_articles#No_idea_where_to_add_this....
3) In this case, I couldn't really see how there could be any more information added to the article - bredth isn't about the number of words, it's about including all the relelvant information that has been published in reliable sources. In this case, it seemed to have been done. (Do you disagree? As the author, I expect you would know best if it was complete or not.)
I'll add the article to GA now. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure thing, thanks for the note. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Another GAN review

I've just completed the GAN review of Mario Kart Wii anf I'd be interested to know your thoughts on my responses. Anything I've missed out or that I'm going over the top on? Cheers, Gazimoff WriteRead 21:30, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

You look like a much better reviewer than me! ;) Some minor notes...I wouldn't say stuff like "...right from the start..." is a neutral issue (it's a prose issue; criteria one, so it should be mentioned), which is one of the reasons I don't judge issues directly to criteria (ie. I don't list out the critieria when reviewing). Otherwise, looks pretty good. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Can You Help Me

Hi! Can you help me with my article? Banya: The Explosive Delivery Man,it has been tagged for speedy deletion for being to short. So I wanted to extend the article, but as I have said before I have only read volume 1 and 2. Also my internet craps out on me now and then. So I need some help and I wanted to know if you could help me. If you do I will appreciate it very much. Also, where do I put the hang on template in my article?X27 (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)X27

I really no nothing about the subject so I'm not sure how I can help out, other than remind you that the best way to assert notability is by pointing to coverage in reliable sources. Is there anything specific (other than that) that I can do? dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I believe I have addressed your concerns re:GAN of Charles Frederick Horn. Regards, BuddingJournalist 10:22, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

FT/FA

Ashnard mentioned that you would be interested in helping promote the Smash series into FT? That would be really helpful, but I'm concerned about the original's GA demotion and Brawl's failed FAC. Perhaps this set of articles would be helpful?

Main Page - History of video game consoles (seventh generation)

Articles - Wii, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360

Anyways, if you need help, call me. I'm a little busy with 2008 Sichuan earthquake, but I can always spare some time for my original project.--haha169 (talk) 05:09, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Ironically, I delisted SSB from GA...I plan to work on it to get it up to standard (and the series article too) since these are probably my favourite games outside the Age of Empires series (my scope is limited!). And on that note I know very little about VG consoles, but I'm happy to help with copyediting or whatever if you'd like me to. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 12:36, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much. The B-class article is in serious need of lead expansion (though that isn't a big issue for GAN, but some details need to be filtered out, and I need some 3rd party help.--haha169 (talk) 23:50, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and if you'd like to peer review Brawl, I would love to have some comments on how else to improve the article to FA!--haha169 (talk) 03:06, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, will do! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 00:06, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

While we're on this topic, do you think I should re-nominate Brawl? It seemed really close last time - until Gimmebot archived it. --haha169 (talk) 22:59, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Not yet, I think...there's no harm, just wait for some more PR comments (I will try to get to that asap!). dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:21, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, erm, sorry, I closed it. I wasn't expecting anyone since the only reviewer was a bot who gave 100% inaccurate information. It told me to correct the usage of "didn't", and it didn't even appear in the article whatsoever. Maybe a comment on the talk page instead of PR... Sorry, once again.--haha169 (talk) 02:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Commented at PR! :) Your best bet is to harass WP:PRV...I find that helps! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 03:42, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, yes, but I closed it. Am I allowed to re-open it? Not sure... anyways, do you have a satisfactory image editor? The characters one is in dire need of a backdrop similar to Melee's character one. --haha169 (talk) 23:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

IMO it being "open" or "closed" doesn't really matter...just ask people to comment and act based on their comment. I'm horrible with image editing; I used to leach off lincalinca but I'm not sure if he's still active... I think we have an image help desk somewhere where you could ask for help. Sorry... :S dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 00:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
I've been looking for an image help desk, but couldn't find one. WP: VG isn't doing so much recently, so they aren't much help either. I'll see if lincalinca is still active. Thanks! --haha169 (talk) 01:10, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Could you please assess the GAN for History of video game consoles (seventh generation)? If it fails, oh well, but I really want to get my FT idea underway. Thanks for doing so if you have time. P.S.: Fun fact: There are no Wii related FAs except for the console's article and Wii Sports. --haha169 (talk) 05:36, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
That's because the Wii sucks? Hahaha...I kid. I'll try to look at the GAN soon. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
I hope not, or else all the info on that article (above) that I'm nominating for GA would be wrong! Apparently, its the best-selling console of the seventh gen., but there are simply no FA articles related to it... --haha169 (talk) 00:26, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Banya tag

Hi DM, I was wondering if it's okay to remove the existing tag on the article Banya: The Explosive Delivery Man now that it's been wikified adn expanded. Thanks, Julia Rossi (talk) 10:31, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I've had a look at your blog and the posts tagged "ageism" in particular. I suppose I've just displayed some, in a complimentary manner, I hope. It's your style of writing that misled me - for a sixteen year old, you've got a remarkably seasoned voice. I'm more than twice your age and I thought I was talking to an older man. I couldn't figure why you weren't an admin! Anyway, I got a bit jack of people telling me that I "should start a blog", so I did, just to spite the bastards. It's been soaking up my hobby-time at the expense of Wikipedia as I've been loading it with every gadget known to blogdom to see what traffic it will attract. I've got blogroll and I tacked yours on to keep an eye on it. ("Anastasia" experienced a major and distracting personal upheaval just as we got going, but says she hasn't abandoned me, so I'll keep the title until I hear otherwise.) Blpwatch template on Salman Khan

Hi - noticed that you put the blpwatch template on Salman Khan, but you didn't fill in the parameters the watch-bot needs. I've filled in the date, but could you please add the reason you want that page watched? This will let us know what to watch for. Thanks! - Jredmond (talk) 15:58, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, bummer, forgot the parameters. Sorry. I added it because of edits like this one which were fairly contentious. If they've stopped, which they seem to, the tag can be removed... dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:26, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Nemesis of Faith GA Nom

I've made the revisions you've suggested to The Nemesis of Faith. I changed "position" to "fellowship" but I'm afraid I can't be more specific than that. I've also added the references section and expanded the introduction; let me know if you think the intro needs more work. Thanks for your time. Dozenthey (talk) 18:37, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Cheers for that, not that it will make the slightest difference to his vandalbot... Do you think in all his "I'm enforcing policy" rants he's ever actually noticed that WP:NFURG isn't a policy?iridescent 01:21, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:NFCC is policy, NFURG is guideline. The two are often and easily confused. NFCC does ask for NFURGs (rationales) but it is nowhere near as specific as the guideline (or it wasn't when I skimmed it a minute ago).
A useful tip; get WP:FURME. I used it for that edit (changed the edit summary though; I'm curious to see if the one I used will get reverted), it makes things a lot easier.
And if it makes a tagging like it did on Image:Guns of the Timberlands.jpg again, block it. There's no possible way that could be considered a legit tagging.
dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I've installed FURME (which I freely admit I've never heard of) as it looks very useful for things like this. I don't have any objections to the bots mistagging things - they do sometimes get things wrong - but I thought that once BC was gone, we'd seen the last of obsessive bot-creators whining that that their bot was working fine and any problems are with everyone else. Hopefully I won't need to use it too much; while I do do a lot of image work on Commons, I try to stick with either public domain or self-created ones and stay away from Wikipedia images for precisely this reason (the permanent whining of apparently everyone involved with Wikipedia images). For some reason, everyone on Commons - even people who are rambling trolls here like Kelly & Root - are invariably polite and helpful. Which is not the case here.
Are you planning on RFA 6 at any point? Let me know and I'll be glad to write one of the noms this time round. Although looking at what happened to MF, I'm not sure what my nomination is worth right now.iridescent 01:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I like Commons. It's a nice place; I'm pretty active there too. But I also try and do what I can around here to prevent image deletion as much as possible... whenever I'm up for it, that is. I like to think that, slowly, things are looking up now that the foundation resolution date has passed. We'll see...
RfA 5, actually! :D A nom from you would be great, the issue is that you've (I swear) taken the nom offers in the double digits. Fine by me, but I'm sure someone would be displeased by that. Meh. Such is life.
dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 02:02, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Maybe you ought to get Root or Kelly to nominate you. No doubt it would be a surefire fail, but it would be worth it for great justice and epic lulz to see the wide variety of responses such controversial figures would draw.iridescent 02:29, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've dealt with all your GA recommendations except the picture which I'm awaiting a feedback from someone with a photo. I've also raised some other questions along the way. How we should refer the subject of the article surprisingly seems like a precedent making opportunity. Current naming conventions don't help at all. AWB job for Giggabot

Thanks for offering to do the AWB job using Giggabot. It is fairly simple, but would take the best part of an hour to do by hand. The task is as follows.

  1. Make a list of all pages in the Talk: namespace which transclude Template:GAN.
  2. For each such page, replace the transclusion of {{GAN|...}} with a transclusion of {{GA nominee|...}}. (Note the space, and the lower case n. Do not alter the subtopic or status parameters: just change the template name.)

Is that clear? Please ask if not: best to get it right the first time! Thanks again. Geometry guy 12:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I just missed you before nighttime Australia, so I ended up doing the AWB job myself. Thanks for the offer of help. AWB Custom modules (C# 2.0)

I had a quick question for you. Since you are a member of BAG I was wondering if you had any experience with C Sharp. I'm trying to get a custom module for AWB to run without hiccups. Source here: Assessment Code. In the line that reads

string template = "WPOHIO";

I can only get it to recognize templates without hyphens within the name. For instance, WPOHIO is recognized while OH-Project is not. Do you see anyway this can be modified to allow the use of hyphens? If you don't know C# sorry for assuming you did. Thanks for your time. §hep¡Talk to me! 18:58, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the question... unfortuneatley I don't know Csharp. :( Looking over your code though, I think what you're doing could be done with basic AWB find and replaces. You're checking the talk page for a class= and adding the WPOHIO banner with that class, right? There could be a few (not many) errors, but I've done something pretty simliar in the past. Give me a yell if you want me to dig up the xmls for that. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Seems you're not listed at User:Betacommand/Commons; that's going to be a problem (I'm not either). I generally just use this tool for transfers (but I'm outta here now so can't do it :(), or you can tag with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:27, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Quick note

By the way, it seems you're not an admin. Why not? Interested? dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:31, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I've been toying with the idea for some time now, but I didn't want to self-nom (for no particular reason, really). To be honest, I really only see myself using the mop and bucket for just a few things, such as some vandalism-handling, working with protected pages (especially templates, as that's my speciality along with citations), and a other bits here and there. I'd always be ready to help whomever asks for it, but I'm concerned I'd be more of a very low-key admin, and I'm not sure that is wanted by the community at this time. Still, as I mentioned, I've been thinking about it. Probably best to apply for editor review first, just to get some third-party options as to my ability 'round here. Huntster (t@c) 08:39, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I've heard and seen plenty of good things about/from you. You've been around for a while. You've made plenty of edits. You've improved articles, reverted vandalism, and helped people out in other areas. The recent trend at RfA has been for low key candidates... I nudged Kakofonous through most recently, and there have been a few others. Your kind of thing. You up for a nom? dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:43, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I think I might be. I do, however, hereby reserve the right to screw up. My biggest problem is that I doubt I can answer many of the questions that will be posed. I simply haven't stepped very far into the areas that are typically asked of. Huntster (t@c) 08:47, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
My motto is RfA additional questions are not for fishing. IMO the questions are silly and unnecessary. If you're unsure on one and do want to answer, just take it slow. Read the policy, ask around, whatever. There's no rush. Anyway, I'm writing a nom now. Feel free to reject it if you're not feeling up for it when it's done. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:51, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Much thanks. I was thinking of being more active at AfD so I want to ask you, is AbsolutePunk.net a notable site? There doesn't seem to be any third party sources (via Google) mentioning it and the case does seem similar to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MusicOMH.com. indopug (talk) 13:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I think musicOMH is notable... I'd like to one day recreate that article. There are sources out there. As for AbsolutePunk.net, I'm thinking the stuff noted here (especially the Blender stuff) is enough if you can find sources to back it up. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:58, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I've fixed the article according to your comments. For the "car fanatics" vs. "race fans", it seems what Famitsu and the other critics meant was that the game is aimed more at fans of purely realistic simulations rather than arcade-style, easy-to-pick racing games. Please comment when you have the time. Kariteh (talk) 12:57, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll take a look ASAP. Your explanation here makes sense (it should be in the article though!). dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:58, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

The editer has made a good attempt. However they have marked some of my comments as DONE when they still need improvement. I added comments saying that it wasnt sufficient. Ive left comments there, im considering going through it myself removing crappy sources/dead links and adding Fact tags. Also i might add fact tags to sections that need sourcing point blank. Leave your thoughts regarding this at the madonna review. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 19:22, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I would like to thank you for this page you have created. I was thinking of making one exactly like this until I found you had already made one, and you've said everything which needs to be said. Hopefully people will read this and start to respect Kurt's opinion. I find it disgusting that people don't respect what Kurt thinks, and even I myself don't agree with Kurt at times, but it's his opinion, and I, along with the rest of Wikipedia, should respect what he has to say, especially in a discussion. Thanks again, from myself and many others, I'm sure. Jack?! 14:37, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I would welcome comments to my thoughts (at User talk:Dihydrogen Monoxide/On Kurt and RfA) that insinuating that someone is power hungry is a prima facie personal attack. xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 15:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Apropos of nothing, but am I the only one who finds Kurt's self-nom to the WMF a touch - uh - ironic?iridescent 16:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, I think they're all self-noms, though, no? xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 16:52, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, correct, all self noms. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:20, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Without taking a side on the personal attack issue, I would point out that I don't condone or intend to defend straight out personal attacks. I would also point out that Kurt's comments could be read as personal attacks (I don't consider them to be so, but it's subjective), in the same sense, and again IMO, using his RfA from over a year ago as evidence against him (as done here) is equally a personal attack in that sense. My thoughts. By the way, I'm giggling to myself at the widespread linkage that the essay has received. Maybe I was right about RfA for once! :O (I doubt it :) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:20, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Einhänder GA review

I've now fixed the article and expanded the reception section according to your comments. Request for Peer Review help

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I have fixed everything you mentioned, with the exception of one or two, which needs a response. The article itself is really long because of the comparison tables, and I think adding more information would be useless and a waste of space. --haha169 (talk) 05:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Just noting that it has now been 10 days since I last posted my sourcing objections, and the nominator has yet to address a single issue. He's certainly been active on Wikipedia, so it doesn't look like time constraints is the issue here. In my opinion, the sourcing issues I raised would mar the article from meeting even GA standards, as a large chunk of the article's beginning (the part I checked in-depth) misrepresents the contents of the references. Hi, H20, good luck on your RfA, i voted to support you. A few weeks ago, you quick failed the above song i nominated for GA. Admittedly it was a little slack on depth. Since then ive expanded the lead and the "music video" section. Im not really sure what else to add, would you mind taking a look at it and giving a few suggestions before i renominate it. On the talk page you did link me to an article to find inspiration but that was an FA article. I have no intention of getting "Feedback" to FA - ever. RE: RfA

I'm not sure there's anything that would change my mind in particular, I mean, I've seen your edits and I've seen you around elsewhere and almost everything i've seen is good. However, if a point has been raised about racist comments (i'm not sure about how substantial these claims are, but I trust OrangeMarlin just as much as I trust your opinion) then I have to take it into account, IMHO. If you could point out which incidents he is referring to then I may be able to further make up my mind.

That said, the incidents were supposedly 'off-wiki' and I may switch to support for that reason. To be honest, as you may be able to tell, i'm really unsure, thus the neutrality. Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 09:49, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I believe he is referring to this blog post I made (as have some others in the RfA). I don't consider myself racist, and I disagree with his interpretation of the situation, but it's an opinion he's entitled to. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but from reading his oppose I take it this is why he's made it (as well as his other comments on the RfA page, obviously). dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 09:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
Where can I begin? From the earliest time I can remember, you've been helping me out and being the epitome of a "Wiki-Friend". I think the first time we met was on Talk:Saxophone, where I was having some trouble with my first GA review; you came in with the second opinion. Since then, you nominated me for adminship (when yours comes along, provided I'm not out of the country for the Northern Hemisphere summer, I'll co-nom), reviewed three/four of my articles at GAN, contributed at the GAN, PR, and FAC for Gilberto Gil, my first FA attempt (which sadly didn't pass, tear...), and answered enumerable questions plus did some not-so-serious things. You certainly deserve this. Kakofonous (talk) 22:24, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Adminship

I mean this in the best possible way - are you sure you want to be an admin? In my opinion you're an excellent contributor. Once adminship settles in much of your time may be diverted away from editing and towards blocking people and arguing with trolls, not fun at all. If you feel you've already given much/the majority of your expertise to wikipedia then this might be a natural evolution, but by the looks of it you still have plenty of input to give.

Also, (and i want to say this in the most unpatronising way), I notice from your user page that you're still quite young. Remember there is much to achieve in life outside of wikipedia. You may find adminship takes up even more of your time. Is this what you really want? And you seem like a pretty bright person: are you applying yourself as well to other things? For the record i'm also one of the younger wikipedians here.

Wikipedia is a noble project and i appreciate your contributions and enthusiasm. Maybe this is quite a heavy response to a nomination for admin: but make sure you make the most of yourself and the time you have.

Ps. It was neither my intention to patronise nor anger you, only to make you think a little. Cheers. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 15:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Sillyfolkboy, I do understand what you're saying. Something it (partially) comes down to is "are you sure you want to be an admin" - to be perfectly honest, I don't care. Worst comes to worse, I can keep contributing to the mainspace, but if I do pass, I can help out in other areas too. It's not a big deal, I just think I can help the project and the community a bit more. If they don't want me to help in that way, that's cool too. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 01:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Fair play. You know some people go troll hunting after adminship and it always ends in tears. I'm glad you're not one of them. Keep up the good mainspace contributions. Good luck with the RFA, though short of divine intervention i don't think luck will be a factor! Unofficial support: don't feel offended by my missing signature. Take care. Just a quick note to let you know that I elaborated a bit at your RfA on my comment there. I also wanted to say, given recent events, that I haven't had any on- or off-wiki contact with anyone regarding anything related to you or your RfA. It's sad to feel the need to say that. Canvassing people to oppose an RfA is just wrong, and I'm sorry that you're having to deal with it in yours. Hi. There has been some discussion of how to improve the FA-Team's functioning. It's be grand if you could comment on the new suggested structure, and perhaps also look at our current proposals. Thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 18:36, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I need to keep better tabs on that. Will look. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:03, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Getting people to notice

Hey there Water,

I did want to let you know that you are allowed to use {{Rfa-notice}} to announce your RfA to people... I mean, I'm starting to wonder if anybody knows that you are running.Balloonman (talk) 19:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

With 241+ comments, my guess is yes, people do know. Al Tally talk 19:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I thought the touch of sarcasm would be obvious... Balloonman (talk) 20:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Oops, you're right. I think you forgot to do this though. :) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 00:33, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Good afternoon, sir.

Well, it's the afternoon SOMEWHERE. (In Japan, I believe). Anyways, does my support of your RFA mean less to you because it was solely because I have a strong distaste for your opposition? Sincerely, MessedRocker (talk) 03:35, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I really don't know what to make of it! (And yes, it's afternoon in Aus.) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

Hello Alex! I supported you! I hope your RfA will pass.

Alex, I wanted to contact you about a month ago. I know about your contributions. I saw your name when I was new. And, about a month ago, I wanted to contact you. The only problem was...your user name is difficult to remember! "Dihydrogen Monoxide"! Now, I will remember it! Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 04:09, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

User:Giggy makes for a quick, easy, and oft-cited redirect. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

The newz

Word. I'll probably send it out tomorrow unless you get it done in like, the next five minutes. Need my beauty sleep so one day I can get a Nick Cave mo. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 11:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok, it's ready for when you wake up! WesleyDodds (talk) 12:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
